My childhood trauma didn't make me stronger. it made me a people pleaser. it made me forgive way too much. it made me not speak when i'm supposed to. it made me an extreme empath.

"I want to be 6 again, looking out the window and wishing for rain so I could miss school, sit on the kitchen floor, and eat whatever Mum cooks."

I find this morning that what I most vividly and longingly recall is the sight of my grandson and his little sunburnt sister returning to their kitchen door from an excursion, with trophies of the meadow clutched in their hands—she with a couple of violets, and smiling, he serious and holding dandelions, strangling them in a responsible grip. Children hold spring so tightly in their brown fists—just as grownups, who are less sure of it, hold it in their hearts.

"He knew from a childhood memory how strange and sad it is to see a familiar place after a long separation. Your heart is still bound to the place, but the unmoving objects have forgotten you and do not recognize you; it is as if they have been living an active and happy life without you, and you have been alone in your feeling -- and now here you are before them, an unknown and pitiful creature."
~ Andrey Platonov, "Soul," from Soul and Other Stories, transl. by Robert & Elizabeth Chandler, et al.

"I think I know what childhood's for. It's to give us a bank of happy memories against future suffering. So when sadness comes, at least you can remember what it was to be happy."

"Why did you do all this for me?" he asked. "I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you."
"You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "That in itself is a tremendous thing."

As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among the many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breathe beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unself- consciously to the soughing of the trees.
Valerie Andrews, in A Passion for this Earth

"Crow's Nest" by James Scruton
From cast-off plywood, two-by-fours, Scraps of any kind of lumber, Each summer we built rafts to float Like Huck and Jim on the river
But never got one there. We knew With every hammer stroke we'd keep The finished rafts in yard or field, Drifting as the grass around grew deep,
Shooting the rapids of August. We made them into play forts later, Into bridges over narrow creeks - As close as they would come to water.
In only one did we take off, The one we hoisted like an anchor Up a tree and made our crow's nest In the full sails and Jolly Roger
Of the leaves. Riding the swelled air, Lookouts for all we couldn't see Before, we were high and dry and still Not run aground on what would be.

Haven’t collabed with @renconner in a long while for a mini comic (minus our big one, Instinct). We were talking about one of Stan’s lowest moments involving being outside with that damn sign, so we decided to make a comic with Stan remembering it. I’ve also kinda of assumed Filbrick would lie to Ford about what’s going on with Stan (Stan probably did too to some extent).
