How do Neurodivergent Therapists Engage with Social Justice?  Anna Maria Joseph
Anna is a public mental health researcher and writer with OCD, based in Bangalore, India. As a researcher, she is engaged with projects studying the rehospitalisation of psychiatric patients, impact of arts based interventions for gender violence prevention, and suicide prevention among young people. Through her writing, she prioritises lived experience to discuss disability, queerness, and the climate crisis. Her work has been featured on spaces like Women Enabled International, Disability Debrief, Revival Disability India, and Gaysi Family. She was awarded the SCARF (Schizophrenia Research Foundation) Media for Mental Health Award in 2022.
Vocabularies of inclusion: How Autistic voices in India are reframing personhood. Shubha Ranganathan
Shubha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Liberal Arts, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. Her background is eclectic and interdisciplinary, having been trained in psychology but drawing on ethnographic approaches to questions around health, gender, and disability. Her research draws on a range of disciplines such as anthropology, gender studies, disability studies, and alternate paradigms within psychology such as critical and qualitative psychology. She has been engaged in qualitative explorations of local practices of healing among marginalized groups, as well as health and disability-related projects in India. Her work is framed by critical and social justice perspectives, focusing on lived experiences and the role of advocacy for social change. Posted @withregram • @thearticulateautistic Autistic Trauma: Hearing “You did that on purpose (and having no idea what they’re talking about). … “You did that on purpose!” This is one of the most triggering phrases for me to hear. As a child, it It made me freeze up instantly and my eyes go wide with terror. And the ironic thing about that reaction, which is completely trauma-based, is it looked like GUILT, which just confirmed the “validity” of the accusation for the other person. … When I didn’t freeze, I would respond with, “Did WHAT on purpose?” because I didn’t even know what they were referring to half the time—but it would only make them angrier. … And the real kicker is, I’ve been told my confused face looks like an angry scowl, so people didn’t read confusion on me, they read insolence. … If you’re neurotypical, and you have an autistic loved one, don’t start with an accusation, start with an observation. Tell them what you perceived first before asking if they did it on purpose. … Also, give context. Your autistic loved one may have very well done something on purpose but not what you think and not out of malice. Explain what it was that happened, how you interpreted what happened, and how you feel. … Remember, a neurotypical and an autistic person can be in the same room and have the same interaction and their individual brains will interpret the event in totally different ways. This is why you MUST start with telling the person what happened even if it JUST happened. … Pause. Breathe. Explain. Express. Ask. … Autistic folks, can you relate? … [ID: Mother and daughter having an intense conversation at a dining room table.] … #Autistic #Autism #AutismSpectrum #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticAdults #AskAnAutistic #AutisticAdvocacy #AutisticRights #RedInstead #Neurodivergent #Neurodiverse #Neurodiversity #Atypical #AutismMom #AutismDad #AutismParent #SpecialNeeds #Disability https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce1TyVcOqy0mhlUpCmV2XG8-izPCopp3JDmV9k0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My scanner is being weird so I had to take pics of the things I wanted to upload. Weh. IT'S AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH WOOP WOOP. SO here's one of my contributions. Ladybug and Chat Noir are both autistic (in fact I picture a LOT of Miraculous characters as autistic.) If you don't agree, I don't give a flying fuck. : ) Here they are saying 'AUTISTIC RIGHTS!' Because yeah, people tend to forget us a lot, ignore us a lot, and not give us any rights and treat us like shit. (Heck I feel like everywhere I post about this, people ignore it. :/) SO. Here you go. Enjoy. Any hate on ANY of my autism posts WILL be reported and blocked.

Note: All Disabled Need Support
I’m a verbal Autistic who is able to, somehow, get through the day without dying, yet I’m applying to get a nurse to help me with self-care, because I’m still disabled. The ADA empowers all disabled people to reasonable accommodations, and we need to respect and realize that when you’re disabled, it doesn’t matter if you’re white or nonwhite, gay, male or female, cis or trans, if you can speak verbally or speak through AAC, whether you can take care of yourself or not, all disabled people need some form of support. Rainman needed help with day-to-day activity despite being verbal, likable and exceptionally savant at card-playing. I’m not a savant, and as far as I know I’m also not Dustin Hoffman thank God, however, I still need help with daily life because society was designed by ableist, able-bodied, nonautistic people who arrogantly and without any medical knowledge or degree claim I’m faking my disability despite my professional diagnosis. For shame on people who do that, they don’t know me, they have no respect or any right to criticize me or my experiences. If you can get services through insurance, please get those services, get as many services as you need. For those who cannot afford services or professional diagnosis, contact the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) or Autism Society of America among other resources and hopefully get the support you need, like and reblog for more posts

#Repost @_janardu_ (@get_repost) ・・・ We have to say "Good bye" to functioning labels. They show a disorted image of autism and dehumanise us. Autism is not a one-demensional spectrum like the volume of your radio. Besides we are humans too, not androids which are rated by their imitating of neurotypical humans and their value for the capitalistic system. #actuallyautistic #boycottautismspeaks #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #redinstead #aurtivism #artivism #activism #aurtivist #artivist #activist #autisticrights #differentabled #autismspeaksdoesntspeakforme #anticure #differentnotless #autistic #autism #neurodivergent #proudtobeautistic #autisticfreedom #nocure #antieugenics #areyouinawareofmenow #loudhands #autisticandproud #nothingaboutuswithoutus #noaba #acceptancenotawareness
