"If you're a leftist and you're on here commenting on disabled leftists' posts about being excluded with responses like:
"Oh, of course we must fight ableism, but you can't expect the majority of people to do X/Y/Z to include just a small number of other people like you."
Then you really need to take a long look at yourself. Are you talking to other minorities like that? Why is it suddenly reasonable to support the 'comfort' of the majority over the wellbeing of others? Do you think that's radical? Why is it so obvious to you that we don't need to adapt to include some people?
I've been seeing this response especially often on requests to mask. You're a lazy comrade and it shows. You're abandoning your disabled peers. Do better."

How Hurtful Words in Politics Affect People with Disabilities
Recently, Donald Trump used insulting words about intelligence to attack political opponents. This kind of language can be harmful because it suggests that people with disabilities are less valuable. This article talks about why using words like "idiot" and "low IQ" is not just mean but also has a long history of causing harm. It's important for everyone, especially politicians, to understand the impact of their words and be more careful with their language. Read more about this important topic at News Arena India.

The thing I didn't understand about being disabled until I became disabled is how terrifying it is to know that when things get bad I am utterly reliant on other people. I almost felt ashamed for that fear, too, as if *I* am the reason I might have to worry about not having close community and loved ones someday.
But then I realized that it is absolutely batshit wild that the scariest part of having a poorly understood chronic neurological condition is not the pain, discomfort, etc -- but that I, a human being, the most social animal ever, might not have enough other humans around to help care for me. Or that I might not be able to *afford* to pay them to be. On a planet with 8 billion other people.
What a mockery of a society we have created.

This #WomensHistoryMonth we're celebrating the change-makers who push us forward.
Judy Heumann was an internationally recognized Disability Rights Activist, known as the “Mother of the Disability Rights Movement.” She's celebrated for her role in developing and passing some of the most important disability rights legislation in American history.
As a child Judy was denied the right to attend school — and later to become an educator — because of her wheelchair use. Both injustices galvanized her life-long commitment to the fight for equal rights for Americans with disabilities.
ID: A collage-style two slide carousel depicting Judy Heumann both as a young activist and in her more recent years, using a combination of color and black and white photographs. With text describing Judy's career (transcribed above).

Disability Rights
At school I was invisible, nobody saw me. I morphed into the background, I wasn’t popular. I was ignored throughout my school life. Although my school didn’t know I was disabled, they did know I struggled to make headway with my schoolwork. That should have rung alarm bells, but it didn’t, and I continued to mentally struggle.
Institutions
Children can be cruel. And while institutions are there to house groups, institutions only work when support mechanisms are in place and everyone works together, and for the greater good.
In school I was continually being picked, continually being harassed by teaching staff for not paying attention, when the reality was my mental disability stopped me from easily concentrating, answering questions and being able to join in conversations and lessons.
Discrimination
I felt stupid most of the time and I was being discriminated against. When I mentioned to my PE instructor, the High Jump wasn't a good fit for me, I was told there was no concession on opting out of the high jump, even though I’d mentioned a leg length shortening and a muscle tone issue. Discrimination is discrimination and I wasn’t being listened to.
Mental Health
Being born in the 60’s when mental health, emotional health and physical health all existed, they were a thing. But disability wasn't on people's radar. Fast forward to The Equality Act 2010 and UN Convention and disability and people’s perceptions on disability began to change. (Source: https://www.gov.uk)
All it would take is for people to start working together. No child or adult, no one with mental health or physical health issues should be discriminated against. It’s all in how you choose to see and deal with people with disabilities. Where the human condition is flawed, we can change, we just have to want to. We should want to do better for those who need us to.

New York City Americans With Disabilities Act Lawyer: Fighting Disability Discrimination for All New
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies, and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities. This includes discrimination in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment. Since its enactment in 1990, the ADA has played a crucial role in enabling millions of Americans living with disabilities to enter or remain in the workforce by removing physical barriers and instituting robust workplace protections.
Understanding ADA Compliance and Employer Obligations
Not all employers comply with the ADA as they should. Some may unintentionally misapply the law, while others deliberately avoid hiring or retaining employees with disabilities, masking their discriminatory intent. When such instances occur, the New York City ADA lawyers at Mansell Law step in to fight for the affected workers. Our attorneys ensure full enforcement of ADA protections, holding employers accountable for their actions. If you have experienced unlawful disability discrimination, contact Mansell Law for dedicated legal support.
Which Employees Are Covered Under the ADA?
The ADA applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments, as well as employment agencies and labor organizations. The law protects a “qualified individual with a disability,” defined as someone capable of performing the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. A disability under the ADA includes:
A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
A history or record of such an impairment.
Being regarded as or perceived as having such an impairment.
You don’t need to have a disability to be protected under ADA. Specific terms like “essential job functions,” “reasonable accommodation,” “substantially limits,” and “major life activities” have legal interpretations that our experienced ADA attorneys at Mansell Law can help you navigate.
What Types of Discrimination Are Prohibited?
The ADA comprehensively prohibits discrimination in many aspects of employment, including:
Application procedures
Hiring and firing
Advancement
Compensation
Job training
Other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment
Adverse or differential treatment based on an individual’s disability in any of these areas constitutes unlawful discrimination. Employers may also violate the ADA by:
Denying FMLA leave for a serious health condition that qualifies as a disability.
Refusing to provide reasonable accommodation.
Retaliating against individuals for exercising their ADA rights or filing complaints.
How to File an ADA Discrimination Claim
To sue your employer for ADA violations, you must first file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC may pursue the case or issue a “right to sue letter,” allowing you to file a lawsuit. Possible remedies include reinstatement with back pay, hiring, reasonable accommodation, cessation of discriminatory practices, and monetary damages for financial losses, mental anguish, and punitive damages. You may also file a complaint with the New York City Human Rights Commission or the New York Division of Human Rights.
At Mansell Law, our ADA attorneys will guide you through the complaint process and zealously represent your interests, whether before your employer, a government agency, or in court.
Stop Disability Discrimination in New York City
If you believe your ADA rights have been violated, call Mansell Law at 646-921-8900 for a free consultation. Our team of dedicated New York disability discrimination lawyers is ready to fight for your rights.

Denied access to bathrooms has been utilized throughout history to force BIPOC, women and other marginalized groups out of the public sphere. This is not about “protecting women”. This is about hate. This is about control. This is about upholding white cis heteronormativity.
