Carsie Blanton used this phrase in her recent newsletter, and I got her blessing to make art with it. I hope she approves. It'll probably end up on Threadless swag at the very least, if not as a sticker or a print.

Sometimes that's how you teach fuckers to have empathy.
We tell kids, "treat others how you want to be treated" but at a certain point in a person's life they just grow so apathetic and desensitized to the greater world outside themselves that the simple philosophy we teach literal children is forgotten, or at least, no longer actively practiced.
That's when you show them how they've been treating others, make them feel the things they inflict onto people thoughtlessly, because people tend to learn best the hard way, and we've got a tendency towards selfishness, so forcing someone to "walk a mile in another's shoes" is usually the best way to ensure any type of lasting impact.

The Mirror
Your face, it tells a story, Of where in life you’ve been,
Crows feet from smiling often, And scars that can’t be seen.
The good, the bad, the ugly, It’s all a part of you.
The sum of all those many parts, Is what makes you truly you.
A mirror shows the surface, Goes not beneath the skin, But still, when you look at yourself, You see what lies within.
You see your past: the good, the bad, All that, what brought you here. You see the child that’s still inside, You see them crystal clear.
But that view is one-of-a-kind, Merely reserved for you.
When others look you in the eyes, They look at you, not through.
Now, why am I telling you this, What value’s in what’s said?
Let’s change our view, Away from you, And look at me instead.
For when you look at anyone, You, too, just see what’s there.
You cannot know the battles fought, So treat others with care.
You cannot read from sight alone, What burdens someones head.
Our faces show just consequence, And not the path we've tread.
Your face it tells a story, And mine does, just as well.
And you know yours, And I know mine, If you ask, maybe I’ll tell.

The Power of Empathy in Building Connections
“Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.”  ~Alfred Adler Hey everyone! Let’s take a moment to appreciate the power of empathy. In a world that can often feel disconnected, empathy is our bridge to understanding and connection. It’s about seeing through someone else’s eyes, listening with their ears, and feeling with…

Lacking Empathy
Hello Readers sorry for being away from blogging since a long time as I was busy in somethings and some commitments hence could not do much.
The Border-Gavaskar trophy ended and again our Indian team bit the dust against Australia. This also drew the curtains on Indian Cricket Team for their chances to qualify in finals of World Test Championship.
This loss has raised a lot of issues be it some player's performances to some fitness issues also. Many of our players are now are being hammered by the fans all over the globe. Meme business as increased and no player is being spared. All are being targeted.
I personally have not seen all the matches and used to follow on cricbuzz and some other sources like whatsapp group where my friends were updating with scores and all developments. But in my free time when I scrolled on Facebook and was opened to see so many comments on different posts and the sort of comments that I was reading were just very disturbing and somehow disgusting.
The first thing that came in my mind that "Are We as Indians lacking empathy?" The Answer to this If I am to give i would surely say Yes, We Lack empathy specially regarding India's matches or performances. Be it any loss 1996- Exit from finals to 2007 ODI WC early stage exit by India or even talk about the current BGT trophy. We only support our team when results are in our favor and one bad day we tend to write our Indian Team off forever. We also cross our limits trolling them and writing something bad about them and sometime burning effigies(which has not happened now).
I have noticed that when other teams be it any team when they loose to anyone else are still welcomed warmly by their country. No cries, trolls, No stoning houses or burning effigies but have never seen our Nation behaving well when our team looses. Disappointment is but natural and I do not blame anyone but think of this "How Our team must be feeling when they loose and worse after loosing what they have to face in their own Nation"? Not only this some tend to become masters of the game and start giving out advises like this particular person is not fit, other one is not good in this format or its captain's mistake.Suddenly our mind becomes active.
All i have said previously through in my earlier Facebook posts or say in some other blogs that if you celebrate our team's success please be a little considerate and support our team in bad phases too. But I know that its going to fall on deaf ears but still i hope one day we as Indians can make a Difference when it comes to being supportive to our Indian team Not Only in cricket but any sport or event. No matter what A game is a game and one wins other looses so no point in making a big fuss about it and a bitter truth will also be that "Nobody likes to end up on loosing side".

This iis incredibly important but there's also more.
If you see someone as a monster all the things they do are their fault, we need to defeat them and things will go back to being good, that's not true you can never put the genie back in the bottle.
Things have gotten so bad because we took a child, put them in an incredibly traumatising situation and gave them all the power in the world.
If we are to grow and repair our societies after this mess is over, we need to recognise that no one should ever be in this situation. And that requires seeing more than a person, we need to see the system that put them there and change it, make it better.
I thought it was fairly normal to feel empathy for bad people.
I thought it was common, even.
But after my Elon/Grimes post... now I'm wondering if I was mistaken about that.
I wrote a post about Trump being traumatized after his assassination attempt and a post about his poor adaptation to aging. I expressed sympathy for him in both cases. But I still maintain my white hot hatred of him and wish for him to face consequences.
Elon was abused by his father. Some of the stories are incredibly tragic. Hearing those stories triggers an involuntary response in my emotional systems that I can't stop no matter how much I despise present-day Elon. I also wonder if that abuse never occurred maybe we wouldn't be dealing with this current clusterfuck.
I have never held so much anger towards a single person as I do my brother. But I also see him as a victim of abuse. I know he was once a really good person and he was slowly corrupted. I feel sorry for him. I mourn the amazing person he used to be. And I still love him.
But that doesn't make me any less angry.

When intelligence outpaces empathy, it leaves something important behind—the very humanity that connects us. You can be brilliant, but without kindness, it’s just empty arrogance.
Intelligence without compassion doesn’t elevate; it isolates. And in the end, who wants to be the smartest person in a room they’ve emptied themselves?

I don't know where this "if you don't feel love/empathy you're evil" idea comes from like if you can only be decent towards people if you love them/feel empathy towards them then I'm pretty sure I'm not the one mistreating more people of the two of us

no but imagine percy who inherited his mom's beachwave brown, shoulder length hair as a kid. and all of his classmates and teachers thinking he's a girl and referring to him as such. and he doesn't correct them because he thinks it means they find him pretty. and he likes feeling pretty like his mom. then gabe makes him cut his hair in the second grade. and finds he likes the short hair and feeling handsome too. but he also really misses feeling pretty sometimes. and it isn't until after gabe mysteriously dissapears that he grows it out again and reconciles switching between both.

really sick and tired of people saying “how can this be happening in our time??” “imagine screaming for help and no one listens” “why is no one doing anything??” “how could I be witnessing a genocide in 2024?” Black people are still going through ethnic cleansing today from colonialism of Africa to the trans atlantic slave trade to chattel slavery to Jim Crow to mass incarceration to BLM to Cop City. We have been begging and screaming and crying for help, for mercy, for people to wake up and pay attention and you guys have ignored us and continue to do so. If you are saying Free Palestine but you dgaf about BLM, you’re not speaking up about Cop Cities or you’re not educating yourself on DRC, Sudan, Haiti, Ethiopia, etc., you are and always have been apart of the problem. You have blatantly ignored Black bodies being murdered mercilessly in the streets, being robbed of clean water at Flint and Atlanta, our Black towns being bombed, gentrification of Black neighborhoods, our lack of reparations and so much more. I don’t want to hear anymore “how could they do this?? why does no one care??” because you guys didn’t care when it began, when it happened and as it’s happening right in front of you!! Where do you think Israel and most Western countries get their inspiration for colonialism and ethnic cleansing from?? Black people across the globe are still going through ethnic cleansing TODAY and have been since white colonialism touched Africa!! We have been on the front lines of most movements and you guys ignored us, called us violent, called us angry, called us ignorant. We’ve been saying we are not free until we are all free and everyone moved on with their lives and said “well this doesn’t affect me.” If you’re not going to check your anti-blackness at the door, be prepared for a failed revolution.
