I wanted to try something a little different and dip my toes back into #anime for a moment. When I saw the reference image (swipe to the last slide), I really wanted to try and replicate the soft gradation of color on her skin. Soooooo.. I ended up not liking this #painting as much as I hoped. I think the main issue is it isn't a close enough likeness to the reference image for me, and that started to bother me lol. Also, mistakes abound, but these #watercolorstudies are all learning experiences, right? Right. Somehow, it looks better in the photos than in real life (to me), but so be it! Of course, there are things I like about it too, haha. There are plenty of areas that could use more attention, but I'm legit ready to move on to another #study lol. Whoop! Here's the base #sketch for the next #watercolorstudy, as well as it transferred onto #watercolorpaper (sorry that the transfer is a little hard to see). I know some #watercolorists are able to just #draw directly onto the watercolor paper, but GIRL I do A LOT of revising, erasing, and restarting and I'm not trying to damage or waste this expensive #paper lol. SIDE NOTE, if you are a #portraitphotographer or if you know someone who does #portraitphotography (or if you just take bomb photos of your interesting #face lol) that wouldn't mind their pics being used as reference, please let me know! Another #watercolorstudy from last month (I have one more to post, then you'll be all caught up). This might be one of my least favorites of the bunch, mainly because I feel like the separation of skin and hair is too stark for my liking (as are some of the dark areas on the face), but at a certain point I decided to stop rather than continue to work it lol. The reference was in black and white with really nice shadows, so I was trying to #colorize it. I will say that I do like the #geometric quality of some of the areas, though. Been holding out on you guys.
