In the final version of the movie, Camilo whispered the secret with a pretty neutral expression on his face (at worst he’s a bit worried), just like how the other family members whispered to each other.
Yet in the storybook he has this big smile on his face, like he’s enjoying it or thinks it’s funny or something…
I heard that apperently during production Camilo was supposed to be “the mean cousin”? Which he isn’t in the finall product (he can be sneaky and a tease, but definitely not mean). But storybooks and merchandising are known to not always be up to date with changes made to the story and characters, so I wonder if that’s the reason.
It's Kind Of Hard Being An Autistic Comic Book Fan Sometimes
[NOTE: I wrote this awhile ago when I was severely depressed and don’t wanna rewrite the whole thing but I’ll be adding little updates in a few places. Also I wasn’t gonna post it originally because I thought it would come across wrong to other people but I changed my mind since it’s the end of Autism Acceptance Month and I don’t wanna keep sitting on this.]
In general it can be hard being a fan of a lot of pop culture when you’re autistic, well at least for me it is. I don’t know about how the rest of my fellow autistics feel though. I’m just speaking for myself here from a place of isolation and loneliness.
Obviously there’s not a lot of autistic main characters in films, video games, TV shows, books, or comic books. When it comes to side characters there’s still not that many. And when there are the story tends to revolve around the fact that the character is autistic which isn’t bad but it tends to set a precedent for other writers to limit autistic characters to “autistic plots”.
Then there’s the whole concept that autistic characters tend to only be children a lot which feeds into the misleading and damaging idea that autism only effects children… which doesn’t make sense because most children tend to grow up and become adults. I’ve tried searching for resources for autistic adults on the internet before and the only results that tend to pop up are stuff for parents with autistic children. It’s like society doesn’t believe autistic adults like me even exist.
Princess Lauren Art| Princess Lauren is an autistic princess| she’s caring, observant, short tempered, strong but reserved| Her special interest is in mostly reading| Her love Interest is Galvin, a farmer’s boy.
