I am so proud.
My mother, in her mid-50s, just came out as aromantic. She never knew there was a word for what she felt. She asked if this means she's "part of the LGBT now", and I got to happily inform her that there are more letters now, and Aces and Aros are absolutely a part of our community.
It's so important to remember that there are people in generations before us who still don't know themselves, and self-discovery is for any age. They should know they have a community. I am so proud of new, older queers!

The aspec community REALLY needs to add intersecting identities to these analysis' instead of making general statements. How helpful is 'ace women are seen as pure because everyone thinks all women are asexual' when we look at the sexualisation of Black women and the Jezebel, the idea Black girls are 'fast' and the general sexualisation of women of colour e.g. spicy latina trope? Are we factoring in how the desexualization of women of colour e.g. the Mammy, the 'submissive' East Asian women trope, the virginity myth isn't acceptance of female asexuality? Does 'ace men are expected to be more sexual' factor in the sexualisation of Black men and other men of colour e.g. 'savage' Arab trope and the antiblack trope that they're inherently predatory? Or the desexualisation of East Asian men? How easily can we define the ace men v ace women experience at all if trans and non-binary aces are missing from most ace representation despite facing the brunt of anti ace discrimination? If we're solely defining these experiences by cis aces? How easily can aroallos 'just have sex' when you factor in the demonisation of gay sex, HIV/AIDS crisis and seraphobia and how this affects gay, lesbian, bi and pan aros? How easily can alloaces 'just partner up' when you factor in the ban of gay marriage that is still in many countries across the globe and the historical policing of 'homosexual behaviours' and this impacts gay, lesbian, bi and pan aces? And this isn't even getting into disability, religion etc. yet. When there's SO many factors that play into how an individual participates in sex and romance, or if they're even allowed to participate at all, how much can we clearly cut the aspec experience into alloace v aroace v aroallo. Or sex favourable v sex indifferent v sex repulsed. There's A LOT we can learn from each other.

You know what I like so much about the aromantic community?
We have so many concepts that the average alloromantic person has never heard of. Concepts that make it so much easier to explain our experiences, desires and struggles to other people. They make it so much easier to exist as an aromantic person in this world. Of course, every aromantic person can decide whether they find these concepts helpful and applicable to their experiences. But I find it amazing how many cool concepts the aromantic community either came up with or took pre-existing concepts and made them our aromantic 101. I don't think the allos really get how being aromantic can fundamentally change your worldview. And to be honest, I think they're missing out because I think everyone would benefit from at least being familiar with those concepts.
Being aromantic is basically like this:

Aromantic shrimp colours are real.
Anyways, aromantic community, y'all mean a lot to me and I'm so happy I found y'all and now share your "secret" knowledge!

There was a time when I desperately wanted to be gay or bi or pan or something that I felt I could justify in any way with others. Something that wasn't as "strange" ad being aromantic.
Ofc I couldn't, but I wanted to and now that I'm able to be proud of myself I'm ashamed of it.
And I'm also sad because this says how deep the lack of aro representation and recognition is and how much we still suffer because of it.
WE ARE AS QUEER AS THEY ARE. (Now read it again but shouting ;-) )

So the state of Virginia has "Virginia is for Lovers" as it’s tourism tagline. A friend and I thought that editing the logo to be Aromantic would be Incredibly Funny and I'm happy to say we were right. So here's some Aromantic Virginian pride edits.
General Aro / Aromantic flags
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arospec / Arospectrum flag

Aroflux

Demiaro / Demiromantic

Greyaro / Greyromantic ( or Grayaro / Grayromantic )

Litharo / Lithromantic

and finally, a template for any flags I didn't include!

Free for anyone to use anywhere as always because this is just for fun; I don't need credit but I'd Love ( ha ) to see if anyone else makes anything with these so feel free to tag me if you do !!
( This is just a silly joke for a friend. I don't claim to own anything about this logo and if this already exists than I'm sorry, please link me to OP !! )
If you want the exact border outline to make flags with white stripes more visible, the line is just a 3px layer style stroke effect that's the same color as the letters. Be Free.

Am I the only one that likes being an aspec? I've seen number of people hating themselves since of that & I barely see anyone liking it.
Lacking attraction is great, y'all just haven't reconciled w it yet/pos

My First Experience with Major Aphobia
I've lived a pretty happy aroace life. With an exception or two, nearly everyone I've come out to has been kind and curious. I knew aphobia was a thing, of course, but I didn't know it personally.
Until two weeks ago.
I'm a fantasy author with two published books featuring aromantic and asexual teenage protagonists. I am so proud of my babies. They are everything my little aroace heart needed as a teenager.
I have an amazing publisher who is supportive of my characters' orientations. But we had an opportunity to team up with another publisher to create curriculum courses based on my first book, Legend of the Storm Sneezer, for schools. Everything was going swimmingly until I made a Pride post where I mentioned, as I had countless times before, that my main characters are aroace.
And this publisher dropped me like a hot potato.
I received an email terminating our contract. Their reason? Because my characters are aromantic and asexual. It was like a slap to the face. I couldn't believe it. I was heartbroken and angry and hurt. And it didn't end there. The publisher went on to make videos and interviews with conservative social media influencers to make fun of my queer identity and style, and even partook in a smear campaign where they stole my pictures and intellectual property and slandered me thoroughly in an article. It's honestly the worst thing that's happened to me in my career.
But guys, the backlash. The outpour of support for aroace folks. The people who took up arms and fought against aphobia, supporting me, my books, and our community's identities. It was so beautiful my group of aroace writer friends called it "Chickengate" -- the day we stood up to aphobia (the publisher's name has to do with chickens, FYI).
It was a hard blow, but I've come through this so much stronger. My community is stronger. My identity is stronger. My faith is stronger. So, when you face aphobia, remember Chickengate and be strong!
Also, if you want to REALLY stick it to the aphobes, you can check out my fantasy series The Stormwatch Diaries for SO MUCH aromantic and asexual rep. It's perfect for fans of Doctor Who and The Owl House.

"you ship sherlock holmes and john watson?" soooo close! their relationship is actually more complex than simple labels like "platonic" or "romantic," and to force one or the other on them fundamentally misunderstands the bond between them!! hope this helps! <3
