i think i need to stop being a player at ttrpg games and start being a DM

The fear of rejection and disapproval from past DMs makes me too nervous to play characters i want to play and show stories I want to show, because the threat of being seen as too cringy has loured over me since I was a teenager and kept me from persuing literally every good thing i have ever enjoyed

I think enough is enough

I want to be the DM that tells people *yes, and*. I want to skip the slog of having to prove you're worthy of being powerful. All my friends have earned that right by surviving to this point, frankly. I no longer believe that happiness must be earned or bargained for with years worth of time.

I want to run a high level, dragon centric campaign, where nothing is set in stone and no one is shamed for having a power fantasy come true. We all deserve to see level fucking twenty without waiting years just to prove that we have 'earned it'. Thats deranged nonsense.

I want my players to give me the most insane concepts and broken game mechanics and i will be so happy if they do because it proves they are thinking enough about my game that theyre not just rolling off their sheet because they expect combat to be mechanical and paint by numbers. My job isnt to prevent them from killing bosses in creative ways. Its to give them opportunities to use their concepts. To gestalt with each other, too.

I am just sick of anxiously playing by other peoples rules. Im neurodiverse and trans- i break several rules every day before I even get out of bed. Fuck the expectations. Fuck towing the line. Im gonna DM a fucking game in which there will be dragons and fuck the bioessentialism of chromatics being evil. Just Fuck it. What does it serve? Nothing and certainly not me.

And damn it, if you ask for a seat at my table and ask me "can i be a dragon?" I promise you, i will say "yes, and-" and you will not fucking believe the shit i will lay at your feet. You are gracing my headworld with an opportunity to flesh it out in ways I could never have imagined. The least I can do is let you shape it with me.

MXTX protagonists ranked by how bad their mommy/daddy issues are

Luo Binghe: absolutely nuclear level of mommy/daddy issues. this is the consequence of giving your protagonist two deadbeat dads and two dead moms, and then letting him project all those issues onto his overly indulgent teacher

Wei Wuxian: he could've had perfectly normal orphan levels of parent trauma, but what's that?? IT'S THE JIANG PARENTS WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!! the combo of fear and respect he had for Yu Ziyuan is already bad enough, but then there's also the feeling of responsibility for the Jiang siblings that they put on him, which then leads to, you know, all the Yunmeng sibling problems

Lan Wangji: this dude is so haunted by his father potentially kidnapping his mother and then locking her up and putting himself in seclusion, and this significantly shapes his relationship with Wei Wuxian. plus he took his mother's death really, really badly :(

Shen Qingqiu: he like never mentions his parents?? which is weird, but at least he's not haunted by it. however, he gets the special privilege of being the person exacerbating someone else's mommy/daddy issues. he brought this on himself. he doesn't get to walk out of a confession involving a metaphor where he'd be pregnant with his partner and act like that's normal

Xie Lian: he definitely has trauma surrounding his parents for sure, but they don't seem to have manifested as specifically mommy/daddy issues? it's just, you know. normal grief. honestly, there's so much shit going on with his trauma and baggage that he can't be defined by this one thing

Hua Cheng: does not seem to care about his parents?? at all???? he's presumably an orphan and they're probably the origin of his self worth issues, but like. in the grand scheme of things, they do not seem to be that big of a concern for him. who needs mommy issues when you have devotion to dianxia i guess

in danny's defense: the word "freak" is. a mini beserker button for him for.... obvious ghostly reasons, so like, even if its not directed at him, he still very much unappreciates Martinez's insults at Battinson. Danny may or may not be projecting.

he's not going to hurt the guy! not in any serious or permanently disfiguring way at least! But he is going to leave mean sticky notes on the square part of his spine that he can't reach, and stick salt in his 3AM Late Night Crime Scene Coffee, and kick the bottom of his heel while he's walking so he stumbles. And other petty, infuriating things that tally up and boil over, over time.

Twi just found out that in Lu he IS a type of Hero's shade for Wild

Spirit of older hero that comes and goes in wolf form yep sounds familiar

The main difference being that Hero's shade was there to train Twilight, whereas Wolfie was there to simply be there for Wild

Twilight is over here avoiding telling Time anything about Hero's Shade and then Wild comes up like "haha I totally met a dead version of you in wolf form that helped me"

I am once again knitting which means I'm back to the Nein rewatch and happened to be on Midnight Espionage, and truly INSANE episode. The egg dick, both break-ins, the Zauber Spire attack, and the first time a beacon is on screen in like four hours flat. Trent Ikithon is there. The episode ends with Liam and Marisha yelling, "TRUST THE PORN."
