Ya know, I can understand that some people who are disabled want to keep working. They don't want to apply for SSI or SSDI. And that's fine. More power to them.
What bothers me though is when they say things like "I don't want to live off the system" in a very derogatory manner.
Some of us can't work. And SSI and SSDI don't really give us enough to live on. So we need food stamps. Some of us rely on subsidized housing. We struggle to get through each month. And we don't need people being derogatory to us because of our disabilities. We don't need people acting like we're "less than" because of our disabilities. And we especially don't need this coming from other disabled people.

Foaming at the mouth and going feral waiting for Fig to open up more to her parents and friends 🤧 I rmr all through middle school and high school holding everything in and being unsure about myself and putting on a tough mask with walls so high because I wanted to hide and not exist and just.. 🤧 having friends that were patient and loving and understanding even if they didn’t know my whole deal was life changing. I just wanna wrap Fig up in a big hug and tell her that she doesn’t need to have it all figured out, but that she’s still wanted and appreciated for all the qualities and facets that she exudes regardless of if she can lay all those things out and understand them. Despite it all, who she is and who she will become: She is loved. She is wanted. She should exist.
#I’m getting emo about herrrrr#I spent sooo long with my walls up bc I thought the way I was wasn’t good enough#you don’t have to know who you are and a lot of people still don’t know well into their 20s/30s/40s#the people around you and that love you know#they know your heart and character what your interests are the foods you like etc#all of that stuff makes you who you are#you don’t have to have a string of buzzwords or your personality all layed out in a numbered list#and if you do that’s lovely too and being comfortable with that changing as you grow is beautiful as well#tw for mental health/personal stuff#growing up and sometimes falling into being s*ic*d*l really makes you feel like you have no reason existing puts you through#identity crises more often than not and getting older and still breathing and taking each day at a time helps you figure out parts of you#even if the big picture is fuzzy or incomplete you still have every right to be alive#to keep existing and learning about yourself#even when it’s hard#dimension 20#fhjy

Hey y'all! Weird question time again, this time for like a frame of reference. I know the recommended daily intake of sodium for adults (at least, what I was told growing up) is 2,000mg I know I was told* I personally should be having around 10,000mg, maybe more if I am doing anything that loses extra salt How much are people supposed to aim for when they are supposed to restrict sodium? Also, how much sodium do most people actually get on a daily basis, and do you notice if you have extra, like does it cause noticeable side effects? I have absolutely no idea how sodium goes for people without salt wasting syndrome. Normally I could use my family as a benchmark, but it seems likely there's a genetic component to this and one whole side of the family tends towards salt-cravings and/or Addison's disease (a different issue that also causes low sodium) and the other side of the family tends toward other health issues that require restricting sodium intake (I, clearly, do not take after that side of the family lol) *this number was decided upon and approve by my nephrologist, cardiologist, and internist. Probably don't be aiming for that number unless you've talked to at least one ologist about it to run some tests

Man. Goro being in strikers wouldve been soooo fucking good. Especially w the surprisingly good writing and plot??? You have to live w the consequences of your mistakes? You dont get to just Die and leave the mess you made behind? You have to confront the people youve hurt and accept that they may never forgive you? Idk if anyone else comes across this or maybe im being assmad about something that really isnt a pattern but does anyone else notice a lot of recipes that call themselves "healthy" actually mean "this meal is almost totally empty of calories nutrition and flavor"

I have been fascinated with @danbuettner ‘s work & study on the Blue Zones, also known as areas of the world of where the healthiest and longest living people (centenarians) reside. These people are the definition of longevity, so it’s worth studying their characteristics.
Where are the 5 Blue Zones?
🇺🇸Loma Linda, California (U.S.A.)
🇨🇷Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
🇮🇹Sardinia, Italy
🇬🇷Ikaria, Greece
🇯🇵Okinawa, Japan
Blue Zone characteristics:
• 90% - 100% of their diet consists of whole, plant-based foods high in fiber!
Fruits, vegetables, tubers, nuts, beans (daily), whole grains
NOTE: they retreat from dairy but will reach for goat & sheep milk products.
• Cruciferous veggies – broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower
• Cook & finish dishes with olive oil
• Supplement w/ fresh herbs & spices (w/ medicinal & healing properties) – rosemary, oregano, sage, mint, garlic, turmeric, mugwort
• Snack on nuts – almonds, pistachios, Brazil nuts, cashews, walnuts
• Whole grains – sourdough, 100% whole wheat, rye, barley
NOTE: sourdough is naturally lower in gluten, has gut-supportive bacteria, & high in fiber.
• Their diet is naturally low in sugar. (No more than 7 tsp/day).
• Drink mostly water & green tea. They also drink some coffee (antioxidants) & red wine (polyphenols) in moderation.
