Yaelokre, boundaries and superfans

I didn’t actually want to reactivate this account, but as I watched the whole Yaelokre thing unfold I just wanted to say my 2 cents

Stating that you don’t want people to make nsfw of your characters is a completely fair thing to say, and it sucks that people aren’t respecting your feelings

but ultimately you can’t control what people do with your own characters and how they will interpret your work, you can’t control thoughts, feelings, triggers and boundaries other than your own

which brings me to the next bit: boundaries. What are they? They’re something for you to set up and control. A very valid boundary is saying things like “I’m extremely uncomfortable with erotic works of my characters, please don’t send it to me”

But that is not what Keath (Yaelokre) has done

Yaelokre has asked their majorly underage fans to go out of their way to send and to report them “inappropriate, offensive material and or misinfo” about their work.

This is incredibly unprofessional and dangerous, as they’re sending minors into adult spaces to report nsfw and to play vigilante and go “pedo hunting”, as if this is a fun thing minors can do as a hobby.

Sure, the artist most likely didn’t intend this to happen, and they didn’t specifically say minors should report nsfw media, but the post was seen by more than 90.000 people, so of course minors will take it as a call to action to “hunt” for it, bringing themselves in danger.

What’s worse, not only is Yaelokre abusing copyright laws (even if they registered their characters for copyright, other people can still create fan works of their characters under “fair use”), they have been completely silent about their fans’ behavior, essentially greenlighting harassment, violent and graphic threats being sent to anyone who is or might be upsetting Kaeth

it’s really interesting, Yaelokre wants control over the fandom and people who make art, yet it is superfans who accuse people who made those (currently 6) erotic artworks and those who defend the right to make such art as unable to control themselves.

this begs the question, why isn’t the creator saying anything? Because they’re currently blocking everyone who even mentions those threats. This confirms Yaelokre is aware of what is happening, but they will not control their violent fan base because they’re helping them take control of their boundaries like “vigilantes”

And while these toxic superfans have only gone after the artworks of erotic nature which exist in the fandom, since the artist has stated that “misinfo and offensive material” also upsets them, it will only be a matter of time before even genuine, sfw only fans are going to feel the wrath of them eventually

Because as long as something exist that could make someone uncomfortable, it’s bad, which also raises the question why art is made at all then since any art can make someone uncomfortable

I would also like to mention that this is an incredibly toxic way of handling your own work. Original characters might be your own, but they are merely an extension of yourself and not you, nor your “children”. Yaelokre has implied that this mistreatment of their OCs is akin to actual child abuse. This will absolutely lead to people sending “offensive” art to child protection organizations too, hindering their job

And I completely understand how upsetting it is to see material you don’t like, many big and small artists have voiced their feelings about it, but this attempt to coercively control people who make art the or an artist doesn’t like will only lead to them crashing and burning out.

It is far easier to avoid nsfw, fanart/fanfics and pretend it doesn’t exist because you really can’t fight against it, once you make art for others, once your work is “famous” enough that it accumulates millions of subscribers and fans all over the world and go on tours, then it’s no longer your own little project

And if you can’t handle the responsibility of being tactful with your fandom (stop treating total strangers in the fandom like they’re your friends, they are NOT) and attempt to control them because your feelings were hurt, then maybe you should step back from social media, let someone else take care of it and focus on creating what you like away from all the triggering things that can upset you

and really though, was it really necessary to go nuclear over 6 pieces of erotic artwork?

needless to say however, please leave the artist alone. We can’t force them to see how damaging this behavior is to themselves and to the existence of (their) fandom as a whole, they’ll have to come to this realization themselves.

once you, as creator, attempt to sue someone for an idea, headcanons, theories or art you don’t like, then there will be no fandom left

I get second-hand embarrassment every time I see a toxic Marauders fan referring to Snape as "Snivellus." It's honestly laughable how much immaturity and pettiness that reveals about the person. You just know right away that if they're clinging to schoolyard insults for a fictional character, they won't be capable of engaging in a mature and thoughtful discussion.

Genuinely why do peopel feel the need to comment 'friends' and 'they're not a couple' on ship posts, like maybe not to you but this person clearly likes to see them that way, and (as long as they're ethical/legal ) then you can just ignore it. and, y'know, not feed the algorithm data saying 'i like this'. even better you can block the poster. remove it from your situation.

Like when people get into relationships knowing they're going to have problems with their partner's relationship with friends, or lifestyle, or political views, or different views on the roles of a relationship. just don't get into that relationship if its going to go south. just ignore/block the creator. not that hard. you just look like a crying child in the comments. (again if its like p*dophilic, inc**t, ab*sive etc. then its a different story but commenting 'friends' is stupid, especially given the situation you're commenting it in.) Have your own opinions and interact with shipping that you agree with, please and thank you.

Also to add, even if you, yourself are part of the shippers that recive these comments, don't then go and belittle other's ships in order to claim why your's is 'right' or 'correct'. You are also making a toxic fandom, and while im sure alot of people these days don't let fandoms ruin shows for them, you are ruining that community and possible expierance for them. Alot of people need the safe place of a fandom and community of people that enjoy the same great piece of media they also enjoy and you're taking that from them.

You're also creating dead fandoms. no one wants to interact with a toxic fandom, so the fandoms that are, are gonna die. you are part of the fandom and therefore part of keeping it alive. this is mainly aimed and toxic bkdk and jegulus shipping but there are alot of others I've seen.

Personally im a multishipper, so I rarely come across shipping i cant see logic behind (at least) but i know lots of people can't see ships like that so if you can't, please at the least be decent in your own community that you're supposed to be nurturing and supporting.

also feeling the need to bring up jegulus as an example again, but another version of putting down other ships is also villainizing/degrading characters. You can ship someone in a cannon relationship with someone else, and you can give reasons in fics and such as to why they arent in that relationship in that context, but being purposely horrible (making peope hate the character for no reason counts as being horrible to the character) and mischaracterizing someone to be a bad guy/villainizing them, is toxic, alot of the time misogynistic, and another way of shitting on someone else's ship in order to make yours seem better.

please remember that whilst you are at liberty to ship who you want (ETHICALLY) they are at liberty to disagree with that ship. see? now move on and go your separate ways.

As much as I enjoyed Murder Drones. I think people should stop accusing episode 3 of The Amazing Digital Circus of copying episode 5 of Murder Drones.

(SPOILER ALERT)

1. It’s made by the same company, Glitch Productions

2. The stories are WAY different from each other.

3. Just because it takes place in a haunted mansion, it’s horror related, and when Pomni gets possessed by something evil does not mean it’s from Murder Drones. A lot of stuff before Murder Drones has had that stuff.

Yes both are made by the same company, but that’s not really an excuse to say that Pomni got possessed by Cyn. Like Cyn/Solver and the evil souls that possessed Pomni are way different from each other. And Martha is NOT Tessa. Tessa died when she was only a child. Martha is an adult who was already married and was killed by her own husband. And Tessa is and Aussie too. I know Martha looks like a human from Murder Drones, but the humans are shown as silhouettes. Martha is a ghost so it makes sense we see her that way and plus, it’s easier to tell what she looks like unlike the humans from Murder Drones.

It’s almost like no shows or movies that have Haunted Mansions, people getting possessed, ghosts, horror related can avoid being called a ‘knock off’ of Murder Drones. Honestly it’s annoying.

The Amazing Digital Circus is also favourited by Glitch because it’s their most popular show! If you all made many shows and one got more popular, you would all probably be playing favourite too and Gooseworx said herself that Murder drones is not at all cancelled because of the Digital Circus. Liam wanted to end the show because he felt like he was done with the story and probably just wanted to take a break, and yet you guys are here literally trying to torture or blackmail him into making a season 2?

Anti Tagging is a Broken System

So there was this anti Zutara post that I saw a while ago that was tagged as both 'anti zutara' and 'zutara'. As you can imagine, zutara bloggers were mad and the OP claimed they tagged the post as 'zutara' as payback for zutara fans bashing kataang in the 'kataang' tag.

There was also a jedi critical post that was considered to be insulting to someone's religion or culture or some other nonsense. The person asked (**demanded**), the post be tagged as 'anti jedi' because seeing it in the 'jedi order' tag was causing real-world harm.

It confirmed my belief that the tagging system is severely broken and lacking.

These are two issues at play that I notice:

Villain vs Hero Double Standard

What's interesting is that this issue is mainly relevant for protagonists. If I want to bash Ozai, Palpatine or Joker on Tumblr, I don't have to tag my posts as anti. Maybe their fans would prefer it but we all know that these men are villains and the lowest scum in media. It's not bashing - it's the cold hard truth.

So why is it that my calling Ozai a bad father is not Ozai bashing, but me calling Aang a bad father is Aang bashing?? Why the double standards?? Sure, the hero will likely be more sympathetic because we are meant to root for them. But at the end of the day, just like Ozai, Aang played favourites and this left scars on his kids even in their fifties. If you are an Aang fan you can try to justify it, but his actions still hurt his kids no matter how you spin it.

What Does 'Anti' Even Mean??

There are too many ways to be anti character, anti ship etc which makes things murky.

Let's use Kataang as an example. Are you anti Kataang because you objectively looked at the ATLA show and you think how it is presented makes it a bad ship? Are you anti KA because you genuinely like the ship but you think it was not developed properly or did not go the way you thought best? Are you anti KA because you are just emotionally repulsed for whatever reason even though canon may give you reasons to support it? Are you anti KA just because it may be popular to be so in your circle?

That's the problem. Theoretically, the first two scenarios could be classified under the general 'kataang' tag. Because people who hold those opinions are not just bashing it for no reason but have objective truths that they have observed about the ship. Saying that Aang kissed Katara without her consent is an objective truth. Why should that be labelled as 'anti kataang'? It's the truth about the ship.

How would I address this?

The general tag should not be treated as a safe space. If you want a safe space, stick to a 'pro' or 'anti' tag. The general tag should be treated like a neutral zone where everything is laid on the table for debate and discourse. So if I browse the Jedi Order tag, I should see metas about cool Jedi powers and master-padawan relationships but also metas about the separation of families and the social harm it causes kids.

People need to stop being babies and grow up. If someone posts a critical meta about the Jedi order, it does not mean they are attacking whatever religion you have or calling for genocide in real life. Do you know how much witchcraft, paganism, atheism and other kinds of Christian bashing posts I see in the Christianity tag?? If you don't like something, just scroll past it like a big kid. Don't send death or rape threats to someone if you disagree with them.

I think if someone does not have substantial or accurate reasons for hating something, they should stick to the anti tag and avoid the general tag.

What do others think?? Tagging is hard because it's up to the discretion of the poster but I hope my arguments here made sense.

I don't want to put this in the tags, since people are just having fun, but I figure you probably won't mind hearing my anon-complaints. I'm getting super annoyed by the recent influx of Jiang Chang related SVSSS crossover posts (and fics to a lesser extent).

Seeing JC interact with the PIDW world could be incredibly interesting, but the posts I keep spotting are all about the woobiefied fanon version of JC. JC and YQY are not all that much alike (JC isn't remotely loyal to WWX), and I don't think he'd get along well with LQG. The JC and SJ dynamic actually does seem like it would be fun to read, but with how toxic they both are it would be 'fun' more in the 'watching a car crash in slow motion' sort of way, rather then anything wholesome.

Anyway, mini-rant over!

Fanon: Everyone in svsss would just love Jiang Cheng!

Canon: Shen Qingqiu would take one look at Jiang Cheng and just assume that the natural state of PIDW requires a canon fodder villain to be killed. Assuming he was some previously no-named lackey, after the second time Jiang Cheng attacks Luo Binghe, Shen Qingqiu wouldn’t try to save him, anymore. Nobody else would have even cared to try.

Anyways, I know exactly what posts you’re talking about and exactly which blog keeps making them. Unfortunately for me, tumblr is trying this new thing out called “if the blog you blocked is a jc stan, the block doesn’t count,” so fuck people “having fun” in the tags. If I can’t have fun with canon on my own dash, no one is allowed to have fun with fanon on it, either 😤

what the issue here is was Yaelokre saying “report this to me (if you see it)”, asking other people (mostly minors) to do that for them, staying silent when their fans started sending graphic threats to other artists and threatening to misuse DMCA takedown strikes as a way to control the fandom and what people make

Again, you are allowed to feel uncomfortable with anything, you don’t even need to have a reason

but everyone acts like we’re living in a perfect and ideal world where everyone respects each other’s feelings and boundaries.

The reality is that fandoms and this world aren’t ideal, and you can’t control what other people think, feel about or how they are going to interpret your work

You will be told instead that the sexualization of your work WILL happen regardless of your feelings and to be prepared for it

NO ONE said you have to accept or be comfortable with that

thinking about the dark side of cesare fanning the flames-- or at the very least just not doing anything to stop them-- of the unholy love/desire he and lucrezia felt for each other when he just playfully chased her around the garden after discovering she was watching him fuck another woman, or when he planted the idea that he'd be the only one to care for her heart, or when he implied the love between them was comparable to the love of God, calling it "as all-consuming and pure as the love of God"....an idea she later reflects in season 3 when she says "one touch of your hand and God comes rushing back" (also in the same scene "whatever it is, it overwhelms".) like, yes, okay I do believe lucrezia is probably the one that shifted their relationship into sexual terrority (not on purpose though!!), but cesare is older by a few years. he would've understood it to be wrong before she did, and he could've sat her down at any point in season 1 or 2 and told her "hey, this isn't how brothers and sisters are supposed to feel about each other. we can't lean into whatever this is, okay?" and then made an actual effort to let her go instead of just half-assing it before then immediately beginning the build up of the already thick sexual tension between them until it was unbearable and she was left thinking her husband didn't care about her because he wouldn't sleep with her, so she climbed into cesare's bed and convinced him they should just get it on because no one else could understand them and people already it whisper about them anyway, so "why deny ourselves the pleasure?" very sick and twisted of him. I kinda hate him for it actually. because if he hadn't gone and created this "ideal lover" in lucrezia's head that only he could fit the mold of, she might've found actual happiness with someone else!! 😡 😡

Little rant

This might be controversial, but I have to say it because it has been bothering me so much when reading comments on Snape posts.

The whole Snape vs. The Marauders thing is not an either/or debate. They were all deeply flawed individuals with their own issues and trauma that made them act out in ways that deeply hurt each other.

Severus' childhood was shit. He was an outsider and the only one that treated him kindly was Lily. But then he called her a slur, which in the Harry Potter universe, is just about as bad as saying the n-word (even though I hate making that comparison). It was in the heat of the moment because he was embarrased and hurt, but that does NOT JUSTIFY IT. He also abuses children in his adulthood on a daily basis. That is also NOT JUSTIFIED JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BULLIED AS A CHILD. He also abuses Harry so much just because he looks like his dad. THAT IS NOT JUSTIFIED JUST BECAUSE HE WAS BULLIED BY JAMES.

Sirius Black (I'm going to focus on him because he was Snape's main antagonist) grew up in an incredibly toxic and blood-supremecist family. He hated it and saw how evil it was. It was the start of the war. People were literally being murdered by Death Eaters. And then his own brother wanted to become one. He knew what they were capable of. THAT DOES NOT JUSTIFY HIS BULLYING OF SNAPE, especially because he had not become a Death Eater yet. He was absolutely awful to him, even into adulthood, when he was fighting for the good side, and that is not okay. BUT lets not forget, Snape did become a Death Eater for a period of time. His sad past does not justify it. Sirius went to prison wrongfully and lost 12 years of his life. That does not justify his incredibly immature behavior towards Snape or his toxicity around Harry.

Same goes for James. I consider Remus a little bit more of a victim in this whole thing, because he was suffering as a werewolf, and Snape wanted to expose him as one, even though it would mean his expulsion from not only Hogwarts, but society. Even into adulthood, Snape spent Remus' entire time at Hogwarts literally trying to ruin Remus' life. That is simply NOT OKAY.

Lily really didn't deserve any of this and I hate the hate she gets from Snape-lovers, just because she didn't want to be his friend after getting called a LITERAL SLUR. She was literally defending him. Snape messed that up for himself. Also, Lily didn't get with James immediately afterward. They grew up a little and grew as people a little and came together.

As you can probably tell, I am a tad more sympathetic to the Marauders (I've been in the fandom since I was in sixth grade). But I understand that ALL OF THESE PEOPLE are INCREDIBLY FLAWED AND NUANCED. SIRIUS AND SNAPE ARE EQUALLY FLAWED. I understand why people love Snape as a character and I believe that is completely valid even though I do not love him as much myself. I also think that the author who will not be named did a pretty shitty job on Snape's redemption arc, but I can appreciate it for what it should have been. Really, this comes down to bad writing on her part. We should have gotten a much better and more fleshed out redemption for Snape (and better character motivation for that matter). We should have had Harry reckon a little more with the Marauders as flawed individuals. Someone should have called Sirius out on his bullshit and someone should have called Snape out on his bullshit as well. But we didn't get that due to poor planning for the series.

What I'm trying to say is, I wish people would stop utterly trashing these characters in order to justify the shitty behavior of their favorite one, because they all suck as people.

There’s the Hazbin hotel fandom with RadioApple, they refuse to acknowledge that Lucifer and Alastor hate each other and erase Alastor aroace identity, plus Lucifer loves his wife Lilith

There’s the My Hero Academia fandom with Bakudeku, and Bakugo literally ruins Deku’s self esteem and is such an ass to him, when Uraka would probably treat Deku WAY better

There’s also Danganronpa with Nagito x Hajime, where people apparently blame Chiaki for getting in the way of the relationship when Nagito needs to be sent to the psyche ward for how mentally insane he is 💀

Heck, even smiling friends faces this to. Charlie canonically has his girlfriend Zoe, yet there’s Charpim shippers who hate her cause she “gets in the way”

And lastly, a lesser known fandom that I’m apart of. Amateur Surgeon: Amateur Surgeon “fans” who ship Hubralan aren’t even real fans to me, besides, I heard from a friend that people demonize Aureola (Alan’s canon wife he’s MARRIED to) even though Aureola was driven through grief. (And fyi Hubris literally canonically tried to MURDER Alan thank you very much)
