Severus Snape would be the first to hate himself and would ask his fans what the hell they’re doing with their lives defending him like this, but he’d also be the first to enjoy watching his fans tear James Potter apart at the first opportunity to reduce him to ashes amidst all imaginable pain. My guy has always been full of contradictions

Another day another nothingeverlost video where she confidently asserts that snape deserved SWM as if a teenager with racist tendencies deserves public humiliation instead of adult guidance

i think fudge probably knew about the mark and snapes history but just believed that snape, like dumbledore, was making shit up (because thats what he wants to believe. 'apparently' repelled—hes just in denial)
but i do think this has some merit cuz... snape doesnt seem like he really likes being a teacher. but dumbledore is headmaster and stays at the school 80% of the year. now he has a servant of voldemort who legit has a reason to turn against him, and one whos highly skilled to boot. if he truly did believe that voldemort would come back he'd likely want to be informed asap. plus, hes gotta keep an eye on him—if voldemort comes back and he hasnt spoken to snape in years, whos to say snape wouldnt change his mind and go right back to his death eater ways? so...
"would you like to be potions master?"
"...what"
"you start next month"
"???"
and later,
"yeah i wonder why snape wants the DADA job so badly when no one ever lasts a year in it" 🤔
dumbledore revealing Snape as his spy after the end of the first war is so interesting and so reflective of his character: it's an act of mercy and also a saw trap. BC I doubt anyone else, or any other strategy, would have been able to get Snape out of Azkaban: the other death eaters would be focused on saving their own skins, and without the protection of being a Death Eater Snape becomes just another poor half-blood, probably the exact kind of person who would make an easy scapegoat for Death Eater activity (in scapegoat terms he's just like Sirius! For different reasons obviously. See my Sirius the perfect scapegoat meta). So Snape is spared the horrors of Azkaban. BUT: Dumbledore burning Snape as a spy--in full knowledge of two things, that Snape is more motivated now than ever to attack Voldemort after Lily is dead, and that Voldemort hasn't been fully defeated, means that Snape MUST become a double agent. Otherwise he will be useless in the next conflict --a spy in Voldemort's ranks is much more valuable than another fighter, even one as skilled as Snape, and I think at this point in his life he would have wanted to cause the most damage to Voldemort by any means necessary. And being a double agent is no perfect redemption: it means having to betray both sides of the war. Snape can never be fully welcomed into the Order's side because every Order member knows he might have to get them killed so Voldemort will trust him. So by being revealed as Dumbledore's spy, Dumbledore ensures Snape will never have a full place on either side of British society.

Half-Blood Prince is like:
Hermione: I wish Ron liked me back
Ron: I wish Hermione liked me back
Lavender: I wish Ron liked me back
Ginny: I wish Harry liked me back
Dean: I wish Ginny liked me back
Seamus: I wish dean liked me back
Harry: I wish Ginny liked me back
Draco: The only way to save myself and my family is to kill Dumbledore which will end the rest of the entire wizarding world, Snape and Harry won’t get off my back, and i have no idea how to fix the magic cabinet but if i fail GrayBack will kill me and my mother
Snape: I wish Lilly liked me back

For the record, he is not an angel. However, he is forced into the (albeit bullying) guardian angel position.
Don't judge. I just wanted to doodle wings.

I've noticed something about Snape—one of his biggest red lines, the thing that truly pushes him to his limit, is when someone's life is in danger.
In those moments, he becomes the most vulnerable version of himself. He forgets everything—every grudge, every precaution, every defense mechanism—and his only focus is getting people out of harm's way, no matter the cost.
So vulnerable that hearing about Ginny Weasley's kidnapping forces him to lean on the back of a chair. So vulnerable and unguarded that while saving Harry from Quirrell’s curse, an eleven-year-old sets him on fire. So vulnerable that, in his attempt to manage the chaos of the Shrieking Shack—with children, a werewolf, and a supposed murderer—he’s disarmed by 13-year-olds. He's so reckless that he makes an Unbreakable Vow for Draco. So reckless that he chases a werewolf, without Wolfsbane, under the full moon near sunset. So reckless that he ventures into the Forbidden Forest to find lost children. So reckless that he roams the hallways in the middle of the night, in his nightgown, chasing the sound of a scream. So reckless that, as a Death Eater, he risks everything to warn the leader of the opposite side about Voldemort's plans to kill the Potters—and is willing to give anything to save them. He's so ungrudging that he carefully carries an unconscious Sirius Black. So ungrudging that when Black is captured, he checks on him immediately and alerts the Order of the Phoenix. So ungrudging that he risks his cover to save Lupin.
And I think these moments say so much about his humanity—things the books never fully explain.
