Completely fallacious argument. In the 1930s and 40s, when Europe was fighting in WWII, many who fought against fascism and advocated for the workers' struggle were openly homophobic. Fighting against the bad guys doesn’t make you an ally. There’s nothing in history that suggests the Marauders wouldn’t have been just as prejudiced about gays as was typical back then. In fact, their constant mocking of Snape’s physical appearance is the typical behavior of alpha dudebros with fragile masculinity. Sirius’s extreme violence shows he had a need to reaffirm his masculinity, not to mention James, whose conquest tactics with Lily were exactly like any basic hetero dude clueless about boundaries. Here, we’re not judging based on the fantasy world you’ve built in that fandom, but on the canonical facts of the story and the characters portrayed in it.

The whole "boo hoo you can't say anything without being called homophobic/conservative" is a great way to not take responsibility for your words and their implications. Think about why you try to whitewash the attitudes of a gang of rich aristocratic brats who abused their power against the poor because you feel the need to feel popular by projecting yourself onto them, while downplaying the abuse and crimes they committed. Think about why you need to resort to a biased discourse about inclusion when inclusion is actually just a tool for the characters you want to project onto to get a free pass for their crap, and think about how your activism isn’t really activism but a utilitarian way to keep normalizing a classist discourse where the upper classes have the right to crush the lower classes.

Unpopular opinion that will get me labeled as a "homophobe and conservative": If in the canon (book) the marauders were all decked out in piercings, tattoos, crop tops, lace, wore lipstick, identified as LGBTQ+ characters, and had different pronouns... they would have been branded, bullied, and beaten up. Walburga would definitely have scolded Sirius for his makeup, crop tops, and thongs (especially since that’s Muggle clothing). Lily would never have married a trans gay non-binary lesbian Dési-Mexican-Indian James and would most likely have sided with Severus.

But come on, we’ve said this so many times. The Marauders lived in the 1970s, there’s no way they were everything the fandom has turned them into. I mean, they were upper-class white boys with abusive, alpha male behavior. They were the complete opposite of how the fandom wants to portray them. If the real Sirius Black saw his fandom version, he’d either beat him up or mock him relentlessly.

The problem with what they’ve done to the Marauders’ personalities and representation is that there’s no way those headcanons and fan portrayals are compatible with who the Marauders actually were.
