Uzi's powerset is pretty much just what the song says, but with a supernatural and literal interpretation: souls appear as baubles, and death's birds are tasked with retrieving them and delivering them to it (imagining that death is kinda just the Solver in the au, just for cohesions sake).

N is not initially on the metaphorical hitlist...until they become pretty close friends, that is. And at that point...she doesn't want to kill him. Angst ensues.

Question/informal poll for those who play rotationally in any frequency you consider somewhat regular!

How many households are in your hood

How frequently do you play

How long does it take you to get through an entire rotation

I mentioned in chat on a stream I was watching recently that my hood currently has about 25-30 households (26 as of the end of the last rotation when I counted). I play roughly once a week - occasionally I play twice a week, sometimes as much as 1.5-2 weeks passes between play sessions but that is more rare. It takes me about 6 months total to get through an entire rotation at this pace. (edited to add - I play 5 day rounds per family!)

People in the chat said this was a long time which surprised me because I feel like it's really, really quick! But I don't have any other frame of reference I suppose. It also feels much quicker to me because of the pacing of my gameplay vs. picture editing vs. gameplay posting.

For example, I played Louise's round in mid-late November last year. I edited the pictures for her round in early February, and posted the gameplay summary in the last few days. So if I stay on my usual pace, I'll be due to play her again in probably May or so. Since I just went through all her pictures for the round twice in February (once to edit and once to post), it's going to feel a lot more fresh when I play her again in May-ish, so in my mind it feels like I just played her. And this is my usual timeline for editing and posting, so it was always feels to me like I just played this household when I come back around to them, because I edited and posted their pics far more recently.

Honestly, because of this I sometimes feel like yikes, I need to slow down! I'm playing through too fast! Whatever "too fast" means? Even though I consciously know playing like 1-2x a week at most is really NOT a lot.

So yeah - what's your pacing like?

I saw someone say that a FeMC route in Reload would need about 1.5-2x as much voicework after examining the script of Portable

I call bullshit on that. 1st off. They can gender neutral the dialogue to make it so whenever the player is referred to in a line that's used in both routes, They/Them can be used to save space. 2nd. Full voicework was not needed for every single Social Link, SUE ME.

Also if they didn't think FeMC route was popular then they're damn idiots. She's still got some of the best Social Links and people REALLY like the Male characters in 3 of COURSE they want to get to know them... which is why they made Link Episodes. Goddamn, they just didn't want to bother with her, it's as simple as that

Atlus could have waited to release it if this was a thing they cared about doing. Or really, planned the release date from the beginning to be later to incorporate including FeMC which would have been the easier option.

And, like you said, cut back on some of the other added stuff that's redundant with FeMC! Again all the social links didn't need full voice acting. You don't need Link Episodes on TOP of the theurgy hangouts if you get FeMC's social links with the guys. You can probably edit or recut some of the animated cutscenes to not show the protagonist!

And, just like it's easier to build a an apartment with accessible doorways from scratch than it is to take an existing building and carve the doorways to be wider it would have been easier if all of this was done in like 2018 or whenever they first started planning this game.

I'm sorry if they're annoyed by people asking for FeMC but frankly it's an entirely self-inflicted own goal because they should have known she'd be popular.

So I doubt she's in the works. I think they just didn't want to bother like you said and somehow didn't realize that, hey, people would want to play as the only female protagonist in modern persona games

Which, you know, at the end of the day they're not required to add something in just because a lot of people would want it, but by that same token I'm not really required to spare their feelings when I think that's disappointing

Writeup: Forcing Minecraft to play on a Trident Blade 3D.

The first official companion writeup to a video I've put out!

So. Uh, yeah. Trident Blade 3D. If you've seen the video already, it's... not good. Especially in OpenGL.

Let's kick things off with a quick rundown of the specs of the card, according to AIDA64:

And now, with specs done and out of the way, my notes!

As mentioned earlier, the Trident Blade 3D is mind-numbingly slow when it comes to OpenGL. As in, to the point where at least natively during actual gameplay (Minecraft, because I can), it is absolutely beaten to a pulp using AltOGL, an OpenGL-to-Direct3D6 "wrapper" that translates OpenGL API calls to DirectX ones.

Normally, it can be expected that performance using the wrapper is about equal to native OpenGL, give or take some fps depending on driver optimization, but this card?

The Blade 3D may as well be better off like the S3 ViRGE by having no OpenGL ICD shipped in any driver release, period.

For the purposes of this writeup, I will stick to a very specific version of Minecraft: in-20091223-1459, the very first version of what would soon become Minecraft's "Indev" phase, though this version notably lacks any survival features and aside from the MD3 models present, is indistinguishable from previous versions of Classic. All settings are at their absolute minimum, and the window size is left at default, with a desktop resolution of 1024x768 and 16-bit color depth.

(Also the 1.5-era launcher I use is incapable of launching anything older than this version anyway)

Though known to be unstable (as seen in the full video), gameplay in Minecraft Classic using AltOGL reaches a steady 15 fps, nearly triple that of the native OpenGL ICD that ships with Trident's drivers the card. AltOGL also is known to often have issues with fog rendering on older cards, and the Blade 3D is no exception... though, I believe it may be far more preferable to have no working fog than... well, whatever the heck the Blade 3D is trying to do with its native ICD.

See for yourself: (don't mind the weirdness at the very beginning. OBS had a couple of hiccups)

Later versions of Minecraft were also tested, where I found that the Trident Blade 3D follows the same, as I call them, "version boundaries" as the SiS 315(E) and the ATi Rage 128, both of which being cards that easily run circles around the Blade 3D.

Version ranges mentioned are inclusive of their endpoints.

Infdev 1.136 (inf-20100627) through Beta b1.5_01 exhibit world-load crashes on both the SiS 315(E) and Trident Blade 3D.

Alpha a1.0.4 through Beta b1.3_01/PC-Gamer demo crash on the title screen due to the animated "falling blocks"-style Minecraft logo on both the ATi Rage 128 and Trident Blade 3D.

All the bugginess of two much better cards, and none of the performance that came with those bugs.

Interestingly, versions even up to and including Minecraft release 1.5.2 are able to launch to the main menu, though by then the already-terrible lag present in all prior versions of the game when run on the Blade 3D make it practically impossible to even press the necessary buttons to load into a world in the first place. Though this card is running in AGP 1x mode, I sincerely doubt that running it at its supposedly-supported 2x mode would bring much if any meaningful performance increase.

Lastly, ClassiCube. ClassiCube is a completely open-source reimplementation of Minecraft Classic in C, which allows it to bypass the overhead normally associated with Java's VM platform. However, this does not grant it any escape from the black hole of performance that is the Trident Blade 3D's OpenGL ICD. Not only this, but oddly, the red and blue color channels appear to be switched by the Blade 3D, resulting in a very strange looking game that chugs along at single-digits. As for the game's DirectX-compatible version, the requirement of DirectX 9 support locks out any chance for the Blade 3D to run ClassiCube with any semblance of performance. Also AltOGL is known to crash ClassiCube so hard that a power cycle is required.

Interestingly, a solid half of the accelerated pixel formats supported by the Blade 3D, according to the utility GLInfo, are "render to bitmap" modes, which I'm told is a "render to texture" feature that normally isn't seen on cards as old as the Blade 3D. Or in fact, at least in my experience, any cards outside of the Blade 3D. I've searched through my saved GLInfo reports across many different cards, only to find each one supporting the usual "render to window" pixel format.

And with that, for now, this is the end of the very first post-video writeup on this blog. Thank you for reading if you've made it this far.

I leave you with this delightfully-crunchy clip of the card's native OpenGL ICD running in 256-color mode, which fixes the rendering problems but... uh, yeah. It's a supported accelerated pixel format, but "accelerated" is a stretch like none other. 32-bit color is supported as well, but it performs about identically to the 8-bit color mode--that is, even worse than 16-bit color performs.

At least it fixes the rendering issues I guess.

As an American, your fees are so low compared to the ones in my area. I personally don’t ride but legitimately every one of my brothers friends and his gf do and keep horses and ponies and 20k is very much low end for an average pony and I don’t know any in that range.

The only exception I know of is the time my SIL bought a pony from the kill pen for $20 a few years back. He’s wonderful and his name is poptart and he is the true embodiment of ponies being absolute idiots. He runs into things, won’t eat unless there’s pieces of crushed pop tarts in his food, etc. He also grew up around Clydesdales so he thinks he’s absolutely massive and won’t take tight turns or go through smallish gaps bc he doesn’t thing he fits.

Even large group classes are like $75-$100 (£57-£75) a class and if you try to learn on a smaller scale (like a three pack versus a full session of multiple weeks) the price can go up by 1.5-2x the rate. Stable fees are also about 1.5x that of the UK and it ended up being cheaper for a few of his friends parents to build their own barns and stables then to pay fees if they had more than 2 animals

Yeah I think riding, especially English rather than US style is way less accessible in the US than the UK. Any time I’ve met an American and say I used to ride horses competitively without owning a large property, they think I must be rich lol but back when I was riding it was a pretty middle class activity. It probably still is based on inflation.

Same with private schooling. Proportional to income it’s way more expensive there than here.

Comic progress - 20-31 May

lol didn't hit my target. this fortnight was a bitch.

I tracked 10 hours. I think i forgot to log a tiny bit, but yeah, this fortnight was just really bad. I had to bring work home with me, so a few days I was just able to draw during quick breaks. I've been really trying to work out what scale I want to draw at. I'm drawing my comic physically, cause I've found I enjoy that more, and I want it formatted as if it were a physical comic (even tho its a digimon fan comic and so will never be printed). So do I draw at 2 times scale, or 1.5?

I took a break from cleaning up thumbnails to pencil this page as a test, at 1.5x scale. This image is from a panel that took up ~a third of the page, and is a close up, and I'm really happy with the detail. As for the rest of the panels, I'm just not good enough to draw ok at that scale.

So new plan: each panel gets drawn separately, blown up until it takes up nearly a page. bigger panels can use A3, smaller panels will use A4. Everything gets at least 1.5x blown up, but most things will be more like 2x or more. Then it'll scan them separately and combine on the computer. That'll also make it easier to convert to webcomic format I suppose.

It's actually only equal! There's an easy way to prove it. The way we compare sets (even the infinite ones) is by establishing a bijection - try to establish a 1:1 correlation between each element of one to an element of the other and vice-versa. In other words, if you can take one infinity and another infinity, and make every number of one correspond to one and only one number of the other, then you have proven they're the same.

So let's take 1x infinity. We can represent it as the integers. 1; 2; 3; 4; 5... On the other hand, let's have 2x infinity. Just pick the integers and add the halves. .5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5... you can intuitively tell there are twice as many numbers between any two points you set, because you add them up half-by-half rather than one-by-one.

Can we make them all correspond to each other until each of them goes to infinity?

Yeah, actually we can! You take the entire list of "1x infinity" and you divide everything by 2, so you get the "2x infinity" list. And they both keep going forever but for each element of one list there's a corresponding element in the other. You can make it go both ways: simply multiply every element in the "2x infinity" list by 2... and you get the "1x infinity" list back.

You can make it work with any integer. 14 000 000 000 x infinity is still the same, you can prove it the same way: they both reach infinity.

If you want differently-sized infinities, you need to dream... bigger. Mathematicians have successfully proven that if you consider negative numbers, it's still the same size, and if you consider all fractions, well, it's still the same size too! But if you look at the set of real numbers (that's the name of the set wherein you add stuff like "square root of two" and "pi" and all the infinite numbers after the decimal point) then it's finally a bigger one, definitely.

These proofs can be complicated to follow, but when you look them up they can be great fun! you get to do stuff with numbers that maths classes never let you get away with.

I've been pondering something and I need a mathematician to tell me if this is correct:

infinity multiplied by 1 is simultaneously equal to and less that infinity multiplied by 2.

it's less because 1 is less than 2 but they are also equal because both are infinite.

is this correct? or am I haunted by visions of a universe I don't understand?

how ship influences kudos count: a deeper dive

a follow-up to this: looking at how ship influences kudos count. looked at otp:true vs otp:false [part 1], and the top ships in the fandom vs the top femslash ships [part 2] -- and then a bonus part 3: a more general comparison of otp:true and otp:false fics, by ship

part 1: otp:true vs otp:false

Observations:

otp:true findings were discussed in the previous post. main thing of note: the relatively low kudos of wolfstar hinny and jily!!

Snarry is the clear top ship when it comes to otp:false. needs to be corrected for ship age (Snarry fic tends to be older than fic of most other ships; note that this is otp:true though), but Hinny and Jily are still less kudosed than other ships.

wolfstar otp:false has an unusually high number of kudos at the lowest end of the kudos range. that's so unexpected (and lovely to see)! if it were an unusual amount of folks tracking the wolfstar tag and kudosing everything, I'd expect to see that effect hitting wolfstar otp:true too, but given that it doesn't, my best guess is there's a different ship that's very overrepresented specifically in this population of wolfstar otp:false <~35-40 kudos (ish) [more so than wolfstar fics with higher kudos counts] that's very popular. curious to know what that is!

otp:false fics get ~1.5-2X more kudos than otp:true fics for virtually every single ship I looked at--with the clear exception of Sevmione! again, some likely confounding factors here (fic length is a big one: otp:false fics tend to be significantly longer than otp:true fic), some more detailed analysis of word count is on the to-do list!

all graphs are kinda sorta linear until the last 5-10%, which I imagine is where the popularity boost really starts to kick in.

my only defense for whatever is going on in dorlene is: my (currently-not-stats-supported) impression is that the works are largely newer, and thus haven't had as much time to accumulate kudos yet. TBC if that's true!

on the flip side: hell yeah to Fleurmione fandom & Cissamione fandom, you all are doing a GREAT job of engaging with (kudos'ing) the fics you want to see. love to see it.

Fleurmione was more often written as otp:true, and other than that tended to get paired with other femslash Hermione ships. drabble anthologies by dedicated femslash writers/ for femslash-specific events (eg femslash february) is my guess? also, very intrigued by the tagging of the & pairing

Dorlene is virtually pointless to analyse without otp:true or some other filter, being like >90% also Wolfstar.

more statsy conversation in the @hpsaffics discord -- @siriusly-sapphic and I were wondering how fic length varied with popularity of ship. @toastystats' findings that het works tend to be longer than f/f and m/m came to mind, and I was reminded that I've been meaning to check if some of these v interesting findings are true for harry potter fic, specifically!

so anyway I did not do quite that but did something kind of related:

took the total number of works on AO3 (filtered for english only, no crossovers, wc>1, and otp:true), sorted by word count, and clicked through to get the word count of the ~10th* percentile fic, ~20th percentile fic, etc etc)

(*full disclosure: i used google sheet formulas to get the page number and took the word count of the first fic on that page. so, nth percentile work +/- 20 works.)

"F/F only" = F/F -F/M -M/M &c

"excl. top10" = excluded the top 10 ships, "excl. top 20" = did that and then did it again, which IK may not precisely be the top 20 ships but hey. the most common ships left were Prongsfoot, Linny, and Tomione, at ~1k works each out of 78.5k.

this above is the master graph, zoomed in versions below because the scale of that graph is impossible to actually read

'smooth line chart' went a little wonky on that last graph but

seems like the het ships DO tend to have long fics. feels like sevmione has a ton of both long (>20k) fic and midlength fic, and dramione has a lot of midlength (5-10k) fic, and jily more ~1-5k fic.

snarry has a lot of unusually short fics (<500, <1k words) that drag down the bottom-most part of the chart, but there's proportionally a lot of >20k longfic too. wolfstar surprisingly has much less >50k work than the other two mslash ships! in fact wolfstar & snarry have some real interesting contrasts going on there.

HP femslash is noticeably shorter than other types of works, ~30% shorter than mslash at every percentile and almost half the length of het works. the catch-up to mslash at the 99th percentile (or, conversely, drop-off of mslash?) is intriguing though!

brief observation re. third graph: interesting -- in the mid range at least, wolfstar looks/behave a lot more like a 'rarepair' (anything excluding the top 10 ships) than drarry, snarry, or even "M/M -F/F -F/M".

5. RE: BJD Divaz

I’ve been a customer of BJD Divaz since they first started, when it was only run by Chart3rline. I even contacted other BJD companies trying to persuade them to work with Divaz as their US representative. Most declined because they didnt like D's commission fee, but I was able to persuade a few of them.

I asked them to purchase a doll off DOA because I couldnt afford the asking price, and while they did, I found out later that instead of agreeing to purchase the seller's price, they negotiated the price to be lower. This significantly cheaper price was not passed down to me. I paid the full price +the commission fee based on that full price. I am disappointed I was not told this. This is when I stopped viewing them as a "friend" and instead, as a business. I dont hold this against them, it’s context to what Im going to say later.

I’ve stopped purchasing from D after my recent order from them. This company usually takes 3 or less months to make a doll. I’ve ordered the doll from D and it took 11 months. They let me know it arrived to them in March and that it will be shipped soon, except it only shipped on July, and only after I sent them several "reminder" emails. Before people in the comments try to put the blame on me for not sending a reminder soon, please keep in mind that I acknowledged the email in March and confirmed everything and they keep stressing to not send them emails because they are busy, I’ve emailed once every month since. I’ve since switched to ACBJD and Ive been happy with communication and the dolls ordered. I imagine ACBJD gets the same amount of emails, but they dont berate their customers if they email more than once.

I regret when people wanted a D0llshe, but not deal with him, I always recommended D. I would warn people of ordering directly and instead go through D. They assured buyers they would be handling communication and all the efforts so they wouldnt worry, except they didn’t. A person that I’ve recommended D to, who surpassed 2 years, keeps messaging me for help because D wouldnt reply to their emails. She is respectful, sweet and a timid person, not a Karen. This person, emailed D without a reply so would email a week later, only to be told that their email would be pushed down to the bottom if emailed again. No response, so she goes to FB and IG, who both tell her to email because they arent the person running orders. Finally got a response that they would get their refund, after D0llshe sends D's payment, but minus the PP fees. 3 months later and theres no refund, only a promise of them getting it later. Why is the customer missing out on fees when they have no doll? Customer emails d0llshe and he says he cant offer refund, because they didn’t order through them, which is understandable, but when all options are out for a customer, do you blame them for chargebacks?

If anyone files a chargeback, D will be blacklisting them from every company they rep, as in blacklisting you from buying direct from those companies. I urge everyone who has negative experiences with D to email the companies they rep instead of venting on confession blogs, and writing your experiences on social media. Make it count and send letters to the companies they represent, and please provide proof because they will try to make you out to be a liar.

Speaking of, they made vague posts on cl0ver singing for charging paypal fees, and that they offer guarantees as an official dealer, except when offering refunds, to non delivered products I might add, they are keeping the fees, and offered no help with d0llshe, even before they ended their dealership with them. Someone on DOA was told to not email them unless the wait time surpassed 1.5 years. They are even so petty that they post screenshots with the full name and address (dox) of the customer on purpose and then delete it out a day later as if they just realized their "mistake".

Before you try to make excuses for them about the fires, keep in mind, I am dealing with a business. The lower price negotiation with the DOA sale, I am in no way obligated to give them a pass or treat them as a friend when they made it clear that our relationship is strictly business. Their issues, are not my issues. D0lk got dragged for not shipping in time, others, including artisans, got dragged for being so late with communication and sending back refunds for cancelled orders. Why does D get to be exempt?

The supporters are the worst part of this, because of instead of being honest so D can improve, they support them for being "real". For example, look how micemage words it, to make it seem like this criticism is from one person, when there are people on addicts who didn’t have good experience. Check the bjd dealers tag here, you will see the supporters in the comments going off on any and all criticism of D. Some have sane comments, but the majority are cult like and try to identify the person venting as if it’s one person. Addicts deletes threads with criticism asking people to instead direct it to their feedback group; which lets be honest, no one is going to do because its "not that bad", and most dont want to join a new group, which is mostly dead.

This is my first and last confession on D, I’ve emailed each company they rep and told them my experience as well as contacting the 3 month wait company, with screenshots of my order, how they handled it, and the excuse they used to put blame on the company for being so late (package arrived march to D, 4 months to be shipped is on D, not the company). I’m not using company or order details because I know they are petty enough to try to identify me and publicly shame me like they have to others. This and the threat of suing is why not many people like to go public with their experience. They just keep feedback neutral, move on and never deal with again.

6. Listen, I can't take you seriously in regards to BJD!vas because you're posting on a confession blog. If you were serious, you would have posted in buyer beware groups, DoA reviews or the board to get things resolved, or you would have made a complaint to the BBB. And your language makes you come off more as someone with an agenda rather than someone who is trying to warn people. If shipping is the issue, stop buying with standard shipping and pay the extra price for express shipping. I saw one of you complain that it sat with them for 20 days; that's probably because you're not the only one and they more than likely have a queue to check and then ship out. Do mistakes happen? Yes, because we're human. I've been in this hobby for a few years now and it seems like most people know you're going to have to wait, sometimes even outside the expected wait time. And shipping something as big as a doll is a timely endeavor. I shouldn't have to say that.

My point is simply to stop complaining on an confession board and either take it to the places previously mentioned. Posting here behind the anonymous mask makes you sound like a petulant child who didn't get their way right away.

7.My only issue with BJD Divaz is how I never get any updates. Every email, they tell me to join their facebook page for status updates. I dont have a FB and I dont want to create one. I bought my doll through their website, updates should be posted on their website, or they could send me an email. That isnt asking much.

8. Since there seems to be a lot of either "completely negative everything sucks" or "everything was sunshine and rainbows" confessions about bjd!vaz I thought I'd chime in with a neutral review.

PROS

-They were always polite and professional in their emails, and gave me very detailed answers to my questions.

-I got exactly what I ordered, so no mix ups or missing parts or anything like that.

-I think them being forthcoming about personal issues (only one person on staff, illness, the flooding isue etc.) on social media is good, since it keeps customers updated as to why there might be delays.

-If you live in the US their shipping is very reasonable.

CONS

-Reply times were varied. Sometimes it could take over a week, sometimes a couple hours.

-My order took about 10mo which, when comparing to other people who ordered through the same company around the same time, was about 3x as long as if I bought it direct and 2x as long if I had gone through a different dealer. I get some of the waiting time is out of their control, but it was kind of ridiculous.

-They dont necessarily ship the same day they send you a tracking number. I wish they said something like, "Here's your tracking number, our pickup is Xday so it should start moving after that" just so I could be aware.

All in all no major complaints. I got my doll and all that. Their lone employee is clearly overwhelmed. I hope they hire another person, if only to give the one a break.

Truthfully, I most likely won't buy through them again. I'd rather pay the international shipping and go direct, than deal with the extensive wait time. I'd still recommend them to someone looking for a very long layaway, though. I paid in full, but if I had a 12mo layaway I would've never known they weren't ready to ship my doll until month 10.

honestly like, just frying it a bit makes it taste so much better !! literally just fry it in a little oil or just dry if youve got a non stick pan until it’s golden and it will taste much nicer and have a better texture!! it also works if u air fry it which is literally 0 effort lol then u can toss it w some sauce, my favs r good ol barbecue and honey mustard but u can toss it in literally anything

as for actual dishes lol i like frying it with some green peppers, onions and mushrooms with soy sauce and pepper and a lil sugar for a stir fry situation, i usually have that with rice bc i find it tastier but you could mix it with some noodles and boom you’ve got yourself some yakisoba. i’ll usually just add whatever vegetable i get at the weekly feira lmaoo so sometimes there’s kale, cabbage, aubergine in there and they make the tofu taste different too! i also like using it crumbled in place of minced meat, so like i’ll prepare it just like bolognese sauce but with the tofu (so frying onions + celery + carrot + garlic then adding the tofu then tomato/tomato sauce n spicies). if u prefer white sauce with ur pasta then i also recommend blending it with some milk!! MUCH easier than making a roux lmao ALSO i like just adding it shredded to soups kinda like chicken! same base of the bolognese i just add broth instead of the tomato and some other veggies yummmmm

as for buying it LMAO it is expensive but if where u live there’s an expressive asian community then i recommend getting it from asian grocery stores or (even better) from asian producers themselves! you’ll get it for a bit cheaper or even if u get it for around the same price you’ll be getting better quality product! there used to be some lovely ladies where i used to live who came in once a week to sell their tofu and they were so nice and had unbeatable prices 😭 unfortunately where i live now i haven’t found the nice elderly asians yet 🥲 but yeah buy small i’ve found that the supermarkets will sell it for 1.5-2x the price you can find from local producers!!
