Hey hey. What would happen if Cap'n got Masked. Masked Were Eyeless Dog

THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING IDEA... I know for sure I'd want something strange to happen if Cap'n ever got masked.

At first, I was thinking that being an entity makes them immune, but I felt like that'd be a cop out. (I still think entities would be more lenient with Cap'n for the most part since she reeks of "fellow monster" vibes)

So after some discussion, I've come up with an alternate idea: the classic "I'm not stuck in here with you, you're stuck in here with me".

I imagine that the masked left her alone at first, but after a while, they hunted her down and, despite having that dog in her, they overpowered Cap'n (but they got fuuucked up in the process).

And now, unfortunately for them, her weredog brain makes any masked entities around her go bonkers, chasing down employees on all fours and masking them violently. (It'd also be quite unpleasant for the masked as the hivemind is used to swaying those in its influence to do ITS bidding, not the other way around)

However I think it'd be fun if it also inversely affected her weredog form. When Cap'n turns, the hivemind suppresses the noise that easily irritates it and makes it more of a hunting dog, bringing employees to other masked to have them be turned.

But yeah the tl;dr is Cap'n makes mimics act more like dogs, the mimics make the weredog act more like a mimic!

For anyone looking to make their own Persona AUs, the Shin Megami Tensei wiki is honestly one of the better places to research the recurring tropes of various social links (ie, the Magician typically being the Protagonist's first male friend, the Justice typically being prone to anger). Do note that because of the nature of the Persona and SMT franchises you'll find potentially triggering content, so do tread lightly!

and this is a good time to bring up actually: if my talking about persona has made you interested in playing, yay! they’re super cool and fun games! HOWEVER, they have some pretty big content warnings on them. (here the content warnings are for p3/p4/p5; I would be shocked if these themes aren’t in p1/p2, but I haven’t played those.)

all three games have at least some mentions/relevant sexual assault

all three games have scenes of severe bullying

all three games discuss suicide

all three games have death, including major character death, as a theme, with persona 3 having death be its MAIN theme.

all three games have some elements of institutionalized abuse as part of their story

familial/child abuse is also in at least one social link in all three games, and is a major plot point in at least p3 and p5.

mental health in general is a major theme of all three games.

all three games have some element of unreality as a theme.

additionally, while the above are the things I think atlus would say they intentionally put in as heavy themes, persona also has some… “jokes”… that it is irresponsible to make a recommendation without mentioning.

atlus tends to use the “predatory gay man” and “predatory trans woman” bit for laughs. yes, I’m sorry, in all three games, although I was pleasantly surprised to see they’d actually removed that from persona 3 in p3 reload! but it’s in one scene in p5, and in p4 it’s… complicated. one of the lead characters is gay, and part of his character arc is about internalized homophobia. however, another character will make statements like he’s scared to share a tent with him, which is never treated as justified but IS treated as a “joke”, on account of the character doing the homophobia being a comic relief character. additionally, naoto’s character arc can easily be read as transphobic (as naoto needing to accept being a woman rather than a man), although I know different people have different reactions to this arc. p4 is my favorite but it is NOT a recommendation I give without content warnings for a reason.

also, while p4 as a game is well aware of the amount of violence against women in it and the bad guy who does it is a nihilist and a loser, it is a major plot point, and it’s not always treated with grace.

also, all three games notoriously have at least one “comedy relief” scene of the guys picking up women and honestly it’s normally more like, anime cringe than actually misogynistic but it feels like I should bring it up?

also in both p3 and p5 there are social links that can lead to you flirting with your teacher. yeah. it’s avoidable but it’s sure there.

overall: REALLY GOOD GAMES, and when the writing is good in them it’s REALLY GOOD. they’re also consistently games that people who otherwise wouldn’t be into an 100-hour jrpgs end up realizing why people like the genre with! but they are ALSO games where the content warnings here are warranted!

Haha, these are fun! I think people have brought up the PQ2 codenames before in suggestions for what codenames returning characters might be given, but this list feels even more thorough re: nicknames, and the ones that just come from their names (like our Phantom Idols in P5X canon) are a nice touch, too.

Though I have a feeling some of them might push back on some of these (ex. "Geezer" for Junpei, "Kenny" for Ken, "Hana" for Yosuke, haha)! That makes them all the more fun, though.

Alternate; Spider-Fiend 2099?

So. Might have gotten a little carried away. Also consider this a Spider-Fiend reveal because I'm like 99% sure I've never posted his design anywhere:

I actually think a 2099 variant would be super interesting - because I think he'd still have an organic suit that Mordred (demon buddy the name is definitely going to change) gave him.

All his villains and some allies too would probably have really high tech suits so when a villain goes to hack his suit he just starts laughing because he's immune to any of that. I think the themes of technology vs nature (if you want to call demon stuff nature) would be a really cool topic to explore :]

Few notes on the 2099 design:

Even though it's an organic suit, it has a neon light glow effect. This is so that he blends in better with the overall environment - as I imagine his city (I forget the name 💀) would have a lot of neon lights. And yes it is Tron inspired.

The webs he would shoot would be that same neon purple.

The logo didn't turn out too well admittedly (there are few things I want to fix but for a first pass I'm happy with this) but it's supposed to be the same as the one on the left just sleeker and has less detail.

The horns and tail don't actually glow.

I feel like he'd be a bit more serious in Universe 805 - 2099 (temporary name) and so his eyes would be less expressive than his original variant (similar to how Miguel is a little less expressive in the movie)

This actually applies to both variants but Fiend tends to go out at night a lot more hence the dark designs. I also in general prefer when spiderman designs are more on the simple side (think venom spiderman) so that's why both only have two colours (black and purple)!

Black and purple are his colours because a) black = blends in more at night and in general is more intimidating and b) purple = not a colour found a lot in nature so it fits his otherworldly demon powers. I also like purple.

I know a spiderman variant with a tail might be a bit weird but it adds to the silhouette and gives him more of a demonic vibe overall imo!

One of the reasons why Ken is one of my favorite P3 characters is because his character breaks are so jarring compared to everyone else. Like yeah, here's this kid! He's smart and studious, acts mature for his age, likes coffee and milk, idolizes Akihiko, etc.

Obviously you quickly learn that he's bad at keeping up the front of maturity. He ADORES Featherman, gets pouty when Makoto doesn't want to take him to the movie festival, he hates coffee, he's lactose intolerant and only drinks milk so he can get taller...

And then he starts getting secretive. Ah. He's driven entirely by revenge and is plotting murder-suicide. And when that doesn't work out. He allows himself to get killed. Only Shinjiro, the man who Ken was about to kill, sacrifices himself to save his would-be murderer.

Ken is an amazing character and I fucking love the little guy. He's like if Akechi got the help he needed.

I just REALLY wish that every conversation about him on the internet didn't eventually go into that part of P3P.

Yeah it sucks that it's overshadowed because iirc the rest of his social link is good beyond that!
