i think when most people think of the term child abuse, they might think of physical abuse done to children.

while any kind of mistreatment that happens to children is abuse, i think we should use the term “child discrimination,” as well,

or youth discrimination

so people would know & realize more that children get discriminated against in other ways besides physical abuse.

it should be common sense that a kid shouldn't have to do everything their parent says because “they’re the parent, and they're the child.”

i am telling you, they're both human beings with the same human rights.

there should be reason, and negotiation.

it should be common sense that parents being able to force their kids to go anywhere without their consent is problematic.

anyway, it is literally normal for a parent to treat their kid like a f*cking kidnapper would treat a person they were “in love” with.

keep track of their internet, make sure they're not “consuming anything they shouldn't”, feed them when or whatever they want to feed them, force them to spend "quality time" with them,

but they really could use the excuse, “it's all because i love you,” to get away with it.

and adultists just blindly go with it because they're a child. like that part’s not supposed to set alarms off.

the adult supremacy needs to be dismantled. this is why we need youth liberation.

so I am back to the working week today.

it’s a psychotherapy day and I have a lot of LGBTQIA+ clients.

so i spend quite a lot of time listening to the stories of being scared, rejected, left etc. and all this makes me so sad and angry. and i remember how it felt to be me when i was like 13 or even 18 y.o. and there were nobody around to take as a role model or at least to talk to. when i was struggling to understand my sexuality and how to live with it there was no youtube content or social networks. but even with all these internet possibilities so many people are still afraid to be who they are. afraid to tell family and friends. and i guess one of my main ideas now is to talk to people and give ‘em support and be the type of person i missed for years while growing up

the one “reasonable” excuse i can think of for this is “b-but they could cyberbully!”

you could literally do the same thing—i bet you're teaching parents how to be as abusive as you right now! but no one can just track you.

parental supervision programs are evil. tracking everything your partner or friend does online with a program would be considered horrific and unequivocally abusive, so why do parents get to do it? why do they get to act like they have the right to decide exactly what their child is allowed to do on the internet. fuck parental controls and parental supervision programs.

More than half of non-binary youth in Canada are avoiding team sports due to discrimination, with only 11 per cent of non-binary youth currently participating, new research from Simon Fraser University has found. According to the first-of-its-kind 2023 Canadian Non-Binary Youth in Sport Report, 66 per cent of non-binary youth have avoided joining an organized team sport because they would have to play on a gendered men’s or women’s team, with four in five fearing locker room layouts. More than half the participants who currently play team sports have also witnessed discriminatory comments, and more than 16 per cent have witnessed physical harassment because of a person’s gender as well, the study found. “We see in our numbers that there is a lot of exclusion and discrimination occurring in sport,” lead author Martha Gumprich told Global News. “We know that physical activity is can improve someone’s mental and physical health, and this is especially important for the LGBTQ+ community. As we know, they have worse mental health outcomes than those who are heterosexual or cisgender. By making sport safer for everyone, everyone benefits.”

youth liberationists don't talk enough about religious abuse and how it affects kids.

like, in general from what i see in the tag #religious abuse; literally almost only adult victims talking about their abused childhood.

but if they do, they only talk about blatant abuse in religious abuse: SA and physical.

07.30.24, edit: there's also “hidden” abuse, like literal abduction & indoctrination.

and it's just inhumane privilege allowing it. it's basic human indecency to abduct children, whoever the fuck you may be to the kid. especially to churches to convert them; OR to just keep them there, for whatever reason, for however long! it's indecent!

for me, i have PTSD from being heavily brainwashed with Christianity as a younger kid. but this is still a problem. this should be a crime.

I no longer live in the UK. I was one of the many European migrant workers that left because of Brexit. The environment was hostile, the whole settlement scheme was giving dejavú of the Windrush scandal. Residency was now dependent on work visas, citizenship no longer attainable.

If you still live in the UK do your utmost to keep the tories out. Jacob Rees Mogg does not have your best interest at heart, his businesses are not even located in the UK. Boris Johnson got his French passport while he was pushing for Brexit. They’ve trashed the country to let you living in rubbles while they have a escape route.

Former foster youth who aged out of care are a marginalized group, but they’re rarely acknowledged as a demographic with specific needs and political concerns. Unlike racial minorities or LGBT communities—who have organized advocacy groups, visibility in media, and political backing—former foster youth are often invisible in policy discussions.

When foster youth are mentioned in politics, it’s often in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes (e.g., crime, mental illness) rather than discussing how systemic failures contribute to their struggles.

Many politicians support foster care “reform” in a vague, surface-level way but don’t actually center the voices of those who have lived through the system.

Former foster youth should be seen as a distinct political demographic, much like veterans, immigrants, or other groups whose experiences shape their policy needs. Advocacy and awareness campaigns could push this forward, but the challenge is getting people to care about an issue they’ve largely ignored.
