Femme Fatale Guide: How To Master An "Effortlessly Elegant" & Put-Together Look
Table of Contents:
Treat your skin like royalty
Take ample care of your natural hair
Dress in crisp neutral outfits that cater to your body shape
Choose your accessories wisely
Embrace feature-enhancing makeup
Keep your nails clean, filed, and simple
Regarding your signature scent(s)
Follow your dental & bodily hygiene routines religiously
Treat your skin like royalty:
Use high-quality skincare twice a day
Wear sunscreen every day
Remove your makeup every night before bed no matter what
Use makeup that doesn't clog your pores/irritate your skin
Change your pillowcases weekly
Eat plenty of produce & drink lots of water
Prioritize sleep
Limit or eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, and processed foods/sugary drinks
Keep your skin exfoliated/derma-planed
Take ample care of your natural hair:
Use high-quality shampoo/conditioner combos that suit your hair type & don't cause build-up
Hydrate with a scalp mask 1-4 times a month
Use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair
Apply shampoo to the roots/hair covering your scalp and conditioner only on the "ponytail" section of your hair
Use a specialty hair towel after getting out of the shower
Always comb wet hair and brush 1-3 times a day when dry
Limit heat on your hair when possible & always use a heat protectant every time you do
Use non-elastic or silk hair ties
Get regular trims at least 3-4 times per year (get your hair layered if it's very thick)
Try to limit how much you dye or, especially bleach, your hair and do elaborate styles with tons of heat & harsh products
Dress in crisp neutral outfits that cater to your body shape:
Embrace minimalist basics (tees, tanks, blouses, sweaters, jeans, trousers, blazers, leather jackets, coats, etc.) in high-quality fabrics (Pima cotton, Merino wool, Tencel, mulberry silk, etc.)
Choose options in black, white, grey, charcoal beige, navy, burgundy, or cream depending on your skin tone and preferences
Invest in a collection of sleek footwear options (black boots, loafers, black pumps, white sneakers, etc.) in minimalist, timeless styles that suit the color palette, hemlines & proportions of your go-to outfits
Ensure your shoes and accessories feel proportional to the weight/silhouette of your outfit, color-coordinate with the rest of your look, and have streamlined hardware from head-to-toe (all silver, all gold, or one piece that mixes silver/gold and another gold & silver piece each to balance out the color palette)
Keep all of your clothes steam and lint-rolled, so they look crisp & fresh all-day
Befriend your tailor to take in or let out clothes as needed when purchased off the rack
Choose clothes/styles that flatter your body shape and proportions
Utilize belts and bra tape to adjust the waist, keep shirts tucked in, and keep straps from falling down or create an impromptu cuff/hem on your pants
When in doubt, select a neutral head-to-toe monochrome outfit
If on a budget, consider choosing black, grey, camel beige items to hide fabric imperfections that could cheapen your look
Choose your accessories wisely:
Select sleek, simple neutral (& almost exclusively) monochrome shoes made with smooth (recycled/vegan) leather with
Pair almost any outfit with a shoe featuring a slight platform, block heel, kitten heel, and/or a sharply pointed toe to elongate your silhouette
Complement your outfit with structured, pared-back handbags with no logos (Focus on quality and construction, not the brand name) in a neutral shade and timeless silhouette
For jewelry, choose at most one statement piece and all others should be focused on different areas of the body (e.g. don't mix statement earrings with layered/bold necklaces or stacked rings * bracelets). When in doubt, choose simple diamond chains or earrings, sleek bangles or chainlink necklaces & bracelets, simple pendant necklaces, and minimalist rings in hardware that all go together
Embrace feature-enhancing makeup:
Cover up any dark circles, blemishes, or hyperpigmentation with a color-matched concealer
Lightly contour with a bronzer that complements your skin tone
Fill in your brows for a naturally full look (or get them professionally tinted)
Apply a light wash of rose, coral, or mauve blush
Use black mascara with a little bit of eyeliner and/or a subtle wash of brown eyeshadow on the lids
Apply a "your lips but better" nude shade or "just kissed' berry lipstick or pigmented lip balm for a subtle wash of color
Keep your nails clean, filed, and simple:
Maintain cut, cleaned, and filed short nails
Opt for a square or almond nail shape
Choose a timeless nail shade (pink, nude, red, beige, dark cherry, navy, dark purple, black) with no nail art
Hydrate your hands and scrub under your nails daily
Regarding your signature scent(s):
Ensure your body wash/lotion and perfume scents don't clash
Test perfumes for a trial day to ensure they smell divine with your unique pheromones
Choose a fragrance appropriate for the seasonal/occasion
Apply a dab on each wrist and on your neck/behind the ears. If the scent doesn't project well on you, try applying these small dabs on the cuffs and shoulders of your jacket/walk into it to get it on your hair (if it would stain your clothes)
Don't layer more than one heady perfume at a time or scents that don't have complementary and/or shared notes
Follow your dental & bodily hygiene routines religiously:
Floss every day (after each meal if possible)
Brush your teeth with an electric toothbrush twice a day
Have mints on hand if you're a garlic, spice, or coffee lover
Keep your lips & hands well-moisturized and protected with SPF
Shower your body daily and be extra diligent in scrubbing your privates, everything behind, and under your arms
Don't use very hot water in the shower (it burns/dries out your skin)
Exfoliate 2-3 times a week with a sugar scrub
Moisturize daily or anytime you get out of the shower
Apply SPF on any exposed sun (especially in the summer or when the UV index is high in your area)

Primal Chic Beauty: Making The Switch To A Less Intensive, More Earth Based Hygiene and Beauty Ritual
Before we begin, let's talk about the basic tennants before I explain the swaps I made and the products I love:
Less is More: The biggest part of the Primal Chic beauty routine is it's simplicity and minimalism. I don't want you to read this post, dump all of your current skincare and makeup into the garbage just to go out and buy the things I talk about here. Use up what you already have and make the switch gradual.
Clean Clean Clean: We want to be utilizing products without harsh chemicals & unethically sourced components. The easiest way to tell if something is on or off the list is their ingredient transparency. Especially with cosmetics. Avoid unneccessary fragrances, dyes, colorants, and preservatives, and aim for things like Cruelty Free, Paraben Free, Sulfate Free, and Triclosan free. Aim for companies that are transparent about their supply chains, both for the labor in creating them, and in their ingredient sourcing. I also prefer women owned and family owned brands rather than the "clean" lines of bigger companies.
Be Smart About Animal Products: Personally, as someone with a soy allergy, I'm a big fan of certain animal products in my skin and beauty rituals, Goat's Milk Soaps, Beef Tallow hair masks, Honey & Yogurt face masks, etc. However, while I am a proponent of using the entire animal, make sure you're checking the sourcing of these products as some companies are more ethical than others. I'm lucky in that I live fairly close to the Amish and therefore have access to a certain amount of local agriculture that others may not have access to. If you're buying from an unknown company or farm, drop them a line to see where they're sourcing their animal products from. The more ethical companies rarely have an issue explaining (and bragging) about the welfare of their source animals. Things we definately want to avoid though are things like Shark Liver Oil (certain Squalene), Ambergis (whale stomach lining), and Castoreum (artificial vanilla flavor/scent produced from the castor sacs of beavers located near the anal glands). If you want to save yourself the hassle, Vegan skincare is an option, just be sure to keep an eye out for allergens like Soy or Mushroom Enzymes.
Now, let's talk about some of the Primal Chic changes in my own beauty routine:
Old Face Routine:
Oil Cleanser
Regular Cleanser
Scrub
Toner
Oil
Eye Cream
Targeted Treatments
retnoids
Moisturizer
Neck and Chest Cream
Sunscreen
Foundation
Concealer
Blush
Highlight
Contour
Bronzer
Eyeshadow
Eyebrow Gel
Eyeliner Pen & Pencil
Mascara
finishing powder
finishing spray
New Face Routine:
Castile Soap
Miracle Balm
Almond Oil as needed for dry-flaky patches
Sunscreen
Pink Color Balm/ Multistick (Eyes, Cheeks, Lips)
Mascara
Eyeliner Pencil if I'm feeling fancy
That's it. The really crazy thing about it too? I had more acne, dryness, irritation, and inflamation with the old routine. I did have about 2 weeks of acne after making the switch as my skin adjusted but I haven't struggled with major skin issues since. Part of it was cutting back on the amount of makeup I was wearing, as a full beat vs a little blush and eyemakeup with a lip is a lot less product on the skin. Part of it was not creating new issues for myself by trying to treat the old issues with harsh chemicals. I also cut out a lot of fragrances from my skincare, with my only scented skincare product left being my sunscreen since I don't seem to have any reactions to Sun Bum's products. My used up makeup containers I take to my local health foods store to be recycled by Terracycle.
Old Shower Routine:
Pre-wash oil
Shampoo
Scalp Scrub
Conditioning Mask
Conditioner
Soap on the body
Body Gel
Body Scrub
Body Oil
Shaving cream
Lotion
Body Mist
Perfume
Deoderant
New Shower Routine:
Castile Soap for hair, body, & shaving
Occassional Home Made Sugar Scrub
Almond Oil (2 drops worked through the ends of my hair, then worked across the body)
Occassional use of cocoa butter on knees, hands, feet, & ankles
Deoderant (I still use a conventional Dove deoderant)
I save so much time, my showers are maybe 10 minutes long if I'm not shaving that day, and 20 minutes tops when I do a little trimming. I also switched from disposable heads to an old-school single blade safety razor. Also, rather than investing in chemical exfoliants I switched to dry brushing and body scrapers/ gua shas to exfoliate and massage.
Most of the products I use I can buy in bulk from my local low/zero waste store and simply store in mason jars rather than continually add to plastic production and disposal which is hard on the environment. Dr Bronner's soaps come in paper refill cartons as well for your original plastic bottle, or, if you have a dry shelf in your shower, you can simply buy the paper carton and skip most of the plastic all together.
We're also in an era where there are more resources than ever on creating your own, at home, grooming and hygiene products where you have complete control over the ingredients that go into them. I used to be super into soap making however as I went back into school and started my full time job, I found I didn't have time for all of my hobbies and it became one of the ones on the chopping block. You could also use shampoo & conditioner bars packaged in paper. A growing number of regular grocery stores such as Giant, Wegmans, or Shoprite have a natural hygiene care section near their pharmacies or other hygiene sections, and there's usually atleast one soap maker at arts fairs and farmers markets in more metropolitian areas.
I think, as part of our respect for Earth & our environment it's worth asking what we can do to limit our harm to the planet in pursuit of vanity.

Very random but do you have any headcanons about Itachi and by extension Shisui's lifestyle in the modern era? For example, would they use Android or Iphone, or what sort of food preferences they would have like gluten free or vegan? Or what about their workout regimen? Not to mention, the kind of shampoo they would use (sorry if that's too specific)
I personally see Itachi as a very reticent person who would thrive in marathon training outside of any combat training. Do you have any opinions about that or anything related to Itachi headcanons in general?
In the modern AU, I see Itachi going through the same kind of things he does in canon, but on a lesser scale. His dynamic with his family and Shisui would be more or less the same.
Itachi is the Android person. He doesn't like showing off and is content with the simpler things in life. He is vegetarian. Shisui doesn't mind eggs and some seafood.
His favourite person is Sasuke. Obviously. But Shisui is up close as well. There were times in Itachi's life when he had no idea what was going on and Shisui stood beside him. Itachi is always thankful for that.
The only thing Itachi doesn't compromise with is his hair. So, he regularly does shampoo and uses conditioner on his hair. Shisui doesn't really care about his own and if he's running out of time, he doesn't mind using washing powder on his hair either.
Itachi is definitely introverted. Though since in the modern world he might not be training rigorously because he's not a ninja, he'll spend a lot of time studying.
He reads Kafka, Murakami, Plath, Dazai, Dostoevsky, Nabokov, and Camus a lot. Shisui tries to get him to read something else as well but Itachi gets bored of his recs real soon. Shisui and he argue a lot on the kind of books they like. Sasuke just stays out of their arguments because he's more of a comic book person. His arguments tend to be with Naruto the most. And they're never on the same page.
Itachi has a strained relationship with his parents. It's not too bad, but he feels uncomfortable whenever he's home. He knows he's loved, but he can't bring himself to be comfortable with his parents around. His strict father and his mom being an ideal wife have contributed a lot to him being inexpressive. Being a genius, a prodigy, best at everything is tiring. Everyone thinks he's having the best of all worlds, but in fact, he sometimes breaks down because he can't handle it. As if he's not allowed to fail. He wants his parents to be proud of him.
He knows he's the best at what he does. It's not outright arrogance but confidence that shows in his persona. He always ends up stealing the limelight, no matter who the object of centre is meant to be. It occasionally causes a rift between him and Sasuke. No, Sasuke doesn't say it out loud, but Itachi understands that Itachi stealing the attention that Sasuke deserved hurt his little brother. He hates seeing Sasuke sad because of him. Once he understands what is wrong, Itachi always removes himself from the picture, making last minute excuses why he can't make it. It happens with him and Shisui too. But Shisui tries to make him understand that he doesn't mind it and it isn't his fault. Though Itachi won't listen. He doesn't like being inconvenience to the people he loves.
Itachi is Sasuke's rock. Every time Sasuke needs something or wants someone to root for him, he always has Itachi's support. What he doesn't realize is that Itachi needs his support just as much. Itachi finds dinners with his parents comfortable only when Sasuke is around. Sasuke talks a lot, and that's therapeutic for Itachi. Sasuke's presence makes his life so much easier.
Both the brothers sometimes have heart-to-heart with each other. Sasuke mostly rants about his life and Itachi offers his opinions and suggestions, most of them work out for Sasuke. Sasuke wants to know about Itachi too and Itachi has no idea what to say about himself and his life. He doesn't want to burden Sasuke with all that he feels. Not that Sasuke doesn't manage to get some answers out of Itachi. He's understood that asking his older brother questions directly won't help. So he beats around the bush a lot until Itachi begins to speak.
One day when their parents were out of town, Sasuke managed to pry some answers out of his brother, and was horrified to know that the Itachi Uchiha had struggles too.
Ever since they were kids, Shisui would come over to the Uchiha household for sleepovers. And when Mikoto and Fugaku fell asleep, all three kids would indulge in pillow fights. Sasuke and Shisui would gang up on Itachi because that's one of those things that draw some reaction out of Itachi.

what Haikyuu characters smell like
…. because i’m sick of the sandalwood - vanilla bullshit, they're all in high school, they all smell like Axe or sweat
Hinata Shouyou
doesn't shower, but probably still has baby sweat so he doesn't stink
Kageyama Tobio
smells like Nivea cream. Very clean, very nice but also big baby vibes
Tsukishima Kei
showers with what his mom packed him so probably some organic oat-scented shit
Yamaguchi Tadashi
actually cares about his products and smells nice for a teenager but nobody notices
Ennoshita Chikara
Axe. Because everyone is using it, not because he thinks it's cool.
Nishinoya Yuu
doesn't shower. Also Axe.
Tanaka Ryuunosuke
showers sometimes, but only when his sister says that he stinks. Axe.
Azumane Asahi
one of the only people that actually smell attractive. definitely had an Axe phase in middle school tho.
Sugawara Koushi
the only one on the team with a fresh shirt every practice, smells like fresh laundry
Sawamura Daichi
dad smell, like 3 in 1 hair, body, face and working in the garage
Iwaizumi Hajime
responsible adult, has a nice cologne and doesn't use too much of it, just enough. buys body wash in bulk because it’s cheaper and more convenient.
Oikawa Tooru
smells like everything. has a nice (in his opinion) perfume, strongly scented floral body wash, citrusy shampoo and coconut body butter. he is living his best life but everyone has to deal with his smell that enters the room before he does.
Matsukawa Issei & Hanamaki Takahiro
bought Axe and “manly man” body wash for shits and giggles and “ironically” use them. but in the end they still smell like Axe. also yes they bought one of each and share everything.
Yahaba Shigeru
easily impressed by Oikawa, also experiments with different smells but thankfully he’s more subtle with it
Kyoutani Kentarou
Axe.
Terushima Yuuji
Axe.
Aone Takanobu
nice, subtle scent, smells cozy.
Ushijima Wakatoshi
soap is soap, so also Axe.
Tendou Satori
either washes with just water or has a very specific and complicated hair care routine. there is no inbetween. smells like sandalwood and no one knows why.
Shirabu Kenjirou
Axe.
Daishou Suguru
you would think he’s edgy and different, but deep down we all know he uses Axe.
Miya Atsumu
Axe. He is THE prime Axe user. if someone thinks it's cool and manly it's Miya Atsumu.
Miya Osamu
Axe. but one of the milder ones
Suna Rintarou
doesn’t care. Axe.
Haiba Lev
stole his dads fancy cologne, which would be nice and all if he didn’t shower with a chocolate-scented body wash.
Kozume Kenma
long haired gamer. doesn’t shower. probably borrows deodorant from someone on the team because he didn’t pack any and doesn’t care how he smells. so Axe.
Yamamoto Taketora
doesn’t shower. Axe.
Kuroo Tetsurou
token “manly highschooler smell”. overuses Calvin Klein cologne. but shower gel? Axe. ironically watches the alpha male self care routines but secretly notes the shit down.
Yaku Morisuke
buys his products in those mom shops, all his products smell nice like lavender, jasmine or cotton and are vegan, clean and non-gmo.
Akaashi Keiji
takes care of himself. uses basic products, but has a separate product for everything, doesn’t believe in the 3 in 1 (actually uses a conditioner and face wash). smells like he showers regularly so the rest of the team is greatly impressed.
Bokuto Koutarou
Axe. douses himself with the deodorant. definitely had a tutti frutti phase in the past 2 years.
Sakusa Kiyoomi
rubbing alcohol, uses only hypoallergenic, non-scented products.
Yachi Hitoka
bought a strawberry-scented soap because it looked really cute. doesn’t like the scent at all but still uses it because she is anxious to tell her mom to get her a new one.
Shimizu Kiyoko
smells very feminine, uses fancier brands with floral smells.
Ukai Keishin
cigarettes. bought cologne to impress women but rarely uses it.
Takeda Ittetsu
laundry detergent. always has clean clothes and changes often.

*Looking for skincare recs 😘
My Enbrel injections have helped with my inflammatory arthritis and has actually improved some of the side effects from methotrexate but with one caveat. I’m developing some mild psoriasis symptoms (diagnosed by my doctor) so I need to put a little extra effort into my skincare.
Besides using aquaphor to combat the psoriasis, I was finally able to figure out I’m reacting to shea butter. Which totally makes sense bc I also have oral allergy syndrome with several latex related foods. The problem is that some of my favorite products have shea butter so if anyone has any recommendations let me know.
HERE’S WHAT I NEED TO REPLACE (no shea butter / preferably vegan but can include beeswax / formulated with sensitive dry or combination skin / I’m light skinned and I don’t wear makeup so it doesn’t have to be tinted or worry about layering but lightweight and matte sunscreen is preferred)
Matte Facial Sunscreen (preferably mineral although I might have to branch branch out into chemical spf if I find something worth trying) REPLACEMENT FOR BARE REPUBLIC MATTE FACE SPF 30
SPF Lip Balm REPLACEMENT FOR JACK BLACK SPF LIP BALM
Natural Deodorant REPLACEMENT FOR NATIVE COCONUT DEODORANT
PRODUCTS THAT CURRENTLY WORK:
Vanicream shampoo, conditioner, face wash, vitamin c serum (which I used as a moisturizer but I’m switching it out for the BYOMA products that are slightly gentler)
BYOMA face mist toner, clarifying serum or hydrating serum, moisturizing gel cream, hydrating body wash
Naturium Cleansing Oil for removing sunscreen
Lazarus Natural CBD products for pain including recovery cream and balm stick
Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Ointment for psoriasis management unfortunately the lip spf has shea :(
Corn starch based powder deodorant. I was using Pretty Frank until the discontinued it and switched to Happy Curves

Fresh Start: A Teenage Girl’s Clean Hygiene Routine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maintaining good hygiene is essential for teenage girls and young women to feel confident, healthy, and empowered. Here's a comprehensive clean hygiene routine tailored specifically for us:
1. Daily Shower or Bath:
- Use a mild, pH-balanced body wash or soap to cleanse the entire body, paying extra attention to areas prone to sweat and odor, such as underarms and feet.
- Gently exfoliate the skin 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils.
2. Hair Care:
- Wash hair 2-3 times a week with a sulfate-free shampoo suitable for your hair type (dry, oily, curly, etc.).
- Use a conditioner after shampooing to moisturize and detangle hair, focusing on the ends.
- Limit the use of heat styling tools and protect hair from damage by using a heat protectant spray before styling.
- Trim split ends regularly to maintain healthy hair growth.
3. Facial Cleansing:
- Wash your face twice daily, morning and night, with a gentle facial cleanser suitable for your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, acne-prone, etc.).
- Use lukewarm water and avoid harsh scrubbing, which can irritate the skin.
- Apply a non-comedogenic moisturizer after cleansing to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness.
4. Dental Care:
- Brush teeth at least twice a day, morning and night, using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and along the gum line.
- Rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash for added freshness and to kill bacteria.
- Visit the dentist for regular check-ups and professional cleanings every six months.
5. Feminine Hygiene:
- Change sanitary pads or tampons every 4-6 hours during menstruation to maintain freshness and prevent odor.
- Wash the genital area with a mild, fragrance-free soap and water daily, paying attention to hygiene during menstruation.
- Use breathable cotton underwear and avoid tight-fitting clothing to promote air circulation and prevent moisture buildup.
6. Nail Care:
- Keep nails trimmed and filed to prevent breakage and maintain a neat appearance.
- Clean under the nails regularly to remove dirt and bacteria.
- Apply a moisturizing hand cream to keep hands soft and hydrated.
- Avoid biting or picking at nails and cuticles to prevent infection and damage.
7. Deodorant and Antiperspirant:
- Apply a deodorant or antiperspirant daily to underarms to control sweat and odor.
- Choose a product that suits your body's needs and preferences, whether it's a roll-on, stick, or spray.
8. Sun Protection:
- Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to exposed skin daily, even on cloudy days.
- Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if swimming or sweating heavily.
- Wear protective clothing, such as hats and sunglasses, and seek shade during peak sun hours to minimize sun exposure.
Remember, good hygiene goes beyond physical cleanliness—it also involves taking care of your mental and emotional well-being. Practice self-care, prioritize sleep, eat a balanced diet, stay hydrated, and engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. By incorporating these habits into your daily routine, you'll not only look and feel your best but also cultivate a healthy lifestyle for years to come.

(asking you as an expert in insanely interesting facts 👀)
An extinct species of giant owls that lived on the Hawaiian islands that scientists have never seen, only can presume from fossils
There’s a Portuguese dessert called Malasadas that migrated to the Hawaiian islands long enough ago that they’ve become ingrained into the culture. You can find them at bakeries and tons of food trucks. They’re like beignets but bigger (fried dough, sometimes with a filling, covered in powdered sugar and served hot).
Also, which I’ve probably said many times enough to annoy people, there’s a tick l called AlphaGal that makes you allergic to a sugar called, well, alpha-gal. It’s oversimplified as making you allergic to red meats, which is true, but the alpha-gal sugar is also found in gelatins, gummies, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, dairy, sauces— and, ironically, medicines, including creams and antihistamines for allergies. A hospital almost killed my mother for giving her medicine for an allergic reaction only for it to cause her to immediately go into anaphylactic shock. You basically have to change to vegan everything just to get away from meat byproducts.
There is a push in some US states to require food labels to include it as an allergen, or at least list it in the ingredients as a red meat byproduct. A few years ago there was development into bioengineering pork that didn’t contain the alpha-gal sugar, though there were some protests about animal cruelty.
Alpha-gal is also linked to rejected organ transplants/implants. Alpha-gal patients are disproportionately more likely to have their surgeries rejected, either due to transplants coming from pigs (whose anatomy is remarkably similar to ours) or complications with medicines, or in the case of a donor, those organs containing traces of the alpha-gal sugar.

ran errands with my dad and now I’ve got new shampoo and conditioner and some vegan lemon raspberry cupcakes and an aldi quarter keychain and the ingredients for dinner tomorrow! And leg pain from walking around everywhere. But it was worth it.
