So Hunter: the Parenting is set in 2006 Norfolk, England. And we have some characters ages, so we can do Math

Boy: Boy is eleven. This means he was most likely born in 1995.

Door: Having a elevenyearold son means Door is at minimum in his twenties (which would be kind of yikes). Taking what I would consider a fairly reasonable and realistic timeframe for a normal human to have kids in (somewhere between 20 and 50), Door in current Htp would be somewhere between 30 and 60, tough he could be older if he isn‘t a normal human. Now, Door also talks about his old mining days. So he seems to have had a whole career several years ago (possibly before having boy), making it more likely for him to be somewhere between 40 and 60, which also matches up decently well with his appearence in the flashbacks to 1988

Marckus: He‘s thirty, so probally born in 1976.

Kitten: Iirc he‘s 32, so likely born in 1974

Kevin: He‘s 27. I‘m not sure if that means he was born in 1979 or if he was turned/dies at 27 and was born earlier, but since D get‘s his age from a ID, the first option is more likely. Which means Kevin had a very busy life so far and also apartements in the 2000s were really cheap if someone can afford on in their early twenties

Horse: D tells a story about going to a speakeasy with horse. Assuming he doesn‘t just mean a bar that‘s styled to look old and isn‘t lying, this means that Horse has been with the family since the 1920s to early 1930s, but possibly since the 1880s

Big D: He is probally the most interesting one and there are also several options for his age. Option 1: Just ignoring everything D has said. For this we take Dorn‘s likely age of 40 to 60 and add our reasonable and realistice ages to have a child at, which gives us a possible age-range for D as beeing between 60 and 110. Definetly possible with a but of magic bullshittery that makes him look younger Option 2: Believing that D has been hunting since the 90s. This puts his latest possible birthyear at 1899, assuming getting carried around while his caregivers hunt counts as hunting, since we know he has been hunting since before the 1990s (the thing with Anton happend in 1988 after all and the family has been hunting since a while before that). Tough Calenders accurate enough to date something this precisely have existed since about the second millenium BCE, so D could be pretty old while still getting this factoid correct (assuming he did the math correctly). Option 3: The 90s-factoid is wrong and D is very ancient. In which case like, Homo Sapiens has been around for 200‘000 years and there were other human species before that. So for any closer, tough still very rough, estimate I‘d need D‘s skull and/or DNA. Tough even just a quick questionaire about like how well he tolerates lactose and wheter he straigthens his hair would be quite helpfull I think my favorite option would be for D to have been born within like the last 200 to 500 years, so he‘s definetly unusually old and has way more experience than a regular human, but like he isn‘t unreasonably, has been there for most of human history, barely comprehandable how old he is old

So how old is Odysseus exactly?

A small Odysseus age analysis based on a description in the Iliad

Many make speculations of his age, me included. Interestingly we have several hints in both art and the scripts but is hard to pinpoint. In general Odysseus is considered old or one of the oldest generations among the poems.

In art he is always depicted bearded which is something only men in maturity have in ancient greek art (somewhere between the late 20s early 30s) and his beard is full indicating that he is at least in his 30s. Most art of his, ranges from the events of the Trojan war till his journey and the murder of the suitors. In all cases we see him having a full beard. So it is pretty hard to determine his age but we know he was at least 30 in the war making him at his final 40s or early 50s when he comes back home depending on interpretation.

In the Iliad in the 23rd rhapsody/book we have an interesting description by Antilochus

"And this one (Odysseus) is of an earlier/previous generation of earlier men; we call him "omogeronda" (early-old man, green old age); yet he is really hard to be competed against in speed (lit: his feet are troublesome to compete) by the Achaeans, except from Achilles"

For starters he clearly states that he is "one generation older" (προτέρης γενεής) but he also calls him with the interesting word "ωμογέρων" which means "raw old man" literally aka "not ripe old age". The word has two possible interpretations; one that he is a "green old man" aka he just began to grow older or to pass to old age and two "a vigorous and lively old man" 😉

Now it could be a tender nickname that they call him "old" but I think the first interpretation fits better to the description. So we know that Odysseus was already mature man when he entered the war (bearded=somewhere in his early 30s and above) and he spent 10 years in the war. We know that he is "one generation older".

The age of marriage differs in ancient greece (for example in 5th century BC Athens, 300 years after Homer's time and almost 1000 years after the time Trojan war took place, the age of marriage for men ideally was 30 years old when they had served their dues although it is unclear how often it was being done this way) but we are to expect that a man in his middle 20s was expected to have at least considered marriage if not already have a spouse and kids. So if Odysseus is "one generation older" on average he is around 20 years older than younger individuals (anywhere between 15-20 years could be closer) such as Diomedes or Antilochus here or Aias. Nestor who was considered an old man was in his 60s. He was still active on the field just not the same way as characters like Odysseus were.

Given the characterization "ωμογέρων" in the Odyssey and the description of him being a generation older than many young heroes I should calculate Odysseus is in the same age group as people like Agamemnon, making him older than other characters like Patroclus who was also generally older (closer to his early or even middle 30s if we assume that Achilles who was repeatedly said to be very young he was in his middle to final 20s during the war). That would make Odysseus a middle aged man and therefore closer in his 40s at the final year of the Trojan war.

My rough estimation is that he is in his early or mid-40s when this conversation takes place. He is middle-aged and yet he is vigorous, sportive and fast (so much so that only Achilles is said to be easily competing against him while most achaeans have hard time to), he is also strong given the many times his strength in spear, sword or bow were praised but at the same time he is obviously past the age of youth. That would make him in his early 50s at least when he arrives in Ithaca.

Is DC at the stage where they're unwilling to let time flow anymore (a 'Time Crisis' if you will), and the only way anyone's age changes now is through 'time shenanigans'.

Because there has to be an upper limit for how old they will allow a character to be - e.g. (For several reasons) They will never allow Bruce Wayne to turn 50.

You got it in one. Time is now an enemy that needs to be kept at bay, Why?

DC (and other comic books) have to keep their characters within a believable age range. It’s why DC has never allowed their characters to age in real time. They can’t and still keep them viable as Intellectual Properties.  Batman premiered in Detective Comics Comics #27 in March of 1939. Since Bruce was supposed to be somewhere around 22 to 25 years old at that time, he would pushing 130 years of age today.

The biggest canonical age-up in the Batfamily was Dick Grayson. Because of the 1966 Batman TV show he went from a ‘tween to a teen overnight. This was back in the days when I was young, meaning that comic books weren't really taken very seriously. The TV show was a huge success, so DC climbed on board the gravy train and tried to match as much in the comics as they could. 

 After the show ended in 1969, DC wisely realized that keeping an 18 or 19 year old in this costume...

was a truly bad idea (if not soft core porn at that point). Which is why Dick changed to Nightwing.

Dick was about 20 years old (maybe a little older at this point). He was a young adult but an adult by anyone’s standards. Dick then went to Bludhaven where he got not only his very own city to protect but better fashion sense as well. 

What this inevitably meant is that Bruce had to be aged up as well, leaving Bruce in his early 30′s when Dick became Nightwing. Batman got a series of Robins. First Jason..

Who was with him for 2 to 3 years. Batman is now early to mid 30s when Jason dies. Then Tim...

who started as Robin at 13 and stayed Robin until 17. That’s another 4 years. Bruce is now in his very late 30s. Then Stephanie...

who stayed Robin for all of 2 minutes before Tim was Robin again.

Bruce was in his very late 30s when Damian, age 11, came into the picture.

Four more years passed and not only did Tim go from being Red Robin to Robin again but he lost, then gained back a year of age. Damian went from 11 to 13 years of age, making Bruce in his early 40s.

The point is that each new iteration of Robin ages Bruce up. He’s now supposed to be in his early 40s. He’s beginning to feel age creeping up on him. A part of Bruce is finally ready to accept that he physically won’t be able to continue as Batman in another decade or so.

This is why the “Time Crisis” as you call it is vital. Batman has to be kept no older than he is now to be believable. It’s also why Damian got an upgrade to 13 but Tim is going to stay 17 basically forever. Yes, DC can pull some time shenanigan’s and let Damian and Tim get maybe a year older each but that’s it. 

The bottom line is simple. Batman and family are the biggest money makers DC currently has. If rumors are to be believed, Batman and Co are the only real money makers DC has. They’re pulling no end of crazy storyline stuff with Bruce but the one thing they cannot do is make him older. As someone in her late 60s I can tell you from experience that your early 40s are when you have the unpleasant awakening that you can’t push yourself like you used to. Sickness hits you hard. It takes longer to recover from injuries. You’re reminded of the wear and tear you put on your body over the years when you get out of bed each morning. 

“Time Crisis” isn’t really a crisis. It’s simply acknowledging that Batman isn’t Superman or Wonder Woman. He’s Bruce Wayne and Bruce Wayne may be the pinnacle of what a normal human can reach but he’s not an alien or a demi-god. Bruce Wayne is only mortal and all mortals fade with time.

Rarities + general info

Everyone has a little bit of magic. But some species have more magic than others. Regular humans would usually have 10 or so magic points (unless they increase it via fae magic, demon deals, angel promises, ancestry, etc). While hybrids (depending on ancestry, what kind of hybrid they are, etc) usually have up to 50-100 range. Magical species like the fae, demons, angels, etc, have up to 300 magic points.

General spells take up around 20 magic points and increase for how difficult/major the spell is. Say, moving something without touching it (levitation) would be less than magically starting a major earthquake or a tsunami.

Magic makes up a special force in the person's/species’ blood. It basically is the being itself. Despite that, you have a limit to how much you can use magic depending on how many magic points you have.

The highest magic points can go is to 300 while the lowest is 10.

The best way i can describe what i want to is like this: Tango (a witch and a mage in this au) has 150 MP thanks to his fae ancestry and his hybrid side. A regular person: say Impulse pre-demonification, has 15 magic points.

The amount of MP you have depends on the person as well as ancestry and species. Pre-demon Impulse has 15 while some random person who is the same species as him (human) can have 10 and another person has 12.

When your internal magic meter is lower than intended (everyone has to have 10 or more MP to survive, it increases with every species (Tango needs around 30 to survive, post-demon Impulse needs 100, etc)) the person either dies (when the magic hits 0) or passes out (any number above 0-10 but below their intended magic usage).

When the meter is overfilled it’s called “Overusage”. Overusage doesn’t happen by magical means as you cannot steal magic or acquire it through potions, spells, etc. It’s more like a disability you either gain by your body thinking wrong or from a birth struggle. When someone has Overusage they are extremely sensitive to the world around them as well as physically being weak. Usually Overusage means death at middle age (30-40) (the life expectancy is around 50-60 via modern and historical life expectancies) but some people with the illness have lived to the full life expectancy.

Overusage usually happens with hybrids of more magical species. Fae and a demon, demon with an angel, etc.

Species usually have a set of magics they are more intune to; Fae do better with nature spells, demons do better with spells linked with “black magic” (vise versa with angels and white magic), dragons do better with elemental spells, etc.

Most of them will accept and get obsessed with a lover who can be in this age range, but the ones who might be more enthused over it are the following:

GRIMBLY. You are the fantasy. You're the mommy gf, he's in heaven, please own him.

Pinter, Catalina and Katia. They can enjoy someone who can keep up with them, someone with experience in life, maybe even situations similar to theirs, be it professionally or amorously.

Primin. Primin has always found older women to be elegant. They have a sort of draw the imp struggles to explain, but it makes her behave a little more softly around a pretty older woman, maybe stutter.

Adelo. In a way, he's always sort of craved guidance and validation from someone older. Perhaps it's not exactly the most healthy of coping mechanisms, brought on by a childhood of constantly trying to prove himself, but he can satisfy that part of himself by awing and bothering an older woman who likely has more patience to put up with his shenanigans (or not).

Dorem. You're calmer, life has taught you some things, he feels that he can speak more freely with you about things that might scandalize a younger human. It's bittersweet, because he knows he's going to have to start planning for your soul's departure sooner than he usually would have to with a younger human.

If the four of them were born roughly in the same time period. (Vox died right in his 40s/50s in the 50s, Husk in his 60s/70s in the 70s, Angel in his 30s in 1947, Alastor in his 30s/40s in 1933)

do we really know how popular alastor was as a radio host when he was alive? well if he was like super famous, I'd put it as most likely for vox, considering obviously how radio precedes television, I just really like the idea that vox used to be a super big fan of radio shows that inspired him and well, you know, led to him being a fan of alastor's in hell, usually I don't hc vox as having heard of alastor pre-death but there's this art from twitter that makes me a bit insane that I am willing to indulge in the idea (also did vox die in his 40s/50s? the wiki says 30s-40s, same age range as alastor, are there any more recent sources that says otherwise?) husk, I don't really have much on this one, I guess potentially if alastor was that popular. angel dust? absolutely NOT. bro didn't even hear of alastor when he was the notorious radio demon in hell do you think he heard of alastor when he was alive? no way

─ As for family roles… Sanji was like a father to you, he was the most attentive to everything, he controlled that you had a balanced diet, that you hydrated, and he made sure that nothing and nobody could bother you or harm you, physically or mentally.

─ This cook already has an age and a past that makes him want to protect every possible child, and despite the fact that you were not a child, in his eyes it still seemed that you were 5 years old and not 13.

─ Because being in this crew most of the time means fighting and going to clubs, so yeah, he always had an eye on you just in case some nasty person tried something weird with you.

─ Wire always took care to relax Heat when you'd rather just walk around the village than be in a bar because you weren't much of a fan of drinking alcohol at your age. "What if she gets kidnapped? She can be there all alone being scared" "She literally dismembered a guy last time we fought, she'll be fine."

─ Wire is the cool uncle who lets you do whatever you want as long as your worried mom doesn't find out.

─ And if we talk about a father figure… Killer, Killer acted like a responsible father most of the time, not as worried as Heat but always watching over you and above all that you didn't let yourself be influenced by some of Kid's stupidity.

─ Because Kid was like your demon on your shoulder, despite already being of an age, this man wouldn't stop being impulsive and you're an easy-to-influence teenager, so you and Kid have a sibling relationship.

─ Killer just watches the two of you while he looks disapprovingly, you can't even see his face and you already know that he is disappointed with your decisions. "You guys broke what? oh okay." a lot of passive-aggressiveness whenever he scolds you.

─ But he will always scold Kid more because he is of legal age and should be responsible, he definitely doesn't leave you alone with him because the last time you ended up drunk.

─ And despite not being of many words, he's like the presence you need by your side at certain times, someone you can turn to if something bothers you and that you know that he will be there for you.

─ Overprotective squad in general.

─ Everyone sees Whitebeard as a father, however in your eyes he is like your grandfather, because Marco had earned the position of father figure.

─ This man wanted to establish a life a few years ago, start a family etc, then one day you just arrived and he decided to take you under his wing, literally.

─ He is the least worried if you compare him with the men of the other crews, he knows that he has many people who protect you by his side, so he is calm in that aspect.

─ He will still scold you for your bad habits. "Eat slower you'll choke if you keep eating like a turkey" "Don't you have a nest to make or something? I know how to eat, I'm not Ace" "Hey!"

─ Ace may have matured a lot more but he'll still be a bad influence on you, so Marco always asks Izo to keep an eye on both of you, because the last time he left you two alone you ended up in the stomach of a sea king.

─ His chest will swell with pride if you call him 'dad' in front of people.

─ He's the kind of dad who tells all the shits that have happened to you and he embarrasses you in front of the crew just because he wanted to tell a funny anecdote about you, although he later apologizes to you if he really upset you.

─ As for a mother figure, this crew is short of such things, but the closest thing was Izo, because without a doubt, within this crew full of testosterone, he was much more elegant and careful than the others.

─ And more than anything because you could steal his makeup to use it, although you didn't know how to apply many of the things he had, he helped you with that. "Honey you're spreading the makeup wrong" "Can you teach me Izo?"

─ He taught you a lot about self defense in case someone bothers you more than necessary, like using guns, you should know how to protect yourself just in case.

─ Proud mom watching you kick ass.

Bat-family ages in Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

In Batman: Wayne Family adventures, Damian’s age is given as 9 (Ep. 13) and Jason's is given as 19 (Ep. 53).

Bruce’s age is not given, and neither are Steph’s, Tim’s, Cass’s, Alfred’s, Barbara’s, Duke’s, Harper’s, Jim’s, Kate’s, Luke’s, or Selina’s.

According to Ep. 35, Dick became Robin 16 years ago (from current time in WFA), and according to the WFA wiki, Tim figured out Batman and Robin’s IDs at age 9. By adding the typical age Jason dies at (15), Dick’s usual age when Bruce takes him in (8 or 10), and how old Bruce typically is when his parents die (also 8 or 10), along with the typical age ranges of the Bat-family members compared to each other and their apparent ages in the webcomic, we can use some (dubious) math to extrapolate the (at least general) ages of the Bat-family at certain points on the timeline.

Ages of Bat-family members when…

Bruce's parents died: Alfred Pennyworth - late 30's or early 40’s, Jim Gordon - 24 or 26 (figure that looks like Jim seen among background police in Ep. 132 of WFA), Bruce Wayne - 8 or 10 (typically when it happens), Kate Kane - Kid, 13 or under, Selina Kyle - Kid, 13 or under, Barbara Gordon - Infant or 2, Dick Grayson - Not born yet or infant.

Medic - I believe that Medic is a very chaotic music lover. He has a background of classical in some way, with his fascination for it in the game and it’s bled outward into loving loud booms and the thrill of it speeding up.

Heavy - I’m not going to lie, this immediately came to me. Heavy loves pop. Heavy loves a bouncy little jig that he can play while cleaning Sasha. He probably got it from his sisters. I also believe that he has a very strong sense of political beliefs about his country so pop that has a message.

Demo - I see him being into much older songs for his age (he’s like nearly 30) just because of the way his mother raised him. I think he’s got an older soul than he thinks. So 1940’s swing and soul. Strong believer that he has more than a few albums that he cherishes, but most of them are from his mom.

He cries every time he puts it on though, just to let the feelings out. When he’s drunk, he sings terribly, when he’s sober? Probably still a little bad but he doesn’t know his range and doesn’t care if he’s tone deaf.

Pyro - I have personal ideas about Pyro that makes me think he is a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. I refuse to explain or elaborate as I will be here all day.

Soldier - FUCKING HATES THE BEATLES. I’m almost tempted to say the only thing he listens to is music about WAR. But he’s probably into punk music. But I’m sure he fucks up and listens to anti war songs instead of actual war songs. So he’s accidentally listening to ‘hippie music’. No one has the will to explain it to him.

His favorite song is probably Gene Stridel - What do you win when you win a war. But only when he’s more self aware, more aware of his situation. It comes and goes. Soldier refuses to sing the song, ever. But it’s close to his heart, even if he sometimes doesn’t know why.

Spy - secretly a hippie. Definitely into Yé-yé, a type of french-ized version of British pop/exotica (like THE BEATLES.) He shows Soldier his music taste and it sends him into a rage. I think he takes pleasure in it.

Especially Baroque Yé-yé. Very Spy feely. Also Scout’s mom has probably shown him some Josephine Baker, and he likes it. Sings in a snooty little voice but it sounds pleasant enough. He thinks he’s the best singer in the team. (it’s heavy)

Engineer - GOD, you’re so right. Johnny Cash is the most fitting for him. I feel like he’s definitely a music sharer and taker. He carries songs from the people who he loves around with him. I think his mom loves Tammy Wynette and it’s crossed over to him.

constellation's ages (estimated)

i've been playing this game since preload day and over time i've come up with estimates for how old each member of constellation is. these are based partially on math using info they give you and partially on how old they look and act

sarah: 43 years old. she was in the UC navy for 20 years and if we assume she enlisted at 18, that makes her 38 when she left after the colony wars. i think she does mention how long she's been in leadership at one point, i want to say 5 years. adjusting for margin of error, that makes her around 43 years old give or take

sam: 38 years old. this is solely based on the "you're flying in the face of my thirty-plus years of experience with the man" line which initially landed me at 35. he looks a little older than that though so i rounded up to 38. he's definitely younger than sarah based on how they interact

andreja: 27 to 30 years old. as far as i know we don't learn much if anything about her past, so this is almost a complete guess. she looks rather young but clearly possesses a maturity beyond that of, say, a 25 year old. i think the oldest she could be is early 30s but she seems closer to 27/28 to me

barrett: 56 years old. i always see him in my head as looking older than he actually does but he also seems like someone who's older than he looks. i'd say he's a particularly spry mid-50s goofball but the youngest he could be in my opinion is late 40s

matteo: 20 to 23 years old, definitely around my age or younger. he's full of youthful enthusiasm and talks openly about supporting his parents. he's a little naive but still extremely smart and introspective, which puts him around college age to me. possibly 19 at the youngest but i think he is over 20

walter: 72 years old. definitely older than he looks but anything in the 60s feels too low for him. most ethical billionaire in gaming. which isn't saying much but at least he's passionate and would rather be at constellation than dealing with his company. his scheming trophy wife takes care of all that. retiree behavior

vladimir: 65 years old. also older than he looks which makes sense because he's essentially a bodybuilder by the time you meet him. had a loooong history as a pirate and also seems to have been retired from that for quite a while. he's definitely older than barrett in my opinion, also refers to himself as an old man while asking you to check on andreja. older people tend to call themselves old before they actually reach the age society deems as "old" (70s) so it's likely that he's in his 60s

i for one appreciate the wide age variation. i loved how many choices there were in fallout 4 but it's nice to have a range of all walks of life

‪‪༘༘ ˖࣪  REPUTATION ─ you can easily split aponia's into two groups, the normal people here to listen to the music and occasionally giggle over instagram photos, then you have the crazies. they don't necessarily have a "bad" reputation per say, but they aren't all sweet either, they definitely butt heads with others from time to time. they get the first couple things right, supporting the group unconditionally, speculating about their shady company, cheering loudly whenever junmin decides to suddenly post himself on his own instagram, the usual things you expect for the fandom of this group, but then there are.. the others. mainly kyuhyun's solo stans, there's a certain subsection of the fandom that just reek of losers with no self respect. you know who they are, the kinds of fans who don't think of idols as human beings and instead talk about the members as if their dolls, or products they can buy, the kinds of fans who will break into dorms to steal hairbrushes and sell them online (this has happened.. believe it or not).

if you strip that all away, though, they really aren't that bad. they engage in fanwars with their teeth barred like they're wild animals, but what fandoms don't? they will probably ride or die for meliora, just don't say yohan can't sing, you'll see an angry aponia like you've never seen before, they terrify me sometimes. really, it all depends on where you talk to an aponia, some of the twitter dwellers might be nice, but they usually hold some condescending superiority complex that's just.. so stupid. again, certain fandom spaces yield certain results, so as long as you choose correctly, you'll be fine.

they do have their good moments though, the fandom will go to war for the members. they'll take the extremities if it means the members will be able to get rest. if they have to boycott, they will boycott, if they have to start petitions, they will start petitions. crossing out all the strange sasaeng fans, they truly just want the best for the members, even if that means petition after petition to get them even the tiniest of a break (yohan hiatus area.. yeah, 2021 was definitely a time). genuinely, when all jokes are off the table and the giggles from junhan (yohan + junmin) posting a selca together finally settle away, they're serious about the members, it's cute.. i guess.

the relationships between aponia's and meliora is as cute as it is strange. they often argue, bicker, have these stupid little hissy fits over things that are insanely stupid. the members never feel the need to put up a front, not with their close fans anyway, at fansigns, the members usually see familiar faces, always making sure to point out when they see someone they know they've met before again. a good majority of them always remember their older fans, their faces, and their names, which is especially funny when fans get nervous about a member looking at them for too long. generally, aponia's don't mind dating rumors, considering that only one member is publicly known to be dating someone, they're just waiting, often joking about how the others have "no game". there is absolutely no way all thirteen of them could be single, that's impossible.

People claim like Toriel is too old for Sans or whatever but like, Sans is canonically like 36 years old, Toriel stopped aging when Asriel died and assuming Monsters fully mature at age 25 like humans and Asriel is 8-11 this means Toriel is 33-36.

That's a maximum of 3 years age difference, with Sans actually being the one who is "older".

eh, i think you're making a lot of assumptions that don't really have a basis in canon undertale lore. starting from the fact that we have no indication that monsters age at the same pace as human beings.

sans isn't "canonically" anything, though i do personally see him in the 32-35 age range, which can comfortably fit 1) a life "before" that he had to leave, 2) some life experience in STEM and 3) a period afterwards for that "i gave up trying to go back a long time ago" he mentions.

same thing for toriel. who knows! maybe her parents lived a long life and she kept growing older past age 25, say, in her late 30s as well, before having a child of her own. which considering the war and all she might have had when she was chronologically a lot older, and would push her physical age closer to her 40s/50s (i think asriel is 11-13, but once again, this is all baseless speculation)

in the end it's not the physical age difference that is the issue for those people, it's the mental age: lived experience, which in real life makes big age gaps dangerous because they can give one half of the couple a lot of power and leverage over the other. the thing is, the "riskiness" of an age gap doesn't just increase exponentially forever depending on how older one person is compared to the other. a 25 year old that is acclimated and comfortable in their life as an adult can go on to date a 78 year old for all they care, and there won't be any inherent power imbalance compared to, say, that same 25 year old and a 16 year old, despite there only being 9 years of age difference. so sans could be in his 30s and toriel could be in her 60s physically and millenia old chronologically, and it still wouldn't give her any substantial power over him lmao. anyone who complains is milfphobic ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

How do you think Theon Greyjoy would have fared at the Archery contest during the Hand’s Tourney in AGOT?

As mentioned in a similar ask about Sarella, Anguy won that contest by outshooting “Ser Balon Swann and Jalabhar Xho at a hundred paces after all the other bowmen had been eliminated at the shorter distances,” (AGOT, Eddard 7) which can be estimated at about 250 feet. Has Theon ever been shown to shoot that far, and (if not), can we estimate his maximum range from known cases? (No, of course I wouldn’t just say “pretty well” or “not great” based on reputation).

Right off the bat, Theon has a few more instances of shooting arrows than Sarella (who just has the one scene in the AFFC Prologue) mentioning that he’s been practicing archery under Dagmer Cleftjaw (so before the age of 9) and had pretty good accuracy even then (saying he put an arrow through a “seagull on the wing” in ACOK Theon 3). Tyrion, a complete stranger, vaguely remembers Theon being “good with a bow” (ACOK Tyrion XI), and it sounds like he was one of the archers who shot down the Frey ravens (AGOT Catelyn IX) among Brynden Tully’s men. However, I’ve found two instances of Theon shooting arrows where we can roughly estimate the distance (if anybody has found other cases, please point them out).

Theon intends to shoot at Todric’s drinking horn but shoots him in the belly instead due to sudden movement, so he’s close enough to see fairly small objects. He’s also able to make himself heard to the people next to Todric without it being mentioned that he had to move closer or raise his voice. A normal conversational voice is 60 decibels (dB). Sound pressure level normally halves (by six decibels) for each doubling of distance, meaning the distance between Theon and Todric at the point of shooting was about 40 feet.

The other instance is when Theon, carrying a longbow and with long razor-tipped broadhead arrows, shoots Stiv when he holds a dagger at Bran’s throat:

Bran is able to hear (though quietly) Theon shoot the arrow before it makes impact with Stiv’s chest. This is fairly significant because at shorter distances, Bran wouldn’t have been able to detect the arrow’s shooting and impact as separate events, and it’s estimated that humans can separate sounds as little as 20-30 milliseconds apart. Since sound travels 343 m/s through air, that puts the minimum distance of Theon from Stiv at 6.86m or 20.6 feet. However, that doesn’t take into account how loud the thrum of Theon’s bow is. It may be surprising that longbows are actually one of the quietest bows (the recurve is louder, and the crossbow the loudest) and the larger arrows like broadheads make quieter noises when shot, because the energy the bowstring would’ve made slapping the wood is transferred into hurling the arrow. According to this thread, the longbow firing could be around 74dB or over 10 times louder than normal conversation, about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Using the same formula for sound over distance as in the Todric example, 74dB can be heard from about 90 feet away, meaning the distance between Stiv and Theon was between 20 and 90 feet (though admittedly, definitely closer to 90, maybe about 85 feet).

That’s about all I can estimate about Theon’s maximum archery distance; it’s less than 100 feet, far less than Anguy’s winning distance of 250 feet. It seems his archery talent is more in his accuracy at hitting small (sometimes moving) targets at somewhat “close” distances rather than hitting larger stationary targets at very far distances (maybe significant foreshadowing for his role in protecting the Starks in TWOW?) Meanwhile, the Hand’s Archery Contest in AGOT was based on who could hit archery butts from the farthest pace away, which is definitely not Theon’s strong point if my textual analysis means anything. Just based on what I can determine about sound distance from two more detailed scenarios of his shooting, Theon would probably make it to the early-middle rounds of the Hand’s Archery Contest and get eliminated by 40 paces/100 feet from the targets, (and probably insult all the men who got further than he did and mock the idea of Ned getting a tourney in general to make himself feel better about losing so soon).

why is kep so big already!!!! illegal!!! do you know if hes already mostly done growing/ how much bigger will he get based on his parents' sizes?

i knowwwwww 😭 i cant believe he used to be so small and round and now he's already bigger than stellina! like 3 different people in the past week have commented that "he doesn't look like a puppy anymore, he's a dog now" and it makes me proud but also a bit sad lol. (though of course in a few years i'll see pics of him at this age and think 'what the fuck he's still a baby here')

he's definitely not done growing yet, but idk exactly how big he'll get! there's a few different formulas people swear by for calculating weight, and those give me a range of anywhere from like 55lbs to 85lbs. i didn't get to meet his parents but from what i've read of his critiques his dad was a fairly stocky, dense dog. kep's breeder told me that kep "has good bone" (aka was also a stocky, dense puppy) and she estimated he'd be around 70-75lb full grown. i personally suspect he'll end up more in the 60-65lb range, but i may be wrong! i need to weigh him soon but i think he's somewhere in the low 40s currently at 5.5 months.

stellina stopped growing more or less exactly at 6 months haha but she's very petite + female, so idk how different the kep growth projection will look in comparison.
