In case you're not familiar with what I do, I'm also a merchmaker and used to make various merch of stuff I like :D I've been wanted to do GoT merch for years but was too afraid before because I didn't have the skills etc...

But not anymore!! 😼 So here's the designs I've been working on for a while. It was quite a challenge but I'm happy with the result, the backgrounds were the most challenging part lmao!!

I'll post pics of them when I'll have them and ready to be purchased on my shop! 🤸‍♀️ For now, hope you'll like the designs! (I also have some HotD charms that I'll post later, but did months before so I'm less happy with how they look lmao)

One thing that use to really annoy me about ASOIAF fandom was the insistence that Theon was the one who sacked Winterfell and this was and still is something that many believe.

It was absolutely astonishing to me because we know who sacked Winterfell, it is shown to us in Theon's last ACOK chapter. So why do many believe that Theon was the one who sacked Winterfell and not Ramsay?

It's not until recently I've figured out the answer, mostly because I'm older and wiser. There's a saying if you repeat a narrative long enough it becomes the "truth".

We might have seen what happened in ACOK and who is actually responsible for the sacking but we spend every book after that with the narrative that Theon was the one who sacked Winterfell and it's a narrative either believed and accepted by everyone or a narrative that has yet to be corrected. The only brief time we see it corrected was during Davos' chapters with Wex but not even Theon has yet to correct it. He has corrected the fact he didn't kill Bran and Rickon, though mostly to himself but not on the sacking.

To make the narrative even more believable from a reader's stand point is that no one that thinks to ask questions espeically those who knew Theon.

Jon doesn't think Theon would kill Bran or Rickon but he has no doubts about Theon burning Winterfell to the ground. The idea that might not be true has never crossed his mind like it does with the deaths of Bran and Rickon.

Robb doesn't question either and nor does Catelyn.

And I think this plays into the narrative being believed rather than the truth even if we have seen the truth with our own eyes. Because if even those who know Theon have no doubts about his guilt in the Sack of Winterfell then it must be true. Right? Afterall Robb, Jon and Catelyn are quite good judges of character and on top of that Theon has lived with them for 10 years so if they believe it then we have to believe it. Right?

Add on another layer that not everyone will read Theon's chapters twice either because they don't know his character, because they don't those chapters as important to the overarching story or even with Theon fans I know some will skip his ACOK chapters because they don't like him in those chapters but do his ADWD chapters.

So the real culprits who was behind the sacking are forgotten about through this constant false narrative that is repeating constantly in ASOS, AFFC and ADWD.

Repeating narratives can twist the truth and make people doubt what they saw with their own eyes or what they remember.

I really don't know if this was something GRRM has done on purpose but if he has it's absolute genius on his part because sometimes a narrative can become the "truth" if it's repeated.

Love your insights here! It reminds me also of how dogs avoid eye contact because they perceive it as a threat. They also look away when they are being submissive. Alfie Allen talked a few times about how Reek spent most of his time with the dogs and how he was trying to bring their behavior into his performance- this interview goes into it a little bit.

most of the time he's avoiding ramsays gaze like its a matter of life and death.

but sometimes ramsay really confuses him, so he starts flicking his eyes between ramsay and the floor, desperately wanting to get any insight. ramsay's face doesn't give much away but he can see if he's done something atrocious thats going to get more of him flayed, intimately familiar with how his face drops when theon's done something that's ruined his fun.

but he's scared, he's so scared to even look at ramsay, to meet his eyes, terrified by the off chance he might be perceived as an equal which he knows he's not he does he does know. so he steals these tiny glances, looking up at him and immediately back down to the floor like ramsay actually looking back would be the end for him.

and when ramsay demands his gaze? he looks downright terrified. like its all a test and ramsays going to hit him any minute for even daring to look into his eyes

i think a lot of it is because theon is so ashamed, there's a lot of scenes where ramsays staring directly at him and theons just gazing into the distance fully dissocaited bc he can't process any of this or that he's "letting" it happen.

but i also fully believe ramsay has beat that lesson into theon, has tested him and taught him that he's not allowed to look at him, even when he tells him to, that he's a servant, less than a servant and even servants don't deserve to look ramsay in the eye.

modern theon is an bisexual icon/loser, he wanted to fuck both cat and ned, tells robb every time when he seas cersei lannister that she wants him so bad (he once tried to hit on her and she hit him so hard that he nearly blacked out but when anyone asked about the bruise he said that it was an sm game) and robb totally believes him. he and jon had once or twice hate sex but it ended because there was to much hate and far to less sex in theons opinion. theon, like in canon tried to bang asha and she told everyone wich will be brought up by everyone in every dispute to mock theon. naturally he was in a (abusive) relationship with ramsay and still lost a finger to this. he tried to hit on sansa when she became 16 and cat, pissed off because theon was 24 still lived with them, (they thought he woild go out of theyre foster care once he turned 18) fucked very vocaly on the attic (his room), always calls her a milf, tried to get ned into some weard daddy kink and is in i relationship with robb (she thinks he could get someone better) throws him out. theon just comes back after two weeks because he lost all his money to buisness ideas and slept by ramsay, whom drugged him and cut off one of his toes. you can say that the dinners at the stark house are aquard after all this

Went on a proper reread of ASOIAF in english recently and I don't know what happened.

Never really cared for Theon, never understood the obsession some had with him, and when reading his chapters in ACOK he was even worse than I remembered.

Then I got to ADWD again, and now I understand....
