When I was told I was teaching Hamilton, I was nervous. Historically, my kids have not enjoyed learning about millennial faves. But dang, I've been impressed by how much they're engaging with this:

A frequent class cutter stays late to finish a paragraph about how much Hamilton's life reminds him of his own.

Students being appalled that he was shot by a political rival but also super into it as a historical reflection of Biggie and Tupac

A frequent sleeper stays awake and begins bopping to Helpless and tells me it's actually not half bad.

A student who's constantly talking over me to her friends instead sings along to Satisfied by the end of the song.

A table of girls Google Anthony Ramos to fawn over him. Across the room, boys fawn over Jasmine Cephas Jones

I think this unit might work out.

Just had the mental image of modern AU Romance Dawn trio where Nami was the only one who had a bike and so they would constantly use her to get around town. Luffy either sat on the handle bars or more funnily, the basket and Zoro sat on the back but Nami got sick of peddling them around so she switched with Zoro. Problem was, Zoro had no idea where they were going all of the time. So instead of sitting back to back she had to turn around and give directions. And if Zoro didn’t listen, she would reach forward and YANK the handle to where they needed to turn. Luffy has fallen off multiple times through this and laughs every single time finding it hilarious.

... This show is doing such a better job of this than any existing BL. How are they this good? They did the 'I don't want to reconcile for your own good' thing so well and the 'I hate you but it's because you keep leaving me' thing and then he just punched the shit out of him and it was perfect because he needed and deserved it. And the fact that he was always mad because he got abandoned and not the reasons Saint always assumed and just all of it? The love that Shin has for Saint that he tried to turn into hatred after he was left but never could and how Saint hates himself so much but still love Shin so much and loves him so much that he feels like he has to leave him? Ugh. My entire heart.

And they did it so well. Ugh, the emotional catharsis of it all.
