skincare practices
skincare refers to the practice of maintaining and improving the health and appearance of your skin. this post is a guide on where to start!
having a routine (starting with simple practices)
cleanser: begin and end your day by washing your face with a gentle, sulphate-free cleanser. even if your skin feels clean, this step removes any impurities.
moisturizer: apply a fragrance-free moisturizer twice a day. hydration is crucial for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
sunscreen: protect your skin from uv damage by using a mineral- or chemical-based sunscreen with at least spf 30. apply it in the morning.
skin types
there are 5 primary skin types, each with unique characteristics and needs.
normal skin is balanced and not too oily or dry. it's like the goldilocks of skin types! maintain it with a gentle routine. if your skin is generally normal, opt for a lotion. as you age, consider switching to a cream-based moisturizer for added hydration.
dry skin lacks hydration, feels tight, and may have flakiness. opt for richer moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. for dry skin, skip lotions and go for creams or ointments. these provide more moisture and help preserve water in the skin.
oily skin produces excess oil, especially in the t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). use lightweight, oil-free products and consider salicylic acid for acne-prone areas. if you’re prone to oiliness, choose a light gel-based moisturizer to avoid clogging pores.
combination skin is a mix of oily and dry areas. focus on balancing - light moisturizers for oily zones and richer ones for dry areas. treat your face as two zones. moisturize the dry areas and skip the oily ones. remember to look for spf 30 or higher for sun protection!
sensitive skin is prone to redness, irritation, and reaction. choose fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products and patch-test any new products.
common skincare mistakes
skipping sunscreen. sunscreen is non-negotiable! protect your skin from uv damage by using spf 30 or higher daily. if you live in a sunny environment, make sure to reapply before you go outside!
not cleansing before bed: properly cleanse your face before sleeping. it removes dirt, makeup, excess oil, and pollution remnants, preventing breakouts and maintaining healthy skin.
sleeping with makeup on. gross! no! remove your makeup before you go to bed to prevent clogged pores and skin irritation.
using too many products. overloading with products can overwhelm your skin, so learn how to simplify your routine. additionally, using products that are not right for your skin may have negative effects - creating more issues instead of solving them.
overusing acne products. be gentle with acne treatments. overuse can lead to dryness and irritation.
using harsh products. avoid aggressive ingredients that strip your skin. opt for gentle formulations.
remember - healthy skin starts with mindful habits.

skincare !!
I asked chat gpt to give me the perfect skincare routine and this is what I got:
Tumblr media
Morning Routine:
Cleanser:
Use a gentle cleanser to remove any overnight buildup and prepare your skin for the day.
Toner:
Apply a toner to balance the skin's pH levels and provide hydration.
Serum:
Choose a serum based on your skin concerns. For example:
Vitamin C for brightening and antioxidant protection.
Hyaluronic acid for hydration.
Niacinamide for overall skin health.
Moisturizer:
Apply a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer to lock in moisture.
Sunscreen:
Finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. This is crucial for protecting your skin from UV rays and preventing premature aging.
Evening Routine:
Makeup Remover/Cleansing Oil:
If you wear makeup, start with a makeup remover or cleansing oil to break down and remove any makeup or sunscreen.
Cleanser:
Cleanse your face with a gentle, hydrating cleanser to remove impurities.
Exfoliation (2-3 times a week):
Use a chemical exfoliant (like AHA or BHA) to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. Don't overdo it, as excessive exfoliation can lead to irritation.
Toner:
Apply a toner to rebalance the skin and prepare it for the next steps.
Treatment (if needed):
Use a treatment product targeted to your specific concerns, such as retinol for anti-aging or acne treatments.
Moisturizer:
Apply a slightly heavier moisturizer in the evening to nourish and hydrate the skin.
Eye Cream (optional):
If you use an eye cream, apply it before your moisturizer.
Tumblr media
I'll be following this routine and in 40 days, I'll come back with my thoughts and observations on this. Disclaimer: skincare is a very personal thing and what works for someone may not work for you.

Partically inspired by @giddyaunt425
Went to the pool today and had some thoughts (because I can't escape the brain rot sooo)
What I think everyone would be doing at the
☆Incarnation and Co Pool Party☆
For regulation reasons, only those who are available are attending, including all of the past incarnations due to some sort of freak accident at UNIT that im too lazy to think of right now.
(Feel free to add what else you think these lunatics would be doing! Use the tag #Incarnation pool party)
Tumblr media
1 is laying under an umbrella half asleep and complaining that he's going to get a sunburn if he falls asleep.
('But if Susan was here, she wouldn't let me get burnt')
2 has been given a beach ball and is honestly just happy to be playing in the water. He told 1 that he would keep an eye on him, but let's be honest - he already forgot.
(And he missed Jamie. He probably would have mentioned Atlantis.)
3 and Delgado! Master are over in the sand pit, bickering on how their sand castle should look.
(3 says it shouldn't have that many windows, Delgado disagrees, making more windows and claiming that they need the natural lighting.)
Tumblr media
4 is in nothing but his scarf and his trunks taking a nap on one of the sun bathing chairs.
(This is probably the best sleep he's had in a long time, but... He pprroobbaallyy has a sunburn now. This is what 1 was worried about.)
So is Yana!Master, who was lucky enough to be prudish enough to only show his forearms and shins, which are now also burnt.
(Despite Donna's constant shouting about sunscreen and how 'You blokes are too pale to be out here with nothin' but your longjohns!' But he is still infact the Master. Which means, of course, denying authority)
5 is in the field portion trying to teach Dhawan! Master, Dan, and Martha how to play cricket. (but is getting visibly frustrated. Seriously- who signed him up to babysit?)
Tumblr media
Tegan is watching 5 trying to understand Dhawan's nonsense from the sidelines, smirking.
(She signed him up to babysit)
6 has the most ridiculous looking one piece known to man, sitting on the edge of the pool at the deep end.
(He's kicking his legs in the water and cheekily splashing 7 and Mel)
Mel is on 7s arm in a frilly two-piece, giggling at the fact 7 refuses to take off his hat despite the water being up to his chest.
(He's asking Ace not to drown him, Ace responds, 'No promises, professor' and proceeds to dunk him, which gets them the whistle for roughhousing. His hat is now soaked.)
Tumblr media
Graham is talking about processing grief with 9. (The name Grace has come up at least 30 times already.)
9 seems weary of the water. (Sometime later, he's found hugging 10 and telling him about the beach they took Rose to.)
8 is on the other side of the pool, slathered in SPF 80° with a book and regretting his seating choices. He's trying his darndest to ignore his neighbors.
(While also evesdroping each time he hears the name 'Grace')
Tumblr media
His neighbor in question is Donna, who is already four margaritas in and keeps shouting at various things at people over the very loud party music that's playing from under her chair's radio.
(Sometimes threatening to drown a specific someone if they didn't stop terrorizing Ainley!Master, who kept hissing for getting purposly splashed)
From 'Do a flip!' Towards Simm!Master, who keeps hogging the diving board, demanding that 10 watch every single jump and challenging him to make bigger splashes than him.
(Donna told Simm that 10 needs babysat and 15 told 10 that Simm needs babysat so now they are both simultaneously babysitting each other)
Tumblr media
To 'WOOO! Get'em!' At the game of Chicken going on between a team of 11 and 13 VS 12 and Missy.
12 is complaining that Missy is heavy and Missy accuses him of insinuating something, which in turn leads to 13 insulting 12.
(That he was 'just weak and couldn't afford the upgrade because she can carry 11 just fine'.)
Tumblr media
14 is next to her and can't stop laughing at her shenanigans. Sometimes, he tries apologizing to 8 and Roberts! Master (who keeps covering his ears from such loud music and shouting) but, unfortunately, is SEVEN margaritas in.
(So was otherwise just as- if not more- noisy and is now attempting to dance)
S10 Saxon!Master has rolled his eyes at least a billion times by now at the others' antics (smirking at the sight of their hiddeous dancing) and keeps finishing off 14s half drank margaritas.
(You would need a drink too if you had to deal with all this bullshit)
Tumblr media
All the way across the pool, Ruby and Yaz are gossiping about their time with the Doctor and their past incarnations. (They're heavily trying to figure out what the Masters deal is too, Seriously- why are some of them chill, some creepy, some insane and some flat out an ass? They had a list as follows;
The sensitive master: Chill + Creepy
The girl master: Chill + Insane
The grandpa master: Chill + Chill
The bitchy master: Ass + Ass
13s master: Creepy + Insane
The master with rabies: Insane + insane
The one master who apprently knows a lot about sand castles: Chill + Ass
The master that kept hissing when you splash water on him: Creepy + Ass)
Tumblr media
15 is sat on a life gaurd tower, whistle around his neck, sonic in hand and in an orange speedo, watching everyone like a hawk so that his past selves can heal and enjoy themselves.
(Oh, and did I mention Donna confiscated everyone's Sonic's/Lazers except for 15s?)

Mon, Wed, Fri : Combine AHA BHA Gentle face peel with any clay based face mask. Let it on for 20 mins. Clean it off with an oil based face cleanser.
Tue, Thurs, Sat : Apply Retinol. It can be combined with your moisturizer.
Don't mix AHA BHA Peeling solution with Retinol serum. (Don't use both on the same day)
If you have scars on your skin. Don't use the AHA BHA Peeling solution. It might worsen those scars.
Other things I do daily:
Use water based sunscreen even when it's not sunny. Never skip your sunscreen.
Use any SPF-30 lipbalm. I love Seba Med lipbalm.
I don't apply any Hair oil (advised by my dermatologist. Because of my chronic dandruff & hairfall. Please consult your dermatologist before following this particular haircare routine). Instead I use some water based Tea tree hair serum for hair growth & volume.
Always moisturize even if your skin is naturally oily. At least use an oil free moisturizer if you feel like your skin is too oily.
If you have oily skin & acne use Salicylic Acid & Nicotinamide Gel / cream. (Only if you have acne)(over using this can dry your skin)
What & Why:
AHA BHA Peeling solution : Hyperpigmentation, unclog & shrink pores, blackheads & whiteheads.
Retinol : Anti ageing, Collegen production, Plumper skin and reduce fine lines.
Salicylic Acid & Nicotinamide Gel / cream : Acne, Black heads, White heads & Dark spots.

Note
Hello dear,
I'm an older woman who didn't have the chance to be guided when I was younger about selfcare, about beauty (makeup, clothes, accessories, etc.), the importance of looking my best, and about wanting to move forward professionally.
I've always admired the way women carried themselves in the 1940's (their clothes, their femininity) and I'm getting inspiration from that era for hair, makeup and clothes. This kind of information is pretty easy to find. My problem is I lack self-discipline when it's time to take care of myself, since I feel I was not taught properly, and I find it difficult to create a routine and sometimes even to get out of the house looking by best.
Could you please help me define a routine (morning and night) and new partterns, along with a mindset to achieve the self-representation of my dreams?
Hi love! So excited for you to start this self-care journey and prioritize yourself. I believe it's always the right time to start a routine that makes you feel better about yourself. Focus on the small things and begin habit-stacking. I have a goal-setting, productivity, and self-discipline guide linked HERE to get you started.
To become consistent with self-care habits, I think the most important mindset shift is to remember that no one else will ever put more effort into you than you will yourself – they're too busy with their own lives and everything that comes up. This change is for YOU, so you can feel better about your daily life. Why deprive yourself of this joy and self-pleasure when all you have to do is set aside a few minutes twice a day to better your life? Think of lacking consistency in your self-care routines as a form of self-sabotage (because it is, honestly).
When it comes to routines, you have to find what works for you, but the most important steps fit into 3 buckets: hygiene, nourishment, and improvement-focused indulgence (beauty, style, self-development reading, a yoga class, etc.).
Simple Morning & Nighttime Habits:
Brush teeth, floss, & skincare (2x/day)
Shower, brush hair, moisturize, and blowdry with heat protection cream and a round brush (1x/day)
Establish a daily makeup routine and a capsule wardrobe
Have at least 2 filling plant-based meals packed with whole foods, such as fruits, veggies, avocado, beans, whole grains, tahini, potatoes, etc. (following this regimen for 10 years has given me almost perfect skin with little to no external effort)
Drink plenty of water (your weight in pounds = target water consumption in ounces)
Wear sunscreen daily (at least 30-50 SPF)
Cut, file, and brush your nails (at least 1x/week)
Use a dermaplaning, sugar scrubs, and tweezing as needed to remove hair from your face and body (usually once every 2-4 weeks)

8 Skincare Hacks a Dermatologist Recommended for Winter Radiance
As the winter chill sets in, our skin often undergoes various challenges that can leave it feeling dry, dull, and irritated. To combat these seasonal skincare woes, I recently had the privilege of consulting a dermatologist who shared invaluable tips to keep skin healthy and radiant during the colder months. Here are eight expert-approved skincare hacks to incorporate into your winter routine.
Hydration is Key: One of the fundamental principles emphasized by the dermatologist was the importance of hydration. Cold weather, indoor heating, and hot showers can strip the skin of its natural moisture. Combat this by incorporating a rich, hydrating moisturizer into your daily routine. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin to lock in moisture and keep your skin supple.
Gentle Cleansing: Avoid harsh cleansers that can further dry out your skin. Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that effectively removes impurities without compromising your skin's natural barrier. Consider cleansing your face with lukewarm water to prevent excessive drying.
Humidify Your Space: Combat the dry indoor air caused by heaters by using a humidifier in your living space. This simple addition helps maintain optimal moisture levels in the air, preventing your skin from becoming overly dry.
Protective Layers: Don't skimp on sunscreen just because it's winter. Harmful UV rays are still present, and snow can reflect sunlight, intensifying its effects. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and apply it to exposed areas, including your face, neck, and hands.
Exfoliate Wisely: Exfoliation is essential to slough off dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover, but too much can exacerbate winter dryness. Opt for a gentle exfoliant with ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) once or twice a week to maintain a healthy glow.
Lip Care: Chapped lips are a common winter woe. Combat this by using a nourishing lip balm containing ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax, or coconut oil. Apply it regularly to keep your lips soft and hydrated.
Invest in a Night Cream: Nighttime is when the skin undergoes repair and regeneration. Enhance this process by using a richer night cream during the winter months. Look for formulations with ingredients like retinol, peptides, or ceramides to promote overnight rejuvenation.
Stay Hydrated from Within: Hydrating your skin goes beyond topical treatments. Ensure you're drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day to maintain overall skin health. Herbal teas and water-rich fruits and vegetables can also contribute to your hydration levels.
As winter brings its unique challenges to skincare, implementing these dermatologist-approved hacks can help you achieve a radiant complexion despite the harsh weather conditions. Remember, a consistent and thoughtful skincare routine is the key to keeping your skin healthy and glowing throughout the winter months.

Manage Stress: Practice stress-relief techniques like meditation or yoga to prevent stress-related skin issues.
Use Eye Cream: Apply a specific eye cream to address concerns like dark circles or puffiness around the eyes.
Avoid Smoking: Smoking accelerates aging and damages skin cells, so it's best to avoid it for healthier skin.
Gentle Cleansing: Be gentle while cleansing and pat your skin dry instead of rubbing vigorously.
Wear Protective Clothing: Cover your skin with hats, sunglasses, and clothing to shield it from the sun.
Know Your Skin Type: Use products tailored to your specific skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, etc.).
Stay Consistent: Consistency is key in skincare; use products regularly to see the best results.
Stay Active: Regular exercise improves blood circulation, which contributes to healthier skin.
Consult a Dermatologist: If you have persistent skin issues or concerns, seek advice from a dermatologist for personalized skincare recommendations.
Remember, everyone's skin is different, so it's essential to find a routine that works best for you.

This is your reminder if you plan on going to protests
Tumblr media
No matter your skin tone, you need to wear sunscreen, especially considering doctors are so shit at diagnosing skin cancer in people with darker skin tones.
Reapply every two hours. If you use spray, you should be doing at least two layers on each area and rubbing it in (even if it says no rub).
When it comes to sunscreen, make sure you are using a broad spectrum sunscreen or one rated sp+++ at minimum. Sunscreens not labelled as such will only protect you against UVB rays (the ones which cause burns) not UVA rays (the ones that cause cancer).
If like me you have photosensitivity, apply sunscreen under your UV protectant clothes, stay close to buildings, And consider other ways you can help than protesting if it is severe.
You can order UV protectant sleeves, but if you can't afford those then go through your closet and look for densely woven clothing. You can read specifics about determining the sun protection your clothes provide here.
Wear a hat or bandana over your head to keep your scalp safe. Make sure to put sunscreen on and behind your ears no matter your hair length.
Finally remember: any sunscreen is better than no sunscreen. If you miss a reapply, do it asap. If your sunscreen is only SPF 15 instead of 30, use it or ask to borrow someone else's. If yours isn't tear free, again ask to borrow someone else's for your face.
