My mom broke both arms this week from a very bad, dangerous fall. Firstly, I was disturbed by how much worse it could have played out. It's not an exaggeration to say she could have become paralyzed or worse. And it happened in a mundane way doing a household chore in the yard. But yes climbing up on something unsteady.
Secondly, I started wondering... what will I be doing if that happens to me (if not now, then let's say in 20 years when I'm her age). My parents' relationship is far from perfect (they're my first enemy ship I guess), but my dad is taking care of her right now in ways that make me cringe to even think about ever needing in my lifetime. And she has a son living close by who took her to the ER and sat with her through the ordeal of waiting for four hours in horrible pain and then her having her bones reset.
Idk. It just burst my flimsy illusion that "I... don't... need... anyone!" An accident like that could happen to anyone. But... I also just cannot face getting into the dating scene again on the off chance I find someone who will feed and shower me if I become disabled.
It was also the first time I looked up "meal delivery services" and it was basically for elderly people who can't take care of themselves anymore, and it was like a glimpse into my future, probably throwing money at the problem of caring for aging parents from afar, since I don't live close to them.

I feel like I'm even more sad and angry and existential lately. And I'm blaming my birthday for that. I turn 20 in February. 20! That doesn't feel right! I don't know if it will for a while! It feels like the past two or three years have all been a blur! My mom died! I learned I had to graduate high school! I had to do this and this and this, and it all felt like a series of snowballs hitting me, and merging to become one giant avalanche of stress.
I then had to deal with yet more stress. This year is almost definitely my last year for High School and the online Social Skills Class, which is almost agonizing. I still haven't managed to make any real friends from the class (besides maybe the teachers), because I never kept in touch with anyone. Now I'm nearly 20 with no friends. All my brain wants to do is make me worry about this still being a problem for years, which is great. I also worry college will be so different that I won't be able to handle it. And if I can't handle it, that means no more school for me ever again. And my brain can't cope with that either.
On top of all this, my dad keeps texting someone. And then he randomly asks me if i'm okay with him dating again. And like, what am I supposed to say!? No? Should I be the jerk who deprives their father of happiness? Or should I make myself deal with all this, when even thinking about it sends my mind into a tailspin of thoughts? I don't know. But my dad keeps randomly bringing it up, and then I accidentally saw some sexual stuff on his phone's search history. And that made me think about stuff I didn't want to think about. So that was great too.
And just to be clear, I'm not depressed 24/7. It's been a bit more frequent lately, and my stress does seem stronger than usual some days. But I still have happy moments, and calm moments. They're just…they usually end up feeling less memorable then my stressful moments and my sad moments. Maybe that's a bad thing, but it's just a simple fact. sigh…

Latest Writing Blog Post is Live: October 2024
Shhhhh.... nevermind that it's mid-November....
Tis story time, children!
Let's Talk Stories
Est. Read Time: 60min
Is it a wonder that this update took me about 3 weeks to write? 😅 [sweat emoji]
This update, I talk about:
The stressors (and my sister's wedding!!!) that caused the update delay in the first place
My drive to get back into working on my story Seduce With Caution
My excitement about @zenmisery writing fic again
The world build and character arcs my playgroup created for our World Wide Wrestling campaign (I go on extensively about this...)
The evolution of my D&D cleric Aubrianne from naive Luisa Madrigal-inspired beefcake to exhausted Mom Friend/Cat Herder.
The five new manhwas I started reading on Webtoon - Marry My Husband - The Duke's Cursed Charm - Office Romance From Hell - Dark Water - Seabird and the Wolf
Updated story stats for the 3 fics I've written this year. How are they still doing numbers!? - You Pretended Not To Care >> (the Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story fandom) - I Think I Like You (Maybe More Than I Should) >> (the Miraculous Ladybug fandom) - Scott's List Item >> (the Hailey's On It! fandom)
(also, yes, I have already started working on my "actual" November update...)

Human Relation: Reducing Stress
How to cope with stressor?
The four As gives us four choices for dealing with a stressor:
Avoid the stressor. We can try to avoid situations that stress us out.
Alter the stressor. Another option in dealing with stress is to try to alter it, if you can't avoid it.
Adapt to the stressor. If you are unable to avoid or change the stressor, getting comfortable with the stressor is a way to handle it.
Accept the stressor. Some stressors are unavoidable. We all have to go to work and manage our home life. So, learning to handle the things we cannot change by forgiving, developing tolerances, and letting going of those things we cannot control is also a way to deal with a stressor.

I know I'm only 19, yet realizing I turn 20 in February fills me with an existensial dread of almost immense proportions. It baffles me, because I logically know that i'm fine. But also...it feels like just yesterday i was in elementary school. Now i'm on my last year of high school. It's too much. My mom dying two years ago really seems to have messed me up, in the sense that it's filled me with this deep-seated dread and loathing for the future. Everything about my future feels uncomfortable, and I hate it. sigh...
