“Only thin, weak thinkers despise fairy stories. Each one has a true, strange fact hidden in it, you know, which you can find if you look.”

Anyone else loved Kaladins time in Shinovar? I really enjoyed how we got some casual scenes with the three of them without all the drama Sanderson usually gives us. Gave me plenty of stuff to draw.
If only I could paint it all ...

This article is deeply hilarious to me because like, who the fuck is David Gerrold? 🤨 Sorry guys, gotta close up shop because Dave here who wrote a singular Star Trek TOS episode in 1967 has the final word on these fictional characters’ relationship status.
#in fact David’s opinion actually cancels out whatever Gene Roddenberry thought#yeah that loser gene who was comfortable with the ambiguity?#unimportant#David is the definitive truth speaker!#he did write tribbles tho so gotta give credit where credit is due#spirk#k/s#star trek#star trek strange new worlds#the premise#my post#gene roddenberry#star trek tos#Star Trek the original series#Star Trek SNW

do yall ever think about bruce/batman!clone danny standing in front of his bathroom mirror after finding out he was a clone and silently tracing his face. The slope of his jaw and point of his chin. The high angle of his cheekbones and the shape of his eyes, the curve of his brow bones and the shape of his nose. The volume of his hair and the way it curls and gets fluffy when it gets too long.
His hair is black the same way a crow's wing is black. His dad's hair is black the same way a black bear's fur is black. His dad's eyes are blue like the ocean is blue. Danny's eyes are blue the same way a glacier is blue.
His dad has a square jaw and straight flat hair, and he tans and gets a face full of freckles when he's out in the sun for too long. Danny burns like a lobster and his face remains untouched. Danny has a sharp jaw and tall cheekbones, and Sam says when he's not smiling there's almost something regal about him. You would never call Jack Fenton "regal" when he's not smiling.
Sam says when he's not smiling he looks scary the same way a stone statue is. Jack Fenton when he's not smiling looks scary the same way that german shepherd staring at you across the street is.
Do you ever think he grew up wondering if he was adopted. Because of course, he has black hair and blue eyes like his dad. But having the same color doesn't make you someone's child.
Or, worse, things he's heard from the other kids and the other parents and even some of his teachers growing up; that he was the product of an affair. And that his dad was just too stupid to notice. And Danny would defend his parents until the day he died, because Jack Fenton wasn't an idiot and Maddie Fenton wasn't a cheater.
But doubt comes in with fickle tongue. his parents swear up and down that he is their child when he asks about either. That Danny just had his grandparents' features, but he was their son and they loved him.
But Danny doesn't look like either of his parents. His mom's eyes are blue like an aquamarine and Jazz's too. And they burn like lobsters in the sun too, but Jazz gets freckles on her face and so does Maddie. And as Danny grows up he doesn't bulk up or get stocky like his dad did, and when he hits puberty he doesn't shoot up like a tree like Jack Fenton did.
He stays small, and they say he's a late bloomer (and he is), or that he just has his mom's height. But he's fast and has good stamina, and some days it feels like he's built entirely different from his family. That the things they went through growing up just didn't apply to him. Jack and Maddie Fenton both had acne and breakouts when they hit puberty, and Jazz inherits it and he's seen the amount of skincare products she keeps on her side of the bathroom.
And then he hits puberty and breaks out maybe once or twice, but his skin stays clear for the most part and the problems and changes his dad went through just don't happen to him.
And the truth is worse than all of the lies.
How horrifying.

... haven't looked this up and I honestly also don't care. The difference between wizards and witches isn't their gender in the marvel universe. Instead, wizards are the non-queers, who also require those weird rings to produce magic. And witches are the queers, who have the magical power within themselves

"Luigi Mangione was framed" is such a gentle and calming phrase to me, it doesn't need anything after it. Sure and likely enough, with the NYCPD alone, sure, sure. And with no trial and no conviction and no real reason to argue, yes, it's right and fair to say it. Luigi Mangione was framed.
You know they're gonna kill him anyway.
#it's so strange and distant the truth here and the end almost predetermined#a man selected to be sacrificed by the police to appease the billionaires#innocence or guilt have been rendered wholly irrelevant in a way because he was simply chosen#now they must ritualistically convict him through a jury that promises explicitly impartiality towards police and health insurance execs#a kind of performative impartiality where the jurors cannot treat police actions as realistically questionable#which must assume that the cruel practices of health insurance are themselves neutral#a jury required not to be skeptical of police or sympathetic to defendants because to acknowledge reality would be biased#just one more public murder by the state

Dean is a lot of things, but super transparent and open isn't one of them. You're contributing to a trendy rewrite of Dean and influencing fandom in ways that just don't reflect what we see on screen.
I get where you’re coming from—Dean isn’t always the most emotionally transparent guy on the surface, and his wariness is definitely a big part of his character. That said, I personally think Dean’s performance of toughness/gruffness pulls the wool over some viewers’ eyes. Dean’s time in Hell, in particular, made him more protective of his vulnerabilities, adding to the tougher exterior he develops over time. It’s not that I don’t think Dean isn't guarded; he absolutely is. But I think he’s far more open than some parts of fandom paint him, and even more open than he sometimes portrays himself. Dean chooses to be selective about who he shows his vulnerabilities to, which is a consistent part of his character.
It's also important to acknowledge those times he’s been open only to get shut down (ahem, especially in Season 7, by Sam, Bobby, and Eliot Ness). I think his close family members are terrified that his grief will lead to his death during a hunt, so they balk at it, encouraging him to lock his emotions down tight.
///
Of note, I think Mary struggles with a similar issue. She says, “I know I can be cold,” yet she’s often incredibly honest about her actual emotions. In fact, Mary is one of the first characters to answer honestly when people ask if she’s okay: “No.” (Dean will in fact mirror her example in 13x06). I even think her “I love you” during her would-be death scene with Billie in 12x09 inspires moments like Cas’s “I love you—I love all of you” during the fight with Ramiel in 12x12.
Like Dean, Mary downplays her own emotional intelligence and her own keenness to both read and reach out to others. All in all, I think these two are far more emotionally generous and intuitive than they give themselves credit for, even if they struggle to acknowledge or articulate it when they get too overwhelmed.
As for what we see on screen... For the record, I like to think that I do a decent job of referencing specific moments in the script or episode when I talk about Dean's emotions or openness. Even if you don't interpret things as I do, I hope you can see my perspective.
/// Just as a point of contrast, I don’t think Sam is as emotionally intuitive as he’s often credited to be, and I think sometimes even Dean gives Sam too much credit. We see this particularly in Don’t You Forget About Me, where Dean instinctively builds rapport with Jody, empathizing with her and even pitching in to help with the dishes as they commiserate over their girls’ behavioral problems. Interestingly, this rears its head again in Ladies Drink Free, with Sam's intellectualizing of emotions being a point of contention.
Dean’s ability to both read people and connect emotionally often goes underappreciated, even by himself.
///
Bonus: I actually think Cas is also far more emotionally intuitive than he gives himself credit for, even with the billions of years of suppress-or-die under his belt. Cas often deploys a distinctly reciprocal style of communication, revealing a personal failing or emotion to encourage others to open up about their own failings. We see it with the original "I'm not a hammer / I have doubts" scene with Dean, we see it in a big way with Jack in Tombstone, and interestingly, we even see it with the news anchor here.
#this is about the dean wearing his heart on his sleeve i'm assuming?#asks#dean vs emotions#but i think what you're seeing in some of our posts is a backlash to this strange caveman-like idea of dean#and the woobification of the two other mains who arguably embody more stereotypical sketches of masculinity when it comes to their emotions#dean stuff#mary stuff#dean and mary#spn vs emotions#mary's not very truthful but she is pretty honest#i know it's a brainfuck#cas tends to do this too#it's underlined in 12x19 how since cas can't tell dean THE truth when he's going to steal the colt he tells him an EMOTIONAL truth

Something I love about the movie is that from the beginning they show you that something bad is happening in Oz related to animals, and that information is being hidden and deleted, with history being rewritten. Even without telling you, in many different and subtle ways they are trying to show the problem there. We can see this in the scene where Elphaba accidentally hits a wall while trying to draw Nessa to her with her powers, and a picture of the Wizard falls from the wall to show that behind it was a picture of a Bear with a book and other animals studying.
It's just like what The Wizard tells Elphaba in Wonderful: people can believe all sorts of things that are not true at certain times they need to believe in something, damaging the truth and everything that does not go with the sought-after ideals. Animals were seen as lesser beings so they needed to be deleted from history in order to show someone who was seen as a superior being.
But also I like that it was Elphaba the one who broke the wall and showed this situation, the hidden truth. It’s a foreshadowing for what will come next and how she’s the one unveiling the truth and fighting for it to be said.
#watched the scene and all I could think about was Wonderful#l like those details#because someone who doesn’t know anything could think ‘why are they hiding this’#and feel that something is strange even before it’s shown#and how elphaba without knowing is fighting to show the truth and the real situation#wicked movie#wicked#elphaba thropp#elphaba wicked#wicked elphaba#wicked witch of the west#wonderful#the wonderful wizard of oz#shiz#shiz university#elphie
