"What about Morgan? What about Pepper? What about the kid? What about-"

He had woken up alone, with a heartache that terrified him more than the ice. He had woken up and pulled the stone close to his chest and yelled and screamed and grieved. "What about me?"

Angry, so angry at time, at Tony, at the world and at the universe, he threw himself into the battle wearing the gauntlet Tony had used to trick him into staying alive, using the shield as a weapon of destruction. It felt good. It felt like finality when Steve used the nanites to swap the stones from right under the Titan's goading nose.

It felt like finality when he used the stones, when he heard their chorus, their power.

It felt like finality when his skin seared clean from his bones.

It felt like the end when he woke up young, freshly defrosted and saw Tony waiting for him, younger than he ever remembered him to be, watching an eternal sunset.

It felt like the end when they embraced.

It felt like the end—and then he opened his eyes to Natasha's face, solemn and a little too knowing.

It felt like the end right there when he tried to feel the missing limb, tried to see beyond the blurry input from his right eye, tried to bear the eternal memory of pain from the stones.

It felt like the end when he woke up in the middle of the night, Tony's name on his lips and tears streaming down his face.

It felt like the end when he realised—there is no end for him.

Not in this lifetime.

Having a secret relationship with someone can be difficult, but there are also times when you enjoy sneaking around and seeing their eyes meet yours when you’re in a crowded room.

At first you weren’t sure if it was a good idea when Steve asked you to have a secret relationship. You were so happy when he told you that he felt the same way, but then he told you that it would be better to keep it a secret. After a while, you understood his concerns and were happy to be his girlfriend.

You both live at the Avengers compound and your rooms aren’t far away from each other, making it easy for you to sneak into each other’s room in the middle of the night. You love going on secret dates that Steve or you plan and cuddling in the evenings. The only person who knows about your relationship is Bucky. Steve asked you if he could tell him and you agreed that it was okay. He helped you keep it a secret and became a good friend to you as well. Some days it’s harder to pretend to you’re not a couple, and sometimes it’s easier.

Today was one of the more difficult ones. Steve was on a long mission, and you missed him a lot. Wanda, who stayed at the compound with you, noticed that you were different than usual and tried to distract you from what was bothering you. You didn’t want to tell her that you missed Steve, so you just told her that you were thinking about the mission that the others have. You were sitting in the living room when you heard the Quinjet land at the compound. Wanda suggested to go outside and welcome the others. That’s what you did, and when you saw Steve standing there you couldn’t resist running over to him and giving him a big hug.

“I missed you so much.” Steve whispered, so only you could hear it. When you moved away you smiled at each other and then realized that the others were there as well and quickly moved away from him and hugged the others too. You all went into the compound and Bucky, Sam and Natasha went to their rooms to freshen up. The second they left the room, Steve gently took your hand.

“Hey sweetheart.” He said softly and you giggled.

“Hey Stevie.” Steve started to smile and took the last step that was between the two of you.

“What if someone sees us?” You asked.

“I don’t care, I need that kiss.” Steve said, put his hand on your cheek and kissed you passionately.

“I love you.” He whispered as he kissed you.

“So much.” Steve continued to say.

“Love you too.” You said when Steve suddenly heard someone coming down the stairs and quickly moved away from you.

“Okay, see you later y/n.” Steve said as he saw Sam enter the room, winking at you.

“Sure, Cap.” You answered, but when he walked away, your smile faded. Sam walked away and so did Steve. You softly touched your lips that Steve had kissed a few minutes ago and felt a tear slide down your cheek. Lately you really hate all this hiding, but it’s for the best. You’re both Avengers and Steve isn’t sure how the Avengers and the world would react to your relationship.

You went to your room and the day passed quickly. Later you had dinner with the others, not sitting near Steve but exchanging glances and smiling at each other. After dinner everyone went to their rooms. You made yourself comfortable in bed and after a while you heard a knock on your door. You walked to the door, opened it and saw Steve smiling at you.

“I missed cuddling with you.” Steve confessed and you started to smile.

“And I missed cuddling with you.” Steve took your hand and then kissed your cheek.

“How about we cuddle now?”

“Sounds perfect.” You said and cuddled and kissed Steve all night, enjoying the loving embrace.

It’s been a few days since Steve got back from the mission and this day was a party. Everyone was having fun, dancing or chatting with other people, but you just stood there and smiled when you saw Steve standing there with Natasha.

“What’s going on between you and y/n?” Natasha asked Steve.

“I don’t know what you mean.” He said nervously and then continued:

“Me and y/n are just friends.”

“You’re kidding, right? Y/n looks at you like you’re her entire world.” Natasha confronted him and Steve went silent as Natasha began to grin.

“Are we that obvious?”

“Maybe not for others, but definitely for me.” Natasha said and Steve shook his head.

"How long have you been dating?" She asked.

“A few weeks.” Steve admitted with a smile.

“I’m happy for you and so would be the others.”

“Thanks Nat, I have to go and find y/n.”

“Of course, go find your girl.” They smiled at each other, and Steve made his way to you. He quickly found you and took your hand as he stood in front of you.

“Come, let’s dance.”

“Are you sure?” You asked and he nodded.

“Okay then let’s go.” You said and Steve led you to the dance floor and started dancing with you. After a while he tucked a hair behind your ear and placed his hand on your cheek.

“Stevie, the others will see us.” You told him.

“I know.” Was all he said before he kissed you. When you turned away you noticed that the other Avengers were looking at you, but they weren’t mad or anything, they were all smiling.

Later Steve confirmed that you’re dating and how happy you’re together. They are all very happy for you, and you and Steve are very glad that they feel this way.

I don't know exactly which comic this is from but the sentiment remains the same.

Steve Rogers has never had a moment's peace in his entire life ever since he got the serum. He's been in fight mode every day. He's been made to follow orders from the 40s and into the future. And before the argument is made that "well, that's what he signed up for" let me stop you right there.

The government and SHIELD saw Steve's morality as one of his weaknesses and capitalized on it. He can never say no, not when innocent lives are at stake. So they keep him on a leash. They keep him working and busy because they know, he can never say no to them.

And the only time he's ever been selfish was when he realized that Bucky was still alive. He literally committed treason for Bucky who ironically was the only man who's ever treated Steve Rogers kindly. The only one who saw Steve for Steve and loved him unconditionally because of it. Even after he got the serum, he never treated Steve like he was some kind of robot. Or some other inanimate object to be ogled & touched and tested.

And Steve himself is fighting with his own sense of morality and his duty to saving innocents. He's not an inherently selfish person but he has those little moments when he just wants to live. Just wants to be Steve Rogers and not Captain America. It's not that he hates the job. But he's sure as hell getting tired of being a lackey for the government and never seeing an ounce of compassion or understanding for it.

He doesn't expect thanks or gratitude. But for once, it would be nice if someone was kind to him. If the world would be kind to him. If the world could give Steve Rogers a chance.

Yeah. That would be nice.

The wedding misadventures of Rick Jones and Marlo Chandler

As the wedding is about to begin, Hulk and Captain America are helping a very nervous Rick Jones into his tuxedo. While in another room, Marlo is being helped into her dress by Betty Ross and some other women. As she looks into the mirror, Marlo is frightened by the brief appearance of Mephisto reflected back at her. Before the ceremony, there were some surprising appearances such as Northstar who happens to be dating Hector (Hulk's friend from the Pantheon) as well as Rahne Sinclair, Guido Carosella and the unmasked version of ROM Space Knight.

As the wedding ceremony begins, the priest who looks like Peter David reads the book to the bride and groom when they are interrupted by the arrival of Drax the Destroyer. Everyone is surprised when Drax presents an invitation, even though he wasn't mailed one. Nonetheless, they have Drax sit next to Adam Warlock. Next, the wedding is interrupted by the supervillains - Wizard, Absorbing Man, Mister Hyde and the Living Laser. However, they have not come not as wedding crashers, but as attendees, as they too have invitations. In reality, the invitations got mixed up so they were given to the wrong people. The Hulk is about to start a fight with them anyway, however, Doc Samson convinces him to stand down. Rick Jones then agrees to allow the villains to stay for the ceremony. Things get even worse when Kree and Skrull ships arrive with more attendees. The special occasion does little to soften the relations between the two races. When one of the Kree tries to start a fight with Talos the Tamed, the Silver Surfer steps in to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Just before the ceremony is over, it is interrupted by a final surprise guest, Mephisto, who has come to claim Marlo's soul. However, he faces opposition from both the Silver Surfer and the Hulk. The Hulk resolves to handle the situation himself, and seeing a bright light in the sky, he admits his belief in the possibility of a higher power. This apparently gives the Hulk the strength to beat Mephisto back, forcing him into retreat. However, Mephisto gloats how this "defeat" is part of a much larger scheme to damn the Hulk. The wedding is quickly completed and Rick and Marlo are made man and wife. During the reception, Marlo is congratulated by the various guests including the surprising appearance of Death of the Endless, who has come to give Marlo a gift. Once Marlo accepts it, Death quickly leaves. Marlo isn't sure who the woman was, but she and Rick open the box and find a beautiful hairbrush inside.
