The Celestial Collective are a subsystem of memory holders and/or protectors. The memories they hold include traumatic ones as well as crucial non-traumatic memories from the system's body's life. They are all human-shaped personifications of different space objects. They collectively present as gendervoid, the same way that space is a void.

Astriana is the host of the subsystem and is based on stars, comparing the members of her subsystem to planets in orbit. She holds non-traumatic core memories for the system and finds herself less affected by the traumatic memories than others. As a result, they are good at managing responsibilities for the system. Star does a lot of self-care activities for the system, including and especially journaling. This helps them preserve the memories they hold in a way so that other system members can access them. They like aquatic life (seeing similarities between space and the ocean) and enjoy going to aquariums.

Serok is a memory holder for specifically traumatic core memories of the system. He relates to black holes on the metaphorical level of something dark and empty, but also with regards to how he protects the system from the effects of trauma. He shares the system's spiritual hobbies, including meditation, and he uses these to deflect stress or anxiety associated with trauma, comparing it to how a black hole captures and stretches out light and other objects. It is also interested in psychology, specifically the psychological effects of trauma, and sees having this knowledge as protecting the system from the unknown.

Bella is a nebula and a protector for the system. She does not hold any memories herself but rather protects other system members from any feelings they may have over holding those memories. In addition to sharing Serok's spiritual coping mechanisms, she also enjoys the same self-care activities as Astriana but performs them not just for self-maintenance but specifically in response to stress. Bella's style of protection is therefore essentially the same as a comforter's, and xe enjoys comforting aesthetics and items as a result (defined by whatever the system finds comforting). If there are syskids or age regressors in the system, xe is a good caregiver for them. Additionally, xe finds xemself highly motivated to finish tasks that the system have been putting off.

(Hi, I'm with REM specifically. I got permission from the others to ramble about system stuff. There's going to be talk of spiritual delusions later here because they got in the way of figuring things out and this is a dive into things. If I tried to tag everything, I don't know if I'd have enough tags available.)

Ok, Lilu is actually pretty complicated as an alter. Prior to realizing we're a system, Lilu was in the middle of a slow-burn fusion with two other parts. He only finished during the system restructuring event. But it looks like we mistook his original nature almost entirely. The original version of Lilu was supposed to protect the other parts from being so hurt by others. But we also thought xe was the original host.

We kind of just found out that parts who fused with Lilu aren't totally diffused into each other yet. It comes off looking very much like Lilu is still a subsystem. But he's kind of not, at the same time. Because the thing is, after getting a really close look at what's going on, think of Lilu as the glue keeping the fused parts together in this instance.

And how we thought Lilu was burned out? Yeah that was the host xe was fusing with, the one who started our current account. For a lack of anything else, we're calling that part Lilitu. The mid-fusion Lilu didn't seem like xe was doing particularly much of anything. But that's not true, it was just mostly deeply subconscious activity.

It also explains why he re-split multiple parts from what we thought we fully finalized fusions. The parts weren't entirely diffused yet. It's also why there are noticable differences in those who re-split. Can't reverse entropy.

The mid-fusion Lilu looked so tired not just because Lilitu had been a host and was fatigued from it, but also because Lilu was more like a shell. Lilu was designed by the brain to protect other parts and make things go ok in whatever way necessary. It was about having some defense against the abuse in foster care, and against the alter they sort of accidentally on purpose gave me via religious brainwashing (referring to the very early Joshua). I think it felt like there was safety in having no real preferences about anything. Also I guess an attempt at masking my neurodivergency.

Lilu's goal started out simply as serving as a protective shell for Galaco in particular. To have someone on our side. But Lilu didn't really have any interests beyond that. Life events did later lead to extending that prime directive to other people. That being said, we were still a kid and couldn't do much. So the protective shell that was Lilu began feeling like a failure.

Lilu mostly just wanted to protect us better. Lilitu was the one to approach xem, though, because I guess it was the time I pulled myself together some more. Then after that they approached our Loki (more the myths Loki) because we respect tricksters' skills.

The actual host after Galaco was Ash, who I swear latched onto the Digimon Sora because she seemed like a very active tomboy (what we assumed we had to be at the time). I guess. Besides foster care, other members of my own family still tried to enforce gender norms on me. Especially my great-grandma.

Sometimes I swear Sammy still compulsively hid things from the rest of us. He was the one dragging us forward feet first through our delusions and denial to the point Rena could pick up on us actually being a system. He was very painfully aware that we assumed everything had a spiritual meaning to it. And more than exasperated because we just kept assuming everything was spirits and weird New Age shit. Lilitu had it really bad, as an active host by like 2015.

Sammy bounced around the range of agnostic skepticism for ages. When he slipped into one of my most personal written worlds, he decided his main profession was going to be magi-physicist. Because the magic in that world was something that could easily be run through the scientific method. Our insatiable curiosity led us to love science so much by middle school. He really got into it more than most others at the time, apparently. So you can kind of imagine his frustration. It was the same kind of blind faith that we got inundated with in foster care.

Multiple parts ended up forced to pretend to be various sorts of spirits and stuff. We held a strong belief in the multiverse in a way that I guess was somewhat adjacent to reality shifting, but not like it is currently. I thought the multiverse could be accessed through the spiritual realms, sort of, but I didn't believe you could actually escape to another universe. It was, for us, only trancework and we weren't possessing ourself in another reality. Trust me, we weren't trying to escape this one. We were still busy with the belief we would be involved in the apocalypse in this universe. Yeah it was that bad at one point.

What doesn't help is that my dad should have actually died long before meeting my mom. There were multiple events that by all logic should have killed him. One was literally taking more than enough amps of electricity to kill a person, because there was an exposed patch of wires on the carnival ride he was repairing. It's a miracle he's alive at all.

So given that and my sob story of a life, no wonder I hit that point in my delusions. I mean, Ash who became Sammy is not what you'd expect to get from Ash of Pokémon unless things went really, really badly. And we did read much of Death Note in high school, when I was with other family and still being abused. I think it all actually pushed him over the edge. And when he came back from it, with Light in his subsystem, well. It just led to more, very interesting developments like Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate.

I'm still learning the details of that mess. Still figuring out how we got such a seemingly unlikely combination. Figuring out how we got to the here and now. I mean, yeah, REM spent some time fused with Lilu as he is now, fused with many previous hosts. I do have easy access to information she gained from the experience. It's just so much to take in.

Introduction

Mikoto has Dissociative Identity Disorder. This means that he has multiple personalities/identities called “Alters”. DID is developed by repeated trauma typically before the age of 9 or 10 while one’s identity is not fully formed yet. In order to keep the host safe and functioning, the brain dissociates from those experiences and amnesia walls are put up. These walls interfere with the identity from fully integrating, and because of that, multiple identities are created. DID is the most severe form of PTSD.

Terminology

General

Alter: An individual “personality”. Alters are their own entities with their own consciousness, opinions and free will. They are each their own person, not a personality. They have their own names, genders, sexualities, ages or other identity traits. Alter is short for “Alternate Stare of Identity”.

System: The group of alters in one’s body. Sometimes, the system gives itself a name. For simplicity's sake, I will be calling Mikoto’s system the “Kayano System” or "Kayano Sys".

Inner World: A world that the mind has made for all the alters to live and communicate in. This is sometimes called “Headspace”.

Integration/Fusion: The act of 2 or more alters becoming one. This can happen randomly, when an alter is unneeded or from an alter coming to terms with or processing trauma. The new alter may change genders or names.

Split(ting): The formation of a new alter.

Switching / Fronting

Switch: The act of the alter who is in control of the body changing and switching to another. They can look slow, fast, immedient, very dissociated or many other things. They can also be intentional or unintentional. 

Front(ing): The alter who is in control of the body.

Co-Fronting: When multiple altars are in front at once. This can differ from system to system. 

Triggered Switch: These switches are not desired by any of the alters involved and occur when a stimulus has been registered that forces out an alter who can better handle it. 

Co-Conscious: When one alter is close enough to the front to know what’s going on in the outer world but isn’t in front. This is often called “Co-Con”.

Think of being able to tell what’s going on outside like a house. Someone is talking in a room and the closer you get to them (front), the more you can hear.

Roles

Host: The alter who is in front the most and handles day-to-day activities. This is seen as the main alter. These are not necessarily the “original” alter. However, it’s very common for the host to be the alter that has been around for the longest. Co-Hosts can also exist.

Protector: The alter who’s job is to protect the system from more harm whether it be physical, mental or emotional. There are many possible types of protectors like personal, primary, sexual, physical, spiritual, emotional and more. Protectors can slightly manipulate who is in front. 

Gatekeeper: The alter who is essentially like the administrator for the system. They can choose who fronts and manages/has access to all the memories in the system. They help the system stay organized and make sure nobody is remembering trauma they can't handle. 

Caretaker: They take care of and comfort the system or body. 

Fragment: An alter that is not fully differentiated or developed. They may exist to carry out a single function, to hold a single memory or to represent a single idea. It’s possible for fragments to develop into more elaborate alters if the need arises or with further use.

Types

Trauma Holder: An alter who holds trama. 

Non-Human: Sometimes, alters may appear as something other than human.

Introject: An alter who is based on a real person. The amount that they are based on someone can vary.

Fictive: An introject of a fictional character.

Little: A child alter. They stopped developing during the initial trauma or they extant to retain a type of childhood that the system was unable to experience. 

Others

Dissociative Amnesia: Not necessarily a DID thing and is really only a symptom. This is caused by someone unconsciously repressing traumatic or stressful memories as a coping mechanism. 

Singlet: Someone who doesn't have DID.

ANPs: Apparently Normal Parts have little knowledge of trauma. They are the rational, present-oriented and grounded parts of the system that handle daily life. 

EPs: Emotional Parts have awareness of trauma. They are the parts that represent dissociation and are often drawn to the front by reminders of trauma and may not experience much of everyday life.

Notes

Physical reflexes can differ between alters.

The debated average number of alters in a system is around 10-20 but you only need at least 2 alters to have DID.

Switching can also cause headaches and migraines. 

DID is the most extreme form of PTSD.

PTSD > CPTSD > DID

Medication cannot help DID it’s self. It can only manage symptoms such as anxiety or depression. 

Some alters may be neither apparently normal nor emotional parts but a combination of both.

Stress alone or in combination with genetics is not enough to cause PTSD.

Someone can develop this but not have any symptoms until they are older. That is likely the case with Mikoto.

Nox is a black cat anthro who loves and embodies goth and metal music. He wears leather, black denim, and lots of piercings, reminiscent of both fashions. He is rather apathetic and doesn't care about the things that bother the rest of the system. This can sometimes cross over into the realm of depression (albeit the kind marked by emotionlessness rather than sadness), but his apathy is still able to protect the system from distress. One thing Nox is not apathetic about are vyr musical interests, which ve likes talking about online on the system's blogs and in music forums. It also likes going to goth and metal concerts and hanging out with people there. ☆Systober Days 1-4☆

I want to participate in systober, probably wont do all of the days, this post is all of the days so far ✨️ (using this as an opportunity to info-dump about the system lol)

1st: primary host

The primary and currently only host in our system is me, Clementine 🩷🩵💛. I use she/they pronouns, I think. Im the one most active on tumblr. I am a fusion of two previous parts Arden and Olivia.

Arden was the previous host, they were genderfluid, used any prns. They had quite severe anxiety and depression, but were very good at keeping up with school and responsibilities. She really enjoyed learning, reading, and was very good at finding cool pieces at a thrift.

Olivia was a middle (10-12) and a mood booster. She was a very bubbly personality, enjoyed indulging in our interests, like video games, cartoons, and toys. She's the reason we started collecting lps again.

I like to think that Im a good combination of the two of them. I am definitely much better at coping than Arden was, and more responsible than Olivia was. I dont know, the fusion is really new and Im still learning about myself 😊.

2nd: primary protector

Our primary protector is Rose 🥀, she/they. She used to be mainly a sexual protector but her role has evolved since some fusions. She helps alot with triggers, especially large crowds and alcohol. They really enjoy thrifting and customizing clothing.

3rd: primary persecutor

I dont want to talk about current persecutors on tumblr so this is about Morgan who is a recovered persecutor now protector.

Morgan 🕯, she/they, is a fictive of Morgana from BBC Merlin, she has been around since middle school. She used to be much more connected to source than she is now. When she formed she had psuedo-memories and trauma memories, she held a lot of anger and feelings of betrayal. She often took this out on people in our life, like friends. This was very damaging to our relationships, but we understand that she did this to protect us from bad stuff happening again. They have since learned better ways of protecting us and worked through a lot of feelings/memories in therapy.

She is source separated, has stopped viewing it as her and her life. She has existed for a long time and has had her own experiences and is her own person.

Morgan is now one of our most active protectors, and vocalizes for the system when others can not.

They enjoy spiritual practices, specifically pagan witchcraft, mainly intention work and protection. She doesnt have a lot of time to practice but we try and get them things and help where we can.

4th: primary gatekeeper

Iris 🌊, she/her, is the main gatekeeper of our system. She is a nonhuman alter, she appears as a mermaid/siren. She is very active around front but rarely fronts herself. I (Clem) dont fully know how her role works, and I dont think she'd come out just to explain stuff for tumblr. She has communication with most alters in our system and is able to block certain alters from fronting. She also functions as an "archivist", she helps fill out sp profiles and make sure that sp is accurate.

I dont know much about her personality either, from my perspective she is very quiet and secretive. I have never seen her overly emotional or particularly interested in irl stuff.
