Marlene and James ran into each other while sneaking out of the slytherin dorms one night and that's how they were the first people they told about their respective relationships
they covered for each other all the time after that
and Sirius, Remus, Peter, Lily and Mary were so pissed off because how the hell do James and Marlene know all this slytherin gossip all of a sudden?

Prompt 20 - Established Relationship
@wolfstarmicrofic May 20, word count 546
“Godric, I love you,” Sirius moaned into Remus’s ear as he clambered onto his lap in the booth they sat at with their friends in the three broomsticks.
“Oh no you don’t!” Marlene burst out, grabbing the back of Sirius’s robes. “It is too early for sappy Sirius to make an appearance. I am not sitting next to you speaking sweet nothing's into Remus’s ear at full volume because you can't figure out whispering when I am this sober.” Sirius reached over and pushed a glass of something that smelled like paint stripper in front of Marlene.
“Then hurry up and get drunk, so I can make out with my boyfriend.”
An hour later, they were all a bit worse for wear and Sirius had somehow lost his shirt. He couldn’t even see it. He turned his bleary head to look behind him and found himself eye to eye with Dorcas. She was sitting on Marlene’s lap, giggling as she whispered something into Marlene’s ear and stroked her fingers up and down Marlene’s arm. Marlene had her hand splayed across Dorcas’s thigh, the tips of her fingers disappearing up her short skirt.
“Oi,” Sirius complained. “If I can’t be soppy,"
“I said sappy,” Marlene corrected.
“Whatever,” Sirius stuck out his tongue. “Either way, if I can’t be, then neither can you.”
“Oh hush, we’re nowhere near as bad as you two when you get going.” Marlene scoffed. Sirius turned to grin wickedly at Remus, who stole a kiss from his boyfriend and winked at him before he took another sip of his drink.
“I don’t think you can chastise us, Marlene, when James and Lily are at the same table. Together, the four of them looked across the booth. James’s glasses were hanging on for dear life from one ear. His hair was completely upright and looked hilarious and Lily, like Sirius, and Dorcas, was sitting on her lover's lap. She had her hands fully pushed under James’s jumper and pressed into his chest.
Sirius grimaced, he was almost certain he’d just seen James’s tongue pushing against the inside of Lily’s cheek.
“There isn’t enough alcohol in Hogsmeade for me to sit here with that going on. Fancy a stroll, my love?” He asked Remus.
“Thought you’d never ask.” Remus replied, gathering their things, Sirius’s shirt magically reappearing. He threw down a few Galleons and they made their escape.
“Hey! Wait for us!” Marlene cried out and raced across the pub and out the door, dragging Dorcas behind her. James and Lily were blissfully unaware that they’d been ditched.
Remus wrapped an arm around Sirius and Sirius snuggled in close to his warmth.
“Shall we head back to the dorm while James is otherwise engaged? There’s something I want to try.” Remus had that look in his eye that drove Sirius wild.
“Bye guys,” He called over his shoulder as he allowed Remus to lead him towards the edge of the village. He was so lucky to have Remus in his life. He felt so loved and wanted in a way even James couldn’t give him. Why did the castle have to be so far away? He wanted to know what Remus had planned. Whatever it was, he knew it would be fun. It always was.

Dorcas knew something was wrong when Evan showed up at her door one night. At the start of the war, right before she graduated all three of her-the boys took the dark mark. She wanted, desperately, for there to be more to the story, but if there was they never told her. So when she found out she was furious told them all she never wanted to speak to them ever again, and the only time they would see her face is from behind bars or in a shallow grave. They respected that and before she knew it, its been over a year and she missed them like she misses a limb. but she does not regret her decision.
So when one night evan shows up alone, dorcas knows something is wrong. she nearly curses him outright when he asks to come in but he offers his wand to her and doesn't even flinch when she rips it out of his hand. idly she considers snapping it. Evan didn't look good, he was more wirey than before the war and he looked depressed. his eyes were red.
he came into her apartment and looked around in curiosity, right he had never seen her apartment they had stopped speaking a week before she moved in. he sat on her couch and she pretended not to be hurt about how right it felt to have him here. then he spoke, "We wanted to tell you, I swear we did but he told us that if you knew and someone found out you would be a target. You and marlene and your family. We tried Dorcas we tried so fucking hard but were losing and we don't know what to do and you, your the most powerful witch we know and Reg-" he rambled frantically and when he tried to say Regulus' name his voice broke and Dorcas was filled with this horrible sense of dread. She knew why Evan was here but she didn't want to believe it. She needed to hear it out loud but merlin she didn't want to.
"Evan, what are you doing here."
"Regulus is dead."
"Oh."
And the worst part is, Dorcas knew, they all knew that Regulus would not make it through this war. One way or another, no matter what side, this always ended with Regulus dead. She feels a stab of resentment for the dead boy.
"Were spies, we um have been for years. Regulus stole something from Voldemort, he uh he died to get it. He told us if he didn't make it back to bring it to you, that you would have the power to destroy it. It's with Pandora at the moment, we try to keep it moving so theres less of a chance it can be tracked, but we wanted to tell you now. I'm sorry. And I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you, I know you never wanted to see me again but Pandora is telling Sirius and Barty the Potters." Evan was crying, and he was desperately trying to hide it. Then Dorcas realized she was crying to. They sat there and cried and cried, it could have been for hours the two of them cried.
She clears her throat and looks at the clock, "Marlene will be home soon, you should leave. And uh tell Pandora she, alone, can bring whatever it is over tomorrow afternoon." Dorcas wants to forgive them but she can't, not yet. And Regulus is dead, it doesn't feel real except for the way it's all too real.
Evan nods, "of course, whatever you need." he holds his hand for his wand and turns towards the door when he gets it, but hesitates. "I know I have no right to ask this, but Cas, can I have a hug?"
She's up before he finishes his sentence and pulling him into a hug "Sure Ev." she whispers into his ear as she rocks them, their the same height now, she used to have an inch on him. he huffs what might be a laugh. and before she knows it their letting go and he's almost out the door.
"See ya around Meadowes?"
"See you around Rosier."
And then he's gone and if she closes her eyes she can pretend that he was never here at all. That somewhere in the world the three boys are out there getting drunk and ruining peoples lives and growing up without her. The boys are spies and lied to her for years and Regulus is dead. She sinks down the closed door and sobs.
(She never does see Evan around, he died two months later)

letters
dorlene july event, 285 words, @enbysiriusblack
In one of the drawers of the year one classroom, there was a massive assortment of multi-coloured magnetic letters which the kids used to learn spellings. Or, in Marlene’s case, mess around with.
Marlene crammed them all onto her magnetic whiteboard until there was no space, tried sticking them on the back, created new words that looked good because all the colours matched, wrote her name out like a mantra to be chanted at ceremonies—
“What are you doing?” Marlene’s deskmate, Dorcas, peered into Marlene’s personal space. “We’re supposed to be spelling ‘delicious.’”
“You’re delicious,” Marlene snapped, glaring at the nosy Dorcas while she turned her board away.
“No, I’m not. I’m Dorcas,” Dorcas said seriously.
“And I’m busy,” Marlene slammed letters onto her board with a frown.
“Doing the wrong thing,” Dorcas pointed easily, looking highly amused.
“You’re wrong.”
Dorcas hummed. “Your comebacks are interesting.”
Marlene paused, and looked up at Dorcas, who was smiling at her amicably. Marlene narrowed her eyes. “…Thank you?”
“You’re welcome.” Dorcas’s smile became a grin, and she flipped her board to show Marlene. “Look, I wrote my name out like you did, so now you’ll remember I’m Dorcas.”
Marlene huffed, sticking her nose in the air. “My name is better than yours.”
“Marlene,” Dorcas tilted her head, trying it on her tongue. She spelled it on her board, showing Marlene with proud, puppy-like joy.
Marlene was starting to feel bad. Dorcas did seem nice. “Your… name is also nice,” she admitted grudgingly. “Here,” she took Dorcas’s board.
When she returned it, Dorcas beamed at her.
The letters ‘DORLENE’ had been placed across the centre, and Marlene returned the smile, “I combined our names, ‘cause they’re both very good.”

So we all know most Hogwarts students hate Filch. BUT that makes me sad, and I really want to think that somebody, somewhere was kind to that old man, so:
I’ve excluded James and Sirius for being (imo) obviously incorrect, but feel free to defend their honor!

Dorcas felt someone grabbing her, fingers almost nailing her arm.
"Where do you think you're going?" Nick hissed.
Once, Dorcas had felt protected by Nick Mulciber. Once, she had trusted him. Once, he told her he was always going to have her back.
Dorcas had lived blindly all her live. She had been somewhat comfortable amongst rich, fame and luxuries. She had been surrounded by people who only cared about superficial stuff and what others thought of them. Only forced to believe that live was what her mother and step brother said.
But Dorcas felt stupid now. Her crystal had been broken. Finally.
"You don't belong with them Dorki, you belong with us" Nick prompted.
Dorcas turned to look at the group of Gryffindors. They were ready to protest against Homophobia and bigotry. They were full of live, decorated in colors, with determination. It was so much better amongst them. They respected each other. They didn't talk shit about each other. They weren't superficial at all. Even if rich blokes like Black and Potter were there.
Dorcas stared at Marlene McKinnon. Her Marlene. It had been because of her that Dorcas had opened her eyes. The wild side of McKinnon had taught her to live, to speak up, to fight for what she believed in.
Dorcas had fallen in love with that girl and all of her chaotic world. It was nothing about what was expected. Nothing about following the rules or about what was considered wrong or right. Only what was on one's heart. Bravery.
For a second, as both girls stared into each other's eyes, Dorcas felt like the rest disappeared.
She would follow Marlene McKinnon anywhere. It was thanks to her that Dorcas could finally be herself.
Dorcas pulled away from her step brother's grab.
"Not anymore, Nick" she spat defiantly. Something she had never dared to do before "Not anymore"
Of course Nick and the rest of the Slytherin gang, her so called friends, were shocked to see Dorcas's reaction.
She ignored them as she walked towards the other group. The Gryffindors grinned at her, welcoming her. Dorcas kissed Marlene in front of everyone. She could feel the stares. The judgment. She didn't care.
Marlene granted her a beautiful smile. And that was enough.
"Ready?" she asked.
Dorcas smirked "Let's shut up some bigots"

Sirius, however, had obviously changed. His hair was far longer than she had ever seen it be, reaching lower than his shoulders, and silver glinted in his ears and nose. He was wearing red pants and a white coat (Why would one need a coat during summer?), paired with a pair of black shoes and a white, V-neck shirt, exposing two thin scars along his chest. His fingers were adorned with rings, and Narcissa smiled at the small mole above his lip, the one she always used to draw on with eyeliner.
“You’re dressed like you’re coming from the North Pole,” Narcissa remarked, a snarkiness in her voice; she loved doing that to Sirius when they were younger, watching him get all riled up over nothing and then blaming him for it. It used to be one of her favorite activities.
“Good seeing you too, Narcissa,” He smiled, an air of superiority to him, leaning down (When had he gotten that tall? He had to be over 6’0”.), and kissed her cheek delicately. “You haven’t changed one bit, have you? Once bitchy and sour, always bitchy and sour.”
“Learnt from the best.” She smirked. Sirius chuckled, and, whether she wanted to admit it or not, she had missed it, missed Sirius’ rebellious elegance, missed what her family used to be.
narcissa is longing for the sea, but is afraid of the water (and, maybe, the sea is inside her), chapter 3: a reunion

the only star in the sky | a study of sirius black, circa 1979 | 7.8k | rated: t | sirius & lily + sirius & marlene + sirius & regulus | canon-divergent
Five days in, 1979 is already a difficult year for Sirius Black. Wartime is as bleak as British winter, but at least all his friends are still alive.
Or: Sirius Black spends an afternoon grocery shopping with Lily Evans as his world falls apart. The next day, he starts to repair it.
.
Here is my Fandom Trumps Hate gift for @annanother-thing, an exploration of Sirius Black's friendships with the women in his life, particularly Lily Evans and Marlene McKinnon, with a side of brotherly angst.
Hint: the brotherly angst has something to do with the canon-divergent tag. There is also background dorlene, who are a married couple well-established as prime war targets in their late forties.
Enjoy!

With the War hanging around the shadows, hiding into the dark corners of minds, it creates misery for everyone. Lives are destroyed, families are torn apart, blood is spilled, and the horrors of nightmares become true. Children, barely out of their teenage years, just entering adulthood, bide their lives to one of the sides. Ink gets pressed into skin, a needle digging down deep as it prevents the ink from leaving. Clothes become uniforms, a symbol of honor showing off proudly at the sleeve. Parents read letters, shaky handwriting flooding into their minds as they read their children has passed. Friends die, wounds too deep for saving, lungs already wasted, heart slowly dying. And the day continues, the War needing to be dealt with as trauma stains their once pure minds.
Or.
Wizarding AU turned Muggle. Unrequited lovers, unspoken words, tragedy all around.

Lily used to love Christmas but now it’s just a horrible reminder of how much she misses her sister. The girls do everything to show Lily that she may no longer have her sister but she does have family with them and it doesn’t quite make up for everything but she’s so grateful for their love and she always ends up having a beautiful Christmas day.

dorlene july event, 604 words, @enbysiriusblack
School was starting. It was Marlene’s first day at Pottermore Primary in her new shoes and chequered blue summer dress, old enough to leave the nursery and start actual school. The September morning was still warm, remnants of August heat dappling the street yellow, the trees tinged orange, the air humid and peach-tinted, the breeze mild and temperate.
Due to the friendly nature of the small, close-knit village, the five-minute walking distance to the school, and the fact that she’d been running about by herself since the moment she was able to, Marlene was making the journey on her own. It was giving her an insane adrenaline rush. She charged down the path, grinning toothily at the neighbours who were wishing her luck.
She turned the corner, saw the park, and, feeling the power of childhood freedom, swerved towards it. Instead of opening the gate like a lifeless adult would, she chose the adventure of climbing over the fence, books and pens rattling in her rucksack as she swung herself onto the grass.
Landing on her feet, after years of practice, she cast a cursory glance over the park as if it were her territory.
On one of the swings, there sat another girl. New shoes, blue dress, but while Marlene had ditched her blazer because they were too restrictive, this girl was wearing a pristinely ironed blazer, buttoned up, school logo shining, collar perfectly straight. And she was reading a book.
Marlene scrunched her nose and walked towards her. “Why are you reading?” She asked bluntly.
The girl looked up at her with huge umber eyes, and then down at a watch neatly centred on her wrist. It was a cool watch. Like an antique. It was a shade lighter than the dark brown of her skin, with geometric patterns engraved along the border. Marlene found herself thinking that the girl and the watch looked good together. They were both… parts of nature. The wooden watch and the quiet girl.
“I’m reading because school doesn’t start in ten minutes yet,” she tapped her watch.
“Huh,” Marlene acknowledged. “I know better things we can do in that time.”
“Like what?” The girl blinked at her dubiously.
Marlene grinned. “Let’s go over there!” Then she was running, and after a moment, the girl chased after her. Marlene threw a smirk over her shoulder, then slammed on her brakes at the most unexpected time. The girl ran into her, and they both toppled to the ground, Marlene’s chest hurting from how much she was laughing.
“Got you,” she wheezed.
The girl frowned, picked up a spider from the ground, and placed it on Marlene’s hair. Marlene shrieked, got to her feet in panic, and began flailing madly.
“Got you,” the girl echoed smugly, sitting back on her elbows as if she were watching a show.
Marlene narrowed her eyes. She was half-impressed though. This girl wasn’t scared of spiders. Spiders. Even though she might have been a bit of a perfect nerd, she had proper guts. So Marlene smiled and held out a hand. “Well, now that we’ve got each other, I think we have to be friends.”
The girl grinned, taking her hand as she rose back up. “Okay, Marlene. Sounds nice. I’m Dorcas and my watch is called Dakika.” She waved it in Marlene’s face, then walked towards her bag. “Dakika says it’s time for school. Are you coming?”
Marlene darted after her, “How did you know my name? Why have you named your watch? Do you want to play with me after school? Can we sit next to each other in class? And—”
