Confession: I hate pickpocketing. I hate that there is always a 10% chance to fail no matter what I do. Nothing else in Skyrim is gated like this it's JUST pickpocketing.

I've (think) I've figured out how BG3's pickpocketing rolls work

Compare the two below, with and without gloves that gives a +1:

It seems that the game first takes into account modifiers inherent to the character as well as modifiers from items.

+4 Proficiency +4 Expertise in Sleight of hand +5 DEX modifier +1 Sleight of Hand from gloves

+14 total. Then, it subtracts that from the DC, which is 21, to get 7 as the Target number, which is what you need to beat with your dice and the rest of the modifiers you have.

In the second image I took off the gloves. The DC is 20, but the Target is still 7, which means the total is now +13 without the gloves.

So it seems the Target is the number you have to beat with your dice plus I think 'variable' modifiers like +1d4 Guidance and 'conditional' modifiers like Astarion's +1 Happy. Examples with both below

TLDR: Target = needs to be beat by dice roll + variable/conditional modifiers Number in circle = your actual dice roll

Diana has so many stories that she shares with us this week including her early days working with her then-husband, Dick Zimmerman, then how Cary Grant encouraged her to form the junior program at the Magic Castle, and many stories about the late Siegfried and Roy. She was a close confidant to the illusionists and shares some “behind the scenes” stories from Little Bavaria to “the Incident” that ended their Las Vegas run.

It started off as a joke.

No really, it was something that Jason felt the Bats would laugh about, while also helping out some street kids along the way.

He put out a job for the kids of Crime Alley, anyone who could pickpocket the entire Wayne family would get all necessities paid for them by Red Hood until they turned 18.

Most kids that saw the challenge would think it was a joke.

Most kids that believed it was real would think it wasn't even worth trying.

Most kids that tried would be caught immediately, and subsequently get a meal paid for by their Wayne of choice and suddenly have some doors opened for them, because Jason knew his family and knew they had a soft spot for kids.

Except the one thing he didn't account for was Danny Fenton, who most certainly was not most kids.

Having a terrible memory is no fun.

It means that, among other (possibly worse and more serious) things, I am doomed to wonder what sort of ridiculous college assignment required me to pickpocket my friends out in public. What was the purpose of it? What did we write down on our papers afterwards?

Weirdly enough, I remember catching this one guy's eyes after picking my friend's pocket, knowing they knew what I did, and then watching them do nothing about it whatsoever.

And no, I didn't go to crime school or anything absurd like that. And yes, I believe my friends were all in on it, especially the ones getting pickpocketed. I believe I got a turn being pickpocketed as well.
