wild things
It's going to be fascinating seeing the two of them in full S+R glam drag. With tigers, of course.
(I thought the age gap between the actors was larger than it is, but it's only 10 years, and Siegfried and Roy were five years apart themselves, so that's not a huge deal. Plus, I mean, Jude Law...)

Wild Things

Between the fame, the tigers, and the tragedy, who were they really? Jude Law and Andrew Garfield bring Siegfried & Roy's real story to life in Apple TV's Wild Things, where illusion meets reality.

Summary of Art 2023 This year was even less productive than last year, but I did manage to put something out. And for the first time ever, there are unposted sketches for two months. (I add a date when I do traditional sketches now)

912: Diana Zimmerman - The Enchantress
Diana Zimmerman is an enchanting woman in every sense of the word: personality, charm, abilities, looks, intelligence, skill, and so much more. She has led a life of magic like few other women. And she is being recognized for her achievements by being inducted to the Los Angeles Times Global Magicians Hall of Fame on July 9th, 2025. Married at 19 to Dick Zimmerman, magician and creative genius, she performed around the world on television and stage with her one-woman performance. She traveled with a giant gramophone then later switched to a thumb tie and pick pocketing. She developed and still works with the Magic Castle Junior Program (which just celebrated their 50th year) and is the author of several books of fantasy. But she also authored the definitive collector’s edition of the Siegfried and Roy book.

Diana has so many stories that she shares with us this week including her early days working with her then-husband, Dick Zimmerman, then how Cary Grant encouraged her to form the junior program at the Magic Castle, and many stories about the late Siegfried and Roy. She was a close confidant to the illusionists and shares some “behind the scenes” stories from Little Bavaria to “the Incident” that ended their Las Vegas run.

Okay I'm sure there's better people zo explain this out there but my main skill is googling things so here goes
Tumblr media
In Korea, the painting "Jakhodo" (in leopard paintings, "Jakpyodo"; "pyo" means leopard) is about a magpie and a tiger. The letter "jak" means magpie; "ho" means tiger; and "do" means painting. Since the work is known to keep away evil influence, there is a tradition to hang the art piece in the house in the first month of the lunar calendar. On a branch of a green pine tree sits a magpie and the tiger (or leopard), with a humorous expression, looks up at the bird. The tiger in "Jakhodo" does not look anything like a strong creature with power and authority. Kkachi horangi, paintings depicting magpies and tigers, was a prominent motif in the minhwa folk art of the Joseon period. 'Kkachi pyobeom paintings depict magpies and leopards. In kkachi horangi paintings, the tiger, which is intentionally given a ridiculous and stupid appearance (hence its nickname "idiot tiger" 바보호랑이), represents authority and the aristocratic yangban, while the dignified magpie represents the common people. Hence, kkachi horangi paintings of magpies and tigers were a satire of the hierarchical structure of Joseon's feudal society. (From: "Cultural Depictions of Tigers", Wikipedia)
I've seen the Tiger and the Bird called Horangi and Kkachi and suspected that those weren't so much names as again descriptors, but that's so cute. This is my idiot tiger and my classy bird <3 they are a satire of society as I knew it when I was alive, i.e. the exact conditions that pushed me into becoming a demon. do you want to pet him

Something something Simpsons did it first.

Siegfried & Roy getting attacked by their tiger was one of the most "yeah that was definitely going to happen someday" events in history but the best part was afterwards when they started earnestly telling everyone "no, you don't understand. The tiger was trying to help. It noticed that he was coincidentally having a stroke and was trying to drag him off stage to get medical help. The tiger did this because he loves us" to the collective response of "...sure...yeah...sounds like something tigers would do"

I started drawing this picture of Siegfried and Roy about a year and a half ago, and I never liked it, so I redrew and recolored it many times, until I decided to just finish it a few days ago.
