912: Diana Zimmerman - The Enchantress
Diana Zimmerman is an enchanting woman in every sense of the word: personality, charm, abilities, looks, intelligence, skill, and so much more. She has led a life of magic like few other women. And she is being recognized for her achievements by being inducted to the Los Angeles Times Global Magicians Hall of Fame on July 9th, 2025. Married at 19 to Dick Zimmerman, magician and creative genius, she performed around the world on television and stage with her one-woman performance. She traveled with a giant gramophone then later switched to a thumb tie and pick pocketing. She developed and still works with the Magic Castle Junior Program (which just celebrated their 50th year) and is the author of several books of fantasy. But she also authored the definitive collector’s edition of the Siegfried and Roy book.

Diana has so many stories that she shares with us this week including her early days working with her then-husband, Dick Zimmerman, then how Cary Grant encouraged her to form the junior program at the Magic Castle, and many stories about the late Siegfried and Roy. She was a close confidant to the illusionists and shares some “behind the scenes” stories from Little Bavaria to “the Incident” that ended their Las Vegas run.

Cine: Pride (2014)

Selena Gomez
Tumblr media
“Come a little closer 'cause you lookin' thirsty” Chegue um pouco mais perto, porque você está parecendo com sede
Thirsty significa literalmente "com sede", mas também é uma gíria muito usada na gringa pra dizer que aquela pessoa quer fazer sexo. Não sei dizer exatamente qual o contexto que usaram aqui, mas, considerando a música num geral, podemos especular.
Tumblr media
“I'ma make it better, sip it like a Slurpee” Eu vou tornar isso melhor, beba que nem um Slurpee
Tumblr media
“Snow cone chilly, get it free like Willy (Oh) In the jeans like Billie, you be poppin' like a wheelie” Cone de neve frio, pegue de graça como Willy Em jeans como Billie, você vai estourar como um cavalo de pau (?)
"Wheelie" é o termo usado pra se referir a quando o carro/moto faz um "cavalo de pau". De acordo com Bekuh Boom, uma das compositoras, "snow cone chilly" é uma referência a jóias e a ter uma personalidade "fria". "Free like Willy" é uma referência ao filme Free Willy e a parte de "Billie" e jeans é uma referência à Billie Jean, do Michael Jackson*
Tumblr media
“Even in the sun, you know I keep it icy You could take a lick, but it's too cold to bite me” Mesmo no sol, você sabe que eu mantenho gelado Você pode dar uma lambida, mas é muito frio pra me morder
Tumblr media
“Brr, brr, frozen, you're the one been chosen Play the part like Moses, keep it fresh like roses” Brr, brr, congelado, você é o escolhido Faça seu papel como Moisés, mantenha fresco como rosas
Tumblr media
“Look so good, yeah, look so sweet (Hey) Lookin' good, enough to eat” Parece tão bom, é, parece tão doce Parece bom o suficiente para comer
O cara é bom o suficiente pra comer...
Tumblr media
“Diamonds on my wrist, so he call me ice cream You could double-dip 'cause I know you like me” Diamantes no meu pulso, então ele me chama de sorvete Você pode dar um mergulho duplo, porque eu sei que você gosta de mim
"Double-dip" significa literalmente "mergulho duplo", mas também é uma expressão usada pra quando você coloca o talher duas vezes no mesmo recipiente, tipo se eu tenho um porte com brigadeiro, eu como duas colheradas, mas deixo lá o resto. Basicamente, dá a entender que eles podem fazer sexo mais de uma vez
Tumblr media
“You're the cherry piece, just stay on top of me So I can't see nobody else for me, no” Você é a peça de cereja, só fique em cima de mim, então Eu não posso ver mais ninguém pra mim, não
Tumblr media
“Get it, flip it, scoop it, do it like that, oh yeah, oh yeah Like it, love it, lick it, do it like la-la-la, oh yeah” Pegue, vire, tire uma colherada, faça assim, oh yeah, oh yeah Goste, ame, lamba, faça como la-la-la oh yeah
Bekuh diz que é uma referência à sorveteria Cold Stone, já que os tamanhos deles são "like it", "love it" e "gotta have it", e eles "viram" e colocam colheradas de doces no meio do sorvete. O "gotta have it" (preciso ter) ser substituído pra "lick it" (lamba), pra mim parece que foi bastante intencional exatamente pra deixar mais sexual
Tumblr media
“Chillin' like a villain, yeah, ra-ra-ra” Relaxando como um vilão, yeah, ra-ra-ra
Especulações que essa linha é uma referência ao Mr Freeze, do Batman, mas nada oficial
Tumblr media
“Mona Lisa kinda Lisa Needs an ice cream man that treats her (Hey)” Mona Lisa, tipo a Lisa Precisa de um sorveteiro que dê uns mimos pra ela
Tradução: Lisa quer um sugar daddy
Tumblr media
“Get the bag with the cream If you know what I mean” Pegue a bolsa com o creme, se é que você me entende
.....
“And I'm nice with the cream If you know what I mean” E eu sou boa com o creme, se é que você me entende

Day 192: Tuesday July 11, 2017 - “KaZoo”
This day had many sights and turns.  Worked all day in Flint providing good solid onsite training...watching the clock not for 5 to roll around to be done, but more for 5 to roll around so I could start.   As soon as I was done, it was a race to Kalamazoo.  A circus to get to the hotel, and then to the airport, and get my little one way one day rental car with no cruise control, and zip down the interstate at somewhere between 80 and 85 mph making great time to Kalamazoo where upon arriving at James and Lisa’s house I delivered goodies of banana ketchup and One Well Brew - a great new brewery in this beer town that I zipped into for a chance encounter with an old friend and introduction to a place I’ll have to wait to return to.   Lisa loved her ketchup, and they returned the favor with gifts of Menna’s Joint and Sweetwaters Donuts, a traditional run that makes finding a way to Kalamazoo worthwhile; maybe the best college food duo in the MidWest.   We brought it back to sip the good brew and have a good loving fat moment loving the guilty pleasures while watching bonus baseball in the All Star Game.  Milo cashed in early - so that treat would wait until the next day. We would cash in late, despite the long eventful day. Sitting up telling good old stories, as we always do when we come here.  Good laughs good company....  slept hard.
In the morning, I was tired, but time to get after it.   My good buddy went out and got me a sunrise smoothie and had Milo all tuned up to say hello.   They both worked from home today to be able to spend time with me, but also to make it possible for me to spend time with their cute kiddo, who at 10 months old has grown so much since I last saw him as a newborn.  Now with personality, hes a great reflection of great parents - no fuss, good humor, well loved.  He likes getting chanted for and celebrated.  He likes lasagna noodle and my donut, and on good appetite is now strong enough to stand on his own, soon to walk.  I enjoyed seeing him, and look forward to seeing him more as he grows.

PSA World Champs Released
The draws for the 2018/19 PSA World Champs have been announced today, and will take place between February 23 - March 2.
128 of the world’s greatest male and female squash players will descend on Chicago for the most prestigious title in squash as they battle for a record prize purse of $1 million, which is the highest in the sport’s history.
Defending men’s champion and current World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy has been drawn against England’s Joshua Masters in round one and is featured on the same side of the draw as three-time winner Ramy Ashour.
ElShorbagy and Ashour contested both the 2012 and 2014 finals - both of which are regarded as two of the greatest squash matches of all time - and could potentially meet in the semi-finals.
Ashour - who is yet to play this season due to a knee injury - will play Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly in round one. The Egyptian is unseeded for the first time since the 2006 World Champs.
World No.2 Ali Farag is seeded on the opposite side of the draw and he will take on England’s Daryl Selby in round one. Farag has the likes of Peru’s Diego Elias and New Zealand’s Paul Coll in his path to the final, while he is predicted to play World No.3 Simon Rösner in the semi-finals. The Ladies
Reigning women’s World Champion and world number 1 Raneem El Welily begins her tournament against South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller as she bids to continue her strong start to the season, which has seen her take two PSA titles so far.
The 30-year-old was thwarted in the final of this tournament in 2014 and 2016, but finally got her hands on the trophy in December 2017 courtesy of a 3-1 victory against two-time winner Nour El Sherbini in Manchester. They are seeded to do battle in the title decider once again.
El Welily is predicted to meet World No.3 Nour El Tayeb in the semi-finals, but El Tayeb must come through a difficult draw which contains 2013 World Champion Laura Massaro if she is to play to her seeding.
Meanwhile, El Sherbini begins her tournament against Satomi Watanabe of Japan and is predicted to play United States No.1 Amanda Sobhy in a mouthwatering third round fixture.
In addition to prize winnings totalling over $72,000, the winner of the World Championships will also qualify for the season-ending PSA World Tour Finals, which pits together the reigning World Champions and all seven PSA World Tour Platinum winners.
The 2018/19 PSA World Championships will take place at Chicago’s Union Station, while matches from rounds one and two will also be held at MetroSquash and the University Club of Chicago.

758: Artem Shchukin - A Peek Behind the Iron Curtain
The Iron Curtain was the political boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. Since then and with the advent of the internet and the digital age, Russia has had more and more access to learning magic from the rest of the world. But this week we take a peek behind the curtain, so to speak, to see how Russians learn magic when there are few brick and mortar magic shops, few opportunities for restaurant workers, learning from (mostly) English magic books, and the market for birthday party and wedding magicians, restaurant workers and trade show performers. FISM Champion, Artem Shchukin candidly shares his journey from the circus to the FISM competition.

Artem speaks frankly about how he learned magic from his traveling circus family in Russia then later during lock-down in South Korea and how he developed an award winning, creative magic act. He also answers my probing questions about some of the mysteries in Russia and how people find work as a magician there. For the most part, magic, like many other things, is still kept secret in Russia with little sharing nor congregating at clubs and conventions. Magic is still considered a hobby and not a contributing art to the communal (or Communist) way of life.

Codi Llais

Codi Llais: Bywyd merched yng Nghymru heddiw Menna Machreth (gol.) (Y Lolfa, 2018)
“We should all be feminists”: neges yr awdur Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie yn ei Ted Talk o 2012. Mae’r cyflwyniad gwych hwn, a gyhoeddwyd yn hwyrach fel llyfr, yn mynd i’r afael â diffinio ffeministiaeth i’r unfed ganrif ar hugain, ac yn dadlau fod angen i bawb i ddiffinio eu hunain fel ffeministiaid, er mwyn i ni gyrraedd gwir gydraddoldeb. Ers cyhoeddiad y fideo, mae cyfrolau, podlediadau, a chyfrifon cyfryngau cymdeithasol wedi ymddangos fel rhan o’r bedwaredd don o ffeministiaeth. Gweler bodlediad The Guilty Feminist gyda Deborah Frances-White, y cyfri twitter Everyday Sexism sydd wedi arwain at ddau lyfr gan y sefydlydd Laura Bates, a’r gyfrol ddiweddar Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies) gan Scarlett Curtis, i enwi rhai yn unig. Mae Codi Llais yn rhan o’r canon cyffrous hwn, yn cyflwyno yr ‘F-word’ i’r cyfryngau prif ffrwd.
Casgliad o ysgrifau a geir yn Codi Llais rhan fwya, gydag ambell stori fer a chyfweliad yn y mics hefyd. Agorir y gyfrol gyda chyflwyniad difyr gan y golygydd Menna Machreth, sy’n pwysleisio perthnasedd y pynciau a drafodwyd i gyd i’r Gymru sydd ohoni ac i’r menywod sy’n byw ynddi. Mae’r gyfrol yn rhoi sylw i nifer o wahanol feysydd: gwleidyddiaeth, gweithredaeth (activism), cerddoriaeth, newyddiaduraeth a mamolaeth, i nodi rhai yn unig, ac mae’r ymgais i gynnwys profiadau cymaint o wahanol fenywod Cymreig a phosib yn amlwg, ac i mi, yn talu ar ei ganfed. Mae amrywiaeth yn rinwedd gwerthfawr i’n cymdeithas, a rhoi platfform i leisiau o wahanol gefndiroedd a phrofiadau yn angenrheidiol.
Caiff y symudiad hwn, a ymddangosodd ar wefan Twitter ym mis Hydref 2017, ei grybwyll gan Machreth yn ei chyflwyniad, wrth iddi gyferio at y pwer a roddodd yr hashnod i bobl o bob math i rannu eu profiadau. Mae nifer o’r dynion a enwyd bellach yn cael eu herlid am eu gweithredoedd, a nifer o adroddiadau o aflonyddu rhywiol yn dal i ddod i’r fei. Cysyllta hyn yn uniongyrchol gydag ysgrif Elliw Gwawr, sy’n trafod gweithio yn San Steffan fel newyddiadurwr, gan gyfeirio at fwy nag un achos lle y bu’n rhaid iddi ddelio gyda gwleidydd yn ymddwyn yn “amhriodol” tuag ati. Mae’r byd gwleidyddol, sy’n llawn ego, statws, a chystadlu am rym a phwer, dywed, yn gallu bod yn gartref cysurus i bobl digon annymunol sy’n gweld rhyw a phŵer rhywiol fel ffordd arall o ymdrin a dylanwadu ar bobl. Er hyn, mae hi’n pwysleisio nad pob gwleidydd gwrywaidd sydd fel hyn o bell ffordd, a fod y rhan helaeth ohonynt yn trin menywod yn y gweithle fel y dylsent: fel pobl broffesiynol sy’n gweithio’n galed. Daw’r datrysiad, meddai, o ethol mwy o fenywod, ond er mwyn annog mwy o fenywod i ymgymryd â’r byd gwleidyddol, rhaid wrth gwrs sicrhau ei fod yn le croesawgar iddyn nhw. Fel y mae Elin Jones AS yn cydnabod yn ei hysgrif hithau, digon hawdd yw meddwl am wleidyddion benywaidd dylanwadol, ond dywed nad oedd yr un o’r enwau y mae hi’n eu rhestru wedi bod yn ddylanwad arni hi yn bersonol wrth iddi ddechrau diddori mewn gwleidyddiaeth. Yn ei hysgrif mae hi’n dathlu a chydnabod yr holl fenywod o bob plaid y mae hi wedi gweithio gyda nhw’n bersonol, ac mae hynny yn rhywbeth gwerthfawr: nid cystadlu pleidiol yw’r pwyslais, ond parch a chydweithio, hyd yn oed pan fo unigolion yn anghytuno. Mae na wers yn fynna i bawb, ddim jyst i wleidyddion!
Uchafbwynt arall i mi yn y gyfrol hon oedd ysgrif Rhiannon Marks, wrth iddi ysgrifennu at ei merch am y byd y mae’n gobeithio y bydd iddi hi. Mae diddordeb ei babi mewn llyfrau yn sbarduno myfyrdod ar yr holl lyfrau y bydd y fechan yn darllen ar hyd ei hoes, a’r byd llenyddol benywaidd fel y mae’n sefyll heddiw. Gobeithia Marks y bydd ei merch yn cael cymaint o flas ar sgwennu’r menywod a ddaeth o’i blaen ag a gafodd ei mam, tra’n cyffwrdd hefyd ar gysyniad cymdeithas o rhywedd sy’n esblygu ac yn bwnc trafod diddorol ar hyn o bryd. Yn fwy na dim, dywed, cyflwyna i’w merch y rhyddid i wneud ei phenderfyniadau ei hun. Dyma ddatganiad pwerus yn wyneb canrifoedd o orthrwm ar fenywod.
Un darn ffuglennol a geir yn y gyfrol, sef stori fer Siân Harries, Y Dihuno. Mae’r stori, dwi’n amau dim, yn tynnu ar ei phrofiad personol mewn stafell sgwennu, lle mae’r stafell yn llawn o ddynion a hithau’n brwydro iddynt glywed ei llais. Mae hi’n stori ddoniol ac ysgafn o ran tôn, sydd yn cuddio nodyn mwy difrifol o phwysig oddi mewn. Gwnaeth uchafbwynt y stori i mi chwerthin dipyn, a dwi’n edmygu cymeriad Megan yn fawr am gael y gyts i godi ei llais, a dweud y peth dwi’n siwr ma gymaint o fenywod wedi teimlo dweud mewn stafell llawn dynion. PERIOD.
Fel sy’n amlwg, mae’r gyfrol yn newid rhwng y dwys a’r doniol, yr ysgafn a’r difrifol: ac mae na bynciau eitha’ dyrys yn cael eu codi. Mae ysgrif Lisa Angharad, er enghraifft, yn mynd i’r afael â phwnc anodd i’w drafod, wrth iddi drafod datblygu addysg rhyw mewn ysgolion i drafod porn a chaniatâd. Mae caniatâd yn bwnc sydd wedi bod yn fy meddwl yn ddiweddar, wrth i mi wrando ar gyfres fechan y podlediad Radiolab o’r enw ‘In the No’, sy’n trafod hyn mewn ffordd ddidwyll gan beri i rhywun feddwl eto am yr hyn maen nhw’n ei gredu. Un o’r pethau sy’n fy nharo i wrth ystyried y pwnc yma, ac yn wir ystyried y gyfrol yn ei chyfanrwydd, yw sut mae popeth yn gysylltiedig, a sut y mae’r strwythur batriarchaidd yn cael effaith andwyol neu anffafriol ar fenywod (a dynion!) ymhob agwedd o’n bywydau. Yn yr achos benodol hon, mae’r pwysau cymhleth ar fenywod i fod ar yr un llaw yn ddeniadol, a mesur eu gwerth yn ôl y modd y mae dynion yn eu gweld (awgrym ar gyfer the male gaze plis - y drem wrywaidd?!), ac ar y llaw arall i aros yn ‘bur’ ac yn wyryfol. Mae’r pwysau hyn, ynghyd â‘r delweddau fwyfwy graffig ac eithafol y mae pobl ifanc yn eu gweld arlein - ffilmiau yn llawn menywod sydd byth ddim eisiau - yn creu disgwyliadau a norms afrealistig, a pwysig iawn yw eu trafod, er gwaetha (ac yn wir oherwydd) yr awks factor.
Mae’r cwestiynau cymhleth hyn, a’r ffaith fod strwythur batriarchaidd ein cymdeithas yn cyffwrdd pob rhan o’n bywydau ni i gyd, yn cael ei adlewyrchu yn amrywiaeth y gyfrol hon. Er na fwynheais i bob ysgrif gymaint â rhai eraill, mae pob un yn haeddu’i lle ac yn cynnig rhyw safbwynt ychydig yn wahanol ar greadur amlochrog a chymhleth ffeministiaeth fodern. Dyma gyfrol werthfawr sy’n dangos fod y profiad o fod yn fenyw Gymreig a Chymraeg yn un sy’n haeddu cael lle yn nhon ddiweddaraf ffeministiaeth.

One Mann's Movies Film Review: Pride (2014)
One Mann’s Movies Film Review: Pride (2014)
Probably few things have divided the British people more in the last forty years than Margaret Thatcher’s time as Conservative leader.  The pivot point for that hatred/worship was the protracted dispute with the National Union of Mineworkers in 1984/85.  Arthur Scargill led the miners in a fight to the death against pit closures and their way of life;  Maggie Thatcher led the government and…

365 Day Movie Challenge (2017) - #2: Pride (2014) - dir. Matthew Warchus
Pride is the kind of movie that makes you feel warm and fuzzy and more than a little teary, telling the story of the L.G.S.M. (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners) coalition that raised money and fought alongside striking coal miners in Wales. Ben Schnetzer does an excellent job as Mark Ashton, the real-life figure who headed the movement to help the Welsh communities; so realistic is his accent that if you didn’t already know that Schnetzer is a native New Yorker, you would 100% believe that the actor is from Northern Ireland. George Mackay, another impressive young actor, also does fine work as Joe, a quiet young man who starts the film being afraid and almost ashamed to be gay and by the story concludes, he has found his voice and proudly embraces his sexuality. Andrew Scott, Dominic West, Joseph Gilgun and Faye Marsay play some of the other major figures in L.G.S.M., while character actors Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine, Jessica Gunning, Menna Trussler, Lisa Palfrey and Rhodri Meilir also do wonderfully as the most prominent members of the small Welsh town that struggles to accept the LGBTQ group’s assistance; good performances are given by all. Pride hits all the obvious notes about underdogs triumphing against an unjust system, and you may roll your eyes at the cheesiness of a few scenes, but the actors’ strong performances and the film’s overall warmth and humor makes the end result immensely likeable.

10 satoa lihaksen liikakasvun saavuttamiseksi
Haluatko pystyasi lisaamaan suuren maaran lihasmassaa kehoosi? Ehka sinulla on paan paalla kuvia kehonrakennuksen suurimmista nimista.
Vaikka legendaarisen kehonrakentajan fysiikan kopioiminen ei valttamatta ole helppoa, on olemassa tapoja maksimoida nykyinen lihasmassasi.
Tassa on kymmenen vinkkia lihaksen rakentamiseen. Voit lisata lihamassasi nopeammin ja tehokkaammin.
1 - Nosta tarpeeksi raskas maara, jotta lihakset toimisivat
Toistot on tehtava epaonnistumiseen.
3 - Panostamalla kuntosalille mahdollisimman paljon
Sinun taytyy laittaa 100% tyostasi 100% ajasta. Tama on yksi todellinen avain menestymiseen lihasmassatavoitteidesi saavuttamisessa.
4 - Lisaa proteiinin maaraa ruokavaliossasi
Proteiini on kaikkien lihasten paayksikko.
5 - Saa riittavasti lepoa
Yksi yleisimmista virheista, joita ihmiset tekevat, on, etta he liioittelevat sita kuntosalilla. Lihakset eivat kasva, kun ne tyoskentelevat. Pikemminkin ne kasvavat harjoituksen jalkeisena aikana. Tama tarkoittaa, etta jos treenaat liian usein, lihakset eivat kasva. Itse asiassa sita voitaisiin jopa vahentaa. Tama tarkoittaa, etta sinun on otettava muutama paiva vapaata viikossa, jotta lihaksesi voivat kasvaa.
Naihin kuuluu erilaisten harjoitusten suorittaminen perakkain ilman lepoa. Tata varten harjoitusten on koskettava taysin erilaisia ??lihasryhmia. Siksi sinun tulee suorittaa hauislihas ja menna heti jalkaharjoitteluun. Yhdistetyissa harjoituksissa on 2-3 harjoitusta ja ylasuorissa 4-5. Molemmat strategiat voivat olla erinomaisia ?? massan kehittamiselle.
7 - Pysy niiden harjoitusten kanssa, joiden tiedetaan lisaavan massaa
Analyyttiset harjoitukset auttavat lisaamaan lihaksen maaritelmaa.
8 - Suorita raskaat kyykkyt saannollisesti
Ja raskaalla tarkoitamme kohtuullisuudessa. Ala liioittele sita, muuten vaarana on loukkaantuminen.
9 - Kokeile klassista menetelmaa lihasmassan uupumiseen
Erityisesti sita kaytetaan liittymista valmistelevan rakennepolitiikan tyhjentavassa koulutussuunnitelmassa. Tama toimii siten, etta suoritat eristamisharjoituksen epaonnistumiseen ja siirryt valittomasti yhdistelmaharjoitteluun, joka vaikuttaa aiemmin eristettyyn lihasosaan. Tama voi stimuloida kasvua uskomattoman hyvin.
10 - Ala koskaan aliarvioi sydanvoimaa lihasten rakennuksessa
Joten hanelle
