What's Going On? (April 2023)
Tumblr media
Hey, Hi, and Hello!
Here's what's going on with me in the month of April!
Tumblr media
BFA SENIOR EXHIBITION
I am very excited to announce that my work will be on display as part of the Marywood BFA Art Exhibition! Itā€™s been quite a whirlwind preparing for the event, and as much as I want to gush about every detail, I also want to keep a few surprises. However, what I can say is that Iā€™ll have 7 pieces available ā€” some youā€™ve seen, and some you havenā€™t ā€” which includes two zines of brand new artwork which will be available for purchase at the show (more on that later, though)!
The Marywood BFA Art Exhibition will begin April 15th in the Mahady Gallery, and will stay open until May 3rd.

THIS SIDE UP
A collection of artwork, This Side Up explores a theme of alienation through playful collage and liminal photography.
This Side Up will be available on April 15th in the Mahady Gallery in Marywood University, with its first edition run limited to 20 copies.
Tumblr media
CONGRATULATIONS DELUXE
Iā€™d like to introduce CONGRATULATION DELUXE, a 56-page zine of brand new illustrations ā€” containing nearly every character Iā€™ve created and designed during my BFA.
CONGRATULATIONS DELUXE will be available on April 15th in the Mahady Gallery in Marywood University, with its edition run limited to 25 copies.

McKenna, #painting blogger, honors Womenā€™s History Month by highlighting three women who transformed the art world. šŸŒøāœØ From Kahlo's deeply personal portraits to O'Keeffe's stunning natural abstractions and Kusama's bold immersive artā€”these trailblazing artists changed the landscape of creativity. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInArt
In honor of Womenā€™s History Month, itā€™s important to recognize the countless women artists who have shaped the art world in powerful yet often unrecognized ways. This post highlights three incredibly influential artists who redefined artistic expression and left a lasting impact on history. Frida Kahlo 1907-1954 Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her powerful and deeply personalā€¦

Sobek, The Kane Chronicles
Nicola, our Animation blogger, shares with us a beautiful illustration that she has been working on in one of her courses. Based off of a page in a childrenā€™s book, Nicola shares her process, along with some sketches as well. #MarywoodArt #Animation
Our current project in my Illustration II class is to illustrate a page from a random book. The professor had us pull the page from a bag, so we didnā€™t get to see what we were picking. Coincidentally, the page I pulled was from a series I read as a kid, called The Kane Chronicles. The author is Rick Riordan, the same author who wrote Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I donā€™t think I ever finishedā€¦

Embracing Imperfection
Jenna, our new #Ceramics blogger, opens up about her struggle with #perfectionism in art and how working with clay has helped her embrace failure as part of the creative process. Speed throwing and learning to let go have transformed her approach. #MarywoodArt #Art #Ceramics #EmbraceImperfection #speedthrowing
Iā€™ve always struggled with perfectionism in my art, mainly when I donā€™t know how to approach a concept or canā€™t decide when to stop working on a piece. In some ways, I appreciate this trait because it pushes me to create a work Iā€™m proud of. But other times, it becomes overwhelming, and I avoid the piece altogether. There are so many projects Iā€™ve never finished simply because I feel like Iā€™llā€¦

Art as a Hobby
Feeling artistā€™s block? šŸŽØšŸ’ McKenna, #painting blogger, shares how exploring art as a hobbyā€”rather than just an obligationā€”can be a game-changer. By embracing watercolor painting as a creative refuge, sheā€™s found a way to refresh her perspective and rekindle inspiration. šŸŒæšŸŽØ #ArtAsTherapy #WatercolorEscape #StayCreative
As artists, we have the privilege of creating work that stems from a deep sense of self and inner calling, making the process of artistic production therapeutic at times. Art has the power to serve as a form of relaxation and self-expression, allowing us to channel emotions and experiences into something tangible. However, while art can be soothing, true artists understand that the creativeā€¦

Cardcaptor Sakura Forgery
Nicola, our animation blogger, shares work from her Animation for the Illustrator class where each student could choose their own art for inspiration. Nicola created a Cardcaptor Sakura Forgery. #MarywoodArt #Illustration #Animation #characterdesign
For the last project in my Animation for the Illustrator class, we could choose any piece of animation we wanted to base our illustrations on. I get very anxious when I am given that amount of freedom in a class, because I donā€™t like to show people things I like. Itā€™s a social anxiety thing. After much deliberation, I chose Cardcaptor Sakura, partially because I love it with my whole soul andā€¦

Feed and Timeline Appreciation
Isabelle, #offcampusartnews blogger, highlights 3 inspiring artists on social media. From realistic anatomy to stylized faces and bold designs, she reflects on their unique styles and how they fuel her own creativity. šŸŽØāœØ #ArtInspiration #MarywoodArt
On social media, weā€™re flooded by posts and stimuli left and right. Scrolling through our feed and timeline, we zip by hands that pry to get our attention. As artists, we often interact with or follow multiple art accounts for a variety of reasons. I often do so to gather inspiration. Other times, to study and observe their techniques. And others, because it looks cool! I think itā€™s nice to goā€¦

The Art of Recreation
Santo dives deep into the art of recreation! From fan art to licensed merchandise, discover how creativity shines in reimagining beloved characters. Santo even shares his obsession with the Corpse Bride animatronic! šŸ˜± #art #creativity #recreation #fanart
Hello, in my most recent post ā€œArt of Originalityā€ I discussed the beauty of creating something new. Nonetheless, there is also an art in taking something that was already created and recreating it into something new! What is Recreation: Recreation is not a direct copy of an original work. Instead it is taking that original work and making something creatively unique. Oftentimes, recreation isā€¦
