Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

I find it honestly a little ironic how Near is always considered the "winner" in the Death Note fandom, because on paper it's true, but I feel like Near himself would resent that idea. Between L, Light, Mello and Near, Near is the only one who never once regards his prospective victory as a victory for himself alone. His entire speech in the warehouse is about how his original plan would have killed him, but it was the contributions of the people around him who saved his life and resolved the case. He recognises that he's only one piece in a bigger puzzle, yet he's always the one who gets credited, because he's the only one who lived.

can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!

#me.txt #jjba #i'm going to ramble in tags actually. excuse me #ok. rereading sdc and so confused at the general perception of jotaro and his friends/family. he's not NEARLY as flat or as dickish #i understand that the anime (particularly the dub) tends to slander him but even then he still clearly cares for them! i'm confused #i also understand that a lot of people dig against jotaro and kakyoin as a dynamic because 'they're popular' and that generally disliking #popular things across media is a thing that i've seen consistently everywhere but the discredit to them simply as a DUO and not even as a #pairing is so..... odd..... like they're considered to be a duo that clicks for a reason. i enjoyed them even before i got into the fandom #every time i see someone say jotaro is overrated/dull i take a shot and assume they're an anime-only or only read the manga like once btw #joseph and jotaro also have a neat dynamic and they obviously both love and care for each other. like they're not going to go around loudly #or anything but literally the entirety of the lovers and the prelude to the dio fight IS jotaro being worked up over joseph getting hurt #equally i don't know if it translates to the anime as much but joseph is VERY complimentary when it comes to jotaro. like he sings his #praises so often and reminds everyone that he's his grandson so frequently (d'arby the gamer is a good example of this). either way it's so #peculiar....... there's not enough avdol and jotaro content btw (also in canon) because jotaro obviously looks up to him and avdol jokes #around with him on the occasion they interact after their intro which doesn't start very well. it's very cute #i do think an important thing to note about jotaro's character is how he acts AFTER his intro because he's so drastically different. early #jotaro and later jotaro aren't the same character and i do not mean this in a character development way. excluding the jail incident he's #completely different and probably shouldn't really be taken into account (especially considering the amount of slapstick in araki's intros)#and i think that's really???? what people center on for his character? Please correct me if I'm wrong I scrolled through the official dndads Twitter like once (I'm not getting on that app even if my life depends on it) but I remember them mentioning that they think it would be SO FUNNY if they did a dating sim... YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW BADLY I NEED THAT TO BE REAL. I'M NOT EVEN ATTRACTED TO ANY OF THE CHARACTERS BUT LIKE. HEAR ME OUT. I'm talking s1 dads specifically... A dating sim in the vain of that other dad dating sim (I forgot what it was called sorry) with the main 4. It's fully voice acted. There's a plethora of different paths and wacky scenarios to go through depending on who and what you choose. Do you see the vision (I mean that's how all dating sims work but shhh). They would treat the player as a party member and force them to go on unrelated, frankly dumb sidequests with them in Faerun. SCREW IT JUST A DNDADS VISUAL NOVEL IN GENERAL. THEY CAN ADD MULTIPLE DLCS FOR SEASONS 2 AND 3. IT WOULD WORK SO WELL BECAUSE THE PODCAST'S OUTLANDISH HUMOR REALLY COULD FIT INTO THE VISUAL NOVEL FORMAT. i feel like almost everything in utena has sort of already been extensively discussed in the last two (almost three) decades of utena's existence (not that there aren't new interpretations to be made, there always are) besides black rose arc (mikage+mamiya+tokiko). which is why they're so much fun to think about. i think the need to read between the lines makes it unfortunately easy to misunderstand or look past obvious stuff if you don't pay attention, but to me it's always been really obvious that mikage's arc is a literal representation of the erasure of queerness in ohtori (society?) by akio/everything he represents. and that's so fucking tragic! nemuro was never able to find a name for his desires. he lived and died as a puppet in the shadows.

#rgu #i think sadly that trigger warning list that people always passed around kind of stunted discussion bc of the assumptions it made #like. i think its okay to say that mikage/nemuro was always in love with mamiya and not tokiko #not that its impossible to interpret him as bisexual (similar to how people see utena as bisexual)#but his love for mamiya is what changed his life (same for utena/her meeting anthy)#one scene i never see people bring up is how #at one point mikage says that attaining eternity wouldn't even make 'her' happy #and then akio questions '''her'' you say?'#the only reason mikage thinks attaining eternity wouldnt even make 'her' i.e 'tokiko' happy is because he just had a conversation #with mamiya where he admitted the whole endeavor was making him unhappy #if anything it would have made tokiko happy to attain eternity and forever preserve her brother like a dead flower #which is what akio does with anthy! so fucked!#ALSO another thing #is that mikage sees utena as tokiko returned #just like how utena meets 'dios' - returned as akio #he claims he will finally beat tokiko - in this place (the dueling arena) - which is kind of foreshadowing utena fighting akio?????#anthy!mamiya says to mikage in the black rose musical:#“You can’t win against her. Oh dear. I'm afraid I haven't put much thought into it. I've never seen myself getting into a relationship, really. My kingdom's rule will go to whoever is most fit, not whoever shares my blood. I suppose I can appreciate beauty in either gender. I'm not quite sure if it would be considered attraction, though, but I've seen both women and men whom I'd consider beautiful. I don't quite know the labels for what I'd fall under then, I'm sorry. I'm trying my best to give a thorough explanation, but-- I don't know, I'm just unsure what it's like to be interested in someone.

I don't deny Adrien's flaws. I deny all the crimes the salters assign to him because he dares to disagree with their queen.

The "he refuses to take no for an answer" talking point just shows me that the people saying that have no understanding of narrative tone, because they clearly can't differentiate between what the narrative treats as a joke and what it wants us to take seriously. You can criticize the fact that they treat it like a joke, but you have to assign that flaw to the writers. In-universe, these actions are exaggerated for the sake of comedy, because ML relies on absurdist humor. Which is why it is ridiculous to use "Adrien doesn't take no for an answer" as a critique. It's disingenuous and it makes me want to just ignore anyone who takes it seriously, because they're just fishing for reasons to salt on Adrien instead of coming up with constructive critique.

It's the same as people who go on long, obsessive tirades about how Marinette is a creepy stalker, cause no, she's not. It's a joke. It's exaggeration for comedy. Him flirting and her being exasperated is supposed to be funny. Her breaking into his house in goofy ways and having his schedule mapped out is supposed to be funny. It's up to you to find it funny, and you can certainly talk about the fact that it shouldn't be used as a joke, but pretending this is some character flaw and not a joke is a bad argument, and makes me less inclined to take anyone who thinks that way seriously.

And in Glaciator 2, he didn't spread rumors about their relationship? It was some magazine that did that (they got voted couple of the year or something), and he was just making jokes about it. And he can be called out for that (and he is called out in the episode), but conjuring up imaginary flaws to make him look worse is not helping your point, because it just makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. I hope that clears it up.
