Did anyone say another pokemon poll blog?
Hi! After a bit of thinking and the green light from the mod, I decided to make this blog as a sort of spin off as the @pokemontheywouldhave blog. This is for choosing what your favorite character or person would be if they were a pokemon!
General rules:
1 character per submission. Please only make submissions through the form.
Anyone can be submitted, from anything, unless it is an oc [it's hard for me to find/put images and wouldn't have as interesting results, imo]. Please do not bring discourse onto the polls. Please do not harass anyone about submitting a character or person.
The only exemption is please do not make political statements on the blog. I don't want to have political arguments in my notes.
Please specify formes of pokemon! Specify the type of alcremie, lycanroc, etc. Specify mega or gigantamax formes. Specify shiny if you want it to be shiny. etc.
I will probably delete duplicate submissions but I may not notice right away as I have memory issues. Feel free to correct me on anything!
This may be added to in the future but I think this is sufficient. Wahoo

i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:
"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.
an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.
You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.
If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
Okay that's my schpeal. everybody go have fun and play nice now.
#fandom#fandom infrastructure#fandom history#was working on the ship polls blog and the comments i get there often reminded me of this#every once in a while i've gotta reacquaint myself with the xkcd expert familiarity comic principle#and the general knowledge that people dont explain the basics of fandom anymore so people have to learn it on their own#while everybody just expects them to know it and that's not fair to them!#i will also put my usual thing: folks are always welcome to ask me anything about fandom stuff#it can be specific pjo fandom stuff or general pan-fandom stuff#i have been in fandom for a long time and i am happy to explain things#legitimately if anyone ever has questions about even the most basic of fandom stuff. go for it. i love talking about it

i think you might have hacked something with the tumblr userbase. apparently people will engage with creative posts more if there are polls involved. fascinating. i'm so curious if more people will incorporate this now or if they'll just be depressed about it 💀
I really do think the polls on my art posts were such a genius move on my part!! People definitely will engage more because there's a whole new avenue for them to engage on, and it's one that a lot of people like: click button!
I don't have exact stats about it at the moment, but anecdotally there's like 300ish people that will regularly vote on those polls that I assume are just direct followers. Depending on how many/who reblogs that particular post, the voter count can balloon up really high (Miraidon, blazed to 100k+ people, 12k votes). I'm not sure how the polls affect that other normal tumblr aspects such as likes/reblogs/replies, but I also want to say anecdotally that it's about 3-3.5x as many votes as there are combined notes. So if there's 600 votes, there's around 170-200 notes. Also I think I should note that that's personally a LOT of notes for me already, but I do have 8000 followers as like, a base. Don't know how many of them are active/saw the post/actually like my blog, but there's at least a core 300 of y'all that are really here for my art.
Possible reasons for why people especially like to vote in polls: click button, built in comments you don't have to think about but are guaranteed to be well received, anonymous as in actually untraceable (no list of who voted like there is with the likes), quick response, sense of community in that this many people also had the same thought/choice as you, easy way to keep track of if you'd seen the post before, a little gimmicky and novel, 'eh why not' attitude even has an option being just the name of the pokemon lol
Like I said though, I don't know how the polls affect the other note counts. I want to say that some people are more likely to reblog because of them, but there could certainly be people that would otherwise reblog but don't because of the poll. I don't think there's that much of an overlap of people who reblog and people who would not reblog polls, though. And because this is tumblr and my financial livelihood is not tied to engagement on my art posts, I am pretty happy with people just voting on the polls; that's feedback for me, knowledge that an individual real person saw the post. I think it would be interesting to be able to analyze how they affect the other notes, but I'm not equipped to do that and I'm not particularly pressed about it.
I think it'd be neat if other people did it too for funsies! Idk how much they'll like it if they're more concerned about the engagement = clicks = money perspective, because I think tumblr is not quite built around that idea. It happens, sure, but in a kind of invisible way that's not so readily measurable based solely on notes. I've seen one other person do it for their art post and that was fun!! :D It does take a little bit more energy on my/OP's part because of the whole coming up with options thing. I used to intentionally be more varied with mine, but now I mostly just pick what my favorite of my first 5ish impressions/thoughts are about my art. Which is super nice when it turns out to be the same thought path as many others haha
#dpc asks#blogger lore#polls#poll#poll meta#i have SO many thoughts about this specifically lol#also i can tell i miss writing essays because there were several points where i wanted to like. cite my sources parenthetically#but uhhhhhhhhh. idk how appropriate it would be to @ specific blogs. and also it would reveal a little bit more of my Me-not-DPC side#also i don't understand the last bit of the anon but i addressed everything else i think :D

Propaganda: im gonna be real i just genuinely want to know if people still ship this. because this WAS a thing. at LEAST two people shipped it. Clint made a joke in crystal kingdom about Killian having a crush on Johann and writing it in her diary, and she blushes iirc. there was a whole jumbotron of a couple who called themselves Killian and Johann.
#the adventure zone#taz balance#m/f ship#ship poll#fandom polls#johann#killian#propaganda slightly edited to remove a message directed to me!#to the submitter: i am delighted to see this submission it is absolutely in the spirit of things <3#my entire approach to shipping is 'ooh this sounds fun - would it be fun? would it be interesting?' personally#and i've rambled often to friends about how taz fans tend to approach sexuality headcanons and queer 'rep'#in taz itself (specifically balance) especially considering that it's a dnd podcast by a bunch of straight men in the 2010s#whatever! i did not make this blog to have controversial opinions about non-canon sexuality headcanons i made it to have fun#and this poll is fun!#thank you for submitting it. i love you#i love when this blog runs weird or unpopular ships as polls!! that's the point of it to me#sorry i try not to actually present myself as an individual person - or at least the persona this blog uses is distanced from myself#for privacy & anonymity. but it turns out that i'm chatty and you guys address me sometimes in poll submissions! so what else am i meant#to do#much love. if you read all these tags... hello

Okay, so! I have:
Changed the url of the blog (scale-tippers -> abyssembraced)
Changed the colour scheme of the blog (though it's still somewhat subject to change)
Updated the avatar to reflect the new colour scheme (though it's still temporary until I draw a nicer one)
Removed my old promo as my pinned post due to it being outdated (a temporary pinned post with links and stuff will be up in a sec; a new promo will come eventually, probably once I finish writing Rouxls' bio page)
Archived (dropped) Ryunosuke and Robin as muses for the time being.
#ooc#((plus side to making a poll about the url change and not just dming my mutuals directly:))#((the anonymity and indirectness makes people less pressured to say 'yes' and thus will answer 'no' if they don't want me to change it!))#((the down side to not talking to people directly:))#((i do not know who i now need to apologize to for changing my url))#((and the reason the blog colours are still subject to change are because everything is very ghost-centric right now))#(( (oh btw tumblr stop trying to correct me on my spelling of ''colours'' i am Right) ))#((''abyssembraced'' is still a lot more fitting for ghost than it is for rouxls even though the new url was supposed to suit both muses))#((but i chose to go for that name specifically instead of something like ''darkembraced''))#((so i'm thinking i might change the blog's colours to be black/dark grey and blue/cyan to reference castle town))#((so that rouxls feels more included given that he's Also a primary muse))#((also i do still love ryuu and robin but i just. don't have the confidence to write them right now))#((maybe they'll come back someday! but i'm not gonna promise anything and i wouldn't count on it unless i decide to replay their games))#((but i don't really like dealing in absolutes so i'm calling them ''archived'' and not dropped))#((their bios are still available on a separate ''archived muses'' page i just made that can be accessed from the regular muse list))

I’ve been working on going through old writing to parse out what I can possibly salvage for what I’m writing now and a lot of it I can’t use for one reason or another and was thinking about possibly posting them. I posted one bit on my main blog, but this side blog feels more fitting…
Either way:
#honestly it just feels weird to post about my characters on the clusterfuck that is my main blog#but this one is always so specifically about one thing only that I don’t want to mess up a bunch of peoples feeds with something like this#idk I just want someone to care about my characters the way I do I guess and this felt like a better place to reach that kind of person#writing#it’s a poll!#not book related

The way you cater your polls with clear bias toward transmasc affirmation and regularly ignore the feelings of trans women and objectify transfems’ bodies to make trans men feel included/powerful makes me wanna puke
Hi, anon. While there are a few things about this message that make me think it is meant to be inflammatory rather than a genuine criticism of the way I handle gender-related polls, I'm going to answer in good faith first.
I try to be as inclusive and affirming as possible for both transfem and transmasc people. It is never my intention to objectify or alienate transfem people and I try to adjust submissions to be more inclusive, but I'm not perfect– I may not recognize every possible form of bias in polls that other people submit, or I may unknowingly phrase something in a way that is biased.
I'm very sorry if this has happened recently. If there are any specific polls that made you or other transfems you know feel that way, please let me know which polls so that I can identify the problem and be more considerate in the future.
–
That said, here's what makes me think this may have been sent purely to be inflammatory/divisive. To be clear: although I'm not sure this message is genuine, transmisogyny is not welcome here; any rude comments will be deleted.
Anon didn't reference a specific poll that felt exclusionary or objectifying. A genuine complaint would likely reference at least one poll that prompted this person to send this message.
This doesn't seem to be related to a specific poll or series of polls at all. None of the polls published in the last 2 weeks or so have anything to do with gender.
The most recent poll that this could possibly be related to is "Is 'hey guys' a gendered phrase?" posted on September 22nd. In the case of that poll, I think the results show a strong bias, but the poll itself is fine as far as I'm aware.
Overall, it's not enough to make me say this message is definitely just trying to make a scene, but I have a suspicion that anon may not be a transfem person– and if that is the case, anon's desired outcome may be as follows:
I respond with a sincere apology
Followers of this blog can't think of a recent poll where there was a legitimate issue, and comment about how anon is overreacting
Some followers come away with the impression that transfems are oversensitive and/or have something against transmascs
A divide is created (or strengthened) between transmascs and transfems, and between transfems and everyone else
I'm including this portion to show what a potential bad actor looks like. Anybody can use progressive-sounding language to elicit a negative reaction from you. Who benefits from the trans community dividing itself? Certainly not trans people.

A popular sex ed blog has decided trans men & mascs aren't allowed to use our own words to describe our own oppression, and seems to be deleting replies and asks that say otherwise, so I've decided to take my ramble over to main.
Regarding TMA/TME language, they've brought up a couple of times how "exempt" means "set apart" rather than "never experiences transmisogyny ever," and how words can have multiple definitions (this post). So it's best to hear people out before jumping to bad-faith interpretations of their words.
However, they also say, "misandry is a term for the 'oppression of men based on gender'" (this post) as a reason why "transmisandry" can never be used.
That is one definition of misandry, yes, but as they pointed out, words can have multiple definitions! Regarding the oppression against trans men & mascs, misandry is generally used to mean the literal "hatred of men," and people in these discussions don't believe that misandry is an axis of systemic oppression (which has been stated over and over).
Yes, it has negative connotations, which is why people more often use transandrophobia or anti-transmasculinity instead. (This poll shows more specifically which terms are most preferred.) But that doesn't mean people who use the term transmisandry are MRAs or believe in the MRA concept of misandry.
Transmisandry is not claiming a combination of systemic transphobia and "systemic misandry," but hatred against trans men & mascs for being trans men/masc. Again, many people prefer other terms that leave less room for that misinterpretation, but people who do use the term transmisandry aren't responsible for others repeatedly ignoring their actual explanations of the term.
In general, arguing over the words rather than the concepts is a very common way to silence people who are trying to talk about their oppression. Jews talking about antisemitism get dismissed because "You're not Semitic, you're from Poland." Aromantic and asexual people get dismissed because "Aphobia literally means 'fear of nothing,' that's a stupid term." And trans men & mascs get told "You can't use that word to talk about your oppression, it's problematic." (Time and time again, and every time we pick a new word, that one gets called problematic too; it's almost like the problem was never really the word?) The words get picked apart but people don't listen to what we're actually saying, the ways we're suffering.
In their own words, from this post: "Do you have to like the language? No. Do you have to respect the way and language oppressed people have chosen to speak about their oppression? Yes. Yes, you do."
Trans men & mascs shouldn't be an exception to your respect.
#anti-transmasculinity#transmisandry#the number of times i've heard 'oppressed people have the right to define their own oppression! except transmascs. fuck you guys'#it's insane#I don't even use the term transmisandry myself? but this shit is not okay to say so i'm going to bat for it

NEED👏THAT👏MAN👏PREGNANT TOURNEY SUBMISSIONS OPEN
Heyoooo! My name is Omi, and like most things in my life, i'm creating this gimmick blog on complete impulse~ we're just gonna make things up as we go and it's gonna be all fine and dandy.
ever felt overcome with the deeply rooted urge to make that fandom man a mother? well i've got good news for you.
BOOM
Here are your rules!
Probably easy to guess, but there WILL be NSFW language and jokes on this blog (not nsfw images however)! DO NOT FOLLOW ME IF YOU ARE A MINOR PLZ AND THANK U 🙏
ONLY submit characters through the form link above. No ask submissions!
one character per submission
they can be from any form of media. only important thing is that they identify as a man.
fictional characters only! No real people!
characters must be adults (18+)
submit a specific character only once. you can submit more than one different character though
propaganda is encouraged, but i don't really like anti-propaganda (i.e. saying why an opposing character Shouldn't advance instead of just hyping your choice. Only because some people can get really heated about it and I'd rather keep things chill)
as always, tumblr polls are just for fun. Never take 'em too seriously!
the bracket size will be decided once I see our final submission count. Submissions open until April 24th
uhhh i can't think of anything else rn but if i do later i'll come back and edit 👍 if you have a specific question, send an ask my way and i'll see if i can answer it.
Tagging other blogs below for traction (feel free to ignore if this isn't your thing! I'm attempting to tag only blogs that I thiiink wouldn't be bothered, but if I make a mistake, I apologize)

help me find memes for a phd term paper?
hello my darlings! 💕
as you know, I try to keep personal posts very much to a minimum on this blog and focus instead on just posting polls and occasional other historical fashion related things, but I was wondering if you might be willing to keep a lookout for some specific memes as you scroll on tumblr!
I'm currently in a seminar on the 19th century body, and I'm putting together the concept for a term paper around modern visual uses of the victorian body, thus the need for memes! ☺️
have you seen those memes that are like a detail of a painting with a languishing woman (or sometimes many details of many languishing women) with text over it like "me on an average sunday evening" or "me after one small inconvenience?" those are precisely what I'm looking for!
essentially, the exact context/text/meaning of the meme doesn't really matter, but if you see a meme with an image of a languishing woman that appears to come from a painting, I would love to know about it! (no need to id the painting or anything, or even know if it's from the proper era, that's something I'll be doing as part of the process of assembling images for this project, so no worries at all about that!)
no need to go on the hunt for these (unless you want to), but if you happen to see them as you scroll through tumblr, I would be immensely grateful if you would drop me a link! I apologize since I know my ask box is still closed for the moment, but feel free to dm me! or if you'd prefer to leave it anonymously in my ask box, you are also more than welcome to head over to one of my other blogs @ourstaturestouchtheskies or @almost-a-loneliness and send an ask there! 🥰🥰
again, this is truly only if you happen to see these and feel moved to send them over! this will have no effect on the blog whatsoever, it's just something that I'm doing as part of my coursework and I thought you all might have seen some of these in your tumblr scrollings!
I'll conclude with a huge thank you to everyone who helped me ID a mushroom last time! that paper ended up focusing on reality and unreality in the fairy painting from that post, and it turns out that period sources on the believed properties of the mushroom provided for some fantastic analysis!! ☺️💕
sending you all so much love always,
the curator 🪶
