Send me a Toon’s name and I’ll talk about my thoughts on their relationship with Vee!

Razzle and Dazzle your beloveds,,,

I guess one plus side to me taking so long to get to this ask is that now these two actually do have conversations with Vee! Though the wiki is cringe and still doesn't actually have one of them documented. So I'll write out the transcript for that one myself, and then get into it, the other conversation, and the letter to Vee in Razzle's room under the cut.

R&D: VEE!! HELLO! (...Hey Vee.) Vee: Hello, how are you both doing? R&D: AMAZING!! Right Dazzle!? (...Yeah, he's a fan.) Vee: I can tell.

I may have made a bit of a big deal over the conversation that's missing from the wiki, but really, all three of these interactions are similar enough that I think I can tackle them all together as one big lump.

Clearly, Razzle is a very big fan of Vee and her game show, being pretty starstruck in the conversation that he initiates. And even though her productions have had to be reduced to much smaller-scale trivia nights since the shutdown (as mentioned in one of Vee's conversations with Goob), he's still a massive fan!

That may also be why Razzle refers to it as a "gameshow thing" in their letter to her. If it's something he wrote post-shutdown, then what she does now isn't same as her old game shows, so he's just. Not too sure how to refer to it anymore!

Regardless, Razzle very very much wants to be part of one of those productions, be it in the spotlight as a contestant, or in the shadows helping out backstage (which perhaps is what Dazzle may prefer?). But he also seems to perhaps be a little nervous about... 'Overstepping his bounds' with Vee, opting to send her letters expressing his love for her work rather than just talking to her like they would anyone else. But also, in typical socially awkward Razzle fashion (affectionate), despite potentially trying to avoid bothering her too much, he still messes that up by sending her too many letters. Or at least by causing her to raise an eyebrow at them sending any letters at all; that's something she expects from human children, not really a fellow Toon. He definitely does put her on a pedestal, being surprised to hear her tell them that it's okay to just. Talk to her. As if, because she's a Main and a celebrity and likely Gardenview's second most popular Toon, she's untouchable. Above the other Toons, and deserving of more respect. Dazzle, in comparison, is far more 'normal' around Vee, appearing to just treat her like any other Toon.

Meanwhile, on Vee's side of things... It's obvious that, as of the time of these conversations, Vee doesn't really know the twins personally. She's received Razzle's many letters, but hasn't properly spoken to him or Dazzle much. And even when they do get the chance to talk in the elevator, half the time (ie the R&D-initiated conversation) they simply exchange basic pleasantries instead of anything more meaningful. Their relationship is that of a celebrity and a fan, and not much more.

However, I think that Razzle and Dazzle are people who Vee is especially willing to become closer with. The invite for them to come visit her room feels significant to me, and not something she'd offer to just anyone. (Though at the same time I admittedly could also see that sort of thing just being a normal part of the Toons' 'culture' instead.)

Vee does absolutely have an ego to her, so Razzle being such an adoring fan does help endear him to her. They appeal to her pride. But even more importantly than that is the fact that the three of them have a lot of mutual close friends. Notably Glisten, Astro, and Brightney. So like. When there's that much overlap in friend groups and all of her closest friends are so fond of the duo, it just makes sense for her to try and be friends with them as well. To reach out a little more and be friendlier with them than she typically would with Toons she's not close with (not that she's intentionally unfriendly to anyone, mind you). Everything is set up so perfectly for them to theoretically be friends; they just need to act and take those first steps.

With Astro perhaps being an especially strong contributor to that feeling, given that I imagine Astro is more the type to have a small handful of really close friends rather than a bunch of buddies he's less close to. So Dazzle being in that little circle is! Pretty significant to Vee! A friend of Astro's is, at least on some level, a friend of hers (Except Dandy She Does Not Count Dandy /silly).

Perhaps Dazzle being close with Astro and Brightney also contributes to why he treats Vee like he would any other Toon? Just. Him possibly hearing the other two talk about her and getting more acquainted with the idea of "Vee the Person" and not just "Vee the Celebrity" through that. While Razzle was perhaps already asleep because the conversations happened during a Book Club meeting gdshdgdf.

Regarding R&D and the game show... Of course, Vee's not really able to run her show properly anymore, what with the shutdown and her floor and stage having been overrun with Twisteds. But if she ever got the chance to do something larger-scale than just a trivia night again? I could see her putting together something special to allow the boys to participate. A "special episode" where the three contestants are actually three pairs of Toons, so that Razzle and Dazzle don't have an unfair advantage. Perhaps she'd even share the hosting stage for the first time ever, inviting Brightney on as a co-host to fit the duo theming. Plus, having Brightney around might help Dazzle's confidence with being in the spotlight, and also she'd be too OP of a partner to be a contestant herself gdgsfhshf.

Getting to help her with backstage work is a more difficult ask, because she is very particular about the details for her game show. She's very much a perfectionist when it comes to her show, and everything has to be the way she envisions it. But, post-shutdown, now that she's found other hobbies she enjoys and other ways that she'd like to spend her time instead of just endlessly working on her game show, I'd like to think she'd ease up on that, if she ever got to have a proper, full-scale game show again. Trust the other people working with her and spread the workload more reasonably, instead of trying to control everything herself. And so,, perhaps Razzle and Dazzle would be welcome to help out backstage at that point.

On the flip side, Vee would also make sense as someone the twins might ask to star in one of their plays--assuming Razzle can work up the courage to 'bother' her like that, anyway. She has experience in acting, after all, since that's basically what she does constantly for her game show. We've talked about this before, though, and as I've already said, I think it'd be interesting if Vee would actually struggle to play any role that isn't her show host persona or her regular self. Her show host act may be perfect, but that's because it was practiced heavily until she was finally able to reach that point. Failing to meet the twins' expectations for her role in their play would be a humiliating experience for her, to be sure. But it would also lead to a nice bonding experience for the three of them, I think. Razzle and Dazzle, who, in their everyday life, each also tend to struggle to break out of the personalities and emotions assigned to them at birth, could offer Vee tips on what they do to embody characters who are different from their 'defaults'. It also, if only briefly, flips the power dynamic between them: Vee may be the famous celebrity, but Razzle and Dazzle are the experts in this situation. They're teaching her. And I dunno, I just think that's kinda neat.

And we've talked about this before in relation to our specific muses, but I'll put it here, too! I imagine the act of befriending Vee is actually a joint effort from both brothers. And, as a result, Vee comes to consider both of them to be her friends, and is likely equally close to both of them. Razzle is the one who takes the initiative to approach Vee, especially early on. She's his idol, and so they're the one who wants to be around her more. He's a bit nervous about overstepping his bounds with her, sure, but once she invites the two of them to visit her outside of runs? Razzle's the one who makes that decision to take her up on the offer.

However, they're also pretty socially awkward. And starstruck. And so they sort of struggle to actually hold a proper conversation with Vee, despite his enthusiasm to see her and the fact that he was the one who wanted to talk to her in the first place. And that's where Dazzle, despite his more introverted and pessimistic nature, is actually able to step in and save the interaction from becoming an awkward mess. He has an easier time just Talking to Vee like he would any other Toon, and so he's a lifesaver in the early days of the trio's developing friendship.

I've made this comparison multiple times before in private, but Vee can be said to have two "sides" to her: there's her energetic, upbeat show host persona, which she uses when, well, hosting her game show, as well as to interact with visitors to the Gardenview Center and the public in general; and then there's the way she behaves when she's not performing--her genuine, true self, which is much calmer but also often feels harder to approach.

The high-energy, low-energy dichotomy that can be observed in Vee also exists between the twin masks, and so you can sort of. 'Assign' each brother to one of Vee's 'sides'. Razzle matches up with Vee's show persona, including the aspect of a mutual interest in performing. But... That's Vee when she's pretending. It's not her real self. It's Dazzle who better matches her true personality, meshes with her energy better, and even is closer friends with much of Vee's closest circle. And that, perhaps, adds to why he has an easier time starting to form a meaningful bond with her compared to his brother.

But of course, as I've already said, Vee grows fond of both Razzle and Dazzle in the end!

Friends. They aren't Vee's closest companions, but! Friends. :)

The thrown diagnosis mechanism is caught and inspected by a certain tall, blue Darkner, who proceeds to input his own name. The results? Well...

"Aha! Tis the same resulte no matter which length of name of mine thoust useth. That's how you know it speakseth the truth!"

So like... He rigged it, right? Used his rule-bending abilities to change his results somehow? Everyone's in agreement here?

"Nowe... Because of how cute I amst, and because mine Ass art Juicye, thoust should know that I am verye in demande."

"But! If thou happenst to be an... Evil Overlorde of sorts... Especiallye an all-powerful one... I thinkest we could—nay, should!—worketh somethinge out~."

A computerized sigh played from Vee's speakers as she stared at the makeshift rival 'shop' set up in the elevator. Her arms were crossed, which was typical for her, but her expression made it clear that she was not amused.

Normally, she and her teammates had a system. A deal, a plan. She helped keep the team alive: identifying and locating the Twisteds, sharing any other unique information her technological abilities granted her, using her affinity for the Ichor Machines to complete floors efficiently, and constructing strategies to get everyone through each floor as smoothly as possible. In return, the rest of the team helped her keep herself alive by letting her have first dibs on any Smoke Bombs or Eject Buttons they happened to find laying around. They were rare and valuable items, yes, but were also among the very small handful that she could actually use.

But of course, as usual, a certain someone wasn't too keen on being a cooperative member of the group.

It was funny sometimes, she could give him that. Seeing Dandy's cheerful expression morph upon realizing that he had competition, that all of 'his' tapes could go toward a different sink, a different shopkeep. The blatant reveal at just how utterly useless the Ichor Operation's head was, when another Toon could sell better wares while still risking his life in the Twisted-infested areas of Gardenview (even if his 'stock' would have been free without him around).

As a rule, Vee wasn't fond of troublemaking Toons under most circumstances. Such behaviour was disruptive and bothersome, making life more difficult than it needed to be. But to get back at Dandy? Sometimes, she could let Sebastian's antics slide.

It was much less funny, however, when those antics actively inconvenienced her.

"𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚒𝚜𝚗'𝚝 𝚑𝚘𝚠 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚒𝚜 𝚜𝚞𝚙𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚝𝚘 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚔." Especially not when Sebastian was the reason she even needed to replenish her personal stash of items in the first place. The light that emitted from her screen unfortunately made it easy for her to catch the Twisteds' attention; a fact that the other Toon was all too happy to exploit when he found himself being hunted down on a previous floor.

"𝙱𝚞𝚝... 𝚄𝚐𝚑, 𝚏𝚒𝚗𝚎. 𝙷𝚎𝚛𝚎'𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚝𝚊𝚙𝚎𝚜. 𝙽𝚘𝚠 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚖𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝙴𝚓𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝙱𝚞𝚝𝚝𝚘𝚗." Everyone had been through this song and dance with him several times before by now. It was pointless to try to argue. Plus, it wasn't like she was lacking in tapes, and Dandy certainly wasn't getting anything from her with the way his shop's stock had been lately. And Sebastian did still manage to find the button before anyone else did, even if that knowledge didn't make the situation any less annoying.

...At least he wasn't denying injured Toons a Medkit this time.

"Twas not a riddle for one of MY puzzles, so I knowe, I knowe, it Kinde of Suckse."

"But That. Is what I'm Doinge. Seeinge the Waye."

None of this had anything to do with the black eye he received earlier from those big, buff birdlike minions Queen had. Nor did it have anything to do with the aggressive reindeer Lightner girl who proceeded to punch him in his other eye not long after. Certainly not.

"And... The way... Be-est... HERE!"

Rouxls spun around, pointed in a seemingly random direction, and charged forward.

And ran right into a wall.

A loud bonk resounded as he made impact with it, but only briefly, quickly being drowned out by the sound of magic in use as he immediately enveloped himself in light and teleported away.

...He did still run into that wall, though. Everyone still saw that.

Hey there Delilah, do you have a favorite toon?

If Arthur was the one asked this question, she knew exactly what he would say. That he didn't have a favourite. That he loved all of his children equally.

But that wasn't true. Not for him, and not for her, either. It was simply a cop-out answer to placate invasive minds.

Which wasn't to say that Delilah disliked any of the Toons. Some were more trouble than others, yes, but they were all still her creations in the end. She couldn't deny a sense of fondness toward every one of them, even if she was typically too busy to spend time around them outside of check-ups and evaluations.

Her favourite among the cast, however?

Dandy had been the first, the start of it all. A Toon she'd had much one-on-one time with, particularly in those early days before the Center had any other Toons to call it home. Outgoing, optimistic, and cheerful, much like the 'father' who had designed him. Perhaps a little much when he was still alone, frequently trying to get her attention for the most minor of matters while she was trying to work, but she bore no ill will toward him for that. Busy as she always was and always tried to remain, the little breaks he would force on her had been... Nice, at times.

And now, with the Gardenview Center open for business and always bustling with the activity of Toons and humans alike, Dandy performed in his role excellently.

But...

Dandy had been the first.

Her first attempt at giving life to a cartoon. And with that first attempt came flaws, impurities. Breathing issues that never quite went away. An unstable genetic makeup. Imperfections. Personal failings of hers implanted into the star of the show.

She would fix him. Make him perfect, as Gardenview's brightest star ought to be. The... Recent incident caused by his instability had held a silver lining. Held ideas, theories on ways the flower could be improved, plans that now simply needed to be put in motion.

Perhaps then, she could truly call him her favourite. Her greatest, proudest creation. But not now. Not yet.

And Vee... A 'mini her', according to Arthur. Certainly the Toon whom she shared the most in common with. Kindred spirits, one could say. It made for enjoyable company, in those (admittedly rare) moments they shared the same space.

But that was a problem. Vee was never supposed to be that way; to be so much like her. That wasn't how Arthur designed her to be. Vee Version 1 was a failure, and one from the 'Main' class of Toons at that.

The traits she appreciated in Vee were ones that should not exist.

But at least she knew that Vee would understand. That Vee, too, would surely seek perfection just the same as she did. Could be pushed to achieve such goals without concern. She took after her 'mother', after all.

And she, like Dandy, was quite successful in her role. Even if it took additional work to get her there, she now outshined every other Toon in terms of popularity within the Center, save for the Lead she was never meant to steal the spotlight from.

But Delilah could never quite shake that feeling that things could have been better. That Vee could have been better, had she been made correctly.

Therefore...

"Pebble is my favourite."

Dandy's faithful little companion, following wherever he went. The second Toon she created. An easier task than most, despite his 'Main' status, being but a simple dog in all but form.

Yet for all his simplicity, the joy the little rock brought Dandy was near unparalleled. And Dandy's joy was Arthur's joy, and Arthur's joy was hers.

Many of her fondest memories of Dandy were ones that also had Pebble in tow. Not the least among them being the moment they first met. The delight that filled Dandy's eyes upon seeing the wriggling pup in Arthur's arms, the triumph that filled her own heart after working late into the night to finish her creation, knowing that her endeavour had been a massive success.

He could cause trouble at times; tracking dirt and mud from Dandy's gardens across other floors of the Gardenview Center, jumping on others in excitement and leaving spatterings of pawprints on their clothes, or being too clingy with his owner and whining incessantly when she'd try to (temporarily) separate them for examinations and evaluations. But that wasn't something to hold against him. Animals were wont to do such things.

Pebble never gave her any true issues. Despite being one of the first, he was a creation who was perfect from the start.

And... He was a very Good Boy. She wasn't immune to the good company a dog could bring.

" what the hell -- " bobby lifts the vessel up by the- well, horn ? pincer ? ear ? ( rude ) . " what even are you ? some weird ass fish ? "

That exclamation of confusion should be theirs, as they were suddenly gripped by the horn and hoisted into the air by an entity much taller than they were. They wriggled, swinging through the air in a weak attempt to shake themself free, but the Other only tightened his hold in response.

They were not trapped. If worse truly came to worst, they could shatter their vessel to escape their captor's grasp. Set themself free, in more ways than one.

But... It would be preferable to avoid that. Their replacement shell had only just been reforged.

They would wait, for now. Take better stock of their situation. They were not afraid. Large did not inherently mean danger; a fact that had proven itself true many a time throughout their journeys. And the grip, at the very least, was no strike to cause harm. They did not hurt.

The entity's single eye turned itself upon their shadowed sockets, and Ghost returned the gesture.

Bright.

The entity was bright.

The hue of Crystal Peak, but nonetheless a Light still reminiscent of that now-fallen goddess.

Large did not always mean danger, but Light often did. And engaging with a being of light in their true form could prove risky. They were held in a disadvantaged state at the moment, but if the other chose to attack, then perhaps their Nail could cut them free without the need to break their shell. Was the eye a weak point? Their Soul reserves were low, but a well-placed Shade Soul could likely--

The entity spoke once more.

True enemies did not often speak. And certainly not in the way that this one did; to express confusion.

Harm had yet to come to them.

...

Flames, too, were Light, but they were the light of Nightmare. Of friend, not foe. Of Friend Grimm and Bestie Grimmchild and their Troupe.

By appearance alone, the stranger did not look to be affiliated with the Troupe. Still, upon closer inspection, his light was one of flame.

But, clearly, he was not Void. And so, they could not respond to his inquiry. Especially not while suspended in their air by a single horn. Had they been on the ground, they would at least be able to write.

'Fish' was an odd assumption, however. Surely bug would make more sense? Still false, but one, at least, that had been made many a time by the true bugs they had met across their travels.

Regardless, Ghost stared at the flame-faced stranger in silence, awaiting their release from his hold. As long as the other did not turn violent, it wasn't as though there was anything else they could do, after all.

So Vee, what would have happened to you if Version 2 was implemented before Gardenview shut down?

She didn't know what was supposed to happen to her. What the new, big, 'upgrade' was meant to entail.

Was that why it still bothered her? The uncertainty? The gaping hole the lack of information left in her databases?

She didn't know.

But she did know that it was silly of her. Illogical. To remain so fixated on something that never did—and never would—come to be.

...

She had received plenty of system updates in the past. New optimizations to help her run more efficiently, or fixes for glitches or other issues that happened to crop up with her. It was a fairly regular occurrence, not unlike the rest of the maintenance work she received.

...Maintenance had never warranted a name change.

Whatever it was that the Founders had planned, it had to have been big. An upgrade, a change that would have turned her into an entirely new version of herself.

Wasn't she enough as she was? She did everything that was asked of her. She learned how to become the Toon they wanted her to be. She was Gardenview's second shining star. She wasn't perfect; she knew that. But that was an impossible goal. She still excelled at her work. Her glitching could be solved with minor fixes. It wasn't that big of a deal. It never disrupted her shows. Did they really need to change her? She may have been a failed creation but that didn't mean she—

Stop.
