Clarification: the point of MDZS isn't to distrust every rumour you hear. Some of the rumours in the prologue turn out to be right! The Jiang clan did take Wei Wuxian off the streets! Wei Wuxian did destroy (half of) the Yin Hufu before he died (and did ‘destroy the weapon’ in the sense it couldn’t be used anymore, because it required two halves to work)! He was one of the most promising cultivators and found success at a young age! He did die!
The point is thinking critically about the information you receive. Don't believe something because it suits what you want to think of someone, or because everyone else is agreeing with it. Believe it because there's strong evidence for it. Lan Wangji puts it best:
Lan WangJi slowly shook his head, “One should not comment without understanding the whole picture.” - Chapter 30, EXR translation
With Wei WuXian expanding on the reasoning (same chapter):
Just like you, I don’t understand the whole picture, so I’m not going to comment either. You’re right. Before knowing all of the turns and twists, causes and effects, nobody should presume anything about anything.
(And for context, this attitude is proven right! The conversation is about whether Xiao Xingchen performed lingchi on (severely tortured) Chang Ping, and there end up being so many unexpected twists and turns in his story that any judgement made without evidence would have been impossible to get right*. Wei Wuxian only makes his guess – that Xue Yang did it to take revenge for Xiao Xingchen, in his twisted way – after he has the relevant information of the Yi City quartet's story. And, seeing the nerves he hit, it seems to be correct.)
In fact, that's something we ourselves have to do throughout the course of the novel – weighing up what we know of Wei Wuxian's past deeds with what we see of his personality and actions in the present day. Those who still blindly trust the rumours up until the Second Siege are shown how unwise that is by being proven wrong... but that's not because having any opinion that happens to agree with a rumour, no matter the amount of evidence, is automatically wrong. As I mentioned, some of the rumours are correct! It's because how Wei Wuxian acted in the present day – ie the concrete evidence we have – didn't match up.
Blindly distrusting rumours is exactly the same as blindly trusting them.
---
*Without making a random, lucky guess. And since that would have no proof behind it, and a greater chance of being wrong... well, I think we can all afree that random unbased guesses aren't the way to solve mysteries.

I simply think this fandom doesn't give Wei Wuxian enough credit for the various ways in which he saved Lan Wangji
#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wangxian#idk man- i just see a lot of “Lan Wangji has always been protecting Wei Wuxian” posts and its like...#I mean... Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

This is actually really mean spirited and so patronising

"I can screenshot too 🤓"
Like is there any need to be such a belligerent asshole?? This is why you can't debate JC antis. Because not only are they unnecessarily rude, they still fail to empathise with JC in the original screenshot and make it into another way to start a pity party for WWX when this wasn't even about him.
JFM was a terrible father figure for BOTH of them.
If there are rumours going around that you favour your own disciple over your own son, so much so that said son thinks you hate him, then you have failed as a parent.
The example this anti provides in their rebuttal is the only canon example of JFM showing any love or even ounce of acknowledgement towards his own son. And that was because he knew he was going to his own death.
Of course JC and everyone else for that matter is going to assume that JFM favours WWX. Because up until that moment, he gave WWX way more attention than he did JC. JC even says that JFM seldom ever held him. And this was even whilst he was still a small child.
JFM overtly favoured WWX. There is no ifs or buts. But even then he failed him as a parent too. He did nothing to pacify Madame Yu's anger towards WWX. And he also put unfair obligations and expectations on WWX.
The point of the original screenshot is to demonstrate that JFM was an all-round terrible father figure for both boys. He may have loved JC, but he sure failed to show it when he was alive (even WWX couldn't rebut JC's point). And JFM did nothing to put JC's insecurities at ease.
Similarly, he did nothing to make WWX's situation any better in the Jiang household and essentially allowed him to be an outlet for Madame Yu's anger.
All JC fans want from JC antis is to sympathise with JC. No one is denying that JFM was shitty to WWX too.
He is partly to blame for the strain on their friendship. But JC antis seem incapable of even understanding that and would sooner prefer to solely blame JC.
Anyways, I'm not directly reblogging the original because this JC anti is clearly a troll. But it's a reoccurring theme I see in this fandom where JC antis can't accept that JC was a victim too. And to accept that whilst JFM didn't favour WWX, he certainly did prima facie and it made WWX's position in the household even more precarious. It was an unfair situation to put both children through.

Note
Crowyuan making a cameo in WWX’s donghua crow army. 😂
Listen, he took a wrong turn to try and find a certain artifact (was it important? Ehhhh. Was it shiny?....he wouldn't say NO exactly....) and got lost!! Luckily, he found a bunch of crows all flocking in the same direction, so he just follows them! Hold...hold on...is this a BIG PLOT MOMENT FROM ANOTHER BL?!??!?! WHAT'S GOING ON???

I love the Canon fact that mo xuanyus body is literally molding into looking like wwxs og body, imagine one day lwj wakes up only to be met with a similar person looking at him, an exact replica except for the fact his eyes are not gray as he remembers and he's not towering him.
