First it’s just small things, delivering tea for his jiejies, putting instruments back when they are done, dropping off various things.

Then he starts actually talking to SJ and SJ surprisingly doesn’t hate him just for being a guy (I’ve been thinking trans yuan here but also like cos yuan works, I this trans is funnier cause SJ is like ‘damn you CHOSE to be a man? L move bro’)

They start getting along more and more, working together on music SJ has to turn in for his peak, actually chatting comfortably, stuff like that. SJ realizes SY is an absolute monster freak and always tells him about the stuff he’s seen, long chats lounging on the same bed into the night.

Until one day YQY and LQG burst in.

SJ is instantly in protect mode, hissing and spitting at his sect siblings as SY groggily wakes up, watching them bicker. Eventually LQG says something along the lines of ‘well if you weren’t messing around we’d already be tracking down such and such beast’ to which SY perks up out of bed, quickly throwing on his clothes before anyone can so much as blink and is just

“Well let’s get going then.”

SJ quickly tries to stop the man, annoyed that his di would even entertain the thought of talking with LQG. SY though, does not give a fuck, throwing SJ a zither to use for musical cultivation, telling the jiejies bye and making them go out on their little adventure.

LQG and YQY are so confused, looking at this freaky little twink drooling over various things about monsters all the while SJ is giving them death glares and huffing.

YQY is extremely jealous watching SJ and this dude too, like bro! That’s his emotionally unavailable Shen! Get your own! He’s upset at how easily they get along, how SJ doesn’t care if his hand is pulled along or if SY tugs on him to whisper something. Anytime YQY had ever attempted such a thing SJ would pull or flinch away, making him stop

LQG meanwhile is just… confused. On one hand his moral code states that any courtesan isn’t a good person to be around. On the other hand this cute guy is getting excited over monster guts in a way he’s never seen before and it’s quiet fascinating to hear him do enough talking for the rest of the group.

I feel like eventually LQG and SJ are totally in love with SY and YQY is in love with SJ so they end up awkwardly paired together, all vying for another’s attention and stuff.

(If SY ever met airplane here he’d be so pissed by the way, chasing him around like a rhino and yelling about how he had to deal away with his pride (SY made the choice of going to the brothel, he doesn’t even do sex work though.) and the others just watch him like ‘wow, look at him acting so feral, kinda hot tbh)

y'know I think that if Liu Qingge actually did tell Shen Qingqiu (SY version) that he was lonely and asked him to be intimate with him, even just for tonight, as speculated in the Airplane Q&A, Shen Qingqiu would go for it.

like probably not after he married Luo Binghe (because infidelity), and at first I think he'd blank in shock and he'd need to quadruple check that he had correctly gleaned Liu Qingge's (extremely blunt) meaning, but after that... yeah. I think he would

because I think he'd want to, because he is attracted to Liu Qingge, he's just repressed about it. so I imagine his thought process would go:

-oh no I'm straight I can't sleep with Liu Qingge

-also this would be a terrible ethical violation because I'm his shixiong

-although as fellow peak lords we're basically equals so that probably doesn't matter so much

-I mean he is asking me after all it's not like I'm perving on him or anything here

-wow this is so deeply sad for Liu-shidi who has turned to me of all random people in his hour of need, only to be rejected

Shen Yuan has come to the decision that the best thing he can do after transmigrating is to fake his own death of a qi deviation in the Ling Xi caves and disappear. No human stick necessary if the protagonist can’t even find him. And, Liu Qingge will survive if there’s no scum villain to kill him!

Fate was not on his side. It turns out Liu Qingge really did have a deadly qi deviation in the caves, and Shen Yuan can’t just leave him to die! He’ll stabilize his qi and bolt as soon as the other man is stable.

However, Liu Qingge is a freak of nature. Practically as soon as he’s stabilized and Shen Yuan is ready to go, he wakes up. Shit.

Liu Qingge is no more happy with this situation. He owes Shen Qingqiu a life debt. Fml

Once he can convince Shen Yuan to not immediately leave, Shen Yuan makes him agree to help him fake his death and run away. Of course that honorless letch would run away from his responsibilities, but it’s not like he can say no….

LQG leaves the caves briefly for medical treatment (and to get supplies for SQQ to flee). Upon his return, they sneak out. SQQ is….. different on the road. A lot different.

He’s happy, excitable, smiling. Was he always really like this, hiding it under a cool mask in the sect? Is he playing at something? Was his life that bad as a peak lord?

Eventually they find a town in need of an apothecary. Shen Yuan buys the cottage and takes over the garden. It’s the perfect job, he can quote every plant from PIDW and its properties backwards and forwards. And with his knowledge of modern medicine, maybe he can actually help people in this world instead of just making his disciples miserable.

SQQ takes to the post like a fish to water. LQG has never seen him like this with other people- mere strangers of nowhere. But SQQ is smiling, helping people, doing charity work…. Had he always been this kind? This enchanting?

LQG makes the trip to and from the sect many times to check on SQQ and bring supplies. He’s hardly repaid a debt of life, so it’s the least he can do. He’s finding himself more eager to leave the sect than ever before. All the time he spends hunting monsters, it’s to bring rate ingredients to SQQ and take care of the beasts plaguing the villagers. The villages have come to expect them together.

The sect did not buy that SQQ died of a qi deviation that didn’t leave behind a body, and LQG poor lies did nothing to help. YQY and SQQ’s personal disciples have been pulling their hair out over his absence for the past several months. Eventually they follow LQG on one of his many trips from the sect, coming to an unremarkable village LQG has dragged a shorthaired beast to. In an apothecarian’s cottage, they find the missing peak lords leaning against each other by a fire, sharing a meal and talking like old friends….. more than friends is YQY is being honest.

Shen Yuan should be surprisingly good at makeup. Like, we all know that Shen Jiu could draw eyeliner sharper than Cheng Luan, but Shen Yuan had a meimei.

Imagine she has a school dance or something, and maybe a mean girl at school said something that made Shen-mei decide she was going to wear makeup for the school dance.

Now, of course, Shen Yuan and his geges make sure to tell her that the girl was just mean, and she's beautiful when she's comfortable and happy, not because of makeup etc etc it's all very good intentioned.

Even so, she says, she still wants to wear makeup.

So she buys some, and starts practicing. She's ... Not the best. Shen Yuan finds her crying in the bathroom with crooked eyeliner, mascara transfer marks on her cheeks, foundation and concealer in the wrong shade, contour that looks like a 5'o'clock shadow, overfilled brows, blush that won't blend...

He helps her take off the cakey makeup and bundles her into the living room, comforting warm drinks in hand. They spend the night watching makeup tutorials.

Step-by-step Shen Yuan learns along with his meimei how to do a full face of makeup.

The school dance goes perfectly, Shen-mei was the most beautiful resplendent girl in the school and had a wonderful time with her friends.

Shen Yuan and Shen-mei don't stop watching makeup videos and doing makeup on each other though, it becomes a shared hobby. Every few weeks, even into adulthood, they'd meet up, turn on some makeup influencer and take out their makeup brushes.

It was their special thing, something that just the two of them shared.

Cut to post-transmigration, during a visit for planning the 'garden', Shang Qinghua idly asks Cucumber-bro how he manages to draw the huadian perfectly every single time.

(I don't know the correct term, I tried looking for the proper terminology because what I believe Shen Qingqiu wears is some sort of scholar's mark? But I couldn't find anything. Please let me know if anyone knows the correct term!)

This leads to an argument wherein Shen Yuan decides to demonstrate his superiority.

They did forget that there was a Peak Lords meeting, and so Shen Qingqiu strolls in with flawless eyeliner, lips, huadian, the whole combo, and Shang Qinghua walks in with a red face and smudged eyeliner (it does look good though, fits his messy vibes).

Liu Qingge feels a little faint when he watches Shen Qingqiu absentmindedly press his fan to his lips, leaving lipstick marks on the fan. (SY wonders why at that moment, the System lets him know that his fan has leveled up.)

Luo Binghe is trying to figure out a way to get Shizun to teach him to do makeup... The thought of Shizun taking the brush to his lips, concentration furrowing his brows, letting Luo Binghe admire his face even more unabashedly then usual ...

Qi Qingqi changes her tune faster because she has to know how Shen Qingqiu got his eyelashes so perfect.

a liushen trope that is painfully hard to find is bai zhan peak lord liu qingge + qing jing peak lord shen jiu + qing jing disciple shen yuan.

imagine shen yuan being shen jiu's beloved head disciple. the one and only man that he does not hate. whenever shen yuan is off the peak he's moody and punishes people for the smallest things. that's his little meow meow, and just looking at shen yuans sweet face is enough to fight off a qi deviation.

when shen yuan goes into seclusion shen jiu is throwing up, threatening to kill people, crying at brothels, going insane. when shen yuan leaves the cultivation caves shen jiu is ECSTATIC and smiles for the first time in months. and that smile slowly freezes in place because he must be hallucinating right? because there's no way he's seeing his sweet beloved disciple after so long and he has that brute liu qingge hanging off his shoulder... right?

shen jiu's eye twitching as shen yuan explains to mu qingfang that he saved liu qingge from having a qi deviation. first of all WHY save him, second of all, why save HIM? his worse enemy ??? the bane of every peak lord meeting?? shen jiu HATES liu qingge

at least hes happy to have shen yuan back. but unfortunately he's not the only one, because a week later he opens the bamboo house to see liu qingge standing outside. and when shen jiu barks "what do you want!?" that bastard has the audacity to say "is shen yuan here" and then blush.

shen yuan hears screeching and then has to race outside to stop shen jiu actually trying to fucking murder another peak lord
