𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐭
lily doesn't know why, but she loves her sister. why shouldn't she? affection towards one's sibling isn't supposed to be questioned... right? right. petunia doesn't punch her in the stomach, nor drag her through mud. but she was mean. petunia would look at lily, and she would feel her lungs and stomach and heart curl up into itselves and cry. petunia would always look at her as if she did something wrong. petunia was mean.
lily hates saying it, because it's tuney. tuney's always been the grumpier one, but she was never mean. or at least, until lately.
lily loves her sister. lily loves petunia. tuney.
lily loves petunia the most, but also loathes her the most. she dreads seeing her face when she gets off the train, though she can't help but feel the warmth of the familiarity of her eyes. sisters were supposed to fight, but lily felt like they were a war. they were equals, but petunia acted as though she were better, and lily had an awful, gnawing suspicion that she wasn't. petunia was evil. mean, evil, not better.
lily hates petunia. and loves her. she misses her. she wanted to walk into her sister's room and drown her and hug her. she wanted her sister back.

lily evans being a nickname person is so special to me. not only do we canonically have “tuney”, “sev”, and “wormy”, but she literally married into a friend group with secret code names.
and there’s literally no limit to her nicknaming ability. I mean, we’re already pushing it with “wormy”—a nickname for a nickname. so why stop there. “jamie”, “pads”, and “moons” when she’s feeling affectionate. “monty” and “effie” for her in-laws. “jimmy” when she just wants to fuck with james. “harold” when it’s three in the morning and she’s sleep-deprived and harry won’t go back to sleep. need I go on.

do you ever think about how many little mannerisms harry and lily might’ve shared because harry was raised by her sister that harry never found out they had in common. what if they all shared the same cheeky smile, or isolated themselves when upset, and of course petunia never would’ve pointed that out, she’s petunia.

"harry potter is literally about wizards and magic stfu" just say youve never fucking read a book ?? or interacted with media and thought about it ??? that youve never tried to find meaning in anything ???? that even when the meaning is shoved in your face you ignore it because its easier for you to oversimplify complex characters because you dont get it ?????
harry potter tackles overthrowing the government, prejudice, exploitation, complex and heavily morally grey characters, war, prison escapees, death, child soldiers, guilt, abusive families, sacrifice & redemption, ptsd, corrupt governments, ethnic cleansing, betrayal, ethics of morality,

OKAY STOP can you actually imagine
eleven year old lily with an excited grin on her face instinctively turning to her sister when she first received her hogwarts letter
both of her parents absolutely just glowing with pride and having showered her with compliments
but the only thing that mattered to her then was her sister’s approval and just wanting to share that joy with her so badly
and then immediately feeling an awful sinking feeling as petunia’s dejected expression turned into a mocking sneer when lily’s eyes met hers 😭

Lily Evans has abandonment issues thanks to Petunia and Severus. Petunia is the major contributor as that's her big sister who should have been her eternal confidant and best friend, but who has been abandoning her in increments their entire lives. Petunia, whose love remains conditional and prejudiced, who loathes Lily's very being, her jealousy turning to spite and bigotry because if she cannot have magic then it is wrong, immoral, unnatural... and so is her sister by extension. And Lily, who has only ever wanted two people in her life, watches one of them abandon her for no fault of her own. And then there's Sev, and I know I said Petunia was the major contributor to Lily's abandonment issues, but Sev was her hope. He was the hope Lily carried that she was worthy of love, that she deserved better despite her own sister's screams of freak! Sev was the one who assured her of this every time she cried about Tuney, Sev understood her, Sev would never choose anyone other than Lily, right? Wrong! Sev chooses Voldemort and abandons Lily for a side that wants her own eradicated, expecting Lily to remain content with him treating her unlike 'other' muggleborns. She's the 'special' one from the group of filth he despises, she's the one who 'deserves' to live, she's expected to fall in line and watch her own people burn while the bigots rejoice. At the end of fifth year, it may have been Lily that walked away, but it was Sev who stole her hope the second he called her mudblood. For in the 'mudblood!' resounds the 'freak!', Tuney and Sev's voices blending as one, attacking Lily's very essence, destroying her hope and faith. So, Lily takes the abandonment issues and vows to take down Voldemort and kill every damn death eater that dares cross her path on the battlefield. She will have no other friends, her trust gone up in flames, her Gryffindor courage extinguished in the face of her fear of being abandoned once more. And she carries that fear and nurtures it against James, so fearful yet resigned of him leaving her (he never will and he will spend their lifetime proving it to her). Lily nurtures that fear far more than she ever gets to nurture Harry, the one love she hopes will never leave her. And yet, it is her who leaves him because there's no other way to save Harry. But her magic stays, her love stays, Lily stays. The girl who got abandoned stays for her baby boy. The girl Lily Evans, the freak, the dirty blood envoking old powerful magic, her blood taking down Voldemort in life and in death for her own creation, her baby Harry. Lily stays.

just lily and petunia with a bigger age gap, maybe 5/6 years, Lily being a witch and Petunia already applying for universitys and being horrified that lily is a witch and she isn't. Lily coming home one summer and Petunia just isn't there, she's in uni now, and whenever Lily is home, she doesn't come home. Lily doesn't know where to send the letters to Petunia so she just sends them to her parents, but she never gets a reply.
Lily crying because her sister left her, and they would never be a family again because of her. Lily&Petunia barely got to be Lily&Petunia and it was already over.
Petunia one day showing up and Lily being so happy that she's here, but Petunia barely acknowledges her. Lily crying because she will never be able to see her sister again, and she barely got to in the first place. Petunia moving as far away as she could when she finished uni and Lily didn't have her address, she could never even speak to her again. She wasn't invited to her wedding, hell she didn't even know Petunia had a boyfriend.
Lily dying knowing Petunia would never even know because their parents were dead, and assuming that she wouldn't even care.
Petunia coming home one day, with little Harry at her doorstep, and a letter saying her sister died and that's her kid. She didn't even know Lily had a kid, but she didn't really care. She barely knew Lily, she didn't care anymore, Petunia was 27 now and had a kid of her own.

so...snape fans have speculated where cokeworth is located in the england map or what it's equivalence would be. i've seen people speculate it's probably up north perhaps. maybe snape's a northerner.
however.
it's been stated multiple times that cokeworth is in the midlands. so we're thinking northampton, shropshire, stoke, birmingham.
but i prefer to think it's in the black country. mainly for these reasons:
1. cokeworth is an industrial town, even if spinner's end seems mainly abandoned, and the black country was the birth of the industrial revolution.
2. the black country was known for steelworks, glassworks and cokeworks which is maybe where the town got its title from.
3. the black country suffered from high unemployment due to the closing down of a lot of industrial sites in the 60s and 70s which ties into the idea of spinner's end being practically desolate now, and also the strain on the snape's household's economic position.
4. petunia met vernon dursley and marries him. his job was being the director of a firm that made drills. which are made of steel. steelworks anyone?
5. which leads to my last and favourite theory; petunia marrying vernon who perhaps also came from the black country then decided to name their child after something close to home. a nearby town perhaps - dudley.

do you think there are similarities between Petunia & Lily and Sirius & Regulus' relationships? P and S are older siblings, and L and R are younger "golden childrens", because i somehow feel jealous in olders and incomprehension in youngers in both cases, plus youngers died earlier, actually due to Voldemort's fault
Like, yes, there are similarities, but I think it's the opposite sort of similarity.
Like, we know Lily was the golden child on her family:
Oh, she got a letter just like that and disappeared off to that — that school — and came home every vacation with her pockets full of frog spawn, turning teacups into rats. I was the only one who saw her for what she was — a freak! But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that, they were proud of having a witch in the family!” She stopped to draw a deep breath and then went ranting on. It seemed she had been wanting to say all this for years. “Then she met that Potter at school and they left and got married and had you, and of course I knew you’d be just the same, just as strange, just as — as — abnormal — and then, if you please, she went and got herself blown up and we got landed with you!”
(PS)
A golden child whose sister felt abandoned by. Which makes Petunia sound more like Regulus and Lily like Sirius.
I think, that when Sirius and Regulus were children before Sirius ran away, Sirius was the golden child, not Regulus:
“Well, anyway, he was a big pal of your father’s at school. The whole Black family had been in my House, but Sirius ended up in Gryffindor! Shame — he was a talented boy. I got his brother, Regulus, when he came along, but I’d have liked the set.”
(Slughonr in HBP)
He had the same dark hair and slightly haughty look of his brother, though he was smaller, slighter, and rather less handsome than Sirius had been.
(DH)
Regulus is consistently described as "less" than Sirius. Less handsome, and less talented, and I think that was true at home, too. I think the reason Regulus went all out on blood purity and the Black family pride was that he was the second best to everyone except Kreacher. He wanted to prove himself worthy.
I headcanon Sirius was Walburga's favorite child. Kreacher does say that Sirius leaving broke her heart:
“Master Sirius ran away, good riddance, for he was a bad boy and broke my Mistress’s heart with his lawless ways. But Master Regulus had proper pride; he knew what was due to the name of Black and the dignity of his pure blood...”
(DH)
Sirius, contrary to popular fanon, wasn't unloved at home. I think Walburga and Orion loved him. I think Walburga saw herself in him. I think leaving them, realising everything they stood for was wrong hurt Sirius as much as it hurt his mother. After all, in OotP we see he chooses to stay in his parents' bedroom in his depression, not his own. He left Regulus' bedroom untouched, like a mausoleum. He still misses them, he loved them, and it makes his story all the more heartbreaking. Because you can love people who are wrong and who you know have evil ideologies, it doesn't mean you stop loving them instantly.
So, I think there is more of a connection between Lily & Sirius — golden, preferred children who are different among their families. Lily is the only witch in her family, and Sirius is the only Gryffindor in his family. Both are the smarter, more talented, more attractive sibling. Both of them ended up leaving home, leaving their families, for James Potter.
Then, you have Petunia & Regulus — stuck being second best, craving their parents' love and affection. The less talented, less attractive sibling. Both stick as close as possible to their society's version of "normal" to get the affection and pride they crave. Both hang out with people who are probably more extreme in these views than them and are more violence-prone than them (Death Eaters, Vernon).
So, yeah, I think there are similarities, just, not quite the ones you illustrated.
