Hello hello!
No garden post today, but I wanted to share some things I'm doing in the kitchen. After all, if the gardens producing then I need to be able to use and preserve things 🌱 as well, One of the things I've been learning along my sustainable/eco-journey is how to make food stretch better for my family. I like to think I've been pretty good at that over the years but with learning to grow my own crops as well as inflation hikes, i wanted to learn more.
This week I was researching ways to use up watermelons entirely. Surprisingly enough, I found that the rind and the skin are edible as well!
Usually I give what we don't eat to the chickens (the rind/green part) as a way to give them extra feed sources and to reduce my homes green/kitchen waste going out. Im not worried about them missing out though, With the way we eat watermelon they will still certainly still be able to enjoy the bounty melons provide.
This time I'm trying out some food use from a tiktok I found while doom scrolling the other day. The user morocooks, shared a video with uses of watermelon. This included a recipe on making watermelon rind kimchi. Now I enjoy myself some kimchii, it's good for the gut, delicious in soups, stir fry, as is and even blended into bbq sauce. But I've never tried kinchi that wasn't cabbage or onion. I've also never made it before either, so this will be a first on a few levels!
I didn't take a picture of the watermelon, but imagine a big watermelon 😉 to start I used salt and water to scrub down the exterior pretty well and gave it a good rinse after.
I peeled, sliced and cut the melon up. The flesh went in the fridge for dessert and snacks over the next few days and then came the usual waste/chicken scraps. The rind and the skin.
I peeled the skinoff, discarding the funky spots in the scrap bucket and then blended the watermelon skin with some water till smooth to make cubes for smoothie additives.
A lil online slouthing showed that Watermelon peels are low in calories, but are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium and zinc. And everyone can always use some more vitamins~
So far ive been mixing the melonskin w/ plain Greek yogurt, and some frozen fruit.
I did not blend the skins smooth enough, so definatly be sure their smoooooth! Or there's going to be a bit of texture that while I can get through, might be off putting for others.
The rind, cut up and salting.
A little internet slouthing says that Watermelon rind has high amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium and zinc. Watermelon rind is also rich in nutrients with chlorophyll, citrulline, lycopene, amino acids and flavonoids, phenolic compounds and fiber.
I also found out some folks use the rind in stirfrys???? I am going to give a try with the next batch! I admit possible curiosity as to wanting to attempt a 'sloppy joe' with watermelon rind too.
The sauce/seasoning.
All mixed and ready for the fridge! I did add some ribboned carrots and sliced white onion. (Leftovers from meal prep this week)
Admittingly I've never had fresh or varied veggies for kimchi before, so I'm not sure if this will get a similar taste profile. So far (day 3) it smells pretty good. The taste is a bit, different. I expected that, and look forward to seeing the flavor develop.
A few other things I did over the last few days was to freeze up some blueberries while their in season at the market.
I like to wash them up (cold water and baking soda ratio is 2 c water to 1 teaspoon baking soda. Let set 15 minutes. Stir every 5 gently. Rinse well.)
Dry them out on a towel on a baking sheet, then freeze them. Usually overnight.
when frozen pull up towel and funnel into freezer safe containers. I use a ziplock bag, but will reuse them till the bag is basically useless. Though when I'm able to I want to switch to a silicone bag or freezer glass.
I did the same as well with starberries (though I like to slice them into quarters for easier use later!) And cherries. (Pit them before freezing.) If I had thought about it I would have made some cherry pit vinegar for sauce, but due to time restraints I was just trying to move along quickly.
Today I'm cooking up some spaghetti squash for the freezer for quick meals s well. That's not done yet, but perhaps later I'll do a seperate post for that alone if anyone interested. :)
I hear the oven, so for now i'll have to head off-

Let medicine be thy food.
That's the quote, or at least you think it is. After a particularly long shift, words in English seemed to scramble together a bit, with it being your second language and all. Usually, you’re a natural, perfect, fluent speaker. There are moments, however, when understanding what your peers are saying or formulating cohesive sentences becomes a herculean task. You didn’t make yourself unintelligible, but it was a little awkward to be with a patient who clearly had no idea how globalized the world was and how many doctors in the United States were not native English speakers, and who looked at you like you had just robbed the white coat from a “proper doctor”.
Sure, dealing with people was shitty sometimes. “Doctors don’t treat people, they treat illnesses”, your boss had once said. But in your mind, people weren’t that bad. The long hours, the sleep deprivation, the lack of a social life — that was the really bad part. And there were, of course, the very short lunch breaks.
Medicine was fun, but it had nothing on a full plate of pasta with those weird looking meatballs. What once was disgusting, now seemed appetizing as hell. Not eating once while working for the whole night could do that to a person. Medicine was not food, at least not literally.
You had taken off your sweater and your white coat a while before going to the cafeteria, where the rest of the team was. As of right now, you and Chase had spent thirty-six hours working. Cameron and Foreman had taken the long straws and gone home last night while you and the prettiest doctor around worked on some lab tests.
That man who, right now, was not really trying to hide how he lustfully eyed you up and down, stopping on your cleavage. You didn’t blame him for looking, though. Firstly, you did spend the night working together and you mentioned that you did not have sex for the last six months, and secondly, you had nice boobs, which was both a blessing and a curse. Also, he was very much exhausted. Thinking about your coworkers in an unfashionable manner to keep awake was better than falling asleep atop of a patient during a lumbar puncture — you had done both, so you could tell, oops.
“I’ll die if I have to do any more thinking”, the pretty doctor said, accent even more prominent, letting his head drop to the headrest of his seat behind him.
“Yes, thinking just doesn’t come naturally to some people”, you laughingly replied, sitting down next to Foreman. He scooched over, making more room for you and your tray. There was enough pasta on your plate to feed two, not to mention the salad, the dessert, the can of Coke and the can of energy drink.
“Damn, kid, do you not have food at home?” You eyed Foreman, a little annoyed at the comment. Why did men think they had the right to comment on women’s food choices and bodies all the damn time? “Don’t give me that look, you know that’s a lot, especially for a girl who skips lunch every other day”.
“Not by choice” you said, taking a lot of pasta into your mouth. “Nof ba chos”, you replied, mouth full, making everyone at the table let out a tired laugh.
It was an uneventful meal. The team was really tired, especially Chase, who almost dropped his head on his plate twice. The four of you rushed upstairs when lunch was over, after being paged by your boss.
The man himself was pacing back and forth in the conference room, brows furrowed and looking extremely aggravated. Nothing new, then, you think, sitting down across from Cameron.
Allison Cameron and you had been friends since med school, and getting to work together was pretty nice. Women in STEM need each other, of that you were sure. The thing is, she was in a weird place romantically, which made you feel weird about getting along with the people about whom she was confused — which hardly makes sense, but it is what it is. She had a crush on your boss for the longest time, and that didn’t work out at all. And then there was Chase, who she had slept with, but had no interest in further pursuing.
Hanging out with Chase knowing he’d seen her naked was a little weird, but the fact they’d slept together wasn’t the problem. He liked her, and that was her problem. Your boss, well, he was everybody’s problem.
Particularly yours, considering… you know. The one-night-that-became-every-night. The HR-nightmare. The doing-the-devil’s-tango. The seeing-each-other-scars. The kissing-and-absolutely-not-telling.
It was fairly easy sneaking around. He was inappropriate, sure, but not big on PDA. He treated you like any other dumbass employee with boobs. If anyone saw the two of you leaving the hospital together? You worked together. If you were seen going towards the same place? You’re neighbors, duh. And if anyone happened to see the two of you having breakfast together in the little café a block around his place? Well, it was a coincidence meeting him there!
If they saw you giving him head while he tried to play the piano, well… There’s no explanation for that.
You looked at him coming and going, and you knew his leg must be killing him. Yesterday when you left his home in the morning to pick up your stuff for the day (which turned out to be the day, the night and the next day), he was popping more pills than usual. Shit.
“New case?”, Cameron asked, looking at the limping man with worry and care in her eyes. You liked her a lot, but she had to stop thinking about your limping man with such care.
Sure, she liked him first. And she probably worried for him just as she would anyone else. And it was ridiculous to be annoyed at your long-time friend for caring for her boss. Still, there was a sting of jealousy that made you want to bitch-slap her.
He finally stopped and looked at all of you. When his eyes finally met you, he looked right at your low cut top and let out a “Yowza!”. When you blushed and stood up to pick your white coat, he called your last name, and said, nonchalantly: “Nice boobs”.
You raised a hand to pinch at the bridge of your nose as you sat down. It might seem like sexual harassment — and at first, it was a little bit —, but now it was just him being as inappropriate as always. Hiding from his feelings, keeping his distance with pathetic remarks and cold attitudes. It made you sad when you started working for him, but right now, you pinched your nose to stop you from giggling like a sixteen year old cheerleader being noticed by the boy on the football team. Or rather, the boy on the bench cursing at the stupid players.
Dr. Gregory House had a massive crush on you, and that made all the shit he did go away.
You realized Chase started updating House on the patient you spent all night testing and monitoring. Truth is, that guy didn’t stand a chance for a normal life here on forward. At best, he had a benign hereditary chorea. Worst case scenario, it was Huntington manifesting earlier than it should, as you’d been saying from the beginning.
“Shut up”, House said to Chase, making those blue Australian eyes widen. Poor guy, he looked beyond exhausted. “I understand how DNA testing works. I went to med school too, remember?”
“Yeah, but that was seven hundred years ago”, you let out before you could think twice. You teased House a little for being older. Scratch that, you gave him a lot of crap for being older. You just didn’t do it in front of the team, which was why they all looked at you horrified.
Horrified, but Foreman was holding in a laugh.
The ‘old-man’ hit his cane on the desk, turning the attention back to him. “Ouch”.
You smiled, playing it off like a remark made by an exhausted overworked young woman who disliked her boss. House half-screamed some orders to all of you, even though he already knew you had clinic duty.
The hours left to finish on the clinic were manageable, so you could finish it after you did some of the tests House asked.
Time passed by too quickly, and as your day went by, you remembered you had to talk to Wilson as soon as possible. It wasn’t a life or death matter, but a peace of mind kind of thing. You decided to stop by his office before you It was then that you overheard something you shouldn’t have.
Well, that brought the high school memories right back.
It was the middle of the afternoon, also known as the beginning of your third shift in a row, and you were stopping by Wilson’s office to discuss a private matter. A family member of yours had cancer, and then another one. By the time your fourth relative came down with the diagnosis, you decided to check your genetic predisposition. Although the tests came back clean, meaning you were safe for oncology purposes, you still wanted to know his opinion on how you could be even safer.
You looked cancer in the eyes many times. You didn’t want to look at it in the mirror too.
For some godly reason, you stopped before knocking. That’s when you recognized your boss’s voice, complaining about something, per usual.
“She’s a baby! She had never watched Grease, for crying out loud”, the voice and the footsteps made their sounds in harmony. You leaned in closer to the door, to try and listen better.
“Well, you two barely know each other, now it’s the time to know if there’s a future in this relationship or not. And would you ever marry her?”, Wilson’s voice, and the words made you freeze.
“Not everyone has marriage on the brain 24/7, Wilson”, House replied. Even from behind the door, you could almost hear the engines in his brain turning. “And God, no. I could never marry her. I can do better than a gullible third-world princess”.
You froze.
Of course he’d say that. Of course. Even if he didn’t mean it.
The realization came like an electrical shock flowing through your body. You felt it, and it made the hairs on the nape of your neck rise.
You meant nothing to him.
As an immigrant, the feeling of never belonging is constant. You don’t belong in the place you now live, but you don’t really belong in the place you were born.
You had felt for a fraction of a second that you could find your place here. In House's department. Perhaps, even with House. God, you were stupid. You were a device for him to finish his puzzles, and an object to finish… Well, to finish himself off.
As you left your transe and heard the voices again, you ran as fast as you could back to the clinic, where you had a couple hours left to finish. There was something you needed to arrange with Cuddy, too.
Hours later, you were in the department’s room reading some exams when House walked in.
He eyed you up and down again, eyes lingering on your breasts a little longer than a boss’ eyes normally would. “So”, he took his bootle from his jacket and opened it, popping a couple of pills, “your place or mine?”
“You suck”, you murmured, angrily, but pouting a little. He’d never admit it, but he loved seeing you a little aggravated, crossing your arms in front of your body in a way that made your already eye-catching torso irresistible.
He smiled a little, putting the medicine back in his pocket. “No, sweetheart”, he now fully grinned, “that’s you.”
You rolled your eyes, but let your arms fall and a cold smile creeped into your face.
“Yes, I do, actually”, you rose up from the chair and walked all the way towards him, hitting your hand towards his chest and pressing the paper you were holding against him. “I’m a full on sucker, and ass-kisser, as you like to point out. That’s why your so called mortal enemy offered me a job in New York”.
He took the paper, blue eyes never leaving yours.
“Consider this my two weeks notice”. It was hard to say, but it felt a little good, too. Logically, there were no downsides in this opportunity. Then, why did it hurt so much? “I guess everyone was right. I can do better”.
The double meaning was not lost on House.
Your hand finally left his chest, and he didn’t look back as you left.
Looking at it now, it all seems so simple. It never is, though, is it? Especially with House. And you, an intelligent, kind, talented and ambitious young woman, could definitely do better than attach yourself to a crippled, bitter, odious older man.
You were doing better now. So, why, pray tell, why did this still hurt so much?

Fun fact: I know exactly who this is. No need to remain anonymous, or are you afraid of what your friends would think if they saw you telling strangers to kill themselves?
And I've attempted to before. The very first time I tried to take my own life was when I was 12. I took a handful of my medicine.
After I recovered, I started going to church. I found peace in worshipping God and Jesus Christ. I loved going to church, I loved being part of such a community.
I was raped at 13 inside of a church by someone I thought I could trust, and I tried to kill myself again when I was 15.
My view of religion turned sour, and I began to realize how fictional the Bible was, how evil it was. I turned my back on God and Jesus. If God's love is conditional, then I want nothing to do with it.
People like you, mindless Christians who follow an ancient book blindly, hoping it'll give you answers for the unexplained, it gives you comfort believing that there's something out there that you can trust.
And I respect that.
But for you to use such evil as a way to explain your immoral actions is unjustifiable. You ignore everything in those pages except for what you can use to hurt others.
Let's take a look at a few paragraphs.
Deuteronomy 22:5 - A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for whosoever doeth these things is an abomination unto the Lord thy God.
(Women aren't supposed to wear pants.)

Leviticus 26:29 - You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.
Ephesians 6:5 - Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.
Genocide, sexism, homophobia, racism, murder, and none of this is important to you because god forbid, someone's gay!

The First Saturday Night Dinner
"Burgers for dinner? Annalise, this isn't like you," Darion said, enjoying the burger regardless.
"Quite right," Annalise sniffed. "This is carnival food. I didn't pick this. Penelope said she would handle dinner and now we have to suffer through this disgusting meal."
"You could have just said thank you, but sure, you're welcome, Mother." Penelope had to fight not to roll her eyes. She offered to make dinner, she made dinner, she did not understand what the problem could possibly be.
"Now, Penelope, it's important to choose what food you place in your body with great care. 'Let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food.' So says Hippocrates, and so say I."
"So SaYs HiPpOcRaTeS. It's a burger, Dad. One burger. One time. Could we all maybe just lighten up? We can go to the pharmacy and pick up some chill pills if you need, I'll even pay for them myself."
"Do not speak to your father like that!" Annalise snapped. "He is teaching you a valuable life lesson. But of course, you can't be bothered to pay attention to anything unless it's accompanied by that terrible alternative music you blare into the night. Show some respect at this table!"
"This is outrageous! I made a joke! I volunteered to make dinner, I made dinner, I don't understand what the problem is! I was just trying to do something nice and then I just cracked a joke. It was a joke, mom!"
"Your jokes are tired, Penelope. Go to bed, I'll have the maid clear the table of this garbage. Maybe the racoons will like it."

“The day you tell the truth be sure your horse is saddled!” I personally thought I would never be an advocate of silence about magical world, spirits, and so on. I come back to agree on this point but only conditionally. Some people uses silence to obfuscate themselves to put themselves on a pedestal or some use it to just hoard stuff and not talk about what they're actually doing. You can bring the food, dish, and spoon for someone to eat, but you can't describe the food's taste to someone who's holding their mouth shut and think the food is bad and they rather scroll instagram looking at picture of food.

Just to make it clear, I am not with the idea of complete secrecy since there are some stuff that spirits agree with sharing and even encourage sharing with other people. I mean if people just wrote their own grimoires and kept their magical notes all locked up we wouldn't learn from one another, no? You can give person food, you can teach him to cook it, you can give him spoon, etc but the important thing or realistic thing is that you can't describe the food taste to someone who never ate it because they have no frame of reference.
Now some stuff that the spirits themselves told me went along the line of: "This can be a medicine for you, but it's definitely a poison for other" "Would you take responsibility if someone harmed themselves with this method?" "The methods and techniques are extension of the person's foundation, what I give you in 5 steps can take another person 1 step or a different person 10 steps" "Are you really helping people with sharing or are you just gratifying yourself"
A point to be made to oneself, it's like the analogy of a pressure cooker, you don't want the pressure cooker to let out steam so it can cook more efficiently. In that same mindset, some experiences are too profound and too sublime that sharing them would let the good roots taking place deteriorate. In that same sense you don't want the "ego" to attach to these experience by saying "I" caused and experienced these things because the most profound and sublime experiences happens outside of our control realistically. That's the essence of "To Keep secret" in 2 Corinthians 12:4 we read was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. Why is no one permitted to tell? because even if he tells it to you, you wouldn't understand it until you reach it yourself. Same analogy of describing what swimming is like to someone who never swam. Even the first Aphorism in Arbatel speaks about the same idea: the eyes of thy understanding shall be opened, to understand secret things; and thou shalt have whatsoever thy minde desireth to be divinely revealed unto thee. Thou shalt have also the Angels and Spirits of God prompt and ready in their nature to minister unto thee, as much as any humane minde can desire.
so again I will flip it to something relatable, you know about the people who take screenshot of other people's conversations or who gossip here or there about this or that tea, a lot of us and I include myself in this category. Really think about who people think of you if you're always gossiping about this or that, who are you as a person? gossipers are everywhere but if a spirit trusted you with a secret and you revealed then do you think the spirit will trust you anymore? if your friend finds out that you EXPOSED him and talked about tea about him then what does he think about you? wouldn't he feel betrayed..? same with spirits. I leave you to think about that :)

Hi,
Can you pray for me and ask God to help me and I just wanna put a trigger warning here in case but I’ve been struggling with an ED for a long time. I have had help before and even then I think my outlook on certain things is what keeps me coming back to it :( I would like God to help me but change my outlook as well. I think he’s definitely doing it, breaking chains but the one thing that seems to be sticking in the back of my mind is so ugh! It’s not something I want to feel and it’s a lie - which is that I can only have a good time or have ‘peak’ times if I’m thin or skinny idk if this comes from social media and it’s so gross because I KNOW it’s a lie and actually I’m legitimately miserable most of the time because of it which is obviously not giving me peak anything lol but I know this needs to change I don’t even want this to be something that creeps in at any time I wanna fully be so focused on living with Jesus that those lies don’t stand a chance
Hi! I’ll absolutely pray for you. I know this is a very tough time for you and I have known a couple people who have ED. What I am doing now flipping that around. We do this by recognizing our flesh is not all we are, but rather, recognizing that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. Let God be a resting place in you. When we eat, drink, have medicine in proper amounts, we are doing so just for ourselves but we do this to sustain the gift of life and take care of the temple. God created good foods of fruits, vegetables, water, and animals for meat and fish. These are good. The bad are chemical foods which can destroy the body quicker. We can turn each bite and sip into a prayer of thanksgiving to God for life. Once we get brave to do that, we can do the same for other self care like taking our medication, showers and baths, combing and cutting our hair, buying modest clothes that fit our body type, taking care of our teeth and gums, making sure we have a new pair of shoes, getting the right amount of sleep, etc. This is not to judge you or lecture you (or anyone reading this by any means) but rather, inspire you and give you hope that healing is possible with God because with God nothing is impossible. I pray you find solace in this message and find hope in His love. I love and God loves you. God is love and mercy itself.

Garden repost~
Hello and Welcome to the garden!
Today I have a bit of a smallish and short post~
The pumpkin is developing pretty good, the one on the trellis is a little smaller than this one. I'm starting to see new flowers on the vine, but I think I'll be picking them to use for stir fry/fried rice varient, ommlettes, or salad.
The first planting of the velour beans is starting to get what I think might be the end of their cycle, a few more flowers arrived but the plants aren't really b taking off to much in growth or producing. If I recall right I got around 48 oz of beans. (Their being crowded out by the sunflowers now.)
I'm gonna leave them in and jsut see how long/well they do.
Starting at the far left, sunflowers+ velour beans and pumpkin
2nd in from left. Starting closest to us. The broccoli and nasturtium. I'm gonna pick some of the broccoli leaves this week for pan fried veggies. Broccoli leaf+rice (not sure if blanching, pan fry w/garlic+butter or a cheese/broc soup.)
3rd row from left starting closest. The eggplants, who have some flowers but I've not seen any eggplant yet. Cabbages (2), they've got little heads coming in. I have not yet sprayed down with the tea but I haven't seen much more pest issue. And last the cucumbers. One is pretty much done, the other has teeny lil cucumbers coming in, but I don't expect too much more growth from them. If they do I may just let it go to seed and see if it does better next year in a different spot.

Finally got down to the hardware store. We got wood, pipes for extending the garden fence, dirt and some time.
We got 2 boxes made up. So next step is to get the fence panels made up to extend the garden space and protect it from the stray/feral cats.
I got peppers, tomatoes seed started this week, though im hoping I didn't lose a tray of peppers due to a watering malfunction. (Always check your seedlings daily!) I also got some garlic in the ground and some ginger root too.
Thats it for my update for now :)
