actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

I don't want to be mean but you all sound batshit when you try to convince milkvans byler is real by talking about pure subtext and color theory and "Mike was checking Will out in this scene!!!" there's CLEAR plausible deniability in your own interpretation of someone's acting. The duffers intentionally kept it all vague enough that most people wouldn't figure it out until they get the chance to shove it into people's faces and if the majority of people look at the scene you're analyzing and go "aww they're finally friends again yay" and you go "Mike was blatantly checking wills ass out in the beginning" when...he was taking a breath to settle and prepare to reconcile with someone he's been "off" with for a year... you end up sounding a little insane. Those types of takes are subjective, and you can make a funny video with zooms implying that that's what he was doing but actively trying to convince someone your headcannon is canon will almost always make you sound deranged.

There's a reason you don't go up to milkvans and go "b-but blue meets yellow in the west" and start talking about the intricacies of making film and how everything is on purpose, that stuff isn't for normies. rewatching the first episode of Hannibal and holy shit I forgot how good this is but it's actually insane that Brian fuller set up the ep like this, he introduces will and Hannibal by first briefly showing them at their core, at the darkest, most vile part of them---we get a glimpse behind the curtain---and then its gone, the curtain is snapped shut and we see their masks, their human suits.

Will empathizes with killers because he likes it, and he wants to kill but he refuses to give into the urge because he knows how much he'll like it and he won't be able to stop. So he lives vicariously through other killers, satisfying his own dark urge by feeding it little morsels of secondhand blood lust. Every crime scene he works gives the urge something that satisfies it, not enough for it to grow, but enough for it be sate. Enough that he can ignore it for long enough that he can walk around and be Professor Will Graham who is Weird, Brash, and Non-sociable.

Man obviously there’s a bunch of really unfortunate consequences to Elon’s mishandling of twitter but the thing that really got to me after a while was how lonely it feels to use the platform now. I only follow my friends and a couple of artists yet my whole dash is filled with total strangers and blue checkmarks trying to farm engagement. There’s an unblockable ad every three tweets (two if you’re counting the bots trying sell me something). There’s no lingering on interesting videos cause they all autoscroll tiktok style (with ads every 3 vids). Following someone means zilch so if I wanna see what the friends I use the platform for have been up to I have to manually go to their accounts & half the time the first tweet I see is an announcement that they’re leaving. It’s such a dead mining town of a website, but instead of dying because the mines just naturally dried out and people left for greener pastures, it’s dying because the newly appointed nepobaby Sheriff got really into building a 7-story mall in the middle of the desert without ever stopping to think what it’d do to the local economy and wildlife, or even if anyone needed an apple store and three taco bells in the middle of the outback.

wanted to say I appreciate your nuanced takes on MW and especially Curly. i don't get the claim that the fandom is full of Curly apologists when majority (esp yt and tiktok) say he's worse than Jimmy. Yes there's commentary about bro culture defending people, he def messed up in trying to placate Jimmy (tbh "we'll fix this" sounded more like trying to keep someone prone to outbursts like Jim calm and not hurt Anya/himself) but I don't think he did nothing to help Anya, since she continued to confide in him and he had less than a week to resolve it before the crash (I also don't get everyone saying he knew for ages when it seems like Anya told him that same week). I get Jimmy's a pos but saying stuff like Curly should've known he'd crash the ship or that Jim had a criminal record he ignored, reducing them to obviously horrible villain and willfully ignorant sidekick feels like a disservice to the game. If your best friend turned out to be horrible, what would you do in a confined space in the span of a few days to respond? I'd say some of the horror comes from trying to do good but ultimately failing, Curly's state after the crash is meant to be tragic horror not revenge/punishment

A lot of information we have to supplement when it comes to how long things have been happening on this current ship. I think people try to add on to the horror and negligence by making things more obvious so it can feel like it was easier to avoid when, true to life, its not. Jimmy clearly didn't deserve or appreciate what Curly did for him in getting him the job, but do you think if Jimmy was that big of a menace on Earth he would've given him a position where he could have that level of power over people's lives? There's something in the fact he specifically chose to pick a position so close to himself where he could watch Jimmy.

I hate the bro code argument because that is a whole can of worms people really don't get. That sort of mentality is born from the general respect and preference of male matter over female ones. Curly is clearly not that guy, he is absent minded about the issue and inadvertently dismissive but he clearly believes Anya, he just can't understand what she's going through. It's an onslaught of information that no one really reacts right to. Additonally, the entire discussion of her assualt plays to heavy into the idea that there is fault outside of the perpertratior when it comes to SA. It's too close if she only did this or if Curly had protected her better but the fact of the matter is Jimmy did what he did. He did it before any of the conversations with Anya about it and it's why her behavior seemed to change so drastically in those last two days.

He has other conflicting thought and while his role as a Captain should've taken over, people act like it's not a very human thing to have such a toxic presence cloud your judgement. It is never easy to separate friend from coworker once that connection is formed, you want to help them, especially if they were friend first and for a long while like in this case. It's not right, but people act like it would be easy when the game clearly points out that no choice is easy to make, especially when you have to make it for more than one person. You have the weigh the consequences, look at all the options and make a plan. People can headcanon and decide how long things where happening, but if we look at what we were presented through the characters eyes, the only person given time to do that was Jimmy.

He waited two months after the crash to appoint himself Captain. Every time a problem was brought up he immediately took action and refused to sit on it and find a better solution. I think it's important to look at the warped way Jimmy takes initiative where Curly didn't as it works as a good contrast of why you don't just run in to "fix" things. The quickest and easiest option may not be the safest or most beneficial. I think some thoughts on the game suffer from the black and white thinking the game doesn't operate on along with us being voyeurs. We see what exactly led to what but the characters don't. They don't have the hindsight and foresight we do and even ours is scrambled by the non-linear story telling.

Like it's hard to talk abuou those grey zones without sounding like an apologist because you're explaining why taking responsibility isn't easy. It's not and it's weird to act like it would be in a scenerio that led up to the events of the game knowing what we know. We see all these characters in such isolated moments with various things before, in between, after and even during we aren't privy too. The idea that Jimmy is worse than Curly heavily banks on the words Jimmy was saying to Jimmy before he crashed the ship. That whatever happened on the ship was his responsibility to bare, which is true due to his position. But, are they not still not responsible for taking the actions Curly then must bare?

Like i feel like people think that these are situation that become easier with age or when you are in a postion of authority and they aren't. You don't lose your biases or gain some sudden knowledge that makes it easier. It just becomes more tiring as you keep dealing with it. I would be first in line to say Curly fucked up and should've done more but the idea he knew how bad it could get or he really saw the worst in the people around him and ignored it pretty much ignores a huge aspect of his character and the game.

Idk it bummed me out. I sink a lot of time and effort into this dog. I take him to a professional trainer, I walk him five times a day (actual structured walks up and down the street, not just let outside into a yard) not even including game time where we play fetch, I take him to a groomer on a six week schedule just to make sure his nails get cut by someone competent, he sleeps indoors and doesn't even need to be crated anymore.

I feel like I'm doing very well as a dog owner thank you very much. You're going to have to forgive the boy for being excited to meet new people.

I come to you humbly to ask that Joan the disservice cat gets a redemption arc. I read a story once about a cat that was so noisy it lead rescuers to its missing elderly owners. Maybe while Eddie is gone something happens health wise to Steve and while Ozzy absolutely has the situation locked down Joan goes and finds a neighbor (Diane?) And yells until she follows her back to the house. Steve is absolutely fine but embarrassed that his arch-nemesis was the one that helped him and Eddie copes by making increasingly unhinged jokes about how Steve is so passive aggressive and dramatic he literally tried to die (he was not near death at all) while Eddie was playing in Las Vegas.

Right out the gate, I wanna say that I love this. It’s so freaking cute. Joan doesn’t really need a redemption arc because she really is a sweet cat. She just got bad editing and she doesn’t care about her bad reputation *guitar riff* but that being said, absolutely yes.

Eddie found Joan in a storm drain one night when it was raining really hard and brought her home. She was so young that he had to bottle feed her until she was old enough so Joan does love Eddie, but she loves him the way a rebellious teenager does  - with all her heart but also with a healthy dose of mischief. She loves Steve like a baby that needs looked after.

They already had Ozzy by the time they got Joan, so she grew up watching the way that Ozzy interacts with Steve and kind of mirrors those interactions in the same but distinctly cat-like manner.

It’s not a big seizure.

Steve will say later that it wasn’t a big seizure, but it happens during meal prep and he’s holding a knife. It’s not even two minutes – probably – but he’s holding a knife and when it’s over, he’s bleeding. It’s a lot of blood all at once and Steve is probably fine, but he’s a little bit woozy. A little exhausted. He’s also probably got a bit of PTSD about seeing a lot of blood all at once on account of the time he saw his future husband nearly bleed to death in the arms of his pseudo-son/little brother.

It results in Steve sitting on the kitchen floor with a rag held to his cut hand as it gets more and more saturated with blood while Steve tries to claw his way out of a bad memories and bone-deep exhaustion. Ozzy obviously tries to take care of Steve while he’s distressed – he’s trained to do so, but it takes time.

Diane is the perfect person for Joan to go to because Steve does not like her. Steve thinks that Diane treats him like he’s ‘delicate’ and that she knows all about epilepsy because she used to work with a woman whose son was epileptic. She treats him the way that some people treat pregnant women, like he shouldn’t do anything because of his condition. It drives him insane, but Joan is a cat. She does not pick up on that.

She knows that Diane is a woman that has been at the house multiple times and that interacts with Steve. There’s no one in the house for Ozzy to alert, so Joan wiggles herself through a cracked window and makes her way down the street.

She is obviously not going to the neighbor across the street, Dan, because his house reeks of dog. Diane is not Steve and Eddie’s immediate neighbor, but she is the one that Joan goes to and meows loudly on her front porch. She is scratching the hell out of her front door when Diane finally answers it to see what the ruckus is all about.

Diane recognizes Joan as Steve and Eddie’s cat, so she ends up following her back to their house just to return the cat. Steve never remembers to lock their back door so that’s now Diane gets into the house.

Once Steve comes out of the post-ictal fog, he’s mortified that his least favorite neighbor managed to get him into a car on its way to the hospital and was talking to his husband on his phone. It’s mortifying. He’s fine. It’s a small cut that requires three unnecessary stitches.

Diane keeps going on and on about that sweet little guardian angel of a cat of theirs and Eddie declares in all his flamboyant fashion that Joan has graduated from a disservice cat to a service cat (this is revoked the first time she trips Eddie on the stairs). He even posts a picture on the Corroded Coffin official Twitter page of Steve asleep with his wrapped-up hand and Joan curled up on his head. He captions it ‘my hero’ with three emoji hearts.

He clarifies later that he’s talking about the cat, not the extremely sexy man underneath.
