i wanna talk about this portrayal of sally jackson and how it feels notably younger than the 2010 movie or even the musical. obviously her age is never explicitly stated there or in the books, but mama was sitting on the fire escape in the rain listening to olivia rodrigo and thinking about her ex. she's giving big 30-something millennial energy and i think that's so important in the context of HER story as a young mother alone in the world just trying her best. i think percy paints her as this angelic, caring, gentle presence that can do no wrong but the pov shift in the show lets us see her rougher edges, the places where she wasn't always perfect. and maybe im reading too far into this but if you reframe her and percy's relationship within the context of her being that young, of them reaching this quasi-gillmore girls space of "you are my baby but you're also my best friend and all i have in this world" idk it just feels a lot deeper somehow, like they're giving sally more dimension and development earlier on and i'm so excited to see her arc progress in future seasons

Nomura was insane for that statement he made. I know I should be focused on the foreteller part of it but I'm stuck on the inspiration for so much coming from the story of an American blues musician meeting with the devil to get guitar skills.

Like on one hand. Darkness/mom, mom/foretellers, marluxia/sora, mom/xehanort and xehanort/terra all being the devil and guitar player throughout the series imo. But also all I can think about is the devil went down to gerogia because that is so xehanort and sora to me in kh3 like is that literally not their vibe and it's also such a hysterical vision in my mind. I'm sorry like:

"Well, that ol' Devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat

And he laid that golden fiddle down on the ground at Johnny's feet

Johnny said, "Devil, come on back if you ever wanna try again"

Also "this means demyx is mom" I will kms if that's the truth. I think its funnier if demyx also somehow "made a deal with the devil" but he's the only literal interpretation of this story in kh and that's why he has a sitar it would incredibly hilarious

wyll insists that it's HIS choice to make the pact and to leave the city. bc owning it as his choice means he can rationalize some sort of control over it. acknowledging it as anything else would mean that he was forced into it. that it's not actually his fault. that it's mizora's fault (which he does acknowledge) but more importantly that his father did him wrong. and that idea just Does Not Compute. so. rather than realizing and accepting that his father is human and made mistakes and hurt him, wyll would rather just take all the blame and make it his choice.

and being on the road constantly fighting battles meant he probably never had to sit down and think about the Implications of what happened to him. add the fact that he literally could not speak the truth for seven whole years. he had to fill in the gaps. more and more rationalizing to make it make sense to others and to himself. it's free emotional repression

I’m just thinking about how satisfying it was to have a kids show say “no, you aren’t as bad as the villain even though you may have done similar things because it’s not just about what you do but why you do them” For King’s dad to tell Luz that they are different from Belos because they were acting out of love and care versus his pure hate is such a nice change of pace in a kids show? The actions were still recognized as harmful, but there was recognition of intent and a grey area in why we do the things we do. Idk i’m sure if i took the time to sit down and think through my thoughts I could say plenty more about how this speaks to different schools of ethical thought and why many argue that it is not just the result of actions but the intent of the actions. but also how intent does not make the harm disappear. and the importance of recognizing the nuance and circumstance of individual acts rather than trying to apply a generic formula to judge how ethical a given thing is.

Spreading some Shen Jiu positivity coz I need it lol.

You know what's so great about Shen Jiu? It’s that we don’t have a clue what Shen Jiu would’ve been like if he had a chance to heal from his trauma or was equipped to deal with it. (That includes learning coping mechanisms that don’t involve lashing out on other people and getting the TLC he deserves.) We have already seen him at his worst, I wanna know what he’s like at his best!! The world nerfed him with trauma and angst coz it knew a Shen Jiu with mental stability would be a force to be reckoned with. He embodies the quote “Jupiter was meant to be a star but failed.” This is why I love Shen Jiu fics so much (at least the ones where he heals and all that). No coz I'm not getting over the fact that he used a powerful sword flying technique during the burning of the Qiu manor without practicing it first and only saw it once before just straight up pulling it out of his ass like- Or that he become a peak lord despite every fucking disadvantage thrown at him. Also! I'm pretty sure his spirit roots and cultivation talent was equal to, or even greater than Yue Qingyuan as a kid before it got ripped away from him LIKE WHAT- 

Everyone has their own interpretations of Shen Jiu’s character and it's nice to explore. Ofc I don’t like the way he is in canon. If he was a real person, yall would hate him too. I like Shen Jiu for the potential he had as a person and who he could’ve been. And I like coming up with AUs and ideas for how things could've gone differently for him because, for me, there's something so therapeutic about seeing/writing characters break cycles. Shen Jiu not having done so in SV had a narrative impact by emphasising how people display problematic and violent behaviours in response to trauma. That is why the protagonists and male leads of MXTX novels are written the way that they are, to contrast the villains. Characters like Xie Lian, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are examples of people coping with their trauma positively (semi positively if I'm being honest but the point remains). So excuse me for making Shen Jiu the protagonist in practically all the fics I'm working on lol.

Technically you can’t even say Shen Jiu is OOC for these kinds of SJ fics, coz, again, we don’t know what he’s like if he actually got the help he needed. There's this fic called Residing Over Autumn Leaves, where Shen Jiu’s personality is so malleable that he completely reflects the environment he was around in his earlier years. He suffers through a Qi deviation that actually erases his memories and he becomes a white lotus Jiumei. It’s because he was in Qing Jing peak most of the time and all his disciples and martial siblings protected him. And then there’s fics like The Hidden Flower, and the Memories Remembered series. Those speak for themselves. I'm assuming yall read them coz they're pretty much the most popular Shen Jiu fics on AO3 lol. 

Btw, I am NOT looking to argue with anyone over smt like this. Like YES I know what he did, and made sure I had that info (coz the spreading of misinformation is wild).

But I hope it's at least undeniable that he deserved to heal for what the Qiu's and Wu Yanzi put him thru??

you know that custom that monsters spread dust over the persons favourite thing? do you think Dust, after killing Undyne, would take, like, a piece of her armour or her eyepatch or something to put in Alphys' dust when he kills her? do you think he ever goes back to put Alphys glasses in Undynes?

You know how Sans is canonically the guy who kinda knows everyone? do you think Dust would want to do it for EVERYONE, when he realistically doesnt have the time, but that he make the exceptions for the people he was once close to? do you think he puts the cinnamon bunny monsters dust over her bun, because its so close he can manage that one? or the librarians on their books? do you think he feels guilty for the ones he cant manage? do you think he thinks of it as doing a good thing for the people he lost, or has he deluded himself into thinking that way, when in reality, it comforts him more than them?

something about diomedes and his adoptive brothers just OUGH.

like at first, when he's young, its aegialus - his sister's husband, heir to the Argive throne. aegialus teaches him how to use a spear. how to calm a horse. how to speak in a way that men will listen to what you have to say. diomedes is easily the youngest of the epigoni - he feels more at home when aegialus takes him under his wing. saves a seat for him amongst the older boys when they eat. makes sure his bedroll doesnt end up too far from the fire. aegialus braids his hair for him before they seige thebes.

but then aegialus is gone, ripped apart in a chariot wreck with the theban prince laodamas. diomedes almost is the one to put aegialus out of his misery, but then sthenelus is there, tugging him away from the carnage.

sthenelus, who is so excited with the summons to aulis comes. talking about glory and honor and trojan gold. and diomedes is older, more capapble now, and it feels good to be on the battlefield with his brother. for a while. yet suddenly its been a decade and the infighting is ridiculous - but he can vent to sthenelus about it and sthenelus hates it too. sthenelus still braids his hair before they dive into battle so that it doesnt get too matted with blood. diomedes brings back the horses of aeneas almost as a gift to sthenelus, to make their chariot faster, better. they watch each others backs. sthenelus sits in silence with diomedes after odysseus tries to kill him in cold blood.

sthenelus volunteers to go in the wooden horse since diomedes and odysseus had a falling out.

sthenelus is mortally wounded by a son of priam in the sacking, and its diomedes who has to finish him off so that he doesnt die slowly and painfully.

and its just. what if you had two brothers who taught you everything and kept you safe and were there for you even though they werent really your brothers at all. and what if they died. and what if you almost had to kill one and did have to kill the other. and then after that you find out your not-nephew usurped your throne. OUGH.
