"Be Our Guest" original draft storyboards vs final film (💖)

The song was originally written by Ashman and Menken to be sung by the enchanted objects to Maurice instead of Belle. However, story artist Bruce Woodside felt that the song would make more sense if it was sung to Belle, the main character, as opposed to secondary character Maurice, and directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale agreed.

‘It was on the third day of shooting that [James Wilby] first met Rupert Graves to discuss the physical side of their relationship over dinner with James Ivory. The director instructed them in Edwardian practice: mutual masturbation was in; oral sex was out. Kissing was out, too; nevertheless Ivory felt that the two men should kiss at the end to show the depth of their emotions. “Rupert and I were strangers,” Wilby recalled, “so we ummed around the subject a bit, then I said, ‘I think they really go for it,’ and Rupert said, ‘So do I.’ That’s how we did it.”’

I drew something similar a couple years ago but have been wanting to revisit it — both are some of the earliest lgbtq books with a happy ending and I cherish that a lot. Also, trying to post a version without the panels with nudity to see if Tumblr will accept it this time
