little thought before school that i just finished: i love and adore paladins so much-> and literally ever single paladin i can think of is one of two things:

they’re either divine and holy, warriors that have devoted their lives to their oaths. they help people, preach praise and wax poetic about their god. Their oath dictates how they live, upholding strict standards. they carry a burden only understood by their fellow paladins. they’ve given up so much, expecting nothing in return.

or its like some guys (who would make a great sorcerer and/or fighter). and like… i guess he has a oath, if he has to. like bro thinks hes so much “holier than thou” just because the gods like him.

Jrwi riptide au where chip becomes consumed by niklauses compass and heads to the black sea alone. Gil and jay spend months trying to get him back and snap him out of it but Gil is captured by the undersea and forced back into being a warrior. Jay returns to the Navy because she cant sail alone. After a year Chip has become a pirate king, equal only to lizzie. The two launch a pirate war against the navy who responds. Meanwhile the undersea attacks on an entirely separate front.

Chip isnt kind or soft anymore. His toughness has become real and his skin has hardened.

Gil has lost his hope for becoming loving and accepting of change, and instead has been trained to accept demands.

Jay is the only one who still has a glimmer that this can stop.

The climax of the story occurs as chip and gil are fighting in close range combat. An explosion knocks the two of them down beneath the deck and the hull starts filling with water. Jay jumps down and holds gil back, begging the two to stop and listen for a moment.

uh yeah, anyway. i just wondered what it would be like if the story was more dark and the crew never got that far together but still yearned for what could of been.
