idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.

I don't think a lot of people realize that lot of their advice to disabled people often boils down to "Get over it." they are trying to be helpful but their idea of helpful is "Just do the thing" because that's what they do. for them they just do things. It comes naturally to just do it.

They don't know how to bridge the gap between you and the task. For them the bridge is already pre-built and stable. For disabled people the bridge is run down, not well kept, it feels unsteady and is hard to get across without being slow and cautious - hell for some people there is no bridge and we need to build it ourselves but we don't have the bridge building tools and no one gives them to us.

"Just cross the bridge." They say before walking over their pre-built bridge. They never gave you the tools to build a bridge to cross.

the thing that will save us - not on a national scale, but in our everyday lives - is to strive to be kind to each other. the us is consumed by anger and individualism and that will fester in the coming years as it's instigated and encouraged by the people in charge, but we have the option to be kind. to people we see in the grocery store, to our waiters and the people who work on our cars, to our teachers and our students and our elders and the generations coming up after us. offering active kindness to people who need it when things go to shit even though it's easier to focus on our own pain is one of the most radical things we can do.

I think it's been generally accepted that the simplest answer to people asking if dnp are a couple is, "well they built a house together, so make of that what you will" because that's the only really concrete fact we know of that speaks to their current relationship status. but sometimes I think - damn, is that even just an important *clue* to the status of things? or is that kind of *it*? is there anything more you need to know about two people than that, at the end of every day, the only people they'd want to completely let their walls down around is each other? that only the two of them know what the other looks like first thing in the morning, still in their pyjamas & before coffee; or at the end of a rough day, cranky and stomping around and eventually tired and soft enough to say goodnight; or frustrated to hell over the menial tasks needed to keep a household going like doing the taxes or getting the right groceries..... I could keep going on. we might really never know whether dnp call each other husbands or partners or boyfriends or best friends or housemates, or if they're exclusive or open, whatever. but what we do know without any doubt is that they are It for each other. they are each other's no. 1 most important person. and that is most indisputably shown through the fact that they built a house together. they chose to create their own little world within the world. the place where they can be 100% who they are, 100% of the time. and they want to share that place with each other.

sometimes i am stunned when i remember that not only are katniss and peeta the youngest people going into the quarter quell but also that they are still literally KIDS. they are children facing 22 adults with not only years of friendship between them but years of mentorship to learn the best strategies of the games.

katniss is a 17yo girl who was malnourished most of her life that only had months to try to prepare to catch up to her competitors. peeta is a 17yo boy who is likely still going through puberty! facing fully grown adults.

sure some of the victors are in their early 20s like finnick or johanna, but the maturity difference between early 20s and 17 is huge.

they are kids forced to play in an adults’ game.

Poor Mammon would feel so betrayed when he found out, cause now he's not only losing to the house, he's losing to the house AND his human

Mc wins a lot of the games, but loses some intentionally to not seem like they're cheating or get caught faster

They make sure to down play their victory, and play into players' egos to ensure player return

The other dealers and higher-ups at the casino would start catching on, of course

The higher ups would probably love the chance at getting more money, so they'd probably promote Mc

They would then be making absolute bank working at the high roller tables

The high rollers are no match for Mc's charms

They'd be too good there as well (ex. Their players catch onto the insane luck)

This would get to the point where, to the casino's dismay, there was no choice but to let Mc go

Otherwise their luck would bring the house down

And if asked why Mc decided to work at a casino their response would be, "I wanted to see how long I'd be able to work at a casino with my luck, the grimm and entertainment factor were just bonuses."

i’ve said already many times that The First David Job is one of my favourite episodes for sophie in Leverage, usually in reference to the scene with her, nate & sterling on the rooftop. BUT i also love that episode for her relationship with parker! when sophie says "what would parker do?" and follows the knowledge she’s learnt from parker, it’s a very good almost-end to their season one arc.

over the course of season one, sophie’s gone from saying the same thing as eliot about parker - "there’s something wrong with you" (pilot) - to acting as a maternal figure (feeling parker’s forehead in The Two Horse Job) and mentoring her (The Juror #6 Job). she’s started to get some insight into parker’s past (The Stork Job) and has a rather unique way of seeing parker, noticing the vulnerability and loneliness under her fairly spiky exterior. however, appreciating parker’s expertise is a different thing entirely. The First David Job makes it clear that sophie’s actually been listening to parker and that she trusts parker’s expertise!! sophie takes a very literal leap of faith off the building, lol.

it’s important to me because it shows sophie doesn’t simply pity parker, doesn’t write her off. she’s learnt to appreciate that parker is indeed a very competent, analytical, knowledgeable professional in her field. she sees that same passion for the craft (the craft of crime, yes lol) in parker that she experiences herself. and this all mirrors how sophie comes to appreciate and trust parker’s ability to talk to the mark in The White Rabbit Job towards the end of their whole-series arc. gah!! this First David scene, it’s a good moment. it’s a great moment!! and notably there’s a similar thing between nate and hardison there, likely between nate and parker as well since he’s masterminding this plan.

ok thoughts about Lee Jihye and the absence of Kim Namwoon

It's smth that never really factors in the novel, which makes sense considering they have way bigger things going on and LJH is often used as a comic relief character. But something that I think about often is how isolated LJH must've felt in kimcom. Younger than the adults and dismissed by them as a child, but older than the kids and not being able to really openly talk with them. And of course she had meaningfull relationships with kimcom, she had her captain and the older women to look up to, and she was often goofing around with the children. But still when you're a teenage girl it is very important to have someone your age to confide in. And I just think about the juxtapostition of her mostly doing childish stuff with the kids and then often sneaking alcohol on her own. And with the terrible way she lost her best friend, LJHs lack of peers her age, lack of people she can confide in about just the ordinary problems of being a teenager, must have really impacted her developmentally and affected her social abillities and emotional maturity on a very real level.

And the thing is. Lee Jihye was supposed to have that. She was supposed to have Kim Namwoon as her peer to bicker with and confide in and sneak alcohol with. And the crazy thing is she doesn't even know! She doesn't even know she had someone, that the her in every other timeline managed to have close bonds with someone her equal, even after what she had done, even with everything going on. She had someone and she doesn't even know it was robbed of her.
