Summary: It takes half a year of being married to a human before Wei Wuxian learns that he can, in fact, have intercourse with his husband. Kay's comments: A story in which both human Lan Wangji and merperson Wei Wuxian are monsterfuckers for each other. I hold this story very dear, because I loved the monstrous way the merpeople are described and how they view humans as all weird and deformed for like not having webbed fingers. Pure comedy gold and good for Wangxian for still being so much into each other. Excerpt: On their wedding night, Lan Zhan knocked out at nine p.m. Humans are so odd. They need to sleep for roughly a third of the day or they stop functioning optimally. Wei Wuxian doesn’t get how their species survived that long, spending so much time unaware of their surroundings. Much better to sleep the normal way, in quick intervals throughout the day. He didn’t only notice Lan Zhan’s strategic mind and considerate habits and strong fighting skills during the war. He also noticed that Lan Zhan was… kind of cute. For a human. It was a weird thought to have. Objectively, humans are strange looking. For one thing, they aren’t iridescent anywhere on their bodies. There’s no real luster to them, but they’re not velvety-matte, either. Just kind of dull. Plus, humans have those creepy multicolored eyes. And their fingers are all… separated from one another. Flayed-looking. And they have weird little teeth.

as much as I enjoy reading discourse on why this person and that person did that in mdzs, sometimes I feel like we think too much on them and it really is just… the characters are just… human… (referencing people in the main cast) They do things whatever they think is right and wrong, because of their own histories, upbringing and personalities. It’s inevitable that they clash with others, which escalates emotions and events. Their very superficial society doesn’t help at all. With everything coming together in a shitshow, this makes all their stories so damn painful and tragic.

This doesn’t mean that I excuse characters who inflict more harm on others. I acknowledge and don't want to take away whatever any character experienced. Being human doesn't excuse shitty behaviour. But still, I feel for them that they had to resort to/end up in their respective ways to make it through their loveless world. I want to focus on the greyness of humanity behind everything that happens in the story. One of the many thematic concerns that resonate with me is how much of us as humans are black and white (as such, we debate on the characters’ place on this spectrum, because of their actions). 不说黑白, Never black or white. Even if it nears the blackened end, it still never goes pitch black.

I say 人就是人，人就是这样 — People are people, people are simply like this. We all can be kind, we all curse out. We are all insecure about something. We laugh, we cry. We write love songs as much as easily as we write hateful messages. One day our loved ones and friends are around, and the next day, they aren’t anymore. There are times in our past that we can never return to and we can do nothing but move on with our own ways of coping, for what we think will be a better life for us. For better or worse.

Amidst all the viciousness and pettiness of the jianghu, mdzs touches on our tragedies and fallacies as people just trying to make sense of an unfeeling world, with unjust consequences and impartiality. Many of the mdzs characters try, and they fail. Isn’t this how our own reality is? How many of us have the privilege of a denouement to our own stories?

We can all have our personal opinions on the characters and their actions, but do not deny them their humanity or whatever shred of it is left.

After their meeting? If another demon had tried to claim Wei Wuxian? Lan Wangji would have killed them without hesitation. He does not share. No one else may have what is his.

A shame really that there will be none like Wei Wuxian once he is gone. Other demons have questioned Lan Wangji as why he is willing to leash himself to a human without even understanding what it is that he is after. It is not his fault their minds are too small to grasp that he is running the long game. He would not be foolish enough to fall in love with a human.

at the idea of Wei Wuxian viewing Wen Qng in such a light, as a potential bride, it makes any affection he has for her sour immediately.

“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian tried again. “Lan Zhan. What is going on?” Lan Wangji does not answer, or in a way he does by claiming Wei Wuxian’s lips. He is a fool that has fallen in love with a human. He is, he is, he is. How oblivious could he have been?

“What? Are you going to take my soul now?” Wei Wuxian’s voice does not waver, he has made peace with his fate and had always known he was living on borrowed time gifted by Lan Wangji’s grace. “Your soul is already mine to do whatever I wish with, but I want more.” Puzzlement comes to Wei Wuxian’s eyes next. “My body also already belongs to you, so what more could you possibly want from me?” “Everything and eternity.”

Lan Wangji doesn’t care about what he is supposed to do, all he cares about keeping Wei Wuxian alive. Even if he forfeited the claim on Wei Wuxian’s soul until the other died of natural causes, that wouldn’t be enough. He wants Wei Wuxian, he wants Wei Wuxian so much that everything else pales in comparison.

There is a sting in his flesh where there was not where Wei Wuxian’s nails have turned into talons, and when Wei Wuxian looks up it’s with matching silver eyes. “You cannot have a wife, you can only be my wife.” “Yes, yes…” Wei Wuxian agreed although his voice is a little hoarse from the screaming. “A beautiful bride and a beautiful demon.” Lan Wangji dotes several kisses onto Wei Wuxian’s face .

actually fucking amazing that lwj's insane devotion just doesn't end with wwx. lwj is devoted to his own morals and ideals and earnest wish to do better by the world. he has his privileges and he uses them to make the world a little bit better. he goes off to solve problems that are considered too miniscule for all the other lofty cultivators. he saw the mistakes and shortcomings of his predecessors. he was literally driven near death by those shortcomings. but instead of passing on the pain to the younger generation, he chooses to be better and be a beacon of kindness and compassion and comfort for the youngins.

idk he just makes me emotional every time i think about him for more than a minute.
