Op was looking for art prompts so i asked for "cottagecore witch Mianmian" and they made this cute, cute chibi art! there was a cat!wen qing and frog!yanli too, which got me thinking about a lqy x wq x jyl modern with magic witch!au. mianmian would specialize in tarot and spell casting magic, bc she is terrible at potions. jyl and wq (her 2 familiars) don't let her make any, they do it themselves while mianmian sits on the counter and watches them. And they have a beautiful herb garden that mianmian can make enchanted perfume pouches from, and that wq uses for magical medical remedies, and that jyl uses for recipes <3

ok ik some people get annoyed at the "jiang yanli idolization" for various reasons, ranging from equal opportunity bashers to those wanting more depth to female characters, but wow do some jyl-critical takes like to totally disregard the fact she was a) a child doing her best to show love and care to her siblings in an abusive household b) was the only person to use their class privilege to make another person admit they wronged wwx pre-mxy resurrection ritual c) that this kind of idolization is actually another form of wwx's own bias and perspective. Idolization of older siblings, especially ones in caregiver roles, the safe harbor in an abusive household, is quite common.

I wonder at the reasoning of some that jyl "should've done more," like she wasn't a "good enough" sister or mother or woman or cultivator for being the only person to show her brothers what even remotely healthy familial love looks like, like she wasn't attempting to reach out to her brothers and protect them even when she didn't understand or forgive their actions, even as limited as she was as a weak cultivator and woman in the deeply classist and patriarchal society of MDZS/CQL

she definitely had issues we don't get to see from wwx's pov, but she was also awesome, so JYL rights everyone

some wangxian casefic recs, carefully selected from my extensive bookmark collection lol

build me no shrines by occultings (M) - WWX and LWJ go to investigate concerning signs in Yiling. WWX is more closely tied to this case than he knows. Post CQL-canon. Love how Wangxian work together and care for each other during the investigation.

Tongues by MimiSpearmint (T) - LWJ and WWX are ghost-hunting partners. This fic is gorgeous. Incredibly underrated. And the setting - a New Zealand Modern with Magic/Lockwood&Co. AU - is incredible! I am not kidding when I say the writing is phenomenal.

We Meet at the Thousandth Step by Admiranda, Rhynne (T) - LWJ meets and works together with rogue cultivator WWX to solve various cultivation mysteries and problems. Along the way, their relationship grows.

moonlight caught in mutton fat by Raitelzen (T) - LWJ and LXC are cursed to turn into jade. Has an intriguing plot and very well-written villain and OC detective magistrate. The plot beats very much reminded me of watching an episode of Magistrate Di lol. The frenemy in-law dynamic between LQR and WWX are also quite fun.

Down comes the night by danegen (E) - LWJ finds himself trapped in a strange village terrorized by monsters. WWX is also trapped there. Horror vibes, but Wangxian get a happy ending.

爱不释手; never let me go by yiqie (E) - LWJ and WWX lead a strange nighthunt, get cursed, then get together. Post CQL canon. Beautiful writing, great plot.

Seen and not heard by eatmyass (E) - LWJ finds and protects a man who has rescued and is now taking care of five children.

Linger in the Sun by etymologyplayground (T) - Post-Canon, Established Wangxian are cursed to be unable to see or hear each other. Possibly one of the most popular curse fics in the fandom (for good reason). If you're active enough in this fandom to find my blog, you've probably already read it.

The Things You Didn't Say by TriviasFolly (T) - During an investigation, the juniors accidentally curse Wangxian into being de-aged into their teenage selves. This is a favorite de-aging fic of mine--the Juniors get the chance to better understand their favorite seniors as they interact with their younger selves (and all the drama that comes with it).

Wearing Down Every Bone by CSH fic, VSfic (E) - WWX is cursed to be stuck in a time loop. Post CQL canon. I thought it was incredibly well done in how each loop was described. Time loops can be tricky to get the pacing right, but this one did a great job. The emotions WWX experiences and his reactions were very well described.

where they grow by queensmooting (T) - Madam Lan's children were cursed. Now, LXC is dying, and LWJ will as well. LWJ decides to break the curse. To do this, he needs WWX's help. No-Sunshot AU! And a young Wangxian road trip <3
