Next ship to sail in RWBY?

So the bees are Cannon... and so is ReNora... what's next?

personally I don't think anything drastic will develop in v10. I reckon more bees, more renora but little time for anything too serious which is a shame cause we have a lot to get through on terms of loose relationships and it would be nice to see at least all of RWBY paired if not Jaune as well. What do y'all think?

Name: Mr. Moon and Sun

Debut: Wario Land 3

Hey gamers! There was a solar eclipse yesterday! Did you get to see it? I saw the sun become a little crescent shape. How the tables have turned! If you don't know what an eclipse is, please refer to the boss battle with Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright in Kirby's Dream Land 2. Mr. Shine (the moon) can hover in the sky, and Mr. Bright (the sun) can go to one side of him, creating bright light that can cause damage if Kirby is not in the safe zone created by Mr. Shine's shade. Maybe Kirby would be safe in the light if he had extremely dark glasses made specifically for this purpose, but he doesn't, so he should not look at the sun. Don't look at the sun please!

You can look at Sun from Wario Land 3, though, as well as Mr. Moon from Wario Land 3. I hope they're not upset I spent their introductory paragraph talking about a different sun and moon duo! It is so funny the moon and sun are made into a binary, considering the real sun could effortlessly defeat the real moon if it was alive and mean. Here, though, the moon is the one with the advantage, being named Mr. Moon, while the sun is just Sun! But maybe one day his full name will be Mr. Sun Moon...? Ooh la la! Ok guys, let's get a silly one before I talk about the gameplay!

Heehee! Very nice! Mr. Moon and Sun only appear in some uncommon sky areas, where they will mess with Wario, because everything in the world is out to get him, and he probably deserves it regardless of context. You know the deal. They are Enemies. Both will chase Wario and shoot their own projectiles: Sun shoots fireballs that set him ablaze, which makes sense since the sun is a Fire Orb, but Mr. Moon shoots stars, which electrify Wario! Stars don't do that! And what's this floating rock doing with stars? Why doesn't the actual star of this pair get stars? Sun/Moon dichotomy really is so silly when you think about it to any degree!

I am glad the wiki has a gif of Mr. Moon, because I love the way he turns sideways! Don't tell Sun, but Mr. Moon is my favorite because of this. I just love how he is a mere crescent, but with a sort of aura to fill out the same space as Sun.

These sprites were ripped by ShyGuyXXL, who I must thank even MORE for making these two kiss! Earlier I explained what an eclipse is in gamer terms, but in science terms, it is when the sun and moon kiss each other, and it is specifically in a gay way every time. Sorry to Straight Sunmoon Shippers! Just the way it is!

Just Like That [buck/eddie, bobby/athena, G, ~700 words]

Bobby is feeling pretty pleased with himself as they enter the restaurant, he has to say. It was not an easy reservation to get and Athena is practically glowing, absolutely stunning in a brand new dress she bought just for the occasion that Bobby is valiantly trying his best to enjoy without jumping straight to imagining it on their bedroom floor at the end of the night.

He's... at least partially successful.

But he's definitely distracted enough that it's no surprise he misses them at first. So it's Athena who ends up pulling him slightly away from where the server had been leading them, stopping in front of a different table entirely.

"Well, look who it is," she says.

Her voice is warm, but her eyebrow is also raised slightly. And sure enough, there's Buck and Eddie, both dressed in dapper suits and looking up at them in surprise.

"Ah, Cap!" Buck says, he and Eddie both standing to greet them. "Athena. Hey! This is- that's so-"

He looks to Eddie, who smiles in way that Bobby might almost call a grimace if he didn't know better.

"It's great to see you both," Eddie says. "Date night?"

"It's our anniversary," Bobby tells him.

"Congratulations," Eddie tries to say, but Buck's voice cuts in at the same time, talking over him a bit.

"We were just- just hanging out, n-no special occasion here."

Athena's other eyebrow raises to match the first, but Bobby just chuckles slightly, unfazed. The server coughs discreetly behind them and Bobby nods his head, his hand moving to the small of his wife's back to gently steer her back towards their intended table.

"Well, you two have a nice night," he tells them, and Eddie gives him that same grimacing smile again.

"Oh, yeah, we- uh. You too!" Buck says as they turn away, both he and Eddie moving to sit back down again.

It's not until they're seated at their own table across the restaurant that Athena reaches over and hits Bobby on the shoulder. Hard.

"Ow," he says. "What was that for?"

"When were you gonna tell me about that little development?" she asks, and Bobby tilts his head slightly, still rubbing at his shoulder.

"What?" he asks again, eloquent as ever.

His wife rolls her beautiful brown eyes at him.

"Buck and Eddie," she clarifies. "You could have told me they were dating."

Bobby can't help it, he laughs a little, though it turns into a bit of a cough when he sees Athena's unimpressed glare.

"Sorry," he says, after a moment, "it's just- honey, they're not dating."

Athena's eyebrows both return to her hairline.

"You saw that just now, right?" she says.

Bobby nods, bringing his hands up in a slightly placating gesture, still chuckling a little despite himself.

"Trust me, that's just how they are," he tells her. "I have to work twenty-four hour shifts with those two, remember? I think I would know."

"Bobby, sweetheart, I love you," Athena says, somehow making the words sounds like, you are so dumb, "but this restaurant has a six-month waitlist for reservations. No one is taking a friend here for a casual hang out, and that's not even to mention Buck acting like a teenager caught with his pants down just now."

"That's just... how Buck is," Bobby tells her - determinedly not thinking about the time he actually caught Buck with his pants down.

Athena sighs deeply.

"I'm not even gonna touch that," she mutters, as the server comes over to take their drink orders.

Once the server leaves again, she takes his hand across the table.

"It's our anniversary, so I'm gonna let this go for now," she tells him. "But after your shift tomorrow, I'm gonna need us to circle back so you can tell me how right I am."

Bobby smiles.

"So just an average Wednesday then," he teases, and Athena's responding scoff is ruined by the way she grins into it, clearly pleased.

And well- Bobby should really know better by now than to bet against his wife. But given the way the rest of the evening goes for him - because God, that dress really does look even better on their bedroom floor - he'll gladly take the 'I told you so' he has coming with grace.

Karkat’s honestly a little too nice to Eridan. He’s being such a bro here, but what Eridan actually needs is to be brought down to size a little.

Granted, I think Eridan needs a bigger shock to the system than an angry tirade from Karkat. I feel like Terezi could tear him to pieces - but since it's unfair to expect her to put up with him alone, I'd put both the Scourge Sisters on this assignment. >:)

What Karkat is aptly demonstrating here is that there’s a difference between an Eridan kind of asshole and a Karkat kind of asshole.

Let's be real, here - Karkat's a dick. But he's a dick who holds no true malice, knows when he's crossed a line, and is willing to sincerely apologize for his past actions, and make amends.

Eridan possesses none of these qualities, which is why he sat alone in his house for a month while Karkat befriended the entire cast.

Oh, we enjoyed this year's WOTFI, SMG4 Team! As Mario would say, that was-a loads of fun! The animation, the art, the music, everything was really really good. There are a few plot tweaks here and there that need a bit of work, but otherwise, it was great! Props to everyone on the Team! I can't wait to see what you guys do next.

I'll answer these together:

I think that the Final Chapter was very carefully curated to ensure that all the significant shipping communities in the fandom get something, but everything can be interpreted in whichever way you want. The scenes are all pretty neutral on purpose (the purpose being is to keep the ship-centric fans hooked as they are the biggest spenders on the franchise especially once the manga/anime ends. They become the heart of future sales).

So there are bones/crumbs for almost every single shipping group that they can dress up and fill with romanticism but all of them are also just things that you can interpret as totally nothing romantic:

Eri & Kota - I feel like they are trying to appeal to the Damian x Anya kind of shippers since their handhold (cute kids - make up your own story of orphans -> childhood friends -> classmates)

Erasermic - popular ship - (perfectly angsty set-up to murder husbands getting a repeat of mourning Shirakumo's death)

Endhawks - Enji's final scene in the franchise is not with family, but with Hawks (Look at Hawks still hanging out with Enji. Rei is there if you don't like this ship.)

Spinnaraki - Spinner wrote his book! Look, wonder what's in it? (-> write your own SoL of the LoV with any ship combination that floats your boat)

Kiribaku (and Bakusquad crumbs, but Deku is also there now -> write your on fic of best bros supporting Katsuki's recovery. Any ship conbination is fine).

Izuocha (-> date? Could be. Or not. You choose).

This scene works for Togachako, Tsuchako, Iidachako, MomoIida and Izuocha shippers equally (as Ochako's mask is somewhere between Iida's and Deku's)

Todobaku confirmed chasing each other in the rankings for a decade is a beloved trope. But Deku talking fondly both about Bakugou and Todoroki can please the Bakudeku and Tododeku shippers or even the tdbkdk enthusiasts. (-> write your own fic of Deku wistfully watching his besties rise in the ranks thinking they are too busy to hang out with him while they are busting their asses off to buy him an ironman suit. Also do you think TDBK shacked up together to save on rent? Why not? And then they were ROOMMATES!!! Do they help out at Midoriya sensei's combat classes while having a crush on the cute teacher? Hell yeah! )

Bakudeku - a generous gift from Bakugou = a generous gift to the biggest shipping community. It fits all Cinderella / Forever and ever / Sugar-daddy fantasies, depending on where your romanticism lies, but it's carefully curated to fit into the platonic Dadmight + Bakugou & Deku canon storyline, it works with Bakugou's atonement / redemption and his angsty question of "what did I do to you?" in the hospital. (Did he do it as a final step to set things right for the bullying or did he do it because he can't live without Deku by his side? As a friend or a lover? Does Deku take his hand? Are they hero partners? Just the two of them or a bigger agency? - this is all up to you!)

But it's also developed by Hatsume and Melissa (if you like straight ships) and in fact a joint contribution by Class A - (So yeah - let your imagination run wild. I did. )

Ghost Tenko!!! - this is not as popular as TogaChako because of the age gap - but look!!! now they are both adults! They could be a ship if you wanted them to be?

Final panel - the big dilemma of where to place Deku?

BKDK? - maybe it would be too much and alienate other ships.

Ochako? - no, can't risk losing the bkdk crowd. (But she can look at him)

I know! TDDK - they are still a pretty popular big ship but also just sweet friends. Very inoffensive. Chill. Both Bkdks and Izuochas can breathe a sigh of relief and TDDKs can get a nice little crumb.

(Hey, why not also make this a Kacchako crumb and MomoJirou crumb and ....look it's Class A - we all love them!!!!)

Anyways, maybe I'm too cynical, but it seems to me that this ending was carefully curated by the marketing team to ensure that there is one resounding message here:

Sorry this took a while to get to. #1 is a difficult one to answer multiple times and I want to give a different answer each time.

1. Character everyone gets wrong.

I'm going to be bold here and say Charles Xavier. A necessary caveat is that he has existed since issue #1 in 1963 and has been written by so many people over the years. He's consistently remained an arrogant, imperious, manipulative, emotionally closed off dude with a Christ complex who never learns from his mistakes. As the years went on more and more secrets and sins were revealed, and his role as a general of child soldiers deconstructed. His relationships all involved a severe power imbalance and I'm not sure he knows how to live any other way. He's also a hopeless martyr, jumping in front of the gun whenever he gets the chance. At the same time, other media counterbalanced that by centering him as a moral paragon and sole hope of mutantkind - especially the movies.

On balance, I think he's a deeply flawed man and an utter bastard who has achieved some incredible things (while failing as an activist). He's both a representative and deconstruction of Great Man theory, an exploration of power and ethics, and in many ways a visionary. I'm very interested in the character moving forward and desperately hope he's allowed to change.

What he isn't is any kind of stand-in for MLK Jr, not even a little bit (nor Magneto Malcolm X.) I don't know how that started but I still see the analogy used almost daily. Even a surface reading of either real person's history debunks it, and if you go any deeper it becomes offensive. It's been broken down by people far more knowledgeable than me, which I'll link here.

6. Which ship fans are most annoying? Rogue/Gambit, easily. There's annoying people in every ship, of course, but these two seem to have a higher concentration/are louder. I'm mainly talking about the reactions to Rogue/Magneto, as if their attraction and relationship somehow detracts from Rogue/Gambit. The age difference is a non issue, and even Magneto himself is a Rogue/Gambit shipper, lol.

Movie Cherik fans too, but they're responding to different characters, ones that are flattened and woobified. I'm happy for them enjoying the characters, the personal annoyance comes from movie content flooding the X-Men tag.

10. Worst part of fanon.

Hmm, maybe the Nightcrawler/priest thing. Dude has never been an ordained priest in the comics yet very often I see him presented as or reduced to just that. Gail Simone's Uncanny with that issue #1 weirdness didn't help but it's at the point where I feel churlish correcting anyone. I'm happy for people enjoying the characters however they wish, but it can make it harder to talk about him.

Dishonourable mention to Scott being a bad father. Obviously there's some subjectivity there, but I think it's pretty clear he was the best parent to Cable that he was able to be. Despite Rachel technically not being his kid I think he did well there, and the moon family during the First Krakoan Age was so nice.

so, ironically, this concept is much more megamix-centric than any other game

basically, it assumes that all rhythm games that didn’t make the cut to megamix are ‘discontinued,’ for lack of a better term, and thus the characters that starred in those minigames are dead. yep, it’s pretty heavy.

it would take place in the world of megamix, with the different “lands” and landmarks and stuff, in which the characters whose main minigames are in megamix live their normal lives, just with the fact that their friends from minigames who didn’t make the cut are gone. it’s some real angst fodder for all you rarepair shippers out there, which is probably a lot of you knowing my mutuals (this includes me— my otp of like, all time is a rh rarepair)

i actually don’t really have an idea of how, diegetically, this happened, but i may come up with something eventually (or you all could come up with something if you’re interested enough to have read up to here)

And i loved the bumbleby scene.

I think some of y'all are thinking that this whole bee thing is just some LGBTQIA+ cash grab, follow the WB corporate line kinda thing (and it is too a small degree).

That it's just for those shippers or just for the gays.

Well no.

RWBY has always been about minorities. From day one, A title character was part of a group that's a pretty blunt analog for racism today. There's always been a plan for the bees to get together. For the whole 10 years (we've been at this a decade oh god) this scene has been planned at least as much as Monty plans things.

This isn't just fan service.

This isn't just a cash grab to boost views and greenlight V10.

This isn't just out of nowhere.

RWBY fans, just ordinary Fans, who aren't looking for some big representation in the show, are fine with this, they agree with it and they like it. I LOVED THIS SCENE, I've watched it 15 times, and the first time I screamed and jumped around the place. (15th time I cried ngl, look it was a long day) The Bees are something fans want, fans enjoy, and something that makes sense for the plot and furthers the story and the message of RWBY. I hope anyone who didn't like it, isn't just disliking it cause they think it's a copout of some kind.

And btw it's okay not to like it, not gonna lie I would have asked for a different setting and a few more lines in there, but it's a good thing its cannon, a good thing for everyone as it means hopefully (here's to you bee nation) that most bee shippers calm down, but there's room for improvement and saying that is okay, criticism is good. Audiodrama Sunday 6/9/2024

I have so much to say this week! I usually take some very quick notes as to what I want to say in these as I listen to stuff, but this week I have a ton of notes. Also, I made a Tumblr Community for audiodramas. If you want an invite, please ask me! Also, if you can figure out how to reblog posts into a community, which is supposedly a thing you can do, please tell me.

To start off, season 16 of Lost Terminal started this week. It feels great to be back in this world, this show is so cozy. I love the little programming tidbits in this show, as a nerdy programmer into conlangs and hard scifi this show feels like it was made for me specifically. It looks like the premise for this season is an entire season that takes place over 10 seconds, which is such an incredibly cool idea. I love how they are leaning into the relative time different between humans and AIs due to processing speed.

@worldsbeyondpod had so many crazy moments I have to talk about. First off *music change* "roll a stealth check for the fox" out of nowhere was terrifying. I truly felt Erika's gasp when Brennan said the words "patchy corduroy witch hat". I haven't even gotten to the biggest moment in this episode. Holy shit poor Straw. This story has so much moral nuance, I'm obsessed with @quiddie's defense of Suvi on tumblr since the last episode. Speaking of Aabria, "fuck your scene" was so perfect. Finally, Glassheart moment spotted at the end of the episode. Even though it will never happen, I will forever be a Glassheart shipper.

@worldgonewrongpod this week was very fun. It is weird that I was picturing a specific tree at a small local park I walk through all the time whenever the tree was being described? I cannot unlink that tree and this episode in my mind. The reenacted council meeting was great, I'm excited for the update to this episode at the end of the season. Also, I'm not sure I've said this yes, but the theme song for this show is perfect. I've already added it to my playlist.

@wanderersjournalpod ended on a cliffhanger this week. Are we finally going to learn Pluto's whole deal next week? I can't wait to find out.

@midstpodcast that was a hell of an opening scene. This whole episode showed such an interesting side of Weep. I want to avoid spoilers for this show, but that ending god damn. That is not what I expected. We must be getting close to the end of the season, they resolved the opening scene and the episodes are getting much longer. Looking at the lengths of the previous season, there's probably 2 more episodes.

A very short update from my dear friend over at @re-dracula this week. Renfield is so unsettling. I don't actually know anything about Renfield, so I'm learning as I go. I think he's some sort of vampire spawn?

@breakerwhiskey I caught up and what the fuck. This show keeps twisting the knife. Hey, at least Birdie is finally talking in real time again. She confirmed Whiskey's theory, which is nice, and finally gave us her backstory. Then the second reveal in a later episode, holy shit Harry. This really explains the whole dynamic between Whiskey and Harry. This was the big fight Whiskey keeps referencing.

I listened to the first episode of season 2 of Skyjacks Courier's Call. The city that it's going to be set in is really cool, and I loved the Fun Money shenanigans. Going on a road trip tomorrow and I'm going to listen to a lot more of it.

Finally, there was a new SCP: Find Us Alive this week. This was a cool episode, I really liked the art show. But the big thing was the very end of this episode. My theory was right! Sometimes, when talking into the mic, Harley was subject to the memetic effect and forgot what he was talking about. But only sometimes. They've established that it only happens if someone can hear you. This meant that every time he forgot, someone was listening! Great foreshadowing!

Because of the aforementioned road trip, I'm going to post this a few hours early. This is at least better than my usual time of "forgetting it until the last moment."
