Weird Mario 'Ello, dear readers! It's that time again! I'm here to yap at you about a real wacky critter from the Super Mario's adventures of world! This is a really fun one, and I'm sure you're gonna-

Name: Revver

Debut: Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Unfortunately, it is clear that, at some point, Revver has passed away. However, unlike most people, Revver is not a drama queen, and won't let death define its existence from here on! It even still has a tongue! You'd think that would have decomposed by now if the skin is gone, but what do I know about decomposing?

I honestly find Revver very unrealistic, since it has a wheel. THAT would have decomposed by now. Do you ever think about how there's no animal with wheels? It has to be because biological wheels don't preserve at all. Everyone knows dinosaurs were cool, so obviously they would have had wheels, which would have made them faster, and therefore cooler.

Revver bursts from the ground as a spooky skell-E-ton (the E stands for "Eek!") does, or maybe it was just looking for worms under there. Fat, red, tongue-shaped worms to hold in its mouth, perhaps...? And then it just sort of goes left and right because this is video games.

This is when the player will no doubt notice the Leash attached to its collar, and when something is visually pullable, then yes, of course a player will try to pull it! This pulling seems to quite distress the animal, which is okay because Mario is paid to be rude to various creatures he meets on his adventures. After too much pulling, it will Rev forward until it smashes into a wall, destroying any blocks in its way! There is a neat little level where you have to race one! It's good.

The name derived from "Rover", the lolling tongue, and the literal dog collar and leash all work together to tell us, "this thing is like a dog". Then you look at the names in other languages, and like 40 percent of them liken it to a mouse! I do not see it one bit! At least, not in the design, which I still think was entirely Dog.

I see the vision in the Japanese name, which is Chorochu. This involves "chorochoro", which means "darting about", and "chu", the sound a mouse makes. When these words are smushed together as they are, it brings to mind "Choro-Q", a series of pull-back toy cars! And I don't say this about nearly any car, but these are cute cars! They star in a bunch of games in which they're basically lovable scrimblos. Pretty impressive for a car! But let's check back with Revver!

hey sorry to come onto here and post this, i don't have much of a following at all so i don't expect much but i could really use some help. i was homeless for 3 years, and i'm currently living with my girlfriend and her parents. her mother is extremely abusive. she has done everything in her power to prevent my girlfriend from living independently and it is severely affecting her mental health. her mother has drained all of my savings while living here, charging me higher and higher rent and forcing me to uber to and from work because we are not in an area with any kind of public transportation. her parents have decided on a whim to sell their house and if we cannot get an apartment of our own by september she will have to live with them in an RV and will have to drop all opportunities to start a career for herself, and i will have to go back to los angeles and probably end up homeless again.

we need at least $2,000 to make this work, we already have $900 of that saved. we just need some more help. please consider sending something our way, even just a couple dollars. and please please please reblog this, thank you so much.

Hi everyone. I'm so happy to announce that, even in the current state of the housing market, I've just been able to purchase a property! And not just any property, but one fully furnished with a bathtub!

I love Sample M: Bath. Why? I don't particularly need a reason. Well, that's just how it is.

I love Sample M: Bath! Sample M: Bath is one of three sample Stage Builder stages in Brawl. I deleted the other two as a kid, but Sample M: Bath was important enough to keep. And I live here now. So that's how it is!

Sample M: Bath is a bath. Well, it's more like one of those old fashioned Japanese baths that's taller than it is wide, but a bath is a bath! A bath is a bath if it holds bathwater, or any sort of water which becomes bathwater in the bath. Does Sample M: Bath have water? No. But that's okay.

It's still a bath. You can bathe yourself here, in the immaculate vibes of Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Let the dulcet tones of Attack from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade wash over you. As it… Attacks. The impurities in your body.

So, let me give you a house tour! These are the brick walls of my bath. When you punch someone, they won't die by hitting the walls. So you can punch me all you want in here.

Up there's the ooooold deadly spike traps. We don't want anyone leaving the bath, after all. I want my guests to stay here as long as possible, until their fingers get SO wrinkly. It appeals to me.

Okay. If you really want to leave the bath, you can go on the drop block. It will, "drain", the bath, so to speak. Ha, ha. It's like a ninety foot drop you're not going to survive

Last but not least? My pet floating platform. Isn't it cute? I don't even need to take it for walks, because it gets all the exercise it needs by floating left and right all day. And it's so affectionate! If you stand on top of it, it'll push you upwards with enough force to nullify the pull of gravity! Aww!

Ok, house tours over. Get out of my house now pretty please.

I'm also getting out of my house. I don't actually live here. I live in the WME Apartment in Wet Dry World, remember? I can't believe you forgot. I can't afford rent for an apartment AND a bath! How could you let me make such an irresponsible purchase?

Super Mario HATES barnacles.

I love barnacles. So you can see how this would be an issue to me. Mario has never once said anything positive about barnacles. Has he ever said anything negative about barnacles? I don't know. I need to shield myself from any kind of barnacle negativity, my heart just couldn't take it.

Barnacles are some of my favorite creatures! I love that they're creatures at all! Something so often overlooked, used as mere set dressing, without the acknowledgement that these little fortresses are ANIMALS, crustaceans so powerfully armored they can afford to be entirely immobile as adults! You couldn't beat up a barnacle if you tried! If you did try, you'd scrape your hand on it! Yeowch!

Mario goes underwater ALL the time. It happens in like every game he's in! And most of the time, this water is ocean. Barnacles live in the ocean. All over it. They'll cover anything they can get their grubby little cement glands on, and they don't even care if that surface is an animal. You don't even need to go into the ocean to see them all over rocks and docks and saltwater crocs! Yet, in Mario's squeaky-clean, sanitized version of the world, marine surfaces are almost always so lacking...

There's no shortage of submerged rocks, and there are indeed corals encrusting on them! But no barnacles... I will have to keep searching. Someone is getting to them all before me! A secret Mario Brother with a powerful spatula is prying them all off and gobbling them down, and I'd like to give him a piece of my mind.

The earliest Mario Barnacles, as far as I can tell, are these ones, from Super Mario Galaxy 2's Starshine Galaxy! It certainly took them long enough! But there's something bittersweet here. These are merely the empty shells of barnacles past, completely hollow. No operculum to protect the little critter within. Barnacles DID live here... but what happened? Did they just die without reproducing? Reproducing with their largest-in-proportion-to-any-animal penises? They have those!

New Super Mario Bros. U, of all places, is another source of barnacles! I thought these ones might just have been some more corals (no offense to corals, you're great), but the upward-facing ones confirm to me that they are, in fact, barnacles. Still no occupants, but we're getting somewhere.

Somewhere indeed! Mario Kart 8's Dolphin Shoals introduces us to the best barnacles yet! Ones that I'm sorry to say I never noticed until really looking for them now! But they're delightful, and seem to be alive! Thank goodness. I love their color assortment! You have pink for the girls, blue/orange for the Mets fans, and green/purple for the lavender plants! That's all of the genders, I think!

And now, THE Mario barnacles, to me. These ones are from Piranha Plant Cove, as seen in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass! They also come in many colors, though this time, just solids, without extra accents. A bit disappointing. Also, they seem to be empty once again! VERY disappointing! These husks will not be able to feel all the love I hold for them. I don't know why they didn't just reuse the Dolphin Shoals ones!

If we look in the Tour version of the track, seen here with our friend, our pal, our long-lost cousin, Bulber, we see the barnacles originally DID seem to be alive! That's so sad! They died before the Booster Course Pass came out! They never got to play as Kamek in a good game!

The future does, however, look bright for Mario Barnacles! And that's good, because barnacles are able to detect light! Here we see some of the barnacles that litter the sides of Wario Shipyard in Mario Kart World. I have not played World, but I figured this had to be the sort of place they would put barnacles. And yowza! These are the best so far! So realistic, and see that in the middle of each? That's an operculum, the part of the shell that they can open to catch food, and close to prevent dessication! This shipyard may be spooky and haunted, but the barnacles are very much alive, and this means the water is also alive, with the taste of plankton!

Maybe I was too quick to judge Mario in the beginning of this post. He indeed did not feature barnacles sufficiently in the past, but he's making the effort to improve. And that's wonderful, I'm proud of him. Barnacles are so much more than a background detail, a word to throw around when you just want something to sound generically nautical. They're animals! They're just like you! Just like me! Exactly like me! I'm writing this post with my specialized feathery legs that I catch plankton with! Goodbye! *waves them at you*

Name: Magic Duck

Debut: M.Duck

Can you guess what the M in "M.Duck" stands for? No, you can't, because you already know the answer! M.Duck is a mobile roguelike shooting gallery game about a duck venturing through a mysterious tower, fighting a huge cast of strange and wacky creatures, discovering new relics and friends along the way! It is one of my favorite mobile games of all time- one of those games that flourishes as a mobile game because of how it's designed, and even better, a one-time purchase with no ads or microtransactions- and it absolutely deserves more attention than it gets!

Most of this post will be about the enemies, but I would not want to leave Magic Duck himself out of the fun. Like every human in the universe, when I look at a duck, I smile. What a good animal "duck" is. This duck in particular is MAGIC, and not because he uses a wand! The magic is in the wand. The magic is that this duck can use the wand in the first place, because canonically the most magical thing about him is the ability to use his wings like hands. What does this imply about any latent magic dwelling within Moorhuhn...?

First on my list, and one of the earliest encounters, is Wormis! The plural is said to be "Wormie". Silly goose. I mean silly duck. I mean silly worm! There is not much to say about it, but it is a funny sluggy thing with a bobbly-bop, which it uses to shoot magic projectiles. Real slugs do this, but you have never seen it, because they like you!

This thing here is the Sea Shooter! Not to be confused with the monstrosity they recently added to Plants vs. Zombies 2. I like it because it reminds me of a cucumber. A sea cucumber! They use bows-and-arrows for their Shootering, pulling the bow with a little nub hand that appears. When defeated, their body disappears in a strange pattern, leaving just their face to blip away. I don't think it means anything, but it looks cool!

Now this here is not actually an enemy, but an item! This is the Mana Bug, which is obviously wonderful for being a cute bug, but it gets better. It is described as a PILLBUG! #conglobationnation This bug eats one of your ammo slots, but increases both reload speed and magic recharge rate, because it's a magic bug! They get to eat some magic, and the magician gets to use more spells. If a pill bug wanted to travel alongside me, though, I would not need any extra motivation! I love phoresy! Look up phoresy!

Portal Fish is one of my favorite creatures in the game, because it is so dang cool! A rectangular "fish" with eight eyes, or perhaps snake-like heat pits! It swims through the air, and uses its unique teleportation ability to enter a portal, emerge from one at the bottom of the screen, and try to take a bite out of a duck (an important duck). It's just such a cool way to contextualize a specific hitbox appearing!

Finally, my favorite creature in the game! This is Agern. The game enthusiastically informs us that its name is Acorn in another language, and it is! It is Danish, which I just learned by looking it up. Agerns appear as simple acorns that cannot be hurt, summoning little round Agern Pods as sentinels to attack. Once it thinks the coast is clear, Agern reveals its true freak body! I mean freak affectionately, as I always do, and it should not be ashamed of its body. I love looking at this! Such angles, and angular lumps, and even a round lump, and many lesser faces. It's so cool! And absolutely not something I would expect to see out of an acorn! I'd sooner expect a loungin' larva!

I would discuss some more creatures, but I don't want to spoil it! There are many more great critters in here that I hope you'll visit yourself!
