There were a number of characters who praised shoto for facing toya (without bringing up his dad) but the only one who saw his tears and comforted him was iida (in that moment at least)

Yeah, although I've always felt that 353 did not have the same effect as the characters getting praised in the epilogue. It was obvious that it was in a way a false sense of relief from the heroes, and obviously it fits with Shouto's theme of reassurance, and also Class A supporting him and at least some of them acknowledging the tough situation he was in, it was also contrasted Shouto's own feelings of dying on the inside.

Also, obviously Shouto hears none of those reactions - so it's not at all similar to how Bakugou and Deku are praised in 424.

And my point was that Shouto got neither thanks nor praise comparable to the 424 scene from any of the people he saved.
