Its Batman and Superman who are both Very new to this whole thing and Clark trying to prove himself trustworthy to this Guy who has made it very clear that he doesn't trust him. It starts slow, with Clark asking when he can step in on a fight (its professional courtesy). Its Clark asking for permission to use his powers when hes in Gotham ("Not that you can't get there yourself! But I'm just saying it might be faster if I-"). And then it just. Continues. Clark starts asking for permission on other things. Pairing up. Missions.

Clark always tried to look smaller around him, a sense of gentleness when his presence was so blinding. But theres a look in Clark's eyes whenever he asks for Batman's opinion first. And then slowly it becomes nothing but a look. A glance at Bruce that is asking to be useful. To have Bruce let him do what he can do best. Bruce did not put a collar on Clark and tell him to heel. Superman handed Batman a leash and waited expectantly for the next order.

Saw the Epilogue for Liar Satsuki just now and yeah no, I was coping when I thought it'd make things better. I still can't believe Akira and Satsuki didn't end up together. After EVERYTHING these two have been through together. Komachi is not even slightly as relevant for most of the manga, and you can say what you want about both their abilities tying them together thematically and what not, but frankly the entire manga set it up such that Akira x Satsuki was the obvious choice.

My niece put on Wish for movie time last night, and I left the experience upset that the movie tried to make me hate the king when I found it perfectly reasonable for him to be upset at the main character for, upon him hiring her and giving her access to something few people are allowed, began asking fairly large favors of him. I understood that her actions were selfless in that she was trying to make someone else happy, but I felt there could have been a more interesting avenue to explore if the writing realized her actions didn't exist in a vacuum, and how from her perspective she's selfless, but it's probably perceived as selfish from the king's perspective (also, I feel like it could have been worth having him teach her to rein it in a little while she helps him open his heart again while exploring the limits of the Wish granting magic).

Also, why was his villain song just Disneyfied Faith by George Michael? Why does he have George Michael's signature goatee and hairstyle?

I think a lot of what's currently informing my fellow white people curdling like milk and shitting their pants when asked to interrogate their relationship with rap is the way many people (especially well-meaning white people) still can't help but think of racism as something that you get accused of rather than something that influences the entire world in pernicious ways.

like, I think a lot of people currently posting the most cringe takes about rap right now would very much agree that Racism Is Bad and probably even acknowledge that rap has been and is still widely maligned and devalues for racist reasons.

but that last step, acknowledging that your personal tastes and interests are also influenced by systemic racism, is where a LOT of people stumble. it's very easy to assume that because you consider yourself against racism, then your tastes and interests cannot possibly be at all informed by racist. if you're a white American, that's simply extremely unlikely to be true.

speaking from personal experience, I had to Work to decenter whiteness in my media tastes. when I was like 19 I listened to a podcast where a white Jewish man talked about keeping a spreadsheet of the books he read to make sure he was reading a roughly equal number of men and women, and I started doing the same thing to track how many authors of color I was reading. at the time I took pride in my belief that I was reading diversely, but when the year ended I was shocked to discover that people of color had written barely a quarter of the books I'd read. I had been giving myself way too much credit while still unintentionally prioritizing white authors, because white authors were the ones I knew best. so I started making an extremely conscious effort to seek out books by authors of color, both fiction and nonfiction, that sounded like my kind of shit.

music was extremely similar. I grew up a little white girl in a very white city in a very white state; nobody was offering me an education in rap or r&b or soul or hip hop. as an young adult there were definitely some Black artists I liked, like Janelle Monáe, but I had to take the initiative of seeking out more artists to find out who I fuck with. you're not going to like everybody, which is fine, but are you even giving anyone a chance? are you even looking?

racism has roots everywhere, bro. it's not enough to just acknowledge it, you have to actively get digging.

Stop turning everything into how you have the morally superior take. A guy DIED in a TERRIBLE way. Now is not the fucking time to go "erm acshtually he did xyz" or disclaimer everything with how you Don't Support Him. You don't need to say that about someone who just died in a violent and painful way. You don't need to turn someone's death into that. The guy has friends and family who can see that shit, be quiet if you can't keep that to yourself.

Besides, he was only 31. If you think someone is finished cooking at 31 you have a big storm coming. You don't know the kind of person he would've become if he had the chance to actually live his life instead of just the beginning of it.

Don't turn someone's DEATH into how your opinion of him is the most morally pure one on the internet. He wasn't a war criminal, he was a boy band member who got internationally mega-famous when he could barely even legally drink
