#2012 donnie

I have a small fanfic I want to write thats post-tmnt 2012 where Raph, Donnie, and Mikey get a bit caught up with their new relationships, projects, and friend groups for a little bit.

Realizing how much time they’ve spent away from home, they feel just a tad guilty for not keeping in contact with each other (but especially for not checking on Leo).

So one day they all decide to drop in to surprise the eldest, just to find him in the middle of teaching several 5th grade girls how to break the arm of a full grown man.

A COMIC?! yes! But also! I’m an exhausted college student with a job so updates…. once every two weeks at best, as well as inconsistent details, poor writing, and perhaps even instances of sleep deprived nonsense.

That being said, I’m soooooooo excited to draw this so I’m going to keep it going as long as my cringe driven heart lets me!

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS

When Donnie touches the ground, he flinches.

His entire body tries to curl inward at the pain and he gives a tiny, barely audible gasp. Leo’s hand shoots up immediately.

He seems to hesitate, moving slowly and oh-so gently resting it on Donnie. And Donnie’s entire body relaxes.

His shoulders stiffen as his body acknowledges sudden contact against his chest, probably because that too is causing some pain.

AND YET: His mouth falls shut. The pain on his face smooths out. His head falls forward, his shoulders rise, all angling towards Leo.

And Leo’s eyes are what tells the entire story. They (expectantly) never leave him at any point and there’s not much expression to be noted outside of a mixture of sad/guilt/worried.

Then he lays his hand on Donnie.

And his little brother leans into it. He relaxes at the touch.

AND LEO’S ENTIRE FACE FALLS.

Out of everything happening right now, THAT’S what makes him look like he’s hurting. THAT’S what stops the leader from worrying and introduces the big brother who’s beyond disappointed in himself.

That tiny bit of subconscious comfort that Donnie reveals while leaning into the touch of the person who helped hurt him.

THAT is going to be what haunts him from this moment on.

One of the (many) things I love most is when the main conflict of the episode has nothing to do with the B team and they're just existing together. They're so openly supportive of eachother! Little things: Dee clapping when Mikey made that jump; Mikey regularly saying how awesome Dee's inventions are; eyerolling when the older two are fighting.

Not to mention how Mikey coined the phrase "Like a turtle do!" and then Donnie using it in later episodes when no one else did.

While Leo and Raph are out there being the perfect duo in the most contentious way possible, Donnie and Mikey are just rocking being quiet besties in the background. And the level of deviousness they come up with together is frankly terrifying.

The dynamic we never got: Softserve Duo!

Ice Cream Kitty is an absolute QUEEN by the way.

She is all good things. She is the predominant female character in cinema. I want to write a ten page discertation on why she makes every scene she enters into gold! But I won't.

Ice Cream Kitty speaks for herself, and if a person can't see it, who am I to cure the blind?
