Script summaries (option 1)

Location: England

MC works for the ‘’lab’’ (I still need a name for the corporation which is trying to make the first man-made angel or hybrid between an angel, a demon, and a human) - only that MC doesn’t know about that kind of projects of this lab, they thought they are just collecting data about angels & demons health and how their bodies function, how different types of these creatures developed. Testing their blood cells, reaction to different elements, and similar lab work.

However, one day accident happens in the lab. MC wasn’t in the room of the accident, but they were in the room next to it, and the "explosion" caused some injuries. Nothing major, no lost limbs, only some stitches were needed. While their colleague right next to them got wiped off of existence only leaving pools and splashes of blood. This whole experience lead MC to decide they want to get out of this lab job since it appears to be more dangerous than they anticipated. But nothing is that simple. What MC doesn’t know is that because this lab has multiple projects, and their main work (the manmade angel project) - is illegal and secret - they don’t have any ‘’formal’’ employees. It’s too dangerous to just simply let anyone go with the information they gained from the labs and the experiments...

The start

MC physically has almost healed completely - barely any visible scars. Unfortunately, MC is traumatized mentally from the accident, they lost a colleague and a good friend. And god knows how many died… and they could have died too.

Not to mention, this required isolation is making them paranoid about this whole situation. The news never reported anything about the accident and MC was forbidden to go to the public hospital, they got treated at the lab's small hospital section and recovered at the hotel to which they got sent by the lab. Now MC is finally at their home, but the lab instructed not to leave the city and not to tell anyone about the accident. MC chooses not to risk it and complies. The lab also informed MC that they are sending their lawyer to MC’s house to discuss further legal actions and compensation for the damage. MC hasn’t told them about leaving the job - and will wait for the right moment to mention that ‘little’ detail. MC is trying to have as normal as possible morning that day, cleaning their house, checking if they have enough tea, coffee, milk and etc for the arriving guest - after all that has happened, MC still tries to be hospitable.

FFVII OG and FFVII Remake JP-EN Scripts Projects

So I just bestows upon myself a (actually, two) massive project(s) of compiling a Japanese-English script for FFVII Remake (and at the same time, FFVII OG).

Why? Because I just stumble upon an FFVII OG Japanese-English Anki deck, and as much as I appreciate the work, I find the deck too messy to my liking. So I think it's actually easier to compile everything in an spread sheet file and then later export it to Anki.

And while I'm at it, why don't I do one for FFVII Remake...

It's actually inefficient to work on 2 massive projects at the same time (especially with FFVII Remake where we don't have a fully available Japanese script). But yeah, I just feel like doing it.

Not sure when, or if I will ever complete this. Neither English nor Japanese is my mother tongue, and my Japanese is pretty broken... FFVII OG scripts seem more plausible, but I'm like "Challenge accepted!" with FFVII Remake scripts because no one has really done it. For FFVII OG, there's a messy Google Sheet floating on the internet with all the text from the game script, so it's more a formatting task than anything.

Anyway.

For both projects, I use English scripts from the finalfantasy.fandom.com and then fill in the Japanese text from whatever sources I can find. For FFVII OG, it's the aforementioned Google Spread Sheet. For FFVII Remake, it's a combination of a Japanese site with bits of scripts, Youtube playthrough videos, and my own playthrough.

The data is compiled with the intention of making it easy to extract/export later (for Anki, for example) so I keep the in-cell format bare and no cell-merging. As a result, some sections might be a bit hard to follow (hence the addition of Event notes).

I personally don't like doing Romaji, but it's impossible to do furigana in spreadsheet. Anki can do furigana but the raw data looks messy so I decide to opt for Romaji in the end.

Along the line, I'll be sharing what I found interesting, especially with FFVII Remake scripts where there are a lot of trivial dialogues to be missed.

PS: I did a lot of translation and writing projects in English back when I was a teenager and my English improves drastically over the years. So hopefully after this, my Japanese will get drastically better. The way I am now, I read slow, can't speak, can't pronounce and can barely listen, can barely write (because I can't spell and my grammar is weak), despite having a decent understanding of the language.

Your dad has always said you swim as if your were born to be in the water; the rest of your family has always said that he is the whole reason you turned out like that.

So, it's not really a surprise when you had used all the money you got for your 7th birthday to buy a surfboard. And even less of a surprise when you started joining small surf competitions by the time you were 10, later followed by bigger competitions.

It seems you are the only one surprised when it turns out you're able to compete in the World Surfer's League's Ultimate Tournament Tour*.

Thrown into a mix of fellow surfing prodigies, rookies, and pros, do you really have what it takes to win?

Arlo Song [male, he/him], your best friend’s twin brother.

Reliable and patient, Arlo is the poster child for the 'boy next door' trope. Arlo, despite living in Hawai'i since he was 13, has never been one for beaches or sports, choosing to spend his day in an art studio rather than on the beach, unlike most of the people he knows, including his twin sister; Aria. He's always kept you at arms length for reasons you aren't quite sure about.

Hilo Kalua Mahoe [nonbinary, they/them], your childhood best friend.

Apathetic and reserved, Hilo has been by your side since before you can remember (though your family has many pictures to prove this). Hilo is your exceptionally talented unofficial-official photographer, has been for years, and is accompanying you on the UTT. Ever since you were kids you’ve been hearing comments that Hilo is prickly or mean, but they’re never like that with you.

Elijah/Elaine Lee Ferguson [gender selectable], your rockstar ex.

Impulsive and (seemingly) confident E, more commonly known as ‘Lee Rex’ on stage and just Lee to their friends, is exactly what one would expect out of a rockstar. Your meeting with Lee was purely by coincidence, during their US tour, a show that a couple of your friends dragged you to— though if you knew that know you probably wouldn’t have agreed to go. Whatever Lee was like as your partner is long gone now; evident by all the photos they’ve posted making out with someone on their Instagram story.

Noemia/Nikita Azevedo [gender selectable], your wildcard competitor.

Charismatic and arrogant, N has already made a name for themselves in the surfing community. After placing in the final five in the last UTT, they’ve been chosen as a wildcard this time around. Really, you don’t know all that much about N, considering you’ve never even met them, but from your limited research (e.g: watching interviews on YouTube) you can tell they’re.. a bit of a flirt. It’s hard to tell if a facade or not; but you don’t really want to find out, either.
