RxA: Tailoring
I've had this in my drafts forever. Have something short and pointless.
Renoir x Aline: Tailoring
“Not that one,” Aline spoke with a voice that was both flat and authoritative. The woman rose from the couch, mouth pursed to a thin line, gray-blue eyes narrowed. “The cut doesn’t flatter him.”
“Madame Dessendre, it…”
Renoir shrugged out of the coat, fighting to keep his face impassive. “I respect your expertise, Monsieur, but my wife has made her decision.”
The tailor sighed, taking the garment from him. “Does the lady have something in mind?”
She must. This particular venture was Aline’s idea, a reaction to his serviceable—though perhaps unremarkable—wardrobe. You have your family’s formal wear and riding gear, Renoir. You do yourself a disservice, she’d grumbled, eyeing his closet with an air of distaste. When he’d pointed out that she had oversimplified the issue, and that his clothes were practical, she’d waved him off.
Renoir craned his head to watch her approach. Aline paced a slow circle, brow furrowing as she took in his figure. Part of him thought to call her ridiculous—both knew she’d long since memorized his body. Not a precisely gentlemanly thing to admit in mixed company. Something about the way she glanced up at him said she’d managed to follow the line of his thoughts regardless. She brought a hand up to cover her smile.
Aline cleared her throat. “No sack coats—they’re for shorter, larger men.” The tailor opened his mouth to protest this, thought better of it, and lapsed back into silence. His wife took a step closer, reaching out to curve her hands over his waist. “If you’d be so kind, monsieur, bring us a selection of morning coats? In blue and black, thank you.” When he raised a brow at his wife, she shrugged. “You have a handsome figure, Renoir. Your tailoring should reflect that.”
Aline eyed his shirt. She moved to a rack of ties, selecting half a dozen with perfect surety—two midnight dark, one a deep gold, another to match the color of his eyes, one to match hers. She held them out to him. “Choose.”
“My darling, I can imagine nothing I’d rather do less.”
“Cheeky.” Aline slipped the material beneath his collar, tying it before he could protest. He was unsurprised to see she’d chosen the gold. It’s regal, Renoir—it suits you. Checking himself in the mirror, he supposed it did. He looked warmer. Aline patted his chest, turning to collect a waistcoat from the nearby closet.
“Aline, I do believe you’ve made me your doll.”
She hummed, helping him into the matching waistcoat. “You sell yourself short: you’re my work of art.” She shrugged in concession. "And my doll."
That was more flattering, admittedly.
At a push, he would summarize her stylistic choices as fitted. Everything silhouetted or complemented the lines of his figure. Aline prowled around him, correcting the hang of different fabrics, sending back—in his opinion—perfectly reasonable options for the most banal reasons. The color was not to her liking—easily ascribed to her artist’s eye and dedication to beauty.
Aline selected another three jackets for him, breeches for hunting, and fitted trousers. They were uniformly elegant. The tailor remained perfectly silent, happy to let Madame Dessendre add last-minute purchases to their order.
He would happily admit that there was something gratifying about being the focus of her work. His wife helped him into the morning coat, a deep blue to complement the gold. It fit more elegantly at the waist, highlighting his broader shoulders and chest. Aline tipped her head to the side, observing him. He turned for her final inspection, charmed by the way her face lit up.
She smoothed his hair away from his face, snickering when the strands fell resolutely back into place. “There—look at you. A rakkish prince.”
Renoir kissed the back of her knuckles. “You are, as ever, an artist.

Thank you for putting this together... I love how the stuff you caught was different than what I noticed... I'm so happy that you got a little more details about my faves that I missed
spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers
The one where Esquie talks about the Paintress is so interesting - just that little extra tidbit of Paintress information is so enlightening. You can extrapolate a lot of details about her mindstate at the time just from this. She didn't want to see Esquie or François even "before all the new things." It kind of breaks my heart to think that François even moved out of his cave to try to talk to her...?
Esquie: She’s going to be mad. Verso: Who? Esquie: The Paintress. She told me to stay away.      Verso: What? You never told me that. When was this?      Esquie: A long time ago. Before all the new things.      Esquie: François and I were just trying to say hello! But she wouldn’t let us. Luckily you found us instead. Verso: We’re not going to be saying hello. You understand that right?      Esquie: I do.
And I really love that there was a beat where Maelle talked to Verso about Renoir after the Monolith fight... I want to go back through and see if these scenes are in the game. I've never seen someone pause at that point in the game and go back to camp, so this might be in the game.
It's sad to me that there doesn't seem to be any deleted lines for Gustave or Clea... It's interesting to me that a lot of these deleted lines are lines that might have overly explained the internal mindstates of the characters when the audience doesn't need it to be so definitely explained. like
"    00_AftermathVersoMaelle_Display: Verso approaches Maelle. He does not know what she is thinking."
you don't need lines explaining this kind of thing when it's clear in the visuals. Handholding is one of the easiest writing pitfalls tbh, even Clair Obscur had to go back through and delete them.
Clair Obscur CUT content
I read the ENTIRE @corseque's text file of coe33 script and found some interesting missing lines. I will not mention the ones that was already posted - Julie's lines, Renoir's and Simon's additional content...
here is the original post https://www.tumblr.com/corseque/791007336715206656/so-i-extracted-all-the-text-in-clair-obscur-and?source=share)
Spoilers to Clair Obscur down below
First of all - this is after the wine scene. "Display" means text should be shown on screen via dialogue interface (sometimes like "back at camp" style
ST_CS_2_15_2_CampAfterSecondAxon: {        48_VersoRenoir: In the shadow of the Monolith. In the shadow of the Monolith.     49_Display: A Life to Dream     50_Display: When the choice comes.
Then, in the Alicia's letter every line is marked as "NEW" I think bc this segment was rewritten. That makes me think about "the third ending" like... maybe it should be implied more explicitely that there could be another way but there isn't. I'm glad that they decided to do what they did instead. Anyway it's very interesting to me to know how it was earlier.
ST_CS_2_19_2_TheFinalGommage: {     new01_MirrorAlicia: Brother,     new02_MirrorAlicia: I tire of the conflicts and deceptions that plague our family and theirs.     new03_MirrorAlicia: So I entrust you with this letter. Whether you give it to her is up to you...
Also important one: there was supposed to be the whole bunch of camp banters before the Paintress fight (or maybe it IS in the game, someone pls tell me, I didn't try to go to camp from the monolith peak even once and never saw it on YT either). It's a pity that these were cut out, they are very telling.
01_CampMiEsquie_Esquie: She’s going to be mad.     02_CampMiEsquie_Verso: Who?     03_CampMiEsquie_Esquie: The Paintress. She told me to stay away.     04_CampMiEsquie_Verso: What? You never told me that. When was this?     05_CampMiEsquie_Esquie: A long time ago. Before all the new things.     06_CampMiEsquie_Esquie: François and I were just trying to say hello! But she wouldn’t let us. Luckily you found us instead.     07_CampMiEsquie_Verso: We’re not going to be saying hello. You understand that right?     08_CampMiEsquie_Esquie: I do.     01_CampMiLune_Lune: What are we going to find when we walk through that door?     02_CampMiLune_Verso: I honestly don’t know. But you probably don’t believe me.     03_CampMiLune_Lune: Actually, I do.     01_CampMiMaelle_Verso: How do you feel? After…     02_CampMiMaelle_Maelle: After erasing your father? How do YOU feel?     03_CampMiMaelle_Verso: Conflicted.     04_CampMiMaelle_Maelle: Yeah.     05_CampMiMaelle_Verso: But relieved.     01_CampMiMonoco_Monoco: You can still turn back.     02_CampMiMonoco_Verso: What are you talking about? Why would I?     03_CampMiMonoco_Monoco: You said the Expeditioners have grown on me. Well I think they’ve grown on you too. In fact, I’d say you’re quite attached to them.     04_CampMiMonoco_Verso: I’m seeing this through.     01_CampMiSciel_Sciel: Where do you put our chances now?     02_CampMiSciel_Verso: Of killing the Paintress?     03_CampMiSciel_Sciel: And making it home in one piece.     04_CampMiSciel_Verso: I’m curious what you think.     05_CampMiSciel_Sciel: To quote Lune. “Not zero.”
Below not so important but also interesting things:
When the team was back at Lumiere, the residents were supposed to welcome them
ST_BK_BackToLumiere: {     01_Bastien_Bastien: They’re back??     01_Colette_Colette: The numbers are gone!     01_Florian_Florian: We’re saved. It’s over.     01_Lucie_Lucie: Thank you, thank you. Ohhh, thank you.     01_Lumierans_Lum1: 33! 33! 33! 33!     01_Maxime_Maxime: I can’t– I can’t believe it.     01_Victor_Victor: They destroyed her! The Paintress is DEAD!
After the end of act 1 there were dialogues between Verso and everyone, not only Lune
06_CampScLune_Verso: I’m not going to get much sleep tonight, am I?     07_CampScLune_Lune: Mhm.     01_CampScMaelle_Maelle: …     02_CampScMaelle_Verso: Hey.     03_CampScMaelle_Maelle: …     04_CampScMaelle_Verso: Nevermind. Good night.     01_CampScSciel_Verso: You don’t trust me.     02_CampScSciel_Sciel: Well, I don’t actively distrust you, either.     03_CampScSciel_Verso: How open-minded of you.     04_CampScSciel_Sciel: A mysterious stranger? Shows up with elusive answers?     05_CampScSciel_Sciel: You saved Maelle. That counts for quite a lot.     06_CampScSciel_Verso: You’re an interesting group of Expeditioners.
Dialogue after the gradient attack tutorial
01_PostGradAttack_Lune: This is fantastic, Monoco, thank you.     02_PostGradAttack_Lune: Verso, why didn’t you show us earlier?     03_PostGradAttack_Verso: Hey, I taught you the Gradient Counter already. I’m not a certified combat instructor.     04_PostGradAttack_Monoco: He’s just lazy. Gradient Attacks require too much energy for him.
Lines for Esquie about underwater swimmimg (maybe there were some explorable areas even during the development idk)
ST_BK_WorldMap: { 01_Underwater_Esquie: Here we dive! 02_Underwater_Esquie: Everybody in my mouth! 03_Underwater_Esquie: Going in!
This piece is from before Duelliste fight, Verso was supposed to talk to Maelle more
ST_CS_2_9_6_BattleDuelliste: {     01_Verso: It’s not easy for them either.     02_Verso: They’re more affected by his death than you think.     02A_Verso: Grief… grief takes different forms.     03_Verso: We all know what it’s like to lose family.
We could have the opportunity not only to write but also read Gustave's journal?
ST_D_Camp: {   ST_D_Camp_Campfire_Option_05: Write in the journal of Gustave's apprentices.     ST_D_Camp_Campfire_Option_06: Read Gustave's journal.
Simon could've talk after the fight
  ST_CS_SC_01_2_SimonOutro: {     01_Simon: Thank you.
There was one more line in Verso's magic scene(I wonder what is going on there hehehehe)))
ST_CS_SC_03_1_MagicVerso: {     36_Monoco: Verso, aren’t you getting too attached?     37_Lune: No, no no, no please, Verso, please!
The whole additional piece of Lune and Sciel dialogue
 ST_CS_SC_04_1_LuneAndSciel: {     38_Sciel: Making friends is thirsty work.     39_Sciel: You see that?     40_Lune: Yeah!     41_Sciel: It’s cassiopeia!     42_Lune: Ooh…     43_Sciel: Yeah!     44_Lune: Looks like a W.     45_Sciel: And Mars. Oh, look at that, it’s Venus!     46_Lune: Ah, yes.     47_Sciel: One of my favourites.     48_Lune: Really?     49_Sciel: Yeah…     50_Lune: Why?     51_Sciel: Don’t know…
Some missing Verso's lines
ST_CS_2_9_9_OnwardToMonocosStation: {     22_Lune: And then we’ll take the Paintress’ heart.     23_Verso: Hey.     23A_Verso: Don’t worry. I’ll watch your back. (😍) ST_CS_3_20_3_ThePlanToCounterattack: {  18_Lune: And you. You knew this whole time.     19_Verso: Hey, hey–     20_Lune: You fucking coward. You betrayed us.
In this scene with Maelle trying to bring back girls there are 2 lines that I think could be some flashbacks helping Maelle to remember
08_Verso: They’re the essence of your mother. And… your brother.     09_Sciel: See… so you can understand…     10_Lune: …use everything…     11_Lune: What-     12_Sciel: [coughs, struggles to breath]     13_Lune: How did we–
Later in this scene the banters between Verso and team should be started and finished with additional text via dialogue UI like the relationships scenes (additional lines just for context)
00_AftermathMonoco_Display: Verso approaches Monoco, expecting a lecture about what he has done.     ...07_AftermathMonoco_Monoco: Quite a steep hill to climb.     08_AftermathMonoco_Display: Verso joins the others. His relationship with Monoco was not affected by his actions.     ...06_AftermathVersoEsquie_Esquie: But I can never be mad at you.     07_AftermathVersoEsquie_Display: Verso is relieved by Esquie’s reaction.     00_AftermathVersoLune_Display: Verso carefully approaches Lune, who looks furious.     ...10_AftermathVersoLune_Lune: I guess we’ll see…     11_AftermathVersoLune_Display: Verso walks away slowly, as he hears Lune sighing behind him.     12_AftermathVersoLune_Display: Their discussion has somewhat restored Lune’s trust in Verso. She understands him, even though she disagrees with him.     00_AftermathVersoMaelle_Display: Verso approaches Maelle. He does not know what she is thinking.     ...12_AftermathVersoMaelle_Verso: Our whole world carries the burden of your family’s grief.     13_AftermathVersoMaelle_Display: Maelle and Verso’s relationship has changed, but their trust in each other has not been broken.     00_AftermathVersoSciel_Display: Verso approaches Sciel, expecting her to be mad at him.     ...16_AftermathVersoSciel_Verso: You got it.     17_AftermathVersoSciel_Display: Much to Verso’s surprise, his relationship with Sciel has not been affected by what he did.
The merchant in Sinister Cave was alive and interactive ( THE MOOD here)
ST_D_SinisterCave_LoneMerchant_01: Oh? So you reached me.     02: I saw you running around. I thought you'd give up and leave.     03: Do you live here?     04: I do.     05: I do not enjoy the company of others.     06: Does that include us?     07: Absolutely. Please see yourself out.     08: Don't you have things to sell?     09: Oh true, I forgot I'm a merchant.     10: But trading would mean interacting with you and I can't have that.     11: Just take that and leave.     12: It belonged to another expedition.      13: Thanks.     14: You're welcome. Now, please don't talk to me ever again.     15: What did I say? Don't talk to me ever again.
Some strange "hole in the canvas"-fast-travelling thing from act3 Lumiere
ST_D_Lumiere_Teleport_Gardens_01: This hole can be infused with Chroma.     02: You pour Chroma into it.     03: This will allow you to travel faster between here and the harbour.     04: Do you wish to return to the harbour?     05: We are back at the harbour.     01: Do you wish to travel to the gardens?     02: We are back at the gardens.     03: This looks like a hole in the Canvas.     04: If you find what it's connected to, you will be able to travel faster.
There are also a bunch of battle lines that I never heard in the game but it could my personal issue bc i'm always overpowered for every fight.
Thank you for reading. I hope I didn't miss anything important.

Remembered you asked If you should play Dawntrail yet and after patch yesterday i gotta say, give it until 7.4 but things are finally looking promising when it comes to what interests you on the story!
I read this immediately after waking up, so imagine me reading this very bleary-eyed. Really? For real? Is Ishikawa writing it?
Tumblr media
I wonder about 7.4, too... like historically it's been the ".5" patches that are the real wrap-up endings....?

clair obscur
I like that part of Clair Obscur where Verso is like "I don't think I'm my dad's favorite, I think that he liked my sisters better" and then you talk to his dad's memories and his dad's like "I wish I had died for Verso" and his dad is visibly scarred with love for him and Alicia is like "Papa loved Verso so much, he was his special favorite because he made him laugh"
yeah your dad didn't like you at all

So... I went one step further and just uploaded the slightly more organized text file of all the English dialogue in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 here on google drive that I was reading through. So now you guys should go through it and tell me if there's something deleted that another character says that I missed.
(But know that if you have the PC copy of Clair Obscur, you can REALLY EASILY, and within like 5 minutes of effort, open the files that are already on your computer to verify my work, and you don't have to take my word for it. (I just realize that some people might not want to go to that trouble.))
DELETED DIALOGUE IN THE FILES OF CLAIR OBSCUR: EXPEDITION 33
I was going to make a video about this, but I'm too scattered right now, so I'm posting it here in the meantime.
So I extracted all the text in Clair Obscur, and I'm surprised that there seems to be only about 73,000 words of dialogue in the whole game. This does make sense because the writing philosophy definitely erred on the side of subtlety and communicating through physical acting rather than through words, but it was still a little shocking to see the number of words. For comparison, the number of words of dialogue in Dragon Age: Inquisition is ~708,500 words. For additional reference, the average full-length novel is 80-100k words.
I am also surprised to find quite a few deleted scenes and deleted snippets of dialogue that didn't make it into the game.
(((This dialogue and these files can be very easily viewed and verified by anyone who has a PC version of Clair Obscur by using a piece of freeware software called "FModel" which is an Unreal Engine Archive Explorer. Installation for FModel specifically for Clair Obscur can be extremely easily done by following the first part of this tutorial video.
The entire text dialogue for Clair Obscur is located within Sandfall > content > localization > game. It's completely human-readable and not obfuscated in any way. The same is true for all the localization languages like French, etc. It's very nice.))) spoilers for some of the deleted stuff I've found -

an incredibly poignant and convincing conversation between Maelle and Renoir during their final fight
deleted dialogue from the Faceless Boy at the Opera in Lumiere about how exhausted he felt about Painting

Apparently, there were deleted lines spoken by the Faceless Boy at the Opera House
FacelessBoy_Opera: Is this… Is this it… FacelessBoy_Opera: Is it… finally it… FacelessBoy_Opera: Will you… put an end to everything? FacelessBoy_Opera: I'm glad… Thank you… FacelessBoy_Opera: Oh I… I understand… I think that it probably gave you a yes/no option, and the yes corresponds with "I'm glad" and the no corresponds to "I... Additional lines that Mirror Renoir says during the Manor fight where he accuses Verso of lying... which they must have deleted because it gave the game away too much (no audio)

SOMETHING HAPPENED AT THE WHITE SANDS?
There was, as far as I could tell, no deleted lines for either Aline or Clea, but there may have been something I missed. I read through the whole thing like a book, but people who are obsessed with other characters besides Renoir like me might be able to find deleted lines said by other characters that I didn't catch.

SimonUnleashed_01": Something happened at the White Sands. SimonUnleashed_02": Gaze into the chroma. SimonUnleashed_03": A lonely life. SimonUnleashed_04": A family life. SimonUnleashed_05": Who will fight? SimonUnleashed_06": Painting: 1 SimonUnleashed_07": Painting: 2 SimonUnleashed_08": Painting: 3 SimonUnleashed_09": Painting: 4 SimonUnleashed_10": Painting: 5 SimonUnleashed_11": The chroma vibrates.

Obsessed with the fact that, even completely off her rocker, out of her gourd crazy, Aline makes Renoir her protector and implicitly trusts him to fulfill that role. He's Cerberus at the gates of the Underworld. He's the dragon guarding her tower. The world fractures, and he still finds her. He will always find her.
He has every opportunity to leave, just like Verso. And considering the insane amounts of power Aline gives him, P!Renoir could probably make a good show of it if he turned on her. But he doesn't. He knows the truth about everything, and he still just wants to protect his wife.
And like. The woman gives him a badass gorgeous LION that matches his outfit. For zero reason. Just so he can look handsome and kick-ass. The whole thing is very romantic.
All of this to say. It's ultimately hilarious when R!Renoir rocks up to her Byronic-Heroified portrait of him like:

watching this new version of Raistlin: The Musical that I found on YouTube... (I have collected many variations of it). the ones with Ruslan playing Raistlin are so superior... like I know that he's not the greatest of the Raistlin singers when it comes to singing, but he literally IS Raistlin, like he's so good at acting, I can feel exactly what he's feeling. Like he's literally the character, and even more humanized and approachable than he was in the books. I think he also has the look of Raistlin very much too. (In the books, he thinks he is unattractive, but the books say that he's actually more handsome than his brother, except that his eyes and personality are very off-putting. So he has a very distinct feel in my brain)

I adore how utterly frazzled and defeated and exhausted he by the time he sings the last duet.
I love how they changed the choreography over the years (at first, Raistlin was dismissive and matter-of-fact and unmoved in the scene after Crysania saves him, but years of playing the part changed the scene until now Raistlin is just utterly sad as fuck and knows he's fucking up but he literally cannot help that he's failing at his great character weakness):

scream........... that's wizard romance........
I really love this musical to the point where I have it very memorized. It's such a good tribute to one of my favorite characters. The books do not end like this - this is the Bad Ending that they manage to avoid, but there's something cathartic about being able to see this ending depicted like this, because this is really what his character is capable of when he's acting entirely on his own without help. I love terrible wizards ahhhhhghghgh
I'm re-reading my very long tweet threads I made when I was revisiting Dragonlance, and this character really was written very well. like way more complexly than he had a right to be
